"Thomas never expected to be a caregiver. Sure he may be cheeky at times like a child, but he's one of the oldest engines on the railway and has learned a lot over the years, with great help from his mentor Edward. He and the engines never knew about age regression and things like a little and caregiver relationship until more recently. Finding it out, was a big help to those like Gordon and James who found a way to relax into a younger personality - off work. away from the general public of course - it help them to feel more calmer and helps to subdue their more boastful personalities (though James still throws temper tantrums when regressed at times).

Inside the sheds, Thomas sees Gordon and James with their stuffies out, an elephant and a rhino, and they have their pacifers - even Gordon is wearing his bonnet. The blue tank engine found this to be adorable and easily slipped into the caregiver role, making sure that the bigger engines are okay. When Gordon asked for a story that Sir Topham Hatt brought for him, about an engine called Tootle. Percy threw a tantrum due to demanding his invitation for Thomas and their Equestrian unicorn friend, Izzy Moonbow, in an improper way. Once his tantrum finishes, Thomas approaches his friend and comforts him.

Inspired by @c00lac0la agere headcanons about Percy The Small Engine.

The explanation of their ponification and some worldbuilding of my AU below the cut.

Basically for why Percy and Thomas are ponies, for context, they get turned into ponies when entering Equestria with a transformation spell that turns them into ponies so that they could blend in with the locals. They also got turned into ponies so that they could have autonomy from their crews and go to places that they wouldn't be able to go to by rail. They love being useful engines but at the same time, they enjoy being actual living things. Magic comes a long way.

As for Equestria, well, my universe takes place in the future and some aspects of My Little Pony gen 5 are presence, mainly because Gen 5 is in the same or similar universe as Gen 4. My universe is basically a crossover universe and lots of the future residents are based off of other franchises, the main one is Transformers. Despite having Gen 5 characters, my universe is generation 4 and thus, it has the rules of that gen. For how the engines came into this universe? Well that's because the ponies' dimension and the universe of the Engines opened up via a portal. For how the ponies met the engines was well an accident, but they became close friends, thus, the engines would sometimes be allowed with permission of their controller (Stephen Hatt) to visit Equestria. I will explain more about my worldbuilding in the future, but this is basically a summary.
