CW: caricatures of Chinese people.
One of the best renditions of this English baroque operatic gem on moving media! Even one of the vocalists, Michael Chance (LE-FLUTING-SWOON!), said, "I have never had so much fun as I had in this production. 'Antic Hay' reigned supreme - both on and behind stage. clever, clever stuff from (David Poutney and Quinny Sacks) - how they made this unstageable semi-opera work as cohesive entertainment is extraordinary."
Speaking of Papa Chance, my favorite part has to be "Let the Fifes and the Clarions!" I can watch the scene (as well as "No Kissing At All") on repeat ALL DAY LONG!

thomas gainsborough -- "the blue boy" (1770)
"i'm sick of portraits and wish very much to take my viol da gamba and walk off to some sweet village where i can paint landskips [i.e., landscapes] and enjoy the fag end of life in quietness and ease" … thomas gainsborough
"'blue boy' proves that if you don’t quite fit in, then you might as well stand out with as much wit, color and audacity as you can muster" … josh kilmer-purcell
"lady called the blue boy love, she took him home made himself an idol, yes, so he turned to stone like a pilgrim she travelled to place her flowers before his granite grace and she prayed aloud for love to waken in his face" … joni mitchell
"… damn gentlemen, there is not such a set of enemies to a real artist in the world as they are, if not kept at a proper distance. they think … that they reward your merit by their company & notice; but i … know that they have but one part worth looking at, and that is their purse; their hearts are seldom near enough the right place to get a sight of it" … thomas gainsborough
"i'll never tire of posting and only wish i owned a viol da gamba to help me enjoy the fag end of life with absinthe and cigars" … al janik

Discharge Petition for H.R. 7152, the Civil Rights Act of 1964
Record Group 233: Records of the U.S. House of RepresentativesSeries: General Records
This item, H.R. 7152, the Civil Rights Act of 1964, faced strong opposition in the House Rules Committee. Howard Smith, Chairman of the committee, refused to schedule hearings for the bill. Emanuel Celler, Chairman of the Judiciary Committee, attempted to use this discharge petition to move the bill out of committee without holding hearings. The petition failed to gain the required majority of Congress (218 signatures), but forced Chairman Smith to schedule hearings.
88th CONGRESS. House of Representatives No. 5 Motion to Discharge a Committee from the Consideration of a RESOLUTION (State whether bill, joint resolution, or resolution) December 9, 1963 To the Clerk of the House of Representatives: Pursuant to Clause 4 of Rule XXVII (see rule on page 7), I EMANUEL CELLER (Name of Member), move to discharge to the Commitee on RULES (Committee) from the consideration of the RESOLUTION; H. Res. 574 entitled, a RESOLUTION PROVIDING FOR THE CONSIDERATION OF THE BILL (H. Spell your url with song titles and then tag as many people as there are letters
@the-eclectic-wonderer tagged me to participate and it looked fun, so here we are! You can find her post here, featuring a truly incredible amount of letters haha
Humoresque - Dvorak Eiland van Weleer - Ramses Shaffy Cheek to Cheek - Ella Fitzgerald And the Waltz Goes On - Mercuzio Pianist The Man in the Moon - Bea Arthur End Of A Friendship - Julia Jacklin Someday I'll Find You - Gertrude Lawrence Belle Hélène - Doe Maar Raindrops Keep Fallin' on My Head - B.J. Thomas Once Upon a December, instrumental - Kat Glaze Old Money - Lana del Rey Music for a While - Purcell
I'm definitely not tagging 12 people, but if you want to do this, feel free to consider this your tag ;) I am, however, very curious what @eeblouissant would come up with, if you feel up to it! Considering your excellent music recommendations recently!
#coming up with these was HARD (but fun!)#especially trying to keep the songs somewhat aligned with my own music tastes!#like I know plenty of songs starting with an O. but do I really listen to all of those? n(o)pe#alys.txt#music#tag game

Song Meme
I was tagged by @vanilkaplays (a long time ago!) to publish 5 songs that I actually listen to and then send this to my followers.
King Arthur by Henry Purcell. There's just something about a rousing chorus about sacrificing to Woden while you're working on a spreadsheet.
The Planets by Gustav Holst. Especially Jupiter.
Epic: The Musical by Jorge Rivera-Herrans. It is great.
Hamlet by Ambroise Thomas. This is a super dodgy version of Hamlet where HE DOESN'T DIE AT THE END, but aside from the plot changes the music is great.
Moon Signal from Otome Youkai Zakuro. Nice opening music!
Bonus: Baldur's Gate.

CLASSICAL VOCALISTS AND CHOIRS GONE WILD!
CW: suggestive and explicit themes; strong language.
Didn’t say I that warned you, classical music lovers! I have compiled a playlist of the bawdiest, naughtiest songs, arias, and snippets of choral works that span the timeline from the raunchy Renaissance to the modern age.
Magdalena Kozena-Rattle’s take on Georges Bizet’s “Habanera” from Carmen not suggestive enough? Hear American ‘90s divas Sylvia McNair and Dana Hanchard sing Claudio Monteverdi’s “Pur ti miro” from The Coronation of Poppea. If you know your Italian well, it’s something to hide the kids under 18!
Also included in the playlist is a Henry Purcell trio for basses fraught with burp and fart jokes. Even one aria from a Johann Sebastian Bach secular cantata sung by Dame Emma Kirkby is just as racy!
Not even countertenors are safe from naughty vocal classical music. Remember singing Thomas Morley’s “Now Is the Month of Maying” in your high school chorus? If you took the time to research the double etendres in the lyrics, you’d be sure to know that you and your choir would’ve gotten marked down at your MPAs! That rendition by soprano Hannah Morrison and male alto Marnix De Cat would give Nicki Minaj and Lil Jon a run for their bling-bling.
And I counted myself lucky back during my freshman year in high school once the CD for Donna McKevitt’s Translucence came out in 2004. My local Barnes and Noble, Books-A-Million, and Borders didn’t have the copies, and I was too young to buy it online.
Had I played the CD on full blast from my portable player at school or on the bus, I would be sure that I’d get a referral and an in-school suspension at the very least. That was even for that then-teenage Michael Chance fan here. One reason why, as mentioned, is because “Gravity” has lyrics referring to Adam - AHEM - doing the gulps on Issac Newton.
Seriously - read the CD booklet from the Internet Archive! Me hearing Chance singing those lyrics on the school bus would’ve made me think that the British countertenor would’ve been outdoing Ludacris or my former home state’s favorite son of hip-hop, Flo Rida. He would also give a particular rapper with the stage name that’s the same as his surname - if you know who I mean - a run for the grand pile of bling!
And I included “The Boys I Mean Are Not Refined.” Remember my CW on strong language? Yup - that’s Ian Bostridge going full Tourette’s Guy with a tenor timbre!
Hope you enjoy this - and please don’t play this with kids under 18 around unless you have headphones. Bonus points if you have Spotify Premium!
