God this panel kinda drives me crazy. From Batman & the Outsiders #17, Shiva asks Duke about his suit, whether it was his choice. And how does Duke respond? He... doesn't. He parrots what is clearly something Bruce said to him, but never clarifies whether it was 'his choice' at all. Because both him and Shiva know it wasn't. And he acknowledges that his suit, with all the Batty-ness (ears, symbol), was specifically designed to make him like Batman.

Then Shiva suggests dark red, which is what Duke wore in We Are Robin and has connotations to Robin as a whole. Duke's reaction - can we let it go? - can be read in many ways, but to me it suggests Shiva's words hit home. He does miss the Robin colours. Becoming the Signal wasn't his choice, but becoming Robin was.

(And throughout this run, Shiva says both Cass and Duke are being held back by Bruce. With Cass this is a clear allusion to being Orphan over Batgirl, so it's not farfetched to read this conversation as being about how Duke was denied Robin to become Signal).

Duke-as-Signal is a symbol of 'people like Batman', but Duke-as-Robin was a symbol of youth, of community, of diversity and of choice. He was a Robin formed without Batman. I know there's no going back, but having Bruce choose the name, the suit, and the time of day that Duke goes out makes the Signal such a fraught identity. I love the yellow, the suit, and the daytime aspect, but I just wish they were Duke's choices, not Bruce's.

suprise! i've been working as part of ANOTHER Bang! I paired up once again with the delightful @englandamericaitaly to create this piece for their fic as part of the @dpxdcbigbang !

Not to join the Wayne Family Adventures hate train (because I actually do enjoy some of it) but I feel like it doesn't have a good balance between the serious themes and the silly family fluff.

With this I don't mean it doesn't have enough of the two, but rather that it has a weird setup for it.

When there's a conflict it barely lasts and everything concludes the way it would in a perfect world. And that's the thing, that's the premise of this comic: a perfect world where the batfamily is happy and together.

I can enjoy the overly optimistic side of it. But then serious topics suddenly slap you in the face and you see that they're actually not so happy and yet, everytime after the bad thing occurs, everything is back to normal like it never happened or the issue is fixed with a small conversation.

And the more I see this cycle repeat, the more I wonder, how many things of the canon timeline did happen in this alternative universe that have been swept under the rug until the comic feels like bringing it up out of nowhere to explore the surface of it and end it on a happy note that's oddly underwhelming?

Now we're on an arc surrounding the joker and the trauma the batfam (mainly Jason and Bruce if I'm honest) has because of him. And even while reading this darker plot it doesn't feel serious when so many things are for convenience:

Nobody (in a room full of very observant detectives) sees Jason (who's not even attempting to go unnoticed) leave the room, which causes some drama later-on

Dick (a full grown adult with his own home and city) seems to be 'benched' along with all the rest who, might I add, the majority doesn't even live in the manor either. Heck, Steph has worked separated from Batman for years, who is he to stop her from doing her job? (tbf they all still continue to work on the case, but they have to do it at Bruce's back like they're actually little kids trying to skip school or smh)

Duke (who was the reason this arc started) happens to be in bed and I haven't seen much of him since then (which isn't great? now it's easier to make it about Jason! I love him but what about Duke? Or even Barbara for that matter.)

I don't know. I think it's great for the people who enjoy it and even the ones who think these serious chapters/this arc are nice to read. Maybe I'm being too critical, but this is my personal opinion about it.

I love the fanon happy batfamily as much as the next person (probably more) but I think everybody’s missing the point with it a little. I’m super pro Good Parent Bruce (bc he is! That’s his whole character! That’s the point! Looking at u dc 😒) and I love when the siblings all have relationships but every post with them being kind to each other is overlooking the comedic and literary potential of just portraying them as assholes. Like. They’re assholes. All of them. To the last. They can love each other while still being the Worst !

I can't get over the beginning of the flashback in 4x09 when Silver asks "What are we looking at?" and Flint replies, "Nassau. Thereabouts. A few days over the horizon, just waiting for us. Can't you see it?"

Like. can't you see it? Can't you see the future that I see for this place? Don't we share the same view of this endeavor? Isn't there no daylight between us?

Can't you see the way the world could be, in spite of the way that is? Do you see more than life as it is and not as is should be? Can't you see it?

And of course in the end no, Silver couldn't see it. He climbed all the way up that hill with Flint to see what Flint saw, and at the very top he still couldn't see it. He could only the see the horror that lay between them and the horizon.

Rat Man and Giant Teddy Bear

Instead of going into how much I love Black Christmas, let's talk about these dirty, dirty men.

I love scrawny rat men. Will he molest me? Will he stab me? Who knows, and frankly, who cares. If I can get a squeeze of his tiny little ass in before I'm sent to hell, it will have been worth it. I'm no masochist (debatable) but men who act like they'll peel off my skin just because they think I'm pretty make me want to be locked in a tiny cage. And if you have a dehumanizing kink, even better, because Billy will call you a piggy and a whore but probably never by your name ❤️

Stalk me, harass me, threaten to eat me out, masturbate into my pillows, and then after all that foreplay, rip me open and play with my guts? Sounds like a date.

And Thomas..

Yeah, he's a cannibal, but he can eat this ass

He's a giant of a man, and I don't understand how that could ever be an insult. I want him to sit on my lap so I can hold him like a giant stuffed animal, I do not care if he hurts my legs. He has the filth of a rat man, with his luscious locks that need to be washed and blood stains that will never come out, but the air of a man who'd be scared of pushing your boundaries (like a gentleman). And imagine getting your back snapped in half by him, both sexually and not. Sure, his life style feels like Christian based, trad wife, barefoot in the kitchen with a baby on your back, making human stew, you're never leaving this house, kind of life, but would it be worth it? Maybe. Even without a uterus, even if you were the more dominant in the bedroom, I feel like you would be delegated to house spouse duties, simply because Thomas would love you too much for you to get blood on your hands.

Thomas brings out my "I can save him" side, where as Billy makes me want to be broken down like the pig that I am.
