    country girl things: tifa naturally had a southern accent due to being from nibelheim that she ‘lost’ ( or more like learn to mask in order to fit in ) in midgar due to wanting people to treat her seriously and not think she was some naive backwater girl. cloud still has his due to not being in midgar as long as her ( her five years vs only two for him ) and because his mind stagnated because of the four years he was experimented on. sometimes though it slips out, however, usually only when talking directly to him in private or when she’s upset. it’s a lot more likely for someone to hear her saying some form of slang or a saying from back home then her original, natural accent.

You know, as much as the Radfem community is full of interesting and vibrant women and as much as being gender critical is a huge part of radical feminism, I do find that a disproportionate amount of energy is focused on TIMs and disproving transgender ideology.

This is absolutely not to have a go but, for a community that is so vocal about being focused on women, a lot of you spend most of your time talking about men in dresses. I would say that two thirds of Radfem posts are about TIF's.

There's also a huge amount of vitriol around libfems and not many solutions on how to fix it.

I'm not stupid -I'm aware that this post will not transform the online radical feminist community. I am also aware of the hypocrisy of it, in that I'm not doing a huge amount myself.

That being said, I would love to see more of the radfem community online actually focusing on women and organising. Ranting and raving about trans people and making posts about how increasingly depraved they are is fine.

But where are the posts talking about other issues impacting women? Where are the pages organising meetings and marches and women's festivals? Where are the drives to raise money for women who need it, where ever that is? Where are the flyers made for us to print, decrying porn as the exploitation it is? Where are the recommendations for books and music and podcasts and art by women? Where are the podcasts analysing feminist literature to help others to understand it?

And I know that several of these things exist but they aren't really talked about. I have been drifting in Radfem circles for years and it's very rare that I'll see a piece of creative media advertised and even rarer that I'll see an actual event. The internet is such a great tool for organising but I'm just not seeing it used that way in Radfem circles to a particularly great extent.

There is so much that the Radfem community could be doing -should be doing- and isn't. Radical feminism is supposed to be about women, but all I see are posts about men.

All of this said, I would love it if anyone wanted to message me about any of the things above. I'm UK based and currently in the midst of my a-levels but I'd be at the very least happy to brainstorm with people if I can't do anything more.

i started at 130 and am currently at 106 (1/17/2025) but im trying to get to 80 (for reference i’m 61 inches / 154cm tall). my current intake is 500 cal with 1-2 metab days on the weekends. i try to get 7-10k steps a day but soon i’ll have a walking pad!

i dont like random guys at least ten years older then me coming up to me to test if im a fan or not…

the description i put: based on an actual conversation i had with a guy at the reinfaire. it was so bad (bad in the way he brushed past the fact i said i liked the first two ep’s and then started talking about possible prior projects) that i slipped into my work voice. dude was flaunting his stupidity.

the full story is fucking goofy and full of me not wanting to talk to this man hold on

i was going to go walk somewhere (i think it was to go dance to the viking metal band playing) and some guy (who i now guessed his name was ryan because he looked like it) comes up to me to say he loved my vessel costume says hes been into the band a while and asked me “whats your favorite album?”. i answered tpwbyt because the one and two ep’s aren’t albums. he then asks me if i listened to the newest album, which yes i have.

(major factor in this conversation is that i didn’t start with my usual “ive been a fan for almost two years” like have every time someone starts to ask questions about the band)

he then lists off his favorite songs (all of are in tmbte). saying specifically “the summoning which everyone one loves the summoning” i straight up burst out with the most aggravated tone “the summoning is good, but everyone calls it baby making music. which haha no they are very very wrong. and it only got popular because of astarion”. as if that wasnt a dead give away as to how i feel about people that don’t do their research on the band. or even go read their wiki at least once.

he then asks me my favorite song, my favorite is distractions.

dude looks at me were my eyes would be in the mask and goes “ive never heard of it” and then says hes heard high water which is “like the last track” and then says ive heard mine and some other song.

at this point im a little tiffed about this because im having to deal with a guy and now his girlfriend who is just watching this.

then my voice completely changes and i go “yup its on there” i almost told him “its in their 2021 album, this place will become your tomb, its track 8 titled distractions”

then he asks “have you heard of [fandom know previous project]?” and i just go “uh huh i have” and just look at this man with a death glare full of please dont say the mans name.

he didn’t luckily but he did say he thinks because of one of the lyrics and i just go. “dude, hes just putting down the coordinates for you to find him”

and then he knew, i know way to much about the band.

and i didn’t fully see it but his girlfriend definitely looked like she knew he fucked up

Film Review: “It’s only life after all” an Indigo Girls documentary (2023)- review by Dina Hornreich

And here is another revolting rockumentary review to help us further consider whether punk is “more queer” than mainstream gay culture, but first let’s get our lingo worked out:

• Punk is best described as an attitude, according to Don Letts’ 2005 film (Punk: Attitude).

• Punk Rockers are then considered the n*ggers of Rock ‘n Roll, according Patti Smith’s song from her 1978 Easter album; and it features Iggy Pop & The Stooges, Lou Reed & The Velvet Underground, The Ramones, and (of course) Sex Pistols’ mastermind Malcolm McLaren.

• Glam Rock challenged the boundaries of masculinity and femininity via David Bowie, The New York dolls, and other (mostly) “dudes in drag” styled outfits.

• No Wave is a different extrapolation of punk efforts affecting Sonic Youth, Lydia Lunch, and other offshoots that deconstructed and reassembled sound to further challenge conventional structures.

• Riot Grrrl & Queercore/Homocore were another sub-counterculture which uniquely adopts a loud (often campy) Punk idea that is overtly informed by more academic feminist and queer approaches as a deliberate artistic movement involving the work of Bikini Kill, Babes in Toyland, Mecca Normal, Team Dresch, Pansy Division, and Tribe 8.

In other words: Losers, freaks, deviants, etc. and other people whom society just wanted to GO AWAY.

So where do the Indigo Girls fit into this motif – LGBT communities also certainly know that stigma intimately?

Much like Sinead O’Connor (or even Suzanne Vega) in the late 80s & early 90s, this pop & rock  folk/country duo should more readily be able to fit into this sex & gender revolution. However, in this documentary, they really don’t seem to think

that they do. But the press kit photo of Amy Ray wearing a Husker Du t-shirt suggests fairer comparisons could include gay punks like Bob Mould and Grant Hart. And the film footage with The Butchies, Jean Smith, and Thalia Zedek further reinforces that impression.

I can’t truly speak for their fans from the Michigan Womyn’s Music festival (whose dominant voice often screamed “trans-exclusionary radical feminist” or TERF which are ideas from an era that has itself become stigmatized as we approach the next era of inclusivity challenges beyond “me too” sentiments); but they were clearly aware of crucial considerations for building community in ways that promote authenticity, safety, consistency, acceptance, comfort, and impartiality in our communicative exchanges.

What makes the Indigo Girls’ approach different is the level of self-sacrifice they are willing to make in order to accommodate their fans’ needs, wants, and desires. They have a very nuanced and humanistic sensitivity that makes them reluctant to challenge conventions or contradictions in the ways that turn weirdos into outlaws; an idea that frequently dominates punk ideologies and expressions as it overtly challenges societal power dynamics.

Instead, they prefer to go more grassroots in their activism as they continue to self-consciously challenge oppression without giving into that tendency for oppressing others which happens throughout most marginalized groups; but, they still seem to have internalized their oppression (which is something that women clearly seem quite willing to do) as the heartfelt explanations about dealing with depression, addiction, and other self-sacrificing responses to trauma portray.

Additional footage involving their activist work with Winona Laduke (or even Joan Baez) further exhibits an impressive willingness to move toward a more “crowd pleasing” aesthetic and clearly maintains a more unifying image given their “GLAAD approved” identity (which is something that artists like Stephin Merritt never seem able to accomplish despite sincere attempts to assert his status as “gay and loud.”). And this pressure certainly isn’t easy to navigate; especially when you consider the unhappy ending we recently witnessed to Sinead O’Connor’s story.

However, it is clear that they were very often distracted by a nagging pain from the concomitant rejection that accompanies just being “out” lesbians in an apparently still sexually repressed society. Their struggles and story are quite consistent with many women musicians who challenge societal conventions including gender essentialist structures as they tend to become grouped together into one large mass of “masculine” (or even “butch”) women.

For me, their ongoing dedication to a successful musical partnership is a testament to their commitment to building relationships on numerous levels. They clearly have their “niche” where they inhabit which keeps them a bit “insular” for its more narrow range – often making them appear a bit “contained.” However, they demonstrate an impressive commitment to beautiful lyrical prose alongside enjoyable melodic harmonies (using voice and acoustic guitar) which allows their work to remain generally consistent and reliable to their audience; and (in doing so) the film clearly supports their overall thesis that “It’s only life after all.”

MY MOMENT

I really loved it. I love music and I love talking about music.

But as a deeply eclectic person, it's humanly impossible to choose 5 songs that I like, and I don't have 5 favourites either. So I'm going to take the opportunity to share with you 5 current Brazilian songs by incredible and current alive artists, just true poems that I believe with all my heart that everyone deserves to hear and tif you decide to translate them, you won't be disappointed.

Not because I only listen to Brazilian music, but because I'm very proud of Brazilian artists and believe that they deserve to be recognised all over the world.

1 . CAJU | by Liniker

Liniker is perfect! She's a trans woman, black and has been awarded the title of Immortal by the Brazilian Academy of Letters, which is an indescribable honour for an artist, even more so in life. My favourite album by her is Indigo Borboleta Anil, but Caju is her latest and a close second.

2 . O Piano | by Coruja Bc1, Jonathan Ferr and Margareth Menezes

This one in particular is a song from a collective album with various artists, where each of the lyrics has its own musicality and proposals, but I had to mention this one in particular because it brought tears to my eyes more than once. It tells a very beautiful and very sad story (which even deserves to be drawn, so here's a possibility for a future WIP). The album itself, Brasil Futurista, is a great nomination and all the artists involved deserve to be here.

3 . A Ordem Natural das Coisas | Emicida (feat. MC Tha)

I could name so many songs by Emicida. From the most famous to the least played. 'AmarElo' is incredible and I seriously thought about putting it here (that's nomination 3.1). 'A Ordem Natural das Coisa' doesn't even remotely show the complexity of the artist's work, but it has a delicacy that can't be ignored. Think about how much life happens before the sun rises and the poetry he sees in life. It's just too beautiful.

4 . Torto Arado | Rubel, Liniker and Luedji Luna

This is perfect, because it refers to a book of the same name, which won the Jabuti Prize in 2019 (Jabuti is the highest national literary prize awarded by the Brazilian Academy of Letters). It's good to put her here, because I'd like to recommend another wonderful artist who sings pure poetry in every song she sings: Luedji Luna, another woman for the list and a wonderful one without any flaws.

5. Ainda Aqui Sonhando | Leo Cavalcanti

I didn't want to put this one here. I was thinking of a more upbeat beat so that the list wouldn't be so quiet, and this was the opposite. But I think it's actually the most on topic and I couldn't decide which one to put last. Spotify's metrics show that I listened to this song for over 52 hours in March this year. This particular lyric touched me on a very personal level, so I don't have any great recommendations for the artist, but anyway, if you want to listen, Leo Cavalcanti.

35. Who’s more artistic?

Tobias / Casey - At least musically, I HC that he has a beautiful singing voice, and he's not afraid to use it on Casey. lol He's also an art collector, which makes sense since his mother, Vivian, is an artist and an art broker. Casey wishes she was more talented artistically, but she's not lol

Ethan / Kaycee - For the longest time, the answer was neither. But when Ethan is instructed to find a hobby to reduce stress, he takes up painting and comes to learn he's quite good at it. Once he retires, he does it quite a bit, even sells some in a little shop by their beach home in Sandwich.

Trystan / Carolina - Hmm. No clue? Never gave this a lot of thought, but I'm going to say, Carolina solely because I HC her being a photographer. It started to assist with her work, but she ended up doing it as a hobby as well.

Eli / Zoe - Per canon, she's an excellent drawer, and that worked right into my world. I HC Eli's late brother, David, was an artist, and it's sort of a nice little connection.

Tobias & Casey: I mean... come on? lol Do I have to answer this? Yes, they have and they will again. lol

Ethan & Kaycee: He'd fuss and protest, but eventually, she'd wear him down. lol They'd only do it on occasion when he's 100% sure no one is around.

57. Whose the serious one when grocery shopping, and who likes to toss random things in the cart?

Tobias & Casey: OMG, neither is serious. They are like 2 kids when they go grocery shopping. Tossing things around, pushing each other around in the cart, being total idiots, and enjoying life. I love them for it! (I mean, I've written about what they do in the produce department! lol)

Ethan & Kaycee: He's serious. She's more playful.

Trystan & Carolina: See Tobias & Casey's answer... the same... only in NYC lol

Eli & Zoe: Welp - no grocery stores by them - so - but if there were, Zoe would be a total child - Eli would be all frustrated and telling her to stop - but he'd be just as bad by the time they left. :)
