I was listening to a video about bad fandoms and how they ruin media etc etc...
And every time I hear about someone's experience being ruined by a bad fandom I think about one specific thing. How newer and younger generations grew up with the Internet and with social media - and as a result, for them, a social interaction will be first and foremost about the Internet. As such, when they want to enjoy or appreciate a media, they go to the Internet, and seek discussion and aporoval there.
But... As someone who grew up before the Internet was a thing everybody had. As someone who grew up in a household where the Internet was only my mother's work-tool, and definitively not for children, and barely used - as someone whose first connections to the Internet were done in cyber-cafes and by libraries' computers only when I was a teenager...
I remember and lived through a time where all the Internet fandoms DID NOT EXIST. And then, you could enjoy fully a media without worrying about the "fans". Heck, I lived in a time where people sometimes never met other fans of a given piece of media until several decades after discovering it! The invasion of the Internet and the wild colonization of social media in our society tend to make younger generations forget that medias will exist outside of a fando, and can survive a fandom. That the fandom is a byproduct of a media's existence, and is NOT NEEDED to consume, appreciate or dislike a piece of media.
I mean... I can give you dozens of shows I watched as a kid and a pre-teen that I was madly in love with, that I bought merch for, that I did fan-art of. And all that without ever encountering any other fan or hearing anybody else's opinion about the show. I just watched it, enjoyed it, and went on with my life. One CAN enjoy a media ALL ON THEIR OWN and all alone. It was how people did it for CENTURIES before you.
You clearly see how new generations' minds are shaped by the "Share this video" logic and by the "Comment section" structure. They are so used to see everybody sharing their opinion, they are so used to only read or see the most popular opinions, they are so used to see a media being SURROUNDED by fan reactions, that they end up believing in some warped way that they NEED to be part of a fandom, or that a media is equal and interwoven with its fandom. When the truth is that it is not.
There are tons of excellent pieces of media whose fandom died a long time ago, and yet the media is still there ; and same thing with hatedoms. On the other side, there are lots of pieces of media that never even got a fandom to begin with.
The whole "Fandom is everything" logic (that many people live by unconsciously) is only a fragment of a wider "community" phenomenon on the Internet, where everything must be a "community" and there is no individuality anymore. But here is the lesson and the moral to take out of things: If a piece of media is good, you can enjoy it, even if the fanbase or fandom is "bad". When you like a piece of media, you are NOT forced to interact with other fans or to care what the fandom as a whole thinks. You can be a fan, and not feel forced or obliged to be part of any "dom". And if someone "ruins" an experience of a media for you, always try to remember what YOU like about the media, and your singular enjoyment of it, and your own personal relationship with it.
I speak of experience here because when I first started sharing things about Sandman on Tumblr, I got into a bad situation with a crazy, bullying, obsessive fan of Sandman. It was all a pretty pathetic situation on all parts - because I was a young teen who wrote too hastily some posts without thinking about how my words could sound, and the other was a much older person who was hyper-focused on being the ultimate authority on Sandman (this person still tries to be the supreme ruler of the Sandman fandom by controlling Discors servers and making their blog the number one source of information about Sandman). This misunderstanding turned petty feud left me with a nasty and bitter taste that prevented me from sharing anything Sandman related - and did kill a bit of my Sandman joy... But I didn't left that ruin me. I wasn't going to leave one bad, rotten piece of mind make me unlove something I adored before. Because this is a person that exists OUTSIDE of Sandman, outside of the comic, outside of the media, and that I could have never even met if things had taken a different path.
I was bummed out that I couldn't share anything Sandman related anymore, because this person was stalking every Sandman post on this website, but I had to set my mind right because for YEARS and YEARS I did not share anything Sandman related, and it never bummed me out before. I collected Sandman volumes each year, for special occasions and given sasons - I have a whole personal history and experiences with this comic, tied to specific holidays like Christmas or gifts given by people that aren't here anymore. I was certainly NOT going to deny or renounce to a whole part of my life and to a personal relationship I had with a story, just because of some anger-prone person that clearly had a sorry life if they had nothing better to do than jump on the back of any foolish kid that miswrote something and yell at them like some self-righteous so-called teacher. A person I didn't even know, who didn't even knew the real me, and that I would never meet, and that I could easily block since their only presence was virtual.
[I also got a bit better upon seeing that I wasn't the only "victim" that had to suffer this person's slightly unhinged and very obsessive behavior, and that other reasonable person also got attacked - and I admit I laughed my ass off when I saw that this same person got a nickname around that they disliked but that actually described them so well from an outsider's point of view, it put into words everything I had felt and perceived from my few interactions. I won't say it here because I know it apparently hurts this person, and there's no need to answer misery with misery, but that was just something part of the whole crazy story]
Anyway after this very long digression - this is my personal story. For years and years I enjoyed Sandman as a comic, made it a yearly ritual, had personal experiences with it, all of that without meeting anyone else who knew or enjoyed Sandman (most people either being disinterested or laughing it off). And yet, because of this warped Internet logic that screws people minds, because one very present fan very present online was a bad person and attacked me on ground of me being some sort of "fake fan"... I should just threw these years to the bin? Certainly not! I love Sandman and it shaped some special events of my life, and that's something no one else will live, no one else will know, and that no one can "ruin" for me.
So no, I do not understand when people say that a piece of media couldn't be liked because of its fandom. A media exists outside of its fandom, before a fandom is born, and will probably survive said fandom. What truly happens to these people - which is something they do not actually understand, and that they need to realize, the same way I realized it - is that bad fans will ruin one's PERCEPTION of a show, will give a person bad memories of a comic, will ruin things around a movie or even cause trauma related to a cartoon. But when you consider things more carefully you will realize that a bad fandom in itself - that your personal bad experience with a fandom - won't change what the show or cartoon or comic or movie or anime truly is. Think about how you perceived the media before knowing about its fandom or before your bad interactions - and hold on to that, because this is YOURS and YOURS only. Try to imagine how you would have answered to a piece of media if you had no knowledge of its fans. Try to see and perceive a media while omitting all things that do not come from the media itself.
Ultimately, it is a question of not letting others enter in your head. What you do by letting bad fandoms "ruin" your perception of a media, is that you let others infect your life and warp up your mind and smear something you had, with their toxic, venomous, stupid, hateful behavior. It is a form of mind-invasion, similar to things like brainwashing peer pressure, and I think it is something people do not talk enough about.
Be strong. Do not let them win. Try to find back what is YOUR opinion and your feelings, truly your own. Or stand by your position and do not let people's bad behavior cut off yourself from the media. It is not because someone acted badly in a theater play's audience or an opera-house that the play or opera shown in it was bad. I think this is the most impactful metaphor I can come up with. If someone starts insulting everyone within a theater play's audience, will you blame the actors or the playwright for it? Will it forbid you from reading the play's script or from seeing another performance? Will you say to people "No, do not go watch this play, the audience is really bad"?
I hope this post can help

Sarcasm in Small Doses: How I Learned to Torture People
Sarcasm and humor are like a Rubik’s Cube for your brain: only smart people can solve it. And if you also enjoy sadistic jokes? Congrats, you’ve unlocked the dark mode of intelligence. The art of complimenting someone while actually suggesting they find a hobby that doesn’t require any brainpower. Just so you know, I wasn’t born this way. No, I carefully “fine-tuned” this skill, like a chef…

Stream and Scream | reader x multiple men
Tumblr media Tumblr media
PROLOGUE ▷ || play next song? summary : You started an OnlyFans to pay rent. Then came Fuck-a-Fan Fridays, one lucky subscriber, one masked hookup, all caught on camera. It’s anonymous. It’s hot. It’s getting you more subscribers. All good right? 'Till it turns out the ones watching you are your classmates and professors.
contains : camgirl!reader x a whole ass roster, rotating cast, university AU, smut, porn with kinda a crack plot, casual sex, anonymous sex, exhibitionism, recording, oral sex, piv sex, rough kinky sex, everyone wants to fuck reader, reader is kinda... willfully ignorant
A/N : hii this is my first time writing something like this but im SUPER excited. let me know your thoughts who do you think should come first :))
Tumblr media
Being broke wasn’t a personality trait, but sweet neptune, it was starting to feel like your entire identity. Third-year cursed techniques major at Jujutsu University? Check. Half-assing your degree with the enthusiasm of a soggy napkin? Also check. Part-time job that paid in existential dread and maybe $11 an hour? Triple check. You were one bounced rent payment away from selling a kidney, and honestly, that kidney was looking pretty damn optional.
So yeah, when the idea of starting an OnlyFans first crossed your brain—mid-scroll on TikTok, wine drunk on a shared bottle of cooking wine with your equally poor friends, and flopped on your shitty single bed—you didn’t laugh it off. You snorted, scoffed, and muttered something bitter, "Bet her rent’s paid," while watching some girl with lip fillers and a Gucci hoodie flaunt her brand-new car, courtesy of her tit pics. You sighed and stared at the water stain on your ceiling like it held the answers.
Then rent day came. Your bank account proudly displayed a majestic $7.24. Your landlord's emails had shifted from "gentle reminder :)" to "we will pursue legal action," and you had a full-blown spiral that ended with you Googling “how to fake your own death” before switching to “how to start an OnlyFans without your mom finding out.”
And somehow—somehow—you were fucking good at it.
Not just good. Thriving.
Turns out all you needed was a ten-dollar ring light, some bargain-bin lingerie that only looked expensive if you angled your body like a Tumblr-era contortionist, and perhaps the illusion that the people that were viewing your content weren't real. You didn’t even show your face. Just your body - though sometimes doing private videos for the right price, some sultry poses, a well-placed pout you’d perfected in the mirror while pretending to be some sort of pornstar bombshell, and boom—you were in business. Real business. Like, able to pay your rent in full and order takeout everyday no sweat.
It escalated fast. One day you’re nervously posting some artsy nudes, the next you’re getting tipped fifty bucks just for answering questions like, “What’s your favorite color (and can you say it while biting your lip)?” You were sitting in your crusty dorm room still, surrounded by your influx of takeout boxes and cursed technique textbooks you hadn’t opened in weeks, realizing you were somehow becoming a one-woman empire.
So naturally, the next step was chaos: livestreaming. You had heard that could bring in thousands in one night - and honestly? You were starting to build up at least a few hundred subscribers.
“Fuck it,” you said, setting up your laptop, adjusting your ring light, and channeling your inner seductress while fighting back a nervous breakdown, ensuring your mask covered your face fully and that your wig covered all your real hair. Your first camgirl stream was a whirlwind. You were shaking, sweating, probably looking one glitch away from buffering into another dimension with your cracked setup - but the chat?
Tips flying. Comments rolling. People calling you a goddess. Practically throwing money at you to get you to do stuff you had (ashamedly) done for free for other men. Another said they’d sell their soul for a moan.
That was the moment you knew.
You’d made it. Well, all things considered atleast.
Rent? Paid. Groceries? Not a single ramen pack in sight anymore, just takeout bags. Your mental health? Still dicey, but at least now you could afford therapy.
What you didn’t know, though, what no part of your clout filled brain could have prepared for - was that some of the top tippers in your chat? The ones dropping money and borderline-feral compliments like... SixEyesOnly: stretch like that and make that noise again and i think i miiiight just send you an extra 100. OfficeAfterHours: Tipped 50. Please buy yourself some food. And wear socks. It's cold out. (For some reason you followed what he said.) EmoWithaBoner: squeeze the toy harder. pretend its my fuckin neck. Yeah. You saw them every damn day. In class. At the cafeteria. In the fucking jujutsu training hall at college. In all honesty you perhaps weren't the sharpest tool in the shed when it came to connecting the dots. Really.
But that disaster? That story comes later. For now, you were just a broke, horny, slightly unhinged college student who had accidentally stumbled into a side hustle that was by all means paying more than anything you could possibly do with a degree.
And baby, business was booming.

Ozz, we're about to be left without TikTok. Pls do something ;-;
Tumblr media
I don't think you have to worry about that anymore, anon. Let me offer you an alternative, though, just in case. :) content: gender neutral reader, good ol' human kink trope
You eyed the name suspiciously, index finger hovering above the screen. You'd never seen this kind of writing before. Some sort of foreign language? Why was this in your recommendations, even? With a shrug, you gleefully ignored the eldritch runes and downloaded the cursed app, much too curious to ignore it.
Somehow, perhaps through some fateful glitch of the Universe or your own exceptional clumsiness, you'd accidentally stumbled upon a social media platform belonging to the Monster Realm.
At first, you wondered if this was some bizarre fetish website, or a community you weren't aware of: all videos, without exception, featured monstrous creatures and abstract aberrations. Tails, horns, hundreds of eyes, tentacles, fangs the size of your head. Above everything else, the quality of these costumes was phenomenal, as realistic as it could get.
With mild hesitation, you decided to post your own introductory video, humorously calling yourself a lost wanderer. The few comments you received were of utter confusion; what creature were you supposed to be? Was this some sort of disguise?
You assumed the members were appalled by your lack of participation, so you replied to one of the baffled viewers with a proper explanation and apology. You weren't into this kind of cosplay - just an average human, really - so you hoped it wouldn't be necessary.
That's all it took. The next day, you nearly dropped your phone from the shock of seeing tens of thousands of followers, comments, direct messages, requests. You scrolled helplessly, staring at the never-ending stream of notifications. "Wait, is this actually a human?", "Can you post more videos of yourself", "Do you take tips", "Would you be interested in being interviewed by us", and the suggestions and pleads kept going.
Even worse, you watched in terror as hundreds of videos discussed your arrival. Monsters trying to track you down, hoping to meet you in person, others proudly declaring they'd soon make you their mate.
Was it too late to log off and pretend it never happened?
Your ears perched up at the sound of scratches against your entrance door, and you prayed you hadn't been found by one of the blasphemies already.

crying on stream (not clickbait) — yu jimin.
Tumblr media
synopsis. you really need to stop playing random horrors at 2 am.
pairing. karina x gn!streamer!reader
warning(s). reader cries at a horror game, emotional support gf karina, this is so silly and sweet, let me know if there's more
words. 639
authors note. 1/2 drafts im posting tn before all the freaky stuff and angst floods my page. this is also based off this tiktok i saw
masterlist. navigation.
Tumblr media
you had no idea why you thought playing a horror game at 2 a.m. was a good idea—especially with karina asleep in the next room. but here you were, curled up in your chair, gripping your keyboard like your life depended on it. your chat was loving every second, spamming laughing emojis and "you're so cooked" messages.
then, it happened.
the door behind your character slammed shut. the screen flickered. a deep, guttural noise rumbled through your headphones.
you froze. your breath caught in your throat, hands hovering over the controls, but you could not bring yourself to move.
"no, no, no, no, no..." you whispered, barely making a sound.
username LMAOOO YOU'RE SO DONE username WHY AREN'T YOU MOVING HELLO?? username NAH THIS IS BAD 😂
your fingers twitched over the keys, but before you could even think about getting out—
the screen went completely black.
your headphones crackled. a distorted whisper slithered through the speakers, low and scratchy, like something breathing right into your ear. then, for half a second, the lights in the game flickered back on—
the killer was right behind you.
you slammed the pause button.
your whole body locked up, muscles so tight it felt like you might pass out. chat was going insane, but their messages barely registered.
you couldn't scream. not with karina asleep. you couldn't even let out a proper gasp.
instead, a quiet sob slipped out before you could stop it.
you pressed a hand over your mouth, shoulders shaking as you tried to breathe. tears welled up, but you blinked fast, trying to keep yourself together.
username ARE YOU CRYING BRO?? username NAH THIS GAME REALLY BROKE THEM username this is so sad but funny at the same time 😭😭😭
after a few deep breaths, you forced yourself to unpause.
you needed to get out.
with shaky hands, you turned the lights back on, unlocked the door, and ran. the second you stepped out of that room, you ripped your hands off the keyboard, dropping them into your lap as a deep exhale left you. a few stray tears slipped down your face, and you wiped them away, sniffling.
"oh my god," you muttered, still feeling the adrenaline in your veins.
then—
a tap on your shoulder.
you screamed.
the fear you'd been barely holding in came crashing down all at once. you flinched so hard your chair almost tipped over, another choked sob slipping out as you panicked.
your chat lost their minds.
username HELPPPP username THAT WAS NOT THE GAME?? username DID Y'ALL SEE THEIR SOUL LEAVE THEIR BODY username I THINK THEY JUST DIED IRL
then came the worst part—a soft, familiar laugh.
your head snapped to the side, eyes wide as you saw karina standing there, looking impossibly amused despite being fresh out of sleep. dress in your an oversized hoodie, her hair a little messy, she smiled at you before shaking her head.
"you're so dramatic," she whispered, barely containing her giggles.
you didn't even have the energy to argue. Without thinking, you reached for her, pulling her into a hug off-camera. she easily melted into you, wrapping her arms around your shoulders and resting her chin on your head.
username WHO IS THAT???? 😳
username WE CAN SEE THE SHADOW WTF username THE WAY THEY JUST WENT SILENT TO HUG THE AIR LIKE BFFR
karina ran her hand up and down your back, pressing a soft kiss to your temple before whispering, "you okay?"
you nodded against her shoulder. "i hate this game."
she snorted. "then stop playing horror games at night, hm?"
you sniffled. "never."
she sighed, but she didn't let go. for a while, you just stayed there—holding onto her, ignoring chat's growing curiosity, letting your heartbeat finally slow down. eventually, she whispered, "wanna sleep now?"
you exhaled. "yeah."
with a final squeeze, she pulled back and grabbed your hand, and you turned back to your stream, rubbing your eyes before clearing your throat.
"alright, chat," you muttered, voice still wobbly. "i'm ending stream. i need therapy."
the last thing chat saw before you disconnected was your teary eyes, ruffled hair, and hand out of frame, fingers curled like you were holding onto something—someone.
then, you were gone.

The Secret Folder
Alexia x reader
The afternoon sunlight streamed through the windows of your shared apartment as you lounged on the couch, scrolling aimlessly on Alexia’s phone. She’d handed it over to you earlier to look at a video her sister Alba had sent, but after you finished, curiosity got the better of you.
“Do you have any cute pictures of Nala?” you called out. Alexia, who was in the kitchen making a smoothie, gave a distracted hum of agreement.
“Should be a whole album,” she said without looking back.
Grinning, you navigated to her photos app, and sure enough, there was an album dedicated to Nala. You scrolled through the pictures, laughing at a particularly funny one where the dog’s ears were sticking up in opposite directions.
But then something caught your eye—a folder labeled with a single emoji: 🔒.
It wasn’t in her usual style to use something so cryptic, and your curiosity piqued instantly.
“Lex, what’s this?” you asked, holding the phone up as you clicked on the folder.
“Wait—what?” she said, her tone suddenly sharp as she spun around, eyes wide with alarm.
You blinked as the folder opened, revealing at least 100 videos—TikTok edits. Specifically, TikTok edits of you.
The first one that auto-played was set to a dramatic song, showing a montage of your highlights from the season.
“Oh my god,” you gasped, your hand flying to your mouth as you stared at the screen.
Alexia rushed over, smoothie forgotten on the counter. “No, no, no! You weren’t supposed to see that!”
You could barely breathe, both from shock and the overwhelming urge to laugh. “Are these all…?”
“Stop!” she groaned, snatching at the phone, but you held it out of her reach.
“Alexia Putellas,” you said dramatically, standing up as you began scrolling through the folder. “You have a whole folder of TikTok edits of me?!”
Her cheeks turned a deep shade of red as she crossed her arms, glaring at you in sheer embarrassment. “It’s not what it looks like!”
You raised an eyebrow, playing another video. This one was a compilation of your funniest moments during training, overlaid with the caption like when she’s funny and hot.
“Lex,” you teased, biting back a laugh, “this definitely looks like what it looks like.”
“I thought I had a lock on that folder!” she muttered, covering her face with her hands.
You grinned, loving how flustered she was. “Do you, like, watch these when I’m not home? Or when you’re bored? Is this what you’re doing on long flights?”
“Stop,” she whined, but her lips were twitching, betraying the smile she was trying to suppress.
You leaned in, lowering your voice in mock seriousness. “Be honest. Which one’s your favorite?”
She groaned again, grabbing a throw pillow and burying her face in it.
Your teasing softened as you set the phone down and wrapped your arms around her. “Lex, this is actually really sweet,” you said, pressing a kiss to her cheek.
“Sweet?” she mumbled into the pillow, peeking up at you with one eye.
“Yeah,” you said, smiling. “It’s nice to know you’re just as obsessed with me as I am with you.”
That made her laugh, finally lowering the pillow. “I’m not obsessed. I just… like seeing you. You make me proud.”
Your heart melted at her words, and you kissed her properly, pouring all your affection into the gesture. When you pulled back, her cheeks were still pink, but her embarrassment seemed to have eased slightl.
“For the record,” you said with a grin, “I’m totally telling Mapi about this.”
“Don’t you dare,” she warned. But you did and Mapi teased her about it every single day, and sent her a few to add to her collection.

Gaz:
It was easy to convince Kyle to come out here. In fact, he didn’t even think twice when you asked to go out on a hike. He had grabbed a light jacket, laced up his boots, and was out the door. He was an outdoorsman, after all, and any time he could spend with you was well spent. You weren’t going to hear an argument out of his pretty mouth.
It’s nicer this time of the year. Not too hot and not too cold with the leaves changing into the sunset colors. Honestly, you were glad you had come out here, even if it was because you had other intentions than some fresh air.
You were lagging behind Kyle, his hand flexing and calling for yours. You jog to grab his when you notice, swinging them as you approach a viewpoint.
You can overlook the area below you, coming up on a small cliff that showcases the changing leaves and sun. There’s a slight breeze that ruffles your hair, making the tips of your ears a little cold.
“It’s so beautiful,” Kyle breathes, taking in the view.
You nod, gazing out at the leaves tumbling in the wind. Then, with a practiced ease, you say: “No one would hear you scream out here.”
Kyle steps back from the edge, whipping around to look at you. “What?”
“What?” You ask dumbly.
“Don’t “what” me.” He points a finger at you. “I heard that shit.”
You step toward him, feeling guilty when you see his face. “Kyky-” you call.
“Nope!” He grabs something from his pocket, pointing it at you.
You put your hands on your hips, scoffing and stepping back. “You brought a taser?”
“And I’m not afraid to use it.” He continues to point the weapon at you as you take steps back. You were messing with your boyfriend, but your boyfriend was not messing with you.
“Babe, it was a joke!” You protest.
He narrows his eyes. “Oh, not so funny now, huh? No one could hear you scream.”
“Kyle!” You hiss at that, his point made.“Please put the taser away.”
“Please don’t threaten me,” he retorts, but relents and slips the taser back into his pocket.
“Why do you even have that?”
Kyle shrugs. “You never know. As you just proved.”
“Oh my god,” You said, walking back over to him tentatively. Once you’re close enough, he grabs your waist pulling you to his side. “Don’t ever say that shit again,” he whispers.
You glance at the taser in his pocket. “Lesson learned.”
Kyle smiles, kissing your cheek. “Ice cream?”
Ghost:
You take a deep breath, letting the crisp autumn air fill your lungs. It’s cold, cutting through the skin of your throat, yet at the same time it’s comforting. It’s much better than the humidity-laced air of summer at least. Where each breath you took felt like you inhaled oven air.
Simon glances over at you, cocking his head to silently ask what you were doing.
“Just taking in the air,” You said. “’s nice.”
He hums an agreement, walking along the stream you two were hiking. A few birds were chirping, leaves crunching under your boots, and the sound of water running over rocks. It’s a quiet you’re not used to from being in the military. That still doesn’t stop the idea from forming in your head.
“No one would hear you scream out here,” You muse, falling in step beside Simon. You say it casually, not looking at him. You act as if you had just asked where he wanted to get dinner tonight.
Simon, of course, is aware of everything. He stops walking, turning to you at an agonizingly slow pace. “Excuse me?”
You shake your head. “Nothing.” And continue along the trail.
He doesn’t follow you. You can tell when his footsteps aren’t echoing yours, a little slower and more steady. Instead, they fall silent on deaf ears. You can’t hear anything and the hair on the back of your neck stands up at the sudden stillness of the forest.
“Simon?” You call, turning to face him. And of course, he’s gone. You curse under your breath, spinning around to find him. You walk back to where he was, checking around the trees and the bushes. You shouldn’t threaten a lieutenant, the master of infiltration nonetheless. You peek around another tree, trying to get a view of him when a hand grabs your shoulder. You scream, throwing the hand off your shoulder and raising your fists. You come face to face with your boyfriend and drop your hands.
Simon stares at you, a deadpan look on his face with arms crossed. “What was that about no one hearing me or, should I say you scream?”
You swat at him. “It was a joke.”
“Damn right, it was. You think you could take me?” He begins walking again, offering his hand to you. He was a true gentleman even after he pulled that stunt. You really needed to learn to keep your eyes on him.
You lace your fingers together, sighing. “No.”
Simon is content with the answer, placing a soft kiss on your temple. “Let’s finish this hike without any other threats, hm, sweetheart?"
“It was a joke.”
“Mine wasn’t.”
“Simon—!”
Soap:
Johnny took convincing to go out for a walk. He was more inclined to spend his days on the couch, relaxing next to you. Not some boring “walk for fresh air.” He would argue he’d already gone on plenty of walks while deployed.
You dragged him out anyway, saying it’ll be good for him to do one without worrying about being shot at.
So here you are, on a quiet trail in your local park, pointing at the various colored leaves and their unique shapes.
“This is stupid,” Johnny said, kicking at a pinecone on the ground and sending it flying.
You roll your eyes, squeezing his hand, which was intertwined with yours in his jacket pocket. “You could humor me a bit.”
“What good would that do?”
You huff. “I actually quite like it out here.”
“‘m sure you do, love.”
You tap your chin with your free hand. An idea forming in your head to spice things up a bit. Or at least raise the stakes for your walk. “Like, no one would hear you scream out here, you know?” A mischievous grin curls on your lips as you look at Johnny with innocence.
“What?” He asked, eyebrows furrowed. He knew what you said, just hadn’t quite processed the implications yet.
“I said, we can go get ice cream. As a peace offering.”
Johnny removes his hand from yours, taking a step back. “I don’t think so.”
“You don’t want ice cream?”
He shakes his head. “Nope. I’m actually tired. Thinking we should head back now.”
You jut your bottom lip out, enjoying the slight panic on his face. “Already?”
He spins on his heels. “Yep! Right now. Let’s go. Back in public. With people.” He urges, walking away from you at a brisk pace.
You laugh to yourself, jogging after him. He glances at you over his shoulder, clearly paranoid and you feel a little bad about it. His pace quickens and within seconds, he’s out of your line of sight and you sigh. Damn him.
You exit the trail, and back into the regular park, squinting your eyes to spot your boyfriend. You can’t find him anyway, which is weird because his mohawk makes him unmissable.
A hand taps your shoulder and you jump.
“Oh, relax,” Johnny said, holding out an ice cream cone for you. “We’re out of the woods now. Everyone would hear you scream here.”
You take the ice cream from him, glaring at him and his smug look as he remixes your words against you. “Not funny.”
“Now imagine how I felt. Except I wouldn’t really have a problem if people heard.”
“We’re going home.”
Johnny laughs madly, throwing an arm around your shoulder. “That’s all I wanted.”
Price:
You stand at the end of your hike, overlooking the view beneath you. The cliff dips into a valley, scattered with red and orange trees, the telltale sign of the approaching cold. The sun sits high in the sky, blessing you with a little warmth as the clouds drift through the breeze.
Price stands next to you, hands on his hips like a proud dad after completing the hike. He pushes his sunglasses to sit on his forehead, taking a deep breath.
“We should do this more often,” he said.
“We should,” you agree, watching a pair of hawks circle and dive. “It’s so peaceful out here.”
“So quiet,” Price added.
You hum. “No one would hear you scream.”
You knew the risk of saying something like that to your boyfriend, but you couldn’t help it. A little challenge for him.
Price doesn’t hesitate, he takes a step back from you, putting considerable distance between the two of you. His eyes scan the trees, the valley below, the space behind you — he’s clearly checking for any threats.
You take a step toward him and he holds up his hand. “No. Empty your pockets.”
“What?” You asked with a laugh.
“You wanna say shit like that? Empty your pockets,” He said again.
You stare at him, and you can see the serious look on his face. Within the minute you had uttered that sentence, you already regretted it. Leave it to John Price to take everything so seriously. Even when it was his girlfriend who could never hurt him. You sigh, dropping your phone, wallet, keys, tissues, and everything else. You stare at him. “Happy?”
“Hands up.”
“John!”
“Not hearing you out, darling.”
You begrudgingly raise your hands as he steps towards you, patting you down and inspecting the things you’ve dropped. “It was a joke.”
“Am I laughing?” His hands come to rest on your shoulders, squeezing them slightly. “Believe me, darling. You wouldn’t be able to scream before I drop you.”
You spin around to face him, a shocked look on your face. He had gotten you there. Price wouldn’t be stupid enough to let you make any noise.
“It was a joke,” He mocks you, a sly grin on his face.
You purse your lips, grabbing your things off the ground. “Point made.” Price grabs the rest of your belongings, handing them to you with that sweet smile of his.
“C’mon, let’s hike back down. We can go to your favorite sandwich place.” He places a hand on your back, leading you off the cliff.
“As long as you don’t slip poison into it.”
“No promises.”
