Spiderwho?! Chapter one
Megumi said WHAT?!
Spiderwho?! mlist
The crowd erupts in cheers and claps as White Noise has just finished their concert of the season. The atmosphere is lively, as everyone screams and cheers for their favourite members, some even asking for an encore.
You let out an offended gasp when someone bumps into you, not apologising as the girl was too busy screaming and shouting as if her life depended on it. "Geez, these people have no manners at all," you grumble to your friends.
Miwa laughs. "I doubt anyone ever cares when White Noise just dropped the best concert on campus ever? Like, are you seeing all the confetti?! " she gushes animatedly. "Their new songs are so addictive that I play them on repeat!"
"I won't be surprised if White Noise is one of your top artists on Spotify Wrapped this year, " you hum, raising your eyebrows in amusement. You don't hate their music, a couple of them show up in your personal playlist as well.
"Hey hey!" Toge yells into the mic, earning a lively response from the crowd, which also caught you off-guard, "Have you enjoyed yourselves so far?" Another loud reaction from the crowd. You swear your eardrums might’ve burst from the screaming in your ears.
Maki nudges Nobara. "Great job styling their outfits, Nobara, " she says with a slight smirk on her lips.
Nobara chuckles, crossing her arms across her chest with a proud huff. "Of course! When Yuuji told me that this concert was gonna be like no other, I knew I had to go all out this time!" As a student in the design course. Nobara was chosen to be White Noise's stylist from time to time, as recommended by Yuji. No surprise though, this wasn’t her first time.
"Nobara, I didn't know you were their stylist!" Miwa gasps. The girl is so excited you fear that her heart would just jump out.
"Aw shucks, it's nothing..." Nobara chuckles sheepishly. You find it funny how one moment, Nobara acts all proud, the next she’s shy because an acquaintance compliments her.
On the stage, Toge says something about how each of the members would say something short to show their appreciation and gratitude towards the audience–a tradition done by White Noise at the end of every concert. He adds on a few brain-rotten comments, along with a few jokes which had the crowd laughing and cheering.
“Toge Inumaki,” he begins charismatically, “and I'm the vocalist of White Noise!” He blows a kiss to the crowd, earning a whole lot of screaming(in a good way or bad, it’s up to you).
Toge hands the mic over to the bassist. “My name’s Yuta Okkotsu, and I’m the bass player of White Noise,” he says into the microphone politely. “Thank you all for your support, and for allowing us to make this happen.” Yuta’s kind words filled with appreciation had gotten girls swooning over him—nothing new.
“I’m Yuuji Itadori!” He cheers, beating his drums a couple beats enthusiastically. “Thanks for coming tonight, you all are the best!” With Yuuji's lively demeanor, he is like a puppy. Ending his word of thanks, he plays a couple more beats on the drums which earns another loud roar from the crowd.
"Megumi Fushiguro, the guitarist of White Noise,” he says when it is his turn. “Uh, thanks for all your support." He backs away from the mic and looks at Yuta, who narrows his eyes, making Megumi sigh, and plays a couple of notes on his electric guitar. For someone as dry and nonchalant as Megumi, he's quite popular. Even Toge was in disbelief that Megumi was the first to receive a fan edit when they first debuted.
"That was so dry, Megumi!" Toge whines. "How do you even manage to be the most popular in the band? " He turns to the audience off-stage, a look of disbelief plastering all over his face. “I swear, I’m going to lose it if you guys vote for him in this month’s popularity ranking!”
٩(˃̶͈̀௰˂̶͈́)و
"I'm so hungry," Panda groans as he pats his stomach. The concert has ended, and people are already making their leave.
Maki snickers, "Fatass," she mutters. Panda gasps in offence.
"Wait!” A voice could be heard. Yuuji and Toge approach you guys, panting as if they had just been running. The pink-haired boy’s gaze flickers amongst you guys. From you to Nobara, Maki, and then Panda. He smiles widely.
“I knew I recognised some familiar faces in the crowd." He then notices Miwa, who looks as if she is about to pass out from excitement.
"Woah, who's this?" Toge asks, approaching the blue-haired girl, as if to hit on her. Protectively, you push him away, making him yelp. “Hey! Let me have my moment!”
You click your tongue. “Smear your brain rot somewhere else, Toge,” you hiss. Regaining your posture, your expression returns neutral, a small smile appearing. “Anyways, this is my friend.”
Miwa straightens her posture, then dips into an almost 90-degree bow. “I’m Kasumi Miwa, pleasure to meet you!” She begins, and you chuckle at how she is practically shaking, a mixture of nervousness and excitement to be able to meet her idols so up close.
Before the two boys could say anything, another voice could be heard a little further away. “You both! We were supposed to have a meeting with Gojo after the concert!” The voice source comes from another member of the band, Yuta. He approaches them both and begins pulling them by their ears like elementary school students.
“Owwowoowo Yuta!” Yuuji whines, who desperately tries to save his ear from being torn off.
You notice a familiar yet unpleasant figure trailing behind Yuta. You almost scoff at the sight. “Didn't know it was a real thing that the Megumi Fushiguro actually appears off-stage, given his annoying presence that might make me want to pull my ears and gouge my eyes out,” you mutter under your breath with a snicker, but loud enough to reach his earshot.
Megumi swears he can hear a vein pop in his head, and it’s barely been two minutes since he left the dressing room. “Can’t keep your mouth shut even for a second I see,” he retorts back. “The only reason I don’t go out here after concerts is to avoid meddling idiots like you.”
Miwa raises her eyebrow, noticing how you and Megumi are internally strangling each other.
Ignoring the tension between you both, Toge approaches Panda, bumping his fist twice against his white stomach. “Eating well?”
“No,” Panda pouts(never a sight to see). “I’m being starved by these women.”
Nobara smacks Panda’s arm. “What do you mean being starved?! You’re emptying the fridge every single day as if you’re paid to do so!”
“Like a fucking rodent,” Maki murmurs.
“I heard that!”
૮꒰ ‘◉⌓◉’ ꒱ྀིა
The band is walking back to the meeting room backstage, where Gojo awaits.
Yuta looks over to Megumi, who has an annoyed, grumpy expression from the previous banter between you both. “Getting along with Yn back there, huh?”
“They were getting along? I swear I could see murder in their eyes,” poor Yuuji is clueless.
“It was sarcasm, idiot.” Toge nudges Yuuji with a snicker.
“Oh…”
Megumi scoffs. “I think I’d rather chop my dick off and eat it raw than touch her with a ten-foot pole.” Hearing nothing but just silence, he looks up, instantly noticing the mixture of emotions in his bandmates’ faces. “I’m kidding. But never in my life would I get along with her.”
“I think that’s the most disturbing thing I’ve ever heard in my life,” Toge murmurs.
Yuta raises an eyebrow. “Don’t you always say the most disturbing/outrageous things?”
Yuuji nods in agreement. “Yeah! Didn’t you mention how you’d do Chris Hemsworth raw—“
“Won’t you?”
Tuning out his friends’ disturbing discussion, Megumi looks back to see you laughing with your friends. Thankfully, you didn’t notice him. He returns his gaze forward, the annoyance in him growing. Maybe he should go to that place to cool off. Maybe bring her along this time.
ಥ_ಥ
Tossing and turning in his bed, Megumi could not sleep for whatever reason. Perhaps it is the remaining adrenaline rush from the concert earlier, but that’s impossible. It normally wears off during the shower after that.
With a small groan, he shifts himself so he lays on his side. Megumi picks up his phone, which is charging on his nightstand and begins scrolling through it, aiming to just kill time until he feels sleepy.
There are countless tweets from his friends, acquaintances, fans, about the concert, latest gossip, etcetera. But what catches his eye is your tweet. With a small ‘tch’ of irritation, he scrolls through the replies of your tweet(partially hoping someone would have the same thoughts as his).
Megumi couldn't exactly pinpoint why he hates you, it’s just an automatic system for you both. “What a freaking chatterbox…” he mumbles quietly. His gaze stays on your username for a little before letting out a small huff, putting his phone on DND and placing his phone on his nightstand. “She never gives up, for fuck’s sake.” and with that, he manages to doze off, the adrenaline from the concert (or what he suspected) finally wearing off.
Behind the scenes...
-yn and megumi actually follow each other on social media despite their hatred for each other, mainly for stalking purposes!
-toge dm’ed miwa that night after the concert. Miwa left him on read(she forgot to reply.)
-I imagine Yuta flopping on his bed with a long sigh from exhaustion because of the shit he deals with the WN members every single day. Oh, along with their manager, Satoru!
-WN members slept till noon that night!

nothing's gonna stop me but divine intervention
Chapter 3
(chapter 2 here)
__
Nico moves to his bed, drops down onto his back.
“Sorry to hear that,” Will says.
How did you touch yourself?, is what he wonders, against all his better judgement. The image paints itself in his mind, a pretty flush over Nico’s pale skin, his breath unsteady. Did he get straight down to business, or did he work up to it slowly, feather-light touches over his chest, his thighs, before wrapping a hand around his dick? Did he close his eyes, or watch the motion of his hand? Did he think of someone? Picture someone else’s hand jerking him off, or maybe dropping to their knees in front of him?
Will bites back a moan, veering away from this train of thought with herculean effort.
“I can’t decide if I want to turn on the TV or not,” Nico’s saying, sounding strained. “Everything feels so loud.”
“Yeah,” Will croaks. “I think it’s – it must be a side effect. It feels that way for me, too.”
Nico’s never done well with overstimulation. Though he’s gotten better at dealing with it in adulthood, Will knows to keep an eye on him when things get too loud or too crowded.
“I’ll turn off the lights,” Will says, getting up. It’s not bright in here by any stretch – he knows that rationally. But if it all feels like too much to him, it’s almost definitely worse for Nico.
Stiffly, he makes his way to one night stand, then the other, clicking off the lamps. “Okay?”
“Gods. Yeah.” Nico sounds exhausted. He’s laid out on his bed with an arm thrown over his eyes. He shifts it a little once the lights are off. “Thanks, Will.”
It’s its own kind of torture, knowing Nico’s in physical distress and not being able to fix it. It’s been Will’s role nearly his entire life, after all, and a core part of his relationship with Nico, at least in the beginning. The thing they were built from.
Tentative, Will sits on the edge of Nico’s bed. “I wish I could help,” he says, well aware that there’s really only one thing that would help. And Nico’s already said he doesn’t want it.
“Maybe – could you hold my hand again?”
Nico sounds almost tearful, and Will feels a rush of sympathy, all-encompassing. “I know maybe it won’t work for long, but it felt really good for a few minutes there and – if – if it doesn’t work, then –”
“Of course I can hold your hand, nerd,” Will interrupts, gruff. “Move over.”
Nico does, and Will lays next to him. The second Nico’s hand slides into his, they both sigh in relief. It’s just as good as before. Better, maybe, because it feels as if all the other sensations have gotten more intolerable in the meantime.
“That’s so fucking good,” Nico breathes.
Will lets out a giggle. From Nico’s fervent tone, Will might have been doing something far more sensual than simply holding his hand.
Nico laughs. “Well, it is.”
“Yeah.” Will smiles at the ceiling, relaxing a little more. Everything else aside – this stupid situation, his endless unrequited crush on his best friend – being with Nico is fun. Nico’s company makes Will feel better, lighter. More like all his favourite parts of himself.
There’s a long moment of quiet. Will focuses on Nico’s breath, tries to match his own to it. It’s slower now, calmer. And the too-loud sounds of the room, the light filtering through the curtains and under the door – it all takes a backseat to this: the two of them, together. Their breath and their heat, and Nico’s blessedly familiar presence running in a steady current under it all.
“Do you think it would help to get really fucking drunk?” Nico says suddenly, and Will bursts out laughing.
Nico turns, grinning. Warm and fond and easy. Gods, he’s beautiful.
“I’m gonna try,” Nico says, getting up.
Will’s not prepared for the physical contact to break this time. He feels it like a sharp pang in his chest when Nico’s touch disappears, and he gasps. Nico grimaces like it’s hurting him, too, but he says, “just give me a second.”
Nico crosses the room, crouching in front of the minibar. He makes a noise of displeasure. “Fuck, do they ever stock these things?” He comes up a second later brandishing two tiny bottles of liquor.
“Not enough to get really fucking drunk, unfortunately,” Nico says, handing one bottle to Will. “Maybe it’ll take the edge off though.”
It can’t hurt. Hopefully. Will props himself up on his elbows, squinting at the bottle in the near-dark. “What is it?”
Nico makes a face. “Not sure. Something green.”
“Awesome,” Will sighs. He unscrews the cap. “Cheers.”
They bump the little plastic bottles together and down them. Nico coughs, and Will pulls a face. But before he can complain about the taste – melon, maybe? – or the burning sensation shooting down his esophagus, Nico’s already taken his hand again, and suddenly everything is just better.
Nico sighs, settling back onto the bed. Will does the same.
“You think that helped?” Nico asked after a long moment.
“Not sure. Maybe?” Things feel a little duller, maybe. But it could just be wishful thinking. “Do you think it helped?”
Nico makes a face. “Maybe.”
“You could call the front desk?” Will suggests. “See if they’ll restock the minibar?”
“I guess I could, but I’m not answering the door with a huge fucking magical boner.”
Will snorts extremely unattractively and then laughs, hard. Nico’s shaking with soft laughter beside him, and when Will glances over, Nico looks awfully pleased with himself for invoking this reaction in Will.
“Huge, hey?” Will quirks an eyebrow, then glances down. Not that he can see much.
“Hey,” Nico laughs, rolling towards Will to press a hand over his eyes. “Don’t look at it.”
Will giggles, shoving at Nico’s hand. It comes to rest gently on Will’s head, where Nico makes a tentative stroke through Will’s curls… and then lingers. They’re even closer now, and they gaze at each other for a long moment, warm and buzzing. Gods it would so easy to just shift forward and –
Nico swallows, rolling onto his back again.
Will breathes deep, fixing his gaze on the ceiling.
“Do you – it’s –” Nico says, and then falls silent.
“Hmm?”
“Could we – would it be weird to have – more physical contact? Like –”
“No, of course not,” Will says immediately, because he’s been silently yearning for the same. The hand-holding feels ridiculously, stupidly good, and the liquor might have helped a little, but in the last few minutes Will’s brain has been one-tracking more, more, more. And it’s been what, maybe two hours now? Maybe, if they ration themselves… maybe they can get through this without ruining their friendship.
“What were you thinking?” Will asks. What he really wants is to take everything off, wrap around Nico like a blanket, turn him into something resembling a Nico burrito. But that’s most likely not what Nico had in mind.
“Maybe shirts off?” Nico says, hesitant.
“Yeah, good idea,” Will agrees, beginning to tear his off almost before Nico’s done speaking. Nico lets out a laugh, maybe a bit nervous, but he does the same. They shuffle into the middle of the bed until they’re side by side again. They link hands and Will wiggles in further, so Nico’s arm is crossed over his, shoulders pressed together.
Gods, it feels good.
This is essentially just medical. Right? Will can be sensible about this. Pragmatic.
Nico lets out a soft sound of contentment, and they’re both quiet, basking in the reprieve. It’s warm everywhere they’re pressed together, and Will wants to sink into the feeling, not come up for hours. He’s touched Nico before, of course – mostly in the context of healing, but sometimes just for comfort, for closeness. The pollen seems to make every touch so much better though, so much deeper. Like they’ve ceased being two separate people.
And gods, Nico smells so fucking good. Will wants to bury his face in Nico’s still-damp hair, nuzzle into his chest and the hollow of his throat –
“This is one of the stupidest things we’ve ever done,” Nico says suddenly.
Will feels the words like a gut-punch. Nico must realize it too, because he turns, his expression soft and apologetic.
“Not – not touching,” Nico says. “Not this.” He squeezes Will’s hand. “Just – like, seriously. A magical aphrodisiac that wants us to mate? It’s like something out of terrible sci-fi.”
“Hey, Star Trek’s not that bad,” Will protests.
Nico giggles. He squeezes Will’s hand again, hooks his ankle over Will’s. “What did they do? In the Star Trek episode?”
“Um.” Will shuffles even closer, because his body wants him to. Nico clearly doesn’t mind, sighing and melting into it, turning his nose to Will’s bare shoulder.
“I think the whole crew ends up being affected, except Kirk. Spock can express love for the first time. And then they figure out they can counteract the effects of the pollen with negative emotions.”
“Huh,” Nico says, thoughtful. “Do you wanna try that? Be a dick to me and see if it helps?”
Will snorts. “No.”
“Okay, good. Cause I might cry.”
Will laughs and Nico does too, their bodies shaking against each other. Warm, warm, warm.
“Hey, roll over,” Nico suggests after a moment. His voice is low, soft like flannel. Like all the best parts of darkness.
Will would do whatever that voice told him to, any time. He rolls to his stomach, folding an arm under his head.
Nico snuggles in again, laying an arm over Will’s back, pressing his face into Will’s shoulder. And then he starts rubbing Will’s back, slow and soothing.
Will makes an embarrassing noise that could, objectively speaking, probably be classified as a whine. He feels his face flush even more. But Nico just chuckles, soft, not stopping the motion of his hand.
“Good?” Nico asks.
“Yeah,” Will says weakly. He closes his eyes, sinking into sensation. Trying very hard not to start grinding into the mattress. He reminds himself of how appalled Nico looked earlier, when Will accidentally touched himself. That helps quell the urge for the moment. But it’s still the most erotic platonic back rub he’s ever experienced.
“You used to do this at Camp,” Will mumbles into his arm. He’s feeling so beautifully fuzzy, floaty, Nico’s touch making him feel far drunker than the little bottle of liquor did.
It hadn’t been uncommon, at Camp, for campers to dart across the green in the dark, risking death by harpy to seek comfort and company from friends when sleep wouldn’t come. Their last few months at Camp, Will had finally given in to the long-held desire to climb into Nico’s bed occasionally. And Nico would sigh, mumble something incoherent, and rub Will’s back until they both drifted off again.
“Yeah,” Nico murmurs. “Is it weird to do it now?”
“No.”
It’s good. So good that Will’s sure he’s going to fall asleep with Nico’s hand warm on his back, the same way he used to. The way he’s been dreaming of for the four years that they’ve lived apart, honestly. But just like before, they seem to reach a point where the touch just isn’t quite enough. It starts as the tiniest itch, easy to ignore. But then it grows and morphs into something demanding and unpleasant.
Will tries to ignore it as long as he can, but after a while he realizes he’s clenching his teeth, clenching everything. The motion of Nico’s hand becomes jerkier, less soothing, until finally Nico’s fingers contract, nails pressing into the meat of Will’s shoulder, a sharp, precise pain that brings a strangled sound from Will’s throat.
“Fuck, sorry,” Nico gasps, pulling back. “Sorry.”
“No, it’s okay.” Will fights to steady his breathing, fights against the loudly perseverative thought that he wants more of exactly that, now. Nico’s nails digging into his skin, Nico’s legs wrapped around his waist, Nico’s teeth –
“Those – those are some very effective spores,” Nico manages. “Top quality. If you were in the market for that sort of thing.”
Will doesn’t even think he can form words right now. And if he could, he doesn’t think it would be advisable for Nico to hear them. So he just makes kind of a high-pitched, pathetic whine. It makes Nico breathe out a laugh, anyway.
“Here,” Nico says. He doesn’t move away, thank gods, but he shuffles around until his back is to Will. “Roll onto your side and –”
Will doesn’t wait for the end of the sentence, scrambling to get closer, burrowing in, face pressed to the back of Nico’s neck, arm tight around his waist. So much skin pressed together – every inch of Will’s arm against Nico’s side, his stomach. Every inch of Will’s chest to Nico’s back. Will carefully keeps his dick away from Nico’s ass, just. They both moan in relief, sagging against each other.
“I – I actually meant for us to be back to back –” Nico begins, hoarse.
“Oh, shit –”
“No no no,” Nico says quickly, a vice grip on Will’s arm when he tries to pull away. “This is – this is perfect. Please don’t move.”
“Oh thank gods,” Will breathes. “I don’t think I can.”
Their breath begins to slow again, everything settling, blurring. Will’s face is smushed into Nico’s neck, breathing him in, strands of Nico’s damp hair tickling his forehead. He can’t imagine wanting to be anywhere else, ever.
And it’s perfect.
For maybe ten minutes or so.
And then it’s so much worse. Because before, Nico was just holding Will’s hand. Or rubbing his back. Platonic, at least ostensibly. But their position now is far more intimate, and Will feels himself tensing more and more, every muscle strung taut, and before long he’s fighting with any and all remaining willpower against closing the last few inches between them and grinding into his friend’s ass.
It’s just friction, his brain tries to convince him. It’s not really a big deal. How is it any different than a back rub, for instance? It doesn’t have to mean anything. A few minutes and it would all be over and –
Nico lets out a sudden sound, frustration or despair or both.
“Will, I don’t – I honestly don’t know how much more of this I can take,” he says in a rush. “I – it was – helping. At first. But now –” Nico shifts, almost writhes, not quite coming into contact with where Will so desperately wants him, but close.
Will makes a commiserating noise that might be a whine, or a moan. He can’t even tell anymore. He’s desperate to get closer to Nico, but he also needs to get away from here entirely. The little bits of logical thought left pinging around his fuzzy brain are telling him to break the contact between them completely, but doesn’t even know if he can, now.
Maybe there’s a different way for them to press together. Still just as much contact, but something not so excruciatingly tempting. And maybe then, maybe if they can just get a few moments of relief, maybe then they can think of some solution –
Nico squirms in Will’s grasp, wriggling around until he’s facing Will, face pressed into Will’s chest. They both make absolutely stupid sounds of relief. Will, panting, manages to lock both arms around Nico, presses his face to his friend’s hair, and Nico gets an arm around Will’s waist, fingers clenched in the waistband of Will’s pants – gods, this is feeling less and less platonic by the second, especially when Nico lets out a little whine, shoving one of his knees between Will’s. There’s still no contact with Nico’s huge fucking magical boner, but gods, it’s close. Will’s sure he can feel the heat of it, can imagine exactly what it would feel like pressed against his thigh.
The way he would grind against it, the noises that would choke from Nico’s throat. The way Nico would cling to him…
The heat is unbelievable, everywhere. Nico is so warm, his breath coming so fast. It’s intoxicating.
It’s intolerable.
“I wouldn’t – it would be – I’d understand. If you wanted to go out and… find someone. To help you… deal with this,” Nico says. He’s breathless, tripping over words, and gods, his mouth is moving right against Will’s bare chest, hot breath on Will’s skin. “It’s pretty fucking unbearable, and –”
“Why the fuck would I do that?” Will croaks.
“Because it’s me. And you,” Nico says. He sounds like he’s all the way at the end of his rope.
“And you don’t think of me that way,” Will says, not quite managing to keep the bitterness out of his voice as a healthy dose of hurt slips in amidst the arousal and the discomfort. “And that’s – fine,” Will continues, trying to backtrack. “I get that. But I’m not gonna go find someone else.”
There’s a long pause, their quick breath the only sound in the room.
Nico swallows. “I – I don’t,” he stammers, face still pressed to Will’s chest. “It’s not that I don’t. Think of you that way.”

The Veil | Chapter 8 | Just a Bruise
Chapter Summary: Pac has a lot on his mind after recent events. But while dealing with a wrist injury, he quickly learns that there are some things that he just can’t hide from a particular teammate.
-
I really pushed myself to be accurate to the show's style on this one (with a few creative liberties) and while I like how it turned out, I think I'd rather stick to a looser or more painterly style from here on out. Hope ya'll had a good Valentine's day!

⭒☆━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━☆⭒
"Just kiss me."
"Hold on a second."
"We really need to practise this."
"I know, just give me a minute."
You scoot away from Jungkook on the couch. You were sitting so close, almost about to kiss him actually, but his intense, doe-eyed gaze made you pause, needing a grounding breath.
You’ve never been this close to his face, and somehow, you can’t seem to cross the invisible line that keeps you from just pressing your mouth on his. Jungkook’s your friend, after all. You’ve known him since he was five and once saw him get his head stuck at school, so of course it’s weird.
You press your lips together in an attempt to focus, and lean in again, but once your eyes meet his, a smile urges on your mouth.
"Oh my god." Jungkook’s frustrated sigh cuts the air. "This can’t already be doomed to failure because of a simple kiss."
"It’s not! I just need to mentally prepare myself."
"I feel...offended? Kinda?" Jungkook weaves his fingers through his hair. "I’ve never had to convince someone to kiss me."
"It’s not you. I promise!" you say, reaching for his knee. "Under any other circumstance, if we weren’t friends, I’d love to kiss you. You’re hot and cute, but the situation we’re in makes me feel so stupid. It’s absurd."
Jungkook cringes when you call him cute and removes your hand off his knee.
Yesterday, when Jungkook showed up unannounced, it took him full ten minutes to convince you he wasn’t pulling a prank on you.
Who would believe their friend begging you to fake date them? It’s ridiculous. Only happens in the fictional world.
But then Jungkook showed you the pap picture that was circulating online. The comments and gossip were nasty and you knew he was caught up in a deep mess.
In the photo, Jungkook was surrounded by two girls, his arms draped casually around their waists as they stumbled out of the club, a half-full drink lazily held in his hand. His hair was a tousled mess, likely from the girls running their fingers through it, and the first few buttons of his shirt were undone, revealing a small peek into his defined chest. It was bold, provocative — definitely not the ideal image of a responsible twenty-year-old football rookie.
Probably the worst pap pic you’ve seen of him so far. And the worst timing too.
"You were wasted," you commented, staring at the article he was showing you on his phone.
"And I had so much fun last night." His voice was tinged with frustration, like a child whose favourite toy had just been snatched away. "But then I woke up to this picture, and a flood of missed calls and texts." He rubbed his hands over his face, exhaling sharply. "They just had to ruin it for me."
Noticing your raised eyebrow, Jungkook quickly backtracked. "No, I know it’s my fault too. I shouldn’t have done this right before the World Cup, especially after what I promised. I just hate how everything turns into such a big deal, just because... well, just because I’m me."
The idea of fake dating Jungkook had seemed absurd, something out of a rom-com rather than real life. But the more he explained the pressure he was under, the more you understood why he needed this.
Jungkook was your best friend, and if kissing him in public could save his career, why not help him?
While you got ready for meeting his manager, stepping out of your comfy, rotting-at-home clothes, which consisted of little shorts and an oversized t-shirt (you think it’s actually Jungkook’s, but you’re not quite sure since it’s been in your closet for years now), and slipping into a casual, more presentable outfit, Jungkook busied himself fixing your laundry machine.
Jungkook’s manager knows you well – his entire team does. You are known as Jungkook’s close friend and had been spotted with him on multiple occasions.
Taesung greeted you warmly, though surprise flickered across his face when Jungkook introduced you as the solution to the fake dating plan.
You felt Taesung’s gaze assessing you, weighing your suitability for the role. Jungkook’s PR agent mirrored his scepticism, tilting her head in doubt. They exchanged uncertain glances, which made you nervous, but Jungkook was determined. Jungkook wasn’t Jungkook if he didn’t get what he wanted. With a few persuasive words and his usual charm, he quickly won Taesung over, who sighed and leaned back in his chair, conceding defeat.
"We need to establish the narrative from the start," Taesung said seriously. "The media will dig into your background, and they’ll want to know if there’s anyone else in the picture. So, to be clear, you’re officially single. No boyfriend, no complicated past relationships that could surface. We don’t need any messy stories."
You assured them that there was none. Multiple times. No angry exes, no secret relationships – your personal life was as drama-free as it could get.
Taesung slid a document across the desk.
"This ensures that whatever happens, no details of this arrangement-"
Jungkook’s hand shot out, halting the paper. "No," he said firmly. "She doesn’t need to sign anything."
"Jungkook, it’s just a formality," Jiwoo began, but Jungkook insisted.
"I trust ___. She’s not just anybody. She’s my best friend. If she says she won’t talk, she won’t talk. The NDA isn’t necessary."
"It’s okay," you assured him gently.
Jungkook shook his head. "No, this is ridiculous. You’re not signing a stupid contract."
After more arguing, his manager eventually relented.
Jiwoo outlined the plan in more detail with Taesung – public appearances, social media posts, carefully orchestrated moments that would sell the story to the public. You felt a bit intimidated by the pressure, but you’d get used to it. After all, this arrangement is only for a few months – just until his management can announce that you’d mutually decided to break up on good terms.
But you both need to practise before stepping in front of the cameras.
Which leads you to this moment, a day later, sitting on your couch trying to practice how to act like a couple. And it’s not going well at all.
"Okay, let’s start from the basics then," Jungkook suggests. He rises to his feet, offering you his hand. "Hold my hand."
You gingerly accept his hand, standing up as well.
"See, don’t we look cute?" Jungkook drags you to the mirror. "Or maybe – let’s intertwine our fingers. I think that would look better." He holds your interlaced hands up between the two of you, a satisfied grin plastered on his face. "So cute, right?"
A giggle bubbles in your throat. "You act like you’ve never had a girlfriend."
"Well, it has been a while," he admits, the slightest sulk on his lips. "I’m too busy for relationships." He swings your hands. "The only times I ever hold a girl’s hand is in missionary, above their head when-"
"Jungkook," you interrupt quickly before he can delve any deeper into the story. You give him a mock glare, but there’s no hiding the amusement dancing in your eyes. "Didn’t we both agree on only talking about your bed stories after I’ve had at least one bottle of soju – preferably two, so I can mentally brace myself?"
You love him, you really do, but you don’t want to hear about his bed stories, unless you’re the slightest bit tipsy at first.
"Oh, yeah." He shakes his head apologetically. "Forgot about that."
"Wait, maybe that’s what we should do!" you exclaim as an idea pops into your mind. Your hand slips out of his, and you take a step toward the kitchen. "I think there are a few bottles of soju in the fridge."
"We’re not getting drunk to build up the courage to kiss," he insists. "We shouldn’t need alcohol to pretend we’re into each other."
Jungkook pulls you closer to him, and you stumble slightly, but his hand instinctively moves to the small of your back, steadying you.
"Fine," you sigh dramatically, hand on his chest. "Was just an idea to make this easier for us." The fabric of his shirt is extremely soft and your fingers glide over it.
"I mean, it’s not like we’re complete strangers. And they know it too. We’ve been through enough to pull this off without breaking a sweat."
He’s is right. The public knows you’re one of Jungkook’s closest friends. It wouldn’t be totally unbelievable that you two might have fallen in love.
After all, you’ve always been comfortable with each other —hugging, cuddling during movie nights, play-fight over silly things just to annoy each other. You’ve shared quiet moments, like when you’d fall asleep on his shoulder after a long day or when he’d run his fingers through your hair absentmindedly while you talked. There were times when Jungkook was exhausted and crashed at your place, your fingers gently scratching his head as he slept peacefully. You’ve kissed each other’s cheeks in thanks without hesitation.
Jungkook’s touch isn’t foreign to you.
And still, the thought of acting like you’re in love when you’re not feels strange. Sure, you’ve always been physically close, but this was different. This time, every gesture would be for an audience, every touch would carry a different meaning. It wasn’t just casual anymore.
"I guess," you reply, fiddling with the hem of his oversized t-shirt, avoiding his gaze for a moment. "I think it’s just weird to be this close for show."
Jungkook watches you for a moment, his eyes softening as he considers your words. "Yeah," he murmurs. "But it’s not like we’re faking the friendship part. The rest...we’ll figure out." His fingers clasp your hip, the pads of his fingers gently digging into your flesh. "Don’t think about it too much," he says. "When we have our first public appearance as a couple, pretend like the cameras aren’t there, act nonchalant. Just... y’know. You and me."
You pout, an involuntarily frustrated grumble leaving your lips as you drop your forehead on his chest.
"I hope I’ll do well under all the attention."
You’ve dealt with your fair share of noisy people trying to pry into your relationship with Jungkook, but so far, it’s been somewhat manageable.
"Just you and me," Jungkook repeats, his tone softer and more assured this time. "Nothing can happen to you when I’m there."
You glance up at him, taking in the gentle lines of his face.
"Maybe you should’ve hired a girl that can deal well with attention," you voice your thoughts.
"No." Jungkook’s immediate response rolls off harshly on his tongue. "You were my first thought. I wouldn’t have done this with anyone else but you."
"I was your first choice?" Giddiness makes your face shine.
"Yeah. I don’t think I would’ve felt comfortable with anyone but you."
"Be honest, you just really wanna kiss me."
You stand on your tippy toes, a silly smile spreading across your face.
Jungkook cocks his head to the side, a teasing glint buried in his eyes.
"I think you do."
With a surge of confidence, you take a small step closer, your heart beating a little faster as you close the gap between you and Jungkook. Your lips meet in a gentle, fleeting touch. The contact only lasts for a moment before you pull back, your eyes searching his for a reaction.
"That was a smooch. Not a kiss."
You frown upon hearing him complain.
"What, you want to make out with me in public?"
Jungkook sniffs a laugh. "No, but maybe a little more than how fifth graders kiss."
"You’re a kissing expert now?" you quip back, narrowing your eyes at him.
Jungkook leans in slightly. "I just know what I like."
The challenge in his voice sparks something in you. "Then show me how you like it."
His gaze drops to your lips, and a flutter of excitement spreads in your tummy. It’s unexpected and thrilling and it catches you off guard.
Jungkook’s hand, which had been resting on your back, slowly glides up, his fingers curling around the side of your face, his thumb brushing delicately against your cheekbone.
Your breath hitches as he leans in. His lips meet yours again, but this time there’s more weight behind the contact – still soft, but deeper, more intentional. His lips move slowly and there’s a warmth to it, a tenderness that makes your heart race even as the kiss remains gentle. He tilts his head slightly, deepening the connection just enough to make you melt into him.
The teasing atmosphere lingers in the back of your mind, but for now, it’s pushed aside by the gentle pressure of his lips on yours.
Kissing Jungkook doesn’t feel weird – which makes it a little weird.
When you both finally pull back, it’s gradual. You can feel his breath, warm and steady, mingling with your own.
"Like that," he whispers, his voice barely audible, yet it sends a shiver down your spine. "You’re a good kisser."
You pull back completely. "Excuse me?" you say. "You were doubting my kissing abilities?"
"No, not at all!" Jungkook shakes his head, amusement crinkling his eyes as he gazes at your sulky face. "You’re just a very good kisser. Like, super gentle and smooth."
Heat crawls up your cheeks. You ignore the flush of warmth and keep your composure. "Have you been using the lip balm I got you? Your lips are soft."
"I know, right? Not chapped at all anymore."
He traces two fingers along his bottom lip and your eyes follow the motion, finding yourself inexplicably drawn to his lips.
"Are we done practising?"
"Do you think we looked natural?" Jungkook’s hand slips into yours once more. While he is focused on the mirror, adjusting the way your bodies fit together – tugging you closer, alternating between holding your hand and interlacing your fingers – your mind is still replaying the memory of the tender press of his lips. "For me, it felt pretty natural. Not awkward at all. What do you think?"
It’s the simplicity with which he says it that draws a short laugh out of you.
The sound grabs his attention. "What?"
"You’re just...extremely serious about this. I don’t think they’ll analyse the way we hold hands, Kook."
"But that’s their favourite thing to do," Jungkook replies. "The gossip mills love analysing every step you take, where your eyes wander, who you smile at." A note of bitterness threads through his words.
He’s been playing pro for just two years and has fallen victim to greedy people intruding on his life so many times already. Former friends who leaked private conversations, acquaintances who turned their brief interactions into tabloid fodder, even strangers who felt entitled to a piece of him just because he was in the public eye.
Jungkook searched for solace and silence at your place many times, trying to escape the madness. In the quiet of your dorm, breathing felt easier.
You never asked questions, never pried. In a world where everyone seemed out to get something from him, you just let him be, offering him the comfort of your presence without demanding anything in return.
"People were just criticising this dude – ah, who was it again?" Jungkook stares at the ceiling, raking through his thoughts. "I can’t remember his name, but this guy was getting called out for choosing the booth seat while making his girlfriend sit in the aisle seat."
"The aisle seat? Come on, it’s an unwritten rule that-" You fall silent once you catch Jungkook’s pointed expression. "I mean, yeah. It’s definitely wrong to make a big deal about it. Maybe she prefers sitting there," you shrug.
"But do you see what I mean?" he asks. "Whether you intend to or not, you’re always judging what others do. And that judgement only intensifies when it involves a celebrity."
"Ah, when did you become so famous Jeon Jungkook?" You sigh, looking down at your linked hands.
"I know, right? Two years ago, no one would’ve cared if I had a threesome." He shakes his head in disbelief. "And now I am being punished for it—kicked off the national team, and my best friend has to save me by fake dating me."
"I feel like this would make a good movie," you giggle.
“We have to practise hard, then," he says.
You pull your phone from your pocket. "What if we film ourselves kissing so we can monitor it better?" You set up your phone on a nearby shelf and position yourselves in front of the camera. "Don’t engaged couples do this? I feel like we’re practising for our wedding kiss."
"Oh, butterflies."
"Huh?" You stare at the way he holds his hand against his tummy.
"You just told me you want to marry me. That gave me butterflies."
You slap his arm. "Stop being silly, we have a whole nation to fool that we’re in love."
~
Hang outs with Jungkook often end with the two of you lounging on the couch, snacks scattered everywhere, and a movie playing on the TV.
"Next one?" Jungkook asks from his spot beside you, inching closer with his pleading doe eyes.
You try to push him away by the, but he doesn’t budge.
"I need to study. Like, for real." You had warned him before starting the movie, agreeing to watch only one, but he still tried his luck.
He holds up one finger. "Just one."
You push him off your body, and this time he allows it, his back slumping against the couch. The grumble of complaint in his throat gets muffled by his pursed lips.
"You’re smart. The material is probably set in your brain anyway. No need to revise anything."
You scoff at his bratty words.
"So you won’t ever need to ditch hangouts for football practice because you’re already so good at it?"
"Well, no." He drags the word out, brows furrowed as he considers your question, trying to come up with a reasonable answer. "But I know you don’t need to study as much as you do. You’re just naturally smart."
"I wish, but I ace my exams because I study as much as I do."
"Aish," Jungkook mutters, standing up from the couch and stretching his limbs. His toned tummy peeks out from under his lifted shirt.
"Karina will be home soon anyway," you say. "And I’m not ready to play pretend in front of her yet." The thought of confessing to your roommate that Jungkook is now your boyfriend makes you shudder.
It was one of the conditions that made you briefly reconsider if you could really pull this off or if Jungkook should find another girl. You didn’t just have to act in front of the cameras – everyone had to believe that you and Jungkook are a couple, including your friends and family. You dread the day you have to tell your parents.
You know they once secretly hoped Jungkook would become your boyfriend when you were older, but as he became famous and the public started scrutinising his every move, your parents grew wary of his wild, reckless side.
You follow Jungkook to the door.
"You think she’ll believe us?"
"I dunno," you shrug. "Not sure if she’ll buy it. She’ll probably be suspicious since I’ve never talked about you in that way when we gossip, but I think we’ve practised enough to at least make it look like we love each other."
Jungkook nods and hugs you briefly. "We’ll figure it out." He steps out of your apartment, typing on his phone. "My manager sent me details about our first public appearance." He scans the text, but quickly looks up at you again with an annoyed frown. "Ah, so many words. I’ll just forward you the messages." With a sweet smile and a quick wave, he starts to leave, but you tug at the back of his shirt.
You cup his face, pulling him down to you, and plant a kiss on his lips.
"You’re my boyfriend now. Act like it."

Stars all aligned - Chapter 1
Summary:
If there was one thing that both Azriel and Zahra Archeron had in common, it was that they were both very good at blending into the background.
They just never thought that their family were going to be the ones who never saw them at all.
Warning:
Bashing of like...every IC member? I think Rhys gets the worst though, definitely disordered eating, kinda depression?, isolation
(Lovely dividers thanks to @sweetmelodygraphics)
He found her deep inside the House of Wind. Far enough from the festivities of Starfall that it was startling to find her.
The second oldest Archeron Sister must have wandered off just like he had.
“Why aren’t you dancing?” Azriel asked her as he spied her sitting in a puddle of her skirts on one of the couches, staring at the empty fireplace.
“Why aren’t you?” Zahra gave back drily, not even looking up at him.
What exactly was he supposed to answer to that? Oh, I can't stomach watching your sister dance with her mate? And even if I could stomach that, Rhys's mental commentary to him about it had turned his stomach. Even when Azriel had kept away from Elain just like Rhysand had ordered him to do, ever since last year. So really...what was he supposed to answer?
“Dancing isn’t exactly my favourite activity,” Azriel finally replied. It wasn’t a lie.
"Yeah, well, mine neither," she answered with a shrug. "Not that I ever learned."
"You never learned?" he asked surprised. Nesta had learned. Elain had learned.
"Bastard, remember?" Zahra said drily. "I am lucky that I got to learn how to read and write and do basic math. I was not going to be molded into a perfect lady, because no self-respecting man would marry me anyway."
The blunt way Zahra was talking stunned Azriel momentarily. There was something harsh, something almost...bitter and resentful in her voice as she spoke.
It seemed like it didn't matter if one was born a bastard in Illyria or the Human lands. It was horrible either way.
"Your sisters will miss you," he said instead quietly. "And you'll miss the spectacle."
"I don't really care for the festivities," she said with another shrug. "I don’t like the holidays. Humans don’t have any. We… they are too busy trying to survive," Zahra corrected herself quietly. "And besides, I am only here anyway so I don't end up being an indentured servant until some of you decide that I am back in your good graces,” she gave back caustically.
He grimaced. That Zahra had vehemently disagreed about their treatment of Nesta was well known.
It had surprised him too because it was just as just as well known that Nesta seemed to not care for her half-sister on a good day. They weren't particularly close, in any way, shape or form.
Something in his chest clenched painfully. Not from the insult she threw in his direction, but from the defeated way she said it. That she thought that they would just…toss her aside like that.
She was one of them.
"We won't," he said firmly. Her eyes slowly turned toward him and there were dark shadows in those eyes. Out of all the Archeron Sisters, she was the only one with green eyes. Azriel wondered if she had inherited them from her late mother.
Zahra was only the half-sister after all. The result of her father’s dalliance with a maid. Her age put her somewhere between Nesta and Elain.
It was easy enough to pick out the differences between Nesta, Elain and Feyre and Zahra. Dark hair similar to Elain’s, but green eyes. Skin a few shades darker than any of theirs. Lips that looked like Feyre’s but a nose that looked like none of her sisters.
Zahra seemed to belong but didn’t.
And right now, these green eyes…something was wrong. Something was off with these eyes.
"You don’t know that," she said with a humourless laugh. "Do you want to lie to me too, and tell me that Rhysand has nothing to do with whatever happened between Elain and you?"
Azriel stiffened, a low sound escaping his throat. She knew. She knew.
"How did you-" he croaked hoarsely and Zahra cocked an eyebrow at him.
"Do you really think that I hadn't noticed the two of you dancing around each other for months? Or the fact that you two can barely manage to be in the same room together?" she asked dryly and Azriel averted his gaze. "There is no one as beautiful and kind as my sister," Zahra said drily. "I don't fault you for falling for her."
Azriel said nothing, the pain in his chest growing at her words. The pain...and the bitter realization that his feelings were not as well-hidden as he had thought they were.
"It doesn't matter," he said quietly. "She has a mate. She deserves better than me anyway."
"Did Rhysand tell you that too?" Zahra said drily. "You never tried to hide the fact that your mate was dying from the same, so you have that on him."
Azriel gritted his teeth, the pain in his chest becoming almost unbearable. "It doesn’t matter," he repeated firmly, the words tasting like ash in his mouth. "Elain is happy. I would do nothing to put that in danger."
"Yes, she is," Zahra agreed. "For what it's worth, I am sorry," she apologised to him, her voice honest.
Azriel swallowed, the pain in his chest lessening only to be replaced by something else. Something...much more complicated. Something like…pity.
He pitied her. This young female was so full of bitterness. He couldn’t even fault her for it either. She had been just a bastard. Even when they had first met the Archeron Sisters…Zahra had been working in the household as a maid. Half employee, half part of the family. Like their father couldn’t make up his mind what he should do with his bastard daughter.
"You don't have anything to apologise for," Azriel finally told her quietly. "Do you really not want to watch?" he asked her. "You are supposed to wish for something when you see the stars fall."
She snorted, the sound bitter. "What I want, I am never going to get," Zahra said, her voice brittle.
He took her in in more detail at that moment.
The simple green gown she wore, high necked and long sleeved...that long gown that did little to hide how thing she was. The dark brown hair, pulled into a braid, obviously trying to hide the pointed tips of her ears and failing...the way her skin, darker than all of her sisters, was nearly ashen.
They had all thought that she was doing well. That Zahra at least was adjusting well.
But she wasn't. She wasn’t doing better. She hadn't adjusted. Azriel would bet anything that all she wanted in her life was to be human again.
She hadn't adjusted. She just acted in a way that didn't bother anybody, that didn’t spell trouble for anybody. Zahra had gotten herself a job, managing the accounting at an apothecary in the city. She had gotten herself a little cottage to rent. She didn’t go out and get drunk. She didn’t use any money from Rhys or Feyre. She showed up for family dinners, staying quiet and polite.
And if she was miserable…well, then nobody cared, because she didn’t bother anybody. Azriel could understand that. The same was the case for him.
Azriel clenched his jaw, watching her quietly sitting here. The way she was trying to hide away. The dress that was more like a potato sack than anything else. The way her skin was almost...grey. That bitter voice.
The shadows were stirring and he was unable to look away from her. She looks upset, Master, they told him helpfully.
"Do you want to go home?" Azriel offered quietly. Home to her cottage? Maybe some peace and quiet would make her feel better.
Zahra shrugged, not looking at him. Not giving him an inch. That wall of bitterness and sarcasm was so firmly in place, that it was practically a solid wall between them.
“Don’t want to end like an indentured servant, remember?“ she quipped drily.
“You won’t,“ Azriel said evenly. “You had a headache. I brought you home.“
She still didn’t look at him, her hands tightly knotted into her skirts as she sat there. She was so thin, almost fragile-looking. Her skin was sickly grey. “Come on,” he said finally, walking towards her.
Zahra finally looked up at him. Those green eyes. A bitter and lonely light in them. “What are you doing?“ she muttered.
“I’m bringing you home,” he said simply, holding out his hand. “Come on, get up.“
Zahra looked at his hand, her gaze wary. “Why?“ she asked quietly.
“Because you look like you are about to keel over,” he said, more bluntly than intended.
“Gee, thanks,” she said dryly, her voice sarcastic and bitter. But she placed her hand into his own and let him pull her to her feet, even though he could feel the tension in her entire body.
Azriel wrapped his arm around her shoulders, steadying her. “Come on. Let’s get you home and into bed,” he said firmly.
He led her towards the balcony, the last few streaks of light painting the sky, and he grasped her tightly as they shout these few feet into the air until he could winnow to the cottage she rented.
It’s ugly, the shadows complained.
He had to agree with them. The cottage was an ugly little thing. Plain. Small. The type of thing that was more of a hovel in the outskirts, rather than anything else.
“Home sweet home,“ Zahra said dryly, pulling away from him and a key out of her purse.
That cottage was in serious need of some renovations when the red paint that was flaking off the door was anything to go by.
As she unlocked the door it became obvious that while she kept it clean and neat.. even that couldn’t help much. This is a hovel, the shadows hissed.
Azriel was inclined to agree. He looked around with a frown, as the shadows scuttered around the tiny cottage. “You live here?“ he couldn’t help but ask. It was a terrible hovel indeed.
Zahra shrugged as if she didn’t notice the disgust in his voice. “I couldn’t exactly afford anything else at first,” she said drily.
At least not without taking any money from Rhys and Feyre, and clearly that was nothing that Zahra wanted to do.
He was struck by how empty it all looked. There was a small kitchen space, a table with a few chairs a fireplace… And the door that led to her bedroom, he assumed.
“How long have you lived here?“ he asked carefully, taking in the bare emptiness. There were no pictures on the walls. No trinkets and little belongings anywhere. It was…lifeless. She shrugged again and kicked off her shoes, making her way towards the bedroom. “A year?“
The room was equally simple and bare. A bed, a few clothes. A little bathing chamber. That was it.
“You’ve lived here for over a year?“ Azriel repeated, his voice turning sharp as he looked at everything. There wasn’t even a mirror on the wall.
When she just shrugged again, he was done. He grabbed her arm and towed her back into the main room. “Stay,” he ordered, pointing at the table and one of the two rickety chairs.
“What are you doing?“ Zahra asked, raising both eyebrows at him. Her irritation had started to rise considerably. At least that had done something to the sickly colour of her skin.
“Making sure you eat something before you pass out on me,” Azriel muttered, turning back into the kitchen area, looking around with a frown.
There was…nothing. His shadows reported as much. She literally had a few pieces of bread and some cheese in the whole house. He was more than fuming. That was not enough that she was living in…this hovel, she was apparently also starving herself.
He pointed at the chair again. “Sit,” he ordered a little sharper than he had intended.
The glare she gave him did not surprise him. Zahra hated being ordered around. “No,” she said firmly, crossing her arms in front of her chest. “I’m not hungry.“
Azriel clenched his jaw, the anger flaring. How stubborn could she be?
“You clearly haven’t eaten in days,” he said, pointing out the obvious. “You have nothing in your house to eat.”
“I have what I need,” she retorted, her own anger flaring. Azriel gritted his teeth, the urge to snap at her almost overwhelming.
“You are skin and bones,” he hissed. “There is barely enough fat on you to keep out the cold.“
“Why do you care?“ she snapped right back.
The question hit him squarely in the chest. Why did he care? Why, he asked himself for a moment. Why indeed.
He wasn’t going to lie to himself and say that it was just because she was Feyre’s sister.
Thankfully, Azriel was saved from actually having to answer, when her stomach grumbled.
Loudly. Azriel almost chuckled at the sound of her own stomach betraying just how hungry she really was. “Clearly your body disagrees with you,” he said drily.
“Shut up,” Zahra snapped, her skin flushing at the sound of her own stomach.
“I will shut up after you’ve eaten something,” Azriel said firmly, folding his arms across his chest.
Zahra gave him a glare that could strip the paint from the walls, (but then, the paint was already flaking off anyway). Still, she grudgingly sank down on the chair, her eyes avoiding his.
He turned back into the kitchen, opening cupboards and drawers and found absolutely nothing. There was nothing. Not even some fruits or vegetables.
He slammed the last cupboard closed, almost causing the hinges to break, the anger flaring hotly in his chest. That stupid, stubborn, stubborn woman.
“I will personally come here every day and stuff you full until you burst,” he snapped before he could stop himself.
“Why?” she asked and he could hear the challenge in her voice. Her own anger rose to meet his own. “Why would you even bother?“
“Because you are starving yourself,” he said, spinning around to face her. “Because you are so thin, I could snap you in half with one hand. Because I’m pretty damn sure you haven’t eaten a proper meal in at least a year. That’s why.“
“Maybe I don’t deserve a proper meal,” she shot back and something inside of him snapped at the tone in her voice.
Because he knew that feeling. He knew. For just a moment he froze. They were far more similar than they should be.
It was a terrible realization. He knew what the self-hatred and bitterness was like. He understood it far better than he wanted to.
“Nobody is going to suddenly show up and care,” he told her quietly. He saw her eyes flare at the words and he knew she got the meaning behind them instantly.
She sat there, her jaw tensed. “And what do you know about it?” she snapped, her voice bitter.
“I know what it feels like to starve oneself,” he said calmly. “I know what it feels like to have not a single person notice or care.“
The words rang truer than they should. Her eyes widened for a moment, shock flashing through her.
“I know what it feels like to be the one be always at the edge of the family. I know what it feels like for everybody around me to meet their mate but not me.“
The words slipped out before he could stop them. The pain he had buried so deep, deep down flaring up. The pain and loneliness and bitter realization that would never have what everyone else had.
He realized only then how much they really had in common. How similar they were.
“I know what it feels like to be the afterthought,” he continued, unable to stop now. “I know how it feels to be shoved aside. I know how it feels to watch everyone around me find someone while I’m the one left behind.“
He took a step closer to where she was sitting, towering over her. “And I know how it feels to hate myself enough to deny myself the basic needs I actually have.“
The last words made her flinch. He was so close he could almost see the pain and guilt and bitter realization flit across her face. Her eyes were on her lap, her fingers wrapped around the edge of the table.
“I know what it feels like to feel as if I don’t deserve to eat,” he said quietly. “Because I’m not good enough. Not worthy enough. Not deserving enough.“
He knelt down in front of her, forcing her to look at him. To meet his eyes.
She tried to look away, but he wouldn’t let her. He wanted her to see. To understand that she wasn’t as alone as she thought. “I know what it feels like to punish myself by not giving myself what I actually need,” he said quietly.
Her breath hitched at the last words, her eyes widening ever so slightly. She was listening. Really listening to what he said.
“You’re not the only one who hates yourself, you know,” he said quietly. The look in her eyes shattered him. The look of realisation. Of bitter understanding. The realization that they were so much more similar than either of them had thought before.
Zahra bit her lip, the guilt flashing across her face. Her hands started trembling, ever so slightly.
“You don’t deserve to go hungry,” he said quietly, his voice firm and quiet. “You don’t deserve to starve yourself. You don’t deserve to live in this… hovel.
“The cauldron should just have killed me,” Zara said her voice brittle. “I don’t like this life.”
And didn’t that break his fucking heart?
She laughed bitterly, but there was no humour in it. “I’m not even surviving,” she said, a bitter smile on her thin lips. “I’m existing. There is a difference.“
The words hit him hard. She was right. She didn’t survive, she just existed. There was a difference and a huge one at that. “Then stop just existing,” he said quietly.
His hand was still cupping her cheek, his thumb stroking gently over her skin.
“Says the guy that just keeps moping around,” she quipped.
It was a low blow but also true. Azriel’s jaw tensed at the comment. “I don’t mope,” he bit. “I just..“
He didn’t really have a good argument in his defence at the moment.
He sighed. “We should both stop rotting away,” he said drily.
“Yeah, well, that’s easy to you to say,” Zahra said and he could hear the bitterness in her voice.
“Eat your cheese,” he responded.
She rolled her eyes and snatched away the slice of cheese off the table. “Happy now?“ she muttered.
“Delighted,” he gave back drily, as he moved towards her fireplace.
“You don’t need to do that,” Zahra said quietly. “I can do that.”
“Considering you’ve been too starved to think straight, you are going to let me do this,” Azriel cut across her calmly. “You are more than likely to burn yourself.”
“Don’t the flames bother you?” She asked him quietly. He froze.
Nobody else had ever asked him. They had just expected him to be over it by now. He had 500 years to be over it. His hands clenched.
“Yes,” he answered quietly. “They still do.” It was the honest truth. A truth he never told anyone before, least of all someone like her. The shadows curled around his shoulders and arms as if to calm him down. The flames still bothered him. They always would. “But I learnt to deal with it a long time ago,” he continued.
“That’s not fair to you,” Zahra said, her voice quiet. “You are always the one in discomfort. And nobody cares.”
Her words hit him square in the gut. It was true. It was painfully true. He was always the one being uncomfortable. Always the one on edge. It had always been expected of him to be over it by now, the pain and the hurt. The fear and the bitterness.
He finished building the fire. Using a match to light it carefully, then closing the door quickly.
“I can deal with it,” he answered quietly. “You should go to sleep,” he advised her.
“So should you,” Zahra told him just as quietly. “You look terrible.“ He knew he looked like crap. But that didn’t matter.
“I’m fine,” he muttered, brushing off her comment. Even though he knew it was a lie. Even though he knew they were both terrible at taking care of themselves.
“You are a terrible liar,” she quipped. He looked at her and was surprised to see a tiny smile on her face.
“And you’re a very stubborn, very stupid, very annoying woman,” he quipped back just as quietly.
The smile on her face broadened the tiniest bit at the comment. “I could say the same about you,” she shot back.
“Sleep,” he told her again.
And then he left that little cottage to get back to the House of Wind. He didn’t bother winnowing, instead, he shot up into the sky with one flap of his mighty wings. He wouldn’t be able to sleep anyway.
His mind was whirling as he flew back to the House of Wind. So much had happened in the last few hours and it was all still a lot to process.
He had always been good at keeping a rein on his thoughts and his emotions. But this time, he simply couldn’t.
Zahra and him, always on the outskirts of their family. Ignored and expected to get on with it.
They were so similar in so many ways. It was shocking to realize just how much they actually had in common.
The loneliness and solitude he had come to live with, she had experienced herself. The pain and the bitterness, he could recognize it on her, for he had felt it himself.
Where are you, Az? Rhys demanded at that moment mentally. Azriel would like to scratch out his eyes, but he didn’t.
I’m flying back to the House, he sent back curtly. Zahra had a headache, so I brought her home.
A headache, Rhys shot back incredulously. Azriel could almost see the look on his High Lord’s face. You really think I will buy that?
I don’t care if you believe me or not, Azriel responded icily, his temper rising already at the tone. It is the truth and I really don’t wish to have a discussion over it.
There was a pause in Rhys’ mind. Then a slight huff. You can be so unbelievably stubborn sometimes, you know that?
Azriel didn’t bother reacting to that.
Elain and Lucien are figuring things out. So keep away from her, Rhys told him sharply.
I am keeping away from her, Azriel shot back, irritation flaring. You really think I will go and ruin this for her?
I don’t know what you are up to, Rhys retorted, and Azriel knew the High Lord was irritated. But I really don’t have the time to deal with your crap right now. That’s an order.
Understood, High Lord, Azriel snarled back and he felt Rhys chuckle in his mind at the tone. I will keep away from your precious Elain, I promise.
Damn right you will, he heard Rhys mutter in his mind and the mental connection between the two of them snapped close.
Azriel snarled in irritation as he landed on his balcony and stalked into his room. It wasn’t enough that he was wrestling with his own emotions, No, he also had Rhys all up his ass about it.
And he was infuriated about the whole thing.
Nobody will suddenly show up and care, he has told Zahra. It was the truth. Nobody would care.
They only cared as long as they got what they wanted from him.
Chip away the pieces they didn’t like. Mould him into a person they could stomach.
Either it was Rhys ordering to keep away from Elain…or ordering him to behave around Mor and Emerie… and to be quite honest…Azriel was done.
It was always him that needed to bend to make everybody else comfortable. Nobody bends for him.
So many years of following orders, of keeping his mouth shut, of bottling up the anger.
Even when everyone around him was getting what they wanted. They got their happily ever after. And he was left behind. Not once did someone ever realize that he was struggling. Not once did someone notice that he needed something…anything. That he was hurting and in pain. Nobody even bothered to check on him, to ask how he was doing.
They all got what they wanted. Mor, Emerie, even Feyre. They all got the mate that they wanted. Rhys, Cassian and even Amren had Varian.
He was the one always helping everyone else. Always the one having to endure everything. Never anything for himself. No love for himself.
Orders, commands, demands…that’s all it ever was. He didn’t get a say in anything. They just expected him to be fine. And if he wasn’t…he had to push through it.
He was the tool that did whatever needed to be done. The spy that got the order to do the dirty work. The shadowsinger that just had to endure everything.
All for scraps of attention.
Azriel was done.
He was so done. With everything. With everyone. With the one-sided affection that he had given in a desperate attempt to feel…something, anything….
He needed to stop expecting to get anything from them.
Zahra did not. She seemed to have given that up a very long time ago
The cold realization that they had been doing the same to her hit him. She was also the tool they used when they needed it. She may not be a spy, but they used her just the same. Expected her to be fine.
She was alone just as much as he was.
Alone and isolated, an afterthought to their family just as much as he was.
***
It was quiet in the little cottage.
Peaceful.
Comfortable.
Sie should be happy. Or at the very least…she should be content, should she not?.
Zahra had a roof over her head. And if she wanted to…she could afford food.
Her job didn’t pay that well, but it wouldn’t leave her starving. She just wasn’t hungry. She seemingly never was.
That was a lie and she knew it. Deep down she was hungry all the time. She just refused to give in to eating. She refused to listen to her body screaming for sustenance. It didn’t matter, anyway. Nobody cared.
She didn’t care.
Something inside her had broken during her bath in that cauldron. Her humanity had burned away and with that…with that everything Zahra had ever wanted.
She didn’t crave anything anymore. Not love. Not affection. Not attention. Not food. It was all gone. All she felt was numb.
Cold, empty and numb. Like her shell had hardened and frozen over.
She had never thought it was possible to feel so damn tired without having done anything.
Zahra forced herself to get up. Forced herself to heat some water on the stove… to make tea. The cheapest tea she had been able to find at the market.
It wasn’t the best. The taste was bitter and the color was more brown than black. But it was tea and she was thirsty enough to drink it.
It wasn’t very warm and left a bitter aftertaste on the tongue. Like her life itself.
Maybe just dying would have been easier, she reflected bitterly. Was this how eternity would feel? Alone? Tucked away in this cottage?
All her sisters had been given a mating bond. They had been given another person who loved them unconditionally…that was at their side. That wanted them around. That wanted to spent time with them.
And then there was her.
She had been closest to Feyre during the years in that cottage. Nesta gave her the fault for seemingly everything htat had ever gone wrong in her life, though Zahra privately thought that for Nesta, Zahra was just the evidence of another of her father’s failings…Elain…well, Elain was more embarrassed than anything about Zahra’s very existence. But Feyre…well, Feyre hadn’t cared. And so Zahra had tried to dote on her as much as she could.
And then clearly she had been replaced in Feyre’s affections.
She didn’t fault her for that.
Feyre had made her own life. And she had every right to do that. She was busy with her mate and her son and Mor was her best friend and…there was seemingly no place for Zahra there.
Which was fine.
It was.
But if Zahra was completely honest with herself…she was unspeakably jealous of the mating bond of every single one of her sisters.
Of that promise of at least one person that would be on her side, come Hel or High Water.
Clearly, something was wrong with her that she hadn’t been given a Mating Bond.
She wasn’t worth a mate. Clearly, something was broken inside her. Otherwise, the cauldron would have given her a mate, right?
Maybe she was broken so thoroughly that nobody even wanted her.
Why would they? She was a shell of a person, a ghost of the woman she was supposed to be.
She was cold, empty and numb. Everything that nobody could possibly want.
Everyone else got a mate, love and happiness. Not her.
She had nothing.
Her hands clenched around her lukewarm cup of tea.
Some random sparks of light sparked against the mug. A gift from the cauldron. They didn’t seem to do anything but warm whatever they touched. Maybe that was that random power the cauldron had given her. Neither future or death…but…warmth. She supposed it was something.
She wasn’t quite sure what to do with it, and she had never bothered telling anybody about it.
Sometimes she allowed herself to play with them when she couldn’t sleep. They were strange and utterly useless.
It wasn’t the power of foresight or the power of a death god…no. She had the stupid power to create sparks. Useless sparks of light.
Oh well.
Complaining about her sparks wasn’t going to help her either.
So she pulled out her work and sat down to do her work as the sun came up and the day went on.
Zahra balanced the account ledgers for one of the apothecaries in Velaris. Which meant she had a whole box of receipts to sort through and put into said ledger.
One receipt at a time, one name after the other.
It kept her busy. It paid well enough. She seemed to have some kind of aptitude for it…maybe the fact that her father was a merchant had come through for once.
She worked until the late evening. Until her eyes couldn’t concentrate on the numbers anymore.Until her back and shoulders ached with pain. She stretched her shoulders back.
She wondered if she should eat something. Her cheese was gone, thanks to Azriel standing over her until she ate it…but she still had one or two slices of bread, didn’t she?
She could go food shopping…buy another bread, another chunk of cheese tomorrow.
Then Zahra heard a knock on the door.
Confusion spread through her. Who would knock on her door at that very late hour? It was after 9 pm already.
She got up, walked towards the door and opened it carefully.
It was the last person she would expected to be standing on the front porch. Azriel.
“I am making you dinner.“
Her eyes widened at that announcement. “You are what?” she asked him dumbly.
He just gave her a deadpan look and pushed past her. “I am cooking dinner because I am assuming that you haven’t eaten yet,” he told her plainly.
It was true. Zahra hadn’t eaten a proper meal in god knows how long. But why did he care?? “Why?” she blurted out. “Why do you care if I’ve eaten?”
He gave her a sharp look and pushed her towards the kitchen chair. “Sit down,” he simply ordered and she was too taken aback to protest against it.
He had brought his own ingredients. His own knives, all tucked away in a little basket that he put on her countertop. “Can you peel potatoes?” He asked her as he rummaged through it.
She could just stare at him.
“Who do you think cooked the meat Feyre hunted?” Zahra replied drily.
Azriel froze in the process of digging something out of the basket on the counter. “You can cook?” he asked her and she heard the surprise in his voice.
Zahra let out a snort. “Yes, I can cook,” she retorted. “What did you think I was doing this whole time in the cottage? Twiddling my thumbs?”
He shrugged. “Honestly, I had no idea what you were up to,” he told her truthfully. “I thought you were as useless as Elain and Nesta were at that point,” he admitted.
“Nesta did all the cleaning and hacked the wook,” Zara corrected him quietly. “Elain mended. I cooked. Feyre was the only one who hunted. And yes, we should have done more, but I did help run the household. The only one who never helped was our father.” The bitterness bled into her voice at that.
There was a long pause after her admission. Then Azriel exhaled. “I guess I shouldn’t be as surprised as I am,” he muttered. “You don’t strike me as a pampered useless damsel.”
“Thank you for that assessment, Shadowsinger,” she quipped back. “I will make sure to remember it when I need a pick-me-up.”
He put a sack of potatoes in front of her. “I take it I’m peeling potatoes,” Zahra murmured, staring at the sack that was in front of her.
“Yes,” Azriel confirmed in that no-nonsense voice of his. “While I prep the meat. I do hope you like rabbit,” he added drily.
“Oh good,” she muttered, grabbing a knife and started to peel away at the potatoes. “Did you hunt it?”
“Yes,” he confirmed, his voice neutral. Zahra bit back a snarky remark and focused on the potatoes.
They worked like that in silence. Him preparing the meat, her peeling the potatoes and the carrots.
It was odd. This whole thing was odd. Sitting and cooking with Azriel. She hadn’t even known he could cook.
And yet…it was comfortable. Like the silence wasn’t awkward and neither of them felt the need to break it. It was a comfortable domestic kind of silence. Like they had done this a thousand times before.
“How are you with spicy food?” Azriel asked her after he had taken the potatoes from her.
Zahra blinked in surprise. “I have a pretty good tolerance, why?” she asked, curious.
“All the food I can cook is Illyrian,” Azriel answered drily. “I learned from Rhys’ mother and later from my own. It’s spicy.”
“I can handle a bit of spice,” she assured him. “It should be fine.” He nodded in response.
The sound of the fire crackling in the stove and him stirring up the meat were the only sounds filling the kitchen as they continued their work.
Zahra honestly had no idea Azriel could cook. He didn’t seem like the type of male who spent time cooped up in the kitchen, making meals. It was a little surprising.
And yet, the scents of spices and rabbit were filling her kitchen right now... It smelled almost heavenly.
She hadn’t smelled something as heavenly in a long time. And her stomach growled in response to the delicious scents of food. Zahra tried to remember when she’d last eaten something actually decent, but she couldn’t think straight. The food was distracting her.
“You look half starved,” Azriel observed in a deadpanned tone and she snapped her head up only to find him looking at her.
His eyes were focused on her, a frown playing on his forehead. “When was the last time you actually ate something properly?” he asked her, his voice firm.
She averted her gaze. “I don’t know,” she muttered, looking away from him and to the pot bubbling on the stove. “Maybe a week ago?”
He was silent for a moment. “That long?” he asked her, his voice carefully neutral. She just shrugged in response to keep herself from admitting that she actually couldn’t remember exactly.
He poured hot, thick stew into a bowl for her and then put it in front of her, holding out cutlery for her to take. “Why are you doing this?” Zahra asked him weakly.
“Because I wish somehow had done it for me,” Azriel responded
That simple statement made her blink in surprise. It was not an answer she had been expecting. She bit her lip, not really sure what to say.
And then he simply said. “Eat. You look like you’d blow away at the slightest breeze.”
She should have been angered by that blunt statement, but somehow she wasn’t.
So Zahra ate.
The food tasted incredibly good. She had to admit that the Shadowsinger was talented with cooking. The food was spiced just perfectly, hot and filled with flavour.
Every bite made her realize just how incredibly hungry she was. Her stomach filled slowly and the hunger abated with every spoonful. It was like her insides started to come back to life. The numbness was slowly disappearing, replaced by an odd sort of warmth flowing through her limbs.
"Thank you," she finally said weakly.
Azriel just nodded at her, watching her eat. “Of course,” he murmured and continued with his own food.

|| 3:24AM Ryomen Sukuna wants to send you a message
You flinch as your phone buzzes beside you, interrupting your disassociated reading of ‘the fundamentals of journalism’. You opted to ignore the buzz, focusing back in on the page you’d been trying to read for the past fifteen minutes. Your eyes would finally reach the bottom of the page, only to flit back up to the top because you simply couldn’t grasp what you’d been doing wrong. Your research had come to a halt, the football team flat out refusing to be interviewed by you. You knew how you were, how invasive your questions could be, but these were boys who bragged about their conquests to anyone who would listen, embarrassment should not be in their vocabulary.
Another buzz sounded. Then another. And another. You sighed, dog-earring the page and picking your phone up. A request for an instagram dm, and four texts from satoru.
|| Toru🤍: y/n, baby. please kindly look at your instagram dms.
|| Toru🤍: i know you’re not sleeping, check them right now.
|| Toru🤍: sukuna’s trying to dm you can you just answer him pls??
|| Toru🤍: he’s punching me PLEASE read the dm before he damages the money maker too much
You groaned. Ryomen Sukuna. Quite possibly the biggest slut on campus. You’d heard all the stories from Satoru about how Sukuna was making it his mission to fuck every sorority girl from your university. Eugh. You were so thankful that you chose to opt out of the sorority life. But, you loved Satoru, and he loved his face being intact, so over to instagram it was.
|| Ryomen Sukuna: Need a favour, princess.
You’d known Satoru since birth, practically being forced into an arranged friendship by your parents and you kinda happened to like his company. You met the rest of the football team when he inevitably joined a frat. Consisting of only the football team. You were friendly with most of them, probably Suguru most of all. The only one who never really warmed to you was Sukuna. You knew him well enough to know he accepted the extra meal preps you left for the rest of the boys whenever you cooked for Satoru, and that his room directly faced Satoru’s. But that was it.
|| Ryomen Sukuna: I’ll make it worth your while.
You groaned again, eyes rolling into the back of your head. This was the same man who grunted when you greeted him with a smile whenever you were at the frat house. The guy who told Satoru that he can’t always use his plus one invite to the parties on you, mostly because you never turn up.
|| You: you’re coming to me for a favour? you must be really outta options, dude.
It was a strange feeling. Being needed. You knew Satoru needed you. You were the only one who kept him sane when he’s balancing football and physics. But this was a different kind of need. This was practically a stranger needing your help. Huh.
|| Ryomen Sukuna: Fuck you. I need a girlfriend. You wanna do it?
Confused didn’t even begin to cover what you were feeling right now. A girlfriend? Sukuna? Nope. Never gonna happen. And you of all people? Definitely not. You had a feeling Satoru didn’t know, because if he did, Sukuna’s phone would be broken and maybe his nose too.
|| You: the fuck? no, go ask one of your sorority fuck buddies if you’re that desperate. i’m sure their frothing at the mouth for the opportunity.
You went to put your phone down, choosing to ignore the pink-haired quarterback, but he was already typing. Like he was waiting for an answer.
|| Ryomen Sukuna: Real cute, princess. Obviously I don’t want a fuckin real one. Need a fake girlfriend so I can focus on football without thinking about pussy.
Confused again. The Ryomen Sukuna, self-proclaimed football god, needed help to be able to actually play? The situation was laughable actually. You furrowed your brows, the thought crossing your mind for just a second.
|| You: Pass.
You let out a sigh of relief when ten minutes passed and you were still left on read, choosing to turn your phone over, pressing your face into the pillow, and getting your final three hours of sleep you so desperately craved.

“-was seventy-five degrees in Phoenix, the sky a perfect, cloudless blue. I was wearing my favourite sh- are you sure you want to listen to this, Si?” You giggled, shutting your book in favour of leaning your cheek against your forearm, tilting your head back far enough to catch Simon’s eye behind you. “I could always read whatever you’ve started, wouldn’t bother me.”
“Not the deal, lovie.” He answers, scooching further up the bed to where you’re laying on your stomach, head just as the edge of the bed so that your arms can comfortably hold the book at eye level. “S’your turn after all. You read me whatever you like.”
It’s true, it is your turn tonight. You forget how long ago this started, though you remember how the idea came about, Simon complaining about his back one evening while the two of you were laying on the couch together, each reading a book, quietly enjoying the others company. He was home for only a few days that time, and you’d insisted that he spend at least a full 24 hours doing nothing but resting and relaxing, a feat easier said than done with that man.
“Why don’t you let me rub your back?” You’d suggested, setting your book down.
“No love, you don’t have to be doin’ that,” he’d shaken his head, though you could see he was doing so reluctantly. His back really was hurting him something fierce. “Besides, I’m at the good part. Don’ wanna put this down just yet.” He’d gestured towards the thick novel in his hands, some war book, of course. His idea of relaxing.
“Oh come on,” you’d insisted, wanting to do this for him. You had tugged the blanket off your lap, coming to stand next to the couch, watching him raise a brow at you. “I can totally massage your back while you read, best of both worlds. Go on, flip over on your stomach.”
“Usually I’m the one tellin’ you tha- hey!” He had obliged you, turning over onto until he’s laying on his front, trying to hid the wince of discomfort that came with the movement. You’d swatted at his ass following his little comment, but your soft hands were already coming to slip under his shirt, skimming along both smooth and scarred skin alike. “But you were enjoyin’ your book too, love.” He tried to protest again, though his eyes were already rolling to the back of his head at the feeling of your touch, loving fingers squeezing at his strong, sore muscles.
“Why don’t you read out loud to me?” You’d suggested to him.
“Not sick o’ my voice yet?”
“Mm, never.” You came to straddle his behind, planting a knee on either side of him, leaning closer to whisper to him. “Favourite sound in the world actually.”
Simon was grateful you couldn’t see his face at this moment, as he was certain he’d gone beet red.
“Well, you let me know when you change your mind.” He grumbled, opening his book back up, clearing his throat and picking up where’d last left off. Three chapters later, your barely noticed how sore your hands were in comparison to how full your heart was, listening to Simon’s voice go from begrudgingly reading the passages to you, his tone slowly gaining enthusiasm as he became lost in the story once more, smiling to himself whenever he’d hear a small noise come from you in reaction to his reading, a gasp of surprise of a hum of agreement.
He’d gone to bed that night and slept better than he had in a long time, back feeling like a dream, and woke up the next day, asking if he could return the favour. Soon, the evening pass time of one of you massaging the other’s back while they read aloud whatever book they’re currently reading, became one of your favourite, most cherished memories with Simon, the tender moment so pure, knowing he looked forward to these small moments as much as you did.
The two of you had gone through so many genres in the last few months, you’d lost track, every type of book being brought off the shelf. Though you didn’t always share the same tastes in books, you could still enjoy the sound of your lover reading something that they love to you. Simon was always a good sport about your picks in particular, but tonight you couldn’t help but question whether he really would want to sit through your pick of the week.
“I’m not even sure if it would be better or worse to have you watch the movie first.” You say, your words nearly coming out in a moan at the end when his strong hands reach a tender spot in your back.
“Jus’ read me the book, cheeky girl, before I try an’ get more o’ them noises out o’ ya.” He decides for you, giving your ass a quick squeeze before returning to his diligent task of rubbing your back.
You decide you’ll listen to the Lieutenant this one time, opening up your book and starting again.
Who knows, maybe Simon will like vampires.

Room for One More?
Chapter 7
Summary: The group Christmas party takes a few unexpected turns.
CW: Swearing, alcohol consumption, mention of boobs?, sexual references.
Pairing: Poly!Marauders x fem!reader
Chapter 1, Chapter 2, Chapter 3, Chapter 4, Chapter 5, Chapter 6
So I may have stayed up until 2am finishing this last night so that I could have it posted on schedule but it also might be my favourite chapter so far!
--
The apartment looked amazing. You'd gone all out with decorating in preparation for this evening's Christmas party. There were lights and candelabras adorning just about every available surface in the room. A garland was laid out across the TV stand and the table was set with your favourite Christmas place setting. You'd even hung mistletoe in the entryway.
You looked yourself over in the mirror once more. You were dressed in your brand new dress, your hair pinned up in a simple, yet elegant updo and you're favourite red lipstick coated your lips. It was important to you that you made a good impression tonight. Despite having already spent a significant amount of time with the group, this was your first time hosting and you'd put a lot of effort into making it perfect.
You took one last deep breath, adjusting your dress slightly where it sat on your shoulders and stealed yourself for an entrance.
The smooth notes of "Last Christmas" filled the air around you as you pushed open the bedroom door. You could hear voices drifitng from the living room. Your guests had arrived.
Exiting the comforting confines of your room, you couldn't help the nerves that wracked through you. That was only amplified when eyes fell upon your form.
"Oh my god!"
Mary was the first to speak, exclaiming loudly with that endearing enthusiasm that she always seemed to exude.
"You look incredible!"
She charged towards you and engulfed you in a warm embrace. You melted into her touch, her excitement helping to ease your nerves ever so slightly.
"Thanks, Mary. So do you!" you told her earnestly. She looked stunning in a silky, red, wrap dress.
"And look at this place!" she continued, pulling away and gesturing around the room. "Did you do this?"
"I had some help," you responded, glancing over at Sirius and James. They were standing beside the tree, chatting to Peter with drinks in hand.
It was at that moment that Sirius looked over to you and his eyes almost bulged fair out of his skull at the sight. He blinked at you senselessly for a moment, completely zoning out of the conversation he'd previously been a part of you. You chuckled lightly, winking and sending him a flirtatious wave across the room.
Unbeknownst to you, Mary was observing the interaction, a curious look of suspicion crossing her features.
"Well, then," She stated after a moment. "Shall we get you a drink?"
You nodded, smiling back at her. "I'd love that."
The two of you linked arms as you headed into the kitchen. Sirius' gaze followed you the whole way there.
--
The room was filled with people dancing and laughing and drinking. The party so far seemed to be a smashing success. You were sitting on the couch, positioned next to Lily while Dorcas sat on the oveseat, Marlene huddled in her lap. Mary was perched on the coffee table, engrossed deeply in a story about a man who'd attempted to ask her on a date in a bookshop earlier that week.
"I could tell he was hovering," she explained. "But I chose to ignore him for the most part. I was in the Crime and Thriller aisle when he approached and I kid you not, he looked me dead in the eyes and said 'I have a library card, can I check you out?'".
The group erupted into fits of laughter.
"But you weren't even in a library! It was a book shop right? That doesn't even make any sense!" Dorcas pointed out.
"I know!" Mary chuckled. "I just looked at him like he was crazy and told him I'm seeing someone. Not that I would've ever gone out with him even if I wasn't!"
"Ugh, men are ridiculous," Marlene remarked. "Luckily for me, they aren't something I have to worry about."
She leaned up and planted a sloppy kiss on Dorcas' cheek causing the girl to flinch away and groan dramatically, eliciting another ripple of laughter.
You took a sip of your cocktail. It was lovely and sweet; a combination of gin, prosecco and canberry juice. Mary had insisted on making them for the party. She called it a "Gin-gle Bell Fizz."
"So, y/n," Suddenly attention was on you as Lily piped up from your right. "Have you been seeing anyone recently?"
You inhaled sharply, accidentally swallowing wrong and causing yourself to sputter for a moment as you placed your glass down on the table.
"Oh no. Not at all," you chuckled, once you'd managed to regain your breath. "I've been lacking in the area of romance for quite some time, honestly."
"Really?" Dorcas pressed, and you nodded sheepishly.
"I'm surprised to hear you say that," Lily respoded kindly. You were sure that in the time you'd known her, you'd discovered the lovliest person on the planet. "You're so beautiful! Anyone would be lucky to have you!"
"I concur!" Marlene agreed. "You're a hit, babe. It's only a matter of time. I'm sure half of London has the hots for you by now."
You chuckled lightly. "Thanks everyone. Careful or you'll give me an ego."
"Don't worry. No matter how inflated it gets, it'll surely never be as large as James'," Dorcas announced, prompting another round of laughter.
"What's as large as me?"
As if on cue, James appeared behind you, leaning down over the couch so that his head was pertruding into your conversation.
"We were just talking about how hot, y/n is," Marlene chirped.
"Well you aren't wrong there," James smirked. "What'dya think I bought her that dress for?"
Mary raised a brow. "You bought her that, did you?"
He winked at her slyly. "Call it an early Christmas gift."
That's when Sirius appeared, Remus by his side.
"Speaking of gifts," he chimed in. "Who's ready for Secret Santa?"
"Oooh yes!"
That came from Peter, who was just returning from the kitchen with drinks for himself and Sybil.
"I call Santa!" James exclaimed, jumping up from his spot and rushing towards the tree as everyone took their seats.
__
"What on earth is this?"
James was surpressing a laugh as he ripped the last of the wrapping paper from his gift.
"They're shot glasses!" Marlene exclaimed as if that much wasn't obvious. She was leaning back in her chair, arms folded and a smug smirk across her face.
"They have tits!"
"I know! Classy aren't they?"
He held one of the glasses up so everyone could see and sure enough, they were shaped like the curves of a female body. You couldn't help but chuckle at the absurdity of the gift.
"And there are four in there, so each of you boys can use one," Marlene stated. "You know, just in case you were forgetting what they looked like-"
"Oh come off it!" Sirius responded, giving Marlene a playful shove from where he sat beside her as she giggled. "I get plenty of action, thank you very much. I'm the lead singer of a band, remember?"
She shrugged. "Sure, sure. Whatever helps you sleep at night!"
"Okay next!" James shouted, sitting his gift aside and rumaging once again under the tree. After a moment he retreated, his lop-sided santa hat (that he'd insisted on wearing) snagging on one of the branches and causing everyone to burst into a flurry of laughter.
"Alright," he announced once his hat was righted. "This one is for y/n!"
He passed you the gift, a small box wrapped in shiny gold wrapping. Excitedly, you pulled off the bow and began to tear into the paper, all eyes on you as the gift was unvailed.
Inside was a small, red box. On top of it was a tag, decorarted with the words, "For your new beginning here with us."
You pulled it open and couldn't stop yourself from gasping at what was inside.
It was a gold necklace with an ornate dragonfly charm, one that matched almost exactly with the orament on your tree. You pulled it out to inspect it closer.
"Oh my god! This is beautiful!"
Your eyes scanned the circle of people, looking for an indication of who might have given you the gift. You knew that your roommates were the only ones who new about your Christmas ornament so it had to be one of them. You already knew that James had Mary so that just left... Sirius. It had to be Sirius.
It made sense now as to why he didn't want to help you with your shopping. He apparently didn't want to give anything away.
You caught his eye across the room and sent him a genuine smile. One which he returned. You're heart felt fuzzy at the sentiment.
--
Secret Santa had been a hit, if you did say so yourself. Dorcas had absolutely fawned over the set of paintbrushes you'd gotten her and everyone else seemed reasonably satisfied with their presents.
You then sat down to eat dinner, and having each brought a plate of food, the meal seemed decently well-rounded. As you tucked into the turkey James had prepared, you said a silent prayer of thanks that you hadn't been made to serve this entire group. Let's just say you were a much better party host then caterer.
After dinner, your guests had retired to the couch where slightly tipsy game of 'Cards Against Humanity' had commenced (at Sirius' request, of course. According to Marlene, he'd been pulling that game out at every group gathering since high-school.)
You and Peter had volunteered to tidy up the plates before you joined them and ended up in a surprisingly interesting dicussion about the Botany course he'd briefly taken during University.
Towards the end of the conversation, you'd recieved a message from your Mum double checking the dates for your Christmas visit and you realised that your phone was down to 10%.
"Could you excuse me for a moment?" You asked Peter as you placed the last of the dishes in the dishwasher.
"Sure," he nodded gently. "If we're finished up here, I'll go join the others."
"Yeah, go for it. I'll be there in a second," you told him and quickly ventured down the hallway with the intent of plugging your phone in in your bedroom.
You responded to your Mum's message on the way and absentmindedly threw the door of your room open without even thinking to knock.
"Oh my god!" you shouted as you entered.
Mary and Lily pulled away from each other in a flash, from where they'd been interlocked in a passionate kiss only a moment prior.
Mary shushed you quickly, pulling you into the room and Lily rushed to push the door closed.
You all fell silent for a moment, listening as to whether anyone outside had heard you, however, a ripple of laughter told you that they were still absorbed in the game.
"What the hell?" you questioned, eyes wide as you looked between the two of them. Lily looked extremely embarassed, her face almost as red as her hair as she bit her lower lip.
Mary, on the other hand, just shrugged. "Surprise, I guess?"
"Are you two together?" You questioned, still trying to process the scene unfoldng before you. A realisation dawned on you a second later. "Mary, is Lily who you've been secretely seeing?"
Mary sighed, taking a seat on your bed as she thought over her next words carefully. "I wanted to tell you. We just weren't ready for it to come out in the group yet. We didn't want to make it a whole big thing."
You nodded thoughtfully, taking a seat on the bed beside her. Lily stood in front of you, fiddling with the rings on her fingers nervously.
"This is kind of new to us," she gestured between them and instantly you understood what she was referring to. "And we're still just figuring everything out."
You gave her a small smile, eyes drifting between the two girls. "Well... I'm really happy for you. You guys are a good match."
Mary smiled, wrapping a friendly arm around your shoulder. Lily seemed to relax a little.
"Thanks, girl," Marry said softly. "We appreciate that."
It was then that another, more invasive thought entered your mind.
"Oh god, Lily. James is going to freak out! He's been pining after you since forever!"
Lily let out a lofty sigh, looking immensely guilty. "I know. Which is why you can't tell him, okay? Or anyone."
You furrowed your brows. "Of course I won't tell anyone... but guys, these are your best friends. You can't keep sneaking around forever. You're going to have to tell them at some point."
"We know," Mary muttered. "We're just trying to figure out the right time to do it."
"But we promise we will," Lily added. "Soon. I mean, someone was bound to catch us sooner or later."
"Although, I'm glad it was you and not Sirius," Mary joked. "He cant keep a secret to save his life. Especially from James."
You chuckled lightly. "Yeah, you're right about that."
"So... you're really okay with all this?" Lily questioned. You could tell on her face that she was worried about putting you in an uncomforable situation.
You sighed and sent her a small smile. "Yeah of course. It's not my place to tell anyone about your personal situations. You have to do that when you're ready."
"Thanks, hun, you're the best!" Mary exclaimed, wrapping her arms around your shoulders and pulling you into a sideways hug.
You just chuckled as Lily gave you a warm smile.
"And just so you know, I think you guys make a really cute couple."
Lily turned bright red once more.
--
A few hours later, the party drew to a close. Peter and Sybil were the first to leave, followed shortly after by Dorcas and Marlene.
You said goodbye to Mary and Lily around 1am and the four of you who lived at the apartment stayed up a little while longer to tidy up before you went to bed.
Remus said goodnight earlier than the rest of you, as he was having trouble with his knee again. And you sent James off after him when you noticed how his eyes were falling shut while he was picking up wrapping paper.
Eventually, you and Sirius were all that was left. It was the dead of night by that point, and the city had grown silent. There was something peaceful about it, you observed, being awake while the rest of the world was sleeping. For a moment, it felt like you were the only two people in the world.
Sirius smiled when he caught you gazing out of the widow at the cityscape. There were a few cars still driving on the road below, a few stray lights on in apartment windows, a few little signs of life peering through an otherwise silent metropolis.
Sirius approached you slowly, coming to stand behind you as you looked out at the night-covered skyline.
"What are you thinking about?" He asked softly. His warm breath fanned the back of your neck.
"Those people down there, driving," you responded. "I wonder where they're going?"
Sirius chuckled. It was a deep, rich sound that welled from somewhere in his chest.
"It's a bit late for a drive, you'd think."
You hummed in response. "Isn't it odd to think about how life doesn't just exist around you?"
Sirius frowned. "What do you mean?"
You shrugged. "Like, the idea that every single person that you see through their apartment window, or pass on the street, or who's driving one of those cars down there, is living their own individual life. They each have their own stories; their own friends and family and lovers. There's just so many people in the world and most of them, we'll never cross paths with even once."
Sirius pursed his lips. "Wow. That is odd. I can't say I've ever really thought of it like that."
You turned around towards him, the countours of your face highlited in the dim lamp-light.
"Don't you ever wonder about your fans? Who they are? What their life is like? To think that there could be all these people out there listening to the music you created, and you may never even know their names."
Sirius pushed a low breath from his lips. "What a philosophical way to end a Christmas party."
You scoffed loudly and rolled your eyes. "Sorry to ruin the mood."
"It's no problem, love. As long as you had a fun time."
He placed his large hands on your upper arms and you couldn't fight the smile that arose. "I had a wonderful time. Did you?"
He returned your smile. "Best Christmas party yet!"
You giggled softely and he placed a kiss on your forehead. "Come on, it's getting late. We should head to bed."
You nodded and pulled away to gather your things. As you did so, your eyes fell on the box containing the necklace you'd recieved for Secret Santa. Another smile graced your lips at the sight of it.
"Hey Sirius?" You called out, just as the boy began to head towards his bedroom door.
"Yeah, doll?"
"I just wanted to say, thank you so much for your gift. It's so wonderful and thoughtful. I absolutely love it!"
A slight frown came over Sirius' face. "Uh... as much as i'd love to take the credit for it, I didn't get that for you."
Your brows furrowed. "Really?"
Sirius shrugged. "Sorry. I had Remus."
"Well then who..."
Your question trailed off as your eyes fluttered to the aformentioned man's door. No. Surely not. It couldn't be!
Remus?
He'd never get you a gift that thoughtful... would he?
You looked down at the necklace as Sirius bid you a final goodnight. Your finger gently drifted over the dragonfly pendent and then to the note that was stuck to the top of the box.
"For your new beginning here with us."

Rating Reactions to Seeing Shinigami for the First Time
A comprehensive (and probably biased) list :-)
~~~
Chapter 1 - Light
Falls on the floor and screams, then recomposes himself and very unconvincingly pretends he expected this. This is the first we get to see of Light's Perfectly Normal And Chill Guy persona and I have to say it's not a strong introduction to his acting skills. He gets points for entertainment value though, and also for managing to scream without attracting the attention of his family???
Rating: 8/10
~~~
Chapter 7 - Kiichiro Osoreda
This is the guy who performs the bus-jacking that forces Raye to show his ID. It's a very entertaining scene, but he's being controlled and his reaction is therefore inauthentic, which makes it difficult to give him an accurate rating.
Rating: 0/10
~~~
Chapter 26 - L
This one doesn't technically count because L is merely hearing about Shinigami rather than seeing one, but it's too good not to include. He silently falls off his chair while actively solving a murder case in which the main cause of death has been heart attacks. Naturally the entire task force panics and thinks he's dying, and he does nothing to assuage these concerns. Absolutely iconic of him. Also makes for brilliant foreshadowing.
Rating: 10/10
~~~
Chapter 46 - Misa
We don't get to see Misa's very first reaction to meeting Rem, but we DO see their reunion during the Yotsuba arc, and she is horrified. She screams just like Light and L did, and her fear persists as long as Rem's hand is covering her mouth. She reacts pretty much how I would expect the average person to.
Rating: 5/10
~~~
Chapter 53 - Soichiro
Another pretty standard reaction. Falls backwards, screams and immediately reaches for his gun. Nothing remarkable about it.
Rating: 3/10
~~~
Chapter 53 - Aizawa
Exact same reaction as Soichiro, but he gets extra points because this panel of them both panting on the floor is utterly delightful. The eyes?? The pose???? They look like a pair of petrified crabs. I'm obsessed.
Rating: 8/10
~~~
Chapter 53 - L (again)
L has heard that Shinigami exist and already knows that there's a "monster" attached to the notebook, so he's not surprised at all by the time he actually sees Rem. Instead, he starts having such an intense and paralysing epiphany that he doesn't even notice Light taking the Death Note from him. The least dramatic reaction so far but incredibly on-brand for him in every way.
Rating: 6/10
~~~
Chapter 70 - Rod Ross
Freaks out once he actually sees Sidoh, but he's incredibly relaxed about the notebook flying beforehand. His line "I wouldn't be surprised if it's alive" is hilariously ironic given that the notebook does turn out to have a living component to it, and this does, in fact, surprise him.
Rating: 7/10
~~~
Chapter 70 - Kal Snydar
One of my favourite reactions purely for the implication that Rod might have recruited an 8-foot-tall man in a monster costume. Perfectly reasonable assumption to make.
Rating: 9/10
~~~
Chapter 70 - Mello
Much like L, everyone around him is panicking, but he stays impressively nonchalant. Immediately starts plotting ways to manipulate the demon creature for his own gain. This is essentially L's reaction if he was 90% more unhinged.
Rating: 10/10
~~~
Chapter 101 - Near
Only character to look genuinely happy about seeing the Shinigami which is an instant 10 for me. He gets an extra point for having the most precious smile ever <3
Rating: 11/10
pairing: remus lupin x reader
summary: Remus loves christmas for many reasons, but his favourite reason might be you.
chapter warnings: mention of food, other than that not any to my knowledge!!
A/N: merry christmas!! i guess i have to listen to the people of tumblr and write another one... yay
At the young age of 6 years old, Remus John Lupin knew one thing; he loved Christmas. While every day was a constant reminder of his... condition, Christmas was his chance to be normal. His mother would bake sugar cookies and brownies with him, while his father would use magic to string old christmas lights across their small house. His favourite part, however, was not the gifts, or the decorations. It was chocolate. Remus loved chocolate in any form it came in, and in winter, there was no shortage of it. Hot chocolate, peppermint bark, festive chocolate frogs his father would buy for him, Remus adored christmas for this reason.
When Remus went to Hogwarts, his love for christmas only increased. Surrounded by friends who entertained him with games of wizard's chess and card games, he had more to look forward to when the first snowfall of the year happened. Remus loved the way you loved christmas as well. Your sweet disposition only shone brighter during the holiday season. Whether you helped a first year put his ornament higher on the gryffindor common room's christmas tree, or shared your homemade treats with kids whose parents were far to busy to make any, you were just the most perfect person on earth, like an angel that descended from heaven.
On his fourth Christmas holiday spent at Hogwarts, Remus couldn’t help but watch you from the corner of the common room, pretending to be engrossed in the book resting on his lap. You were laughing as you helped a third-year untangle a string of enchanted fairy lights that kept trying to loop themselves into knots. The sound of your laugh—light and genuine—made his chest tighten in a way he couldn’t quite explain.
“Oi, Moony!” Sirius’s voice jolted him out of his reverie. “Are you going to make that move, or are you just planning to stare at her until next Christmas?” Sirius smirked, leaning back in his chair, a knowing look plastered on his face.
James snickered beside him, flicking a wizard’s chess piece that had been knocked over in the chaos of their ongoing game. “Don’t be too hard on him, Padfoot. Christmas is the time for love and all that nonsense, isn’t it?”
Remus flushed, ducking his head to hide the redness creeping up his cheeks. “I wasn’t staring,” he muttered, though the heat in his face betrayed him.
“Oh, sure,” Peter chimed in, grinning as he picked up one of the chocolate frogs from a plate nearby. “Because it’s totally normal to sit with a chessboard in front of you for twenty minutes without moving a single piece.”
Before Remus could come up with a defense, you approached the group, holding a tray of what looked like freshly baked gingerbread cookies. “Anyone want some? I tried a new recipe, and I think they turned out pretty well,” you said, smiling as you offered the plate.
Remus’s heart skipped a beat as you leaned closer to him, holding out the tray. “Here, Remus. I know you like chocolate, so I added a little drizzle on these ones.”
He stared at the cookies for a moment, then at you, his brain struggling to form coherent words. “Thank you,” he managed, his voice quieter than he intended. He took one, the warmth of your smile making his insides feel like melted chocolate.
Sirius raised an eyebrow at him, smirking. “Smooth, Moony. Really smooth.”
You laughed softly at their antics, brushing a strand of hair behind your ear. “Well, enjoy, everyone. Let me know what you think.” And with that, you turned to help another group of students decorating by the fireplace.
Remus watched you walk away, the cookie forgotten in his hand. James leaned over and whispered, “Mate, you’re going to have to say something eventually. Preferably before we graduate.”
But Remus didn’t need their teasing to know what was on his mind. You had a way of making every part of Christmas brighter, and he couldn’t help but think that you were the best gift he’d ever have the privilege of knowing.
By the next Christmas, the common room was alive with festive cheer once more, and this time, you and Remus sat together by the fire like old friends—though to Remus, you were so much more than that.
It had been a year since that quiet, awkward conversation, and in that time, you and Remus had grown closer in a way that felt effortless. He no longer hesitated to sit beside you in the common room or join you for study sessions in the library. You’d developed a quiet, easy camaraderie that made him feel like he belonged in a way he hadn’t since arriving at Hogwarts.
This Christmas, though, felt different.
“Are you winning, Moony?” you teased, leaning over to glance at his game of wizard’s chess with Sirius.
“Not even close,” he admitted with a wry smile. His knight was just smashed to bits by Sirius’s queen, and his remaining pieces seemed to be shaking with dread.
“Poor knight,” you said with mock sympathy. “He never stood a chance.”
Sirius grinned. “I’m ruthless. Everyone knows that.”
Remus rolled his eyes but chuckled, turning to you. “I think my pieces have officially given up. Care to save me by distracting Sirius?”
You laughed, shaking your head. “Oh no, I’m terrible at chess. But I can offer you some chocolate for moral support.”
Reaching into the small tin you’d brought with you, you held out a neatly wrapped piece. Remus accepted it with a quiet “thanks,” and as he unwrapped it, he couldn’t help but marvel at how thoughtful you always were.
“Do you ever stop being nice?” he asked softly, almost to himself.
You tilted your head, smiling. “Why would I stop? It’s Christmas.”
“Still,” he muttered, looking down at the chocolate in his hand. “You make everything... better. Not just Christmas. Just—everything.”
Your cheeks warmed, and you reached for a piece of chocolate yourself to hide your flustered smile. “That’s what friends are for, right?”
The word friends made his heart ache in the best and worst way. He wanted to be more than that, but the thought of ruining what you already had was enough to keep him silent.
“You’ve been so good to me this year, Remus,” you said after a moment, surprising him. “Honestly, I don’t know what I’d do without you.”
His head snapped up, his eyes wide. “Me? You’re the one who’s—” He stopped himself, shaking his head. “Never mind.”
You leaned closer, curiosity sparkling in your eyes. “No, go on. What were you going to say?”
He hesitated, then sighed, giving you a small smile. “You’re the one who’s made this year so great. I mean, you’re... you’re incredible, really. You make everyone feel special. It’s hard not to feel lucky just being around you.”
Your heart fluttered, and you looked down at your lap, feeling suddenly shy. “Well, if I make everyone feel special, it’s only because I learned from you.”
Remus blinked, caught completely off guard. “From me?”
You nodded, meeting his gaze with a soft smile. “Of course. You’re one of the kindest people I know, Remus. And you always know how to make people feel cared for, even when you don’t realize it.”
For a moment, neither of you spoke. The room seemed to grow quieter, the glow of the fire casting a soft light over your faces.
“Thank you,” he said finally, his voice barely above a whisper.
“Merry Christmas, Remus,” you said, your smile brighter than any decoration in the room.
“Merry Christmas,” he replied, his heart so full it felt like it might burst.
He still didn’t know if he’d ever work up the courage to tell you how he really felt, but for now, being your friend—your favourite friend, he hoped—was more than enough.
(SHE’S) JUST A PHASE: TRICK OR TREAT!
masterlist
—
happy halloween! this is not an actual chapter unfortunately, so those who got their hopes up at an early release i’m SORRY 😓 however i consider it more fun! this is what each chapter from the sjap universe would wear on halloween🙂↕️ consider it 14.5! i hope you enjoy this as much as i did making it. also shoutout to my babygirl ree for helping me with these. I LOVE YOU BAD! <3
megumi fushiguro as BILLY LOOMIS
“ghostface? nah too basic” the raven states broadly.
sure scream was his favourite horror slasher but dressing up ghostface was too overrated, too tacky. he needed to go as someone more niche, someone he knows nobody would dress up as, someone hotter. introducing billy loomis! still the same franchise just a tad bit more creative! (not entirely but we’ll give him pity points) but man did that he look hot. the fake blood dripping down was the cherry on top. seeing his hair not entirely gelled up for the first time the guys realised he looked like his dad. like a lot
“no shit, we’re related” he said in front of the bathroom mirror as he wets his hair for the 3rd time, trying to perfect his look.
toge rolled his eyes, chewing on his toothpick
“ya know megumi you should’ve just went as ghostface, atleast no one would look at that makeshift shitty hair of yours” toge sneered
megumi turns around, hair soaked as he goes into punch the platinum blonde but misses as the water drips down his face into eyes as he stumbles back into the counter.
“woah slow down, the only person you’re gonna kill is yourself at this rate” yuta quips as he walks in to see what the commotion was going on in the bathroom.
megumi looks at yuta, then back at toge, then back at yuta. his head going side to side frivolously before bursting out laughing.
“what’s so funny?” yuta questioned
“didn’t pin you for the type of guy to dress up as a gay cowboy” he sneers, wiping both tears and the dripping water from his eyes.
toge inumaki & yuta okkotsu as ENNIS & JACK
“what do you mean gay cowboys?” yuta says, slowly turning to toge with an eyebrow raised.
“you mean you seriously never watched brokeback mountain?” megumi asks after recovering from his laugher fit
“am i supposed to?”
he looks at toge who was smirking with that stupid toothpick in his mouth, twirling it around.
“and i thought i was evil” he shakes his head chuckling.
yes, yuta did in fact not know that toge made him dress up as ennis and jack from brokeback mountain (yuta being ennis and toge being jack). in his defence toge did ask if he wanted to go as cowboys for halloween and yuta being yuta obviously said yes. though he did find it suspicious that toge wouldn’t let him pick out just any cowboy costume. he said he had a vision in his head and to just go with it. yuta just thought he was going for a niche version of a cowboy not the version where they’re two bestfriends fucking on top of a mountain. it’s far too late to change their costumes now, so yuta left their condo in what seemed to be “bro-love” going too far. on the other hand toge was EATING it up, strutting the down the streets in the “best costume” (his term) of the night. toge definitely forced yuta to make tiktoks to brokeback mountain audios throughout the night and def went viral LMFAO. poor yuta is embarrassed.
“oh my god, i am mortified” yuta says into his hands after hearing megumi explain the plot of brokeback mountain - he toned it down of course so it wouldn’t kill yuta.
“eh you’ll be fine, it’s not the worst costume in the world”
toge almost caught whiplash by how fast he turned his head. not the worst? what the fuck is that supposed to mean. he knows megumi can’t be talking looking like that.
“you know megumi, with all that blood you could pass as somebody’s diva cup” toge spits at him, obviously hurt.
“did somebody say diva?!”
yuji itadori as ROCKY BALBOA
yes yuji we are talking about you!
this may be fan service for ree… but guys TELL ME YOU DON’T SEE IT ASWELL? i could not find a rocky costume that i thought was fitting but imagine the second picture but with his shirt off🙂↕️ yeah…. just thinking thoughts…
yuji would be getting stared at ALL NIGHT and gets asked for tons of pictures in his costume because he looks so damn good. he definitely makes tiktok thirst trap edits because at the end of the day he’s still just a loser trapped in a hot body </3 the guys end up going through a haunted house and yuji actually gets scared and knocks one of the workers out… he blames it on method acting so he doesn’t get the cops called on him and somehow it works? also trust he is flexing his muscles the entire night and challenges literally everybody (mostly girls) to arm wrestle him. his go-to pick up line throughout the night is “if i win i get your number, if you win you get mine” and he winks at them before the countdown. CORNY but it works (i would fold as well sorry)
“yuji stop flexing yours abs for one second it’s gross, you look like a male prostitute” toge groans in disgust as he kicks rocks on the sidewalk”
“the correct term is actually jiggalo, and i think you’re just jealous that i’m hot and cool and you’re just a shitty gay cowboy” yuji replies back through a smile as he waves to everybody who’s pointing at him
“IT’S BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN”
“ooooo is that the name of the new club that opened?”
if you guys want more boxer yuji go read BATTERED N’ BLUE by the lovely @aozui <3
yn as MAXINE MINX
life being the baddest isn’t easy and it especially isn’t easy when it comes to choosing a halloween costume. between wanting to be hot, but also niche, but not too niche! but enough that it surpasses basic, but also fun... did i mention hot? so who better to dress up than someone who fits all the requirements than none other than maxine minx!
yn had this planned months ago. she wanted everything to be perfect down to a T, and she was not the type to pull something last minute out of her ass. she was not going to put on an amazon corset and call it a day. hell, it wasn't even just her, the whole apartment had planned their costumes in june. if serving cunt was a dysfunctional group of roommates it was them. think bodies bodies bodies x scream 6... yeah i would not want to be their enemies if a psycho killer was going around murdering people. and best believe their group pictures are turning out so hot (partly due to the personal photographer they booked before LMFAO) but everyone knows the other part is their well-thought-out costumes.
"oh my god did you really bleach your eyebrows for this" a familiar voice commented at her as she walked into the kitchen.
"the dedication is crazy, but i guess you still look hot."
a smile broke out of her, still focusing on preparing drinks for the party of the century.
"it's just concealer babe", she replies as she looks up from the drink station to where she was met with nobara, who was sitting on the sage love chair in an all too familiar pose.
"no fucking way... are you-?"
nobara kugisaki as CATHERINE TRAMELLE
what’s better than one cover girl? two cover girls!!! or in this case replace cover girl with evil femcel maneater final boss!
the party girls have a tradition of watching a horror/slasher movie each sunday during october, so when nobara said she hasn't watched basic instinct last year, trust it was the first movie they watched on that first sunday.
"ugh, i just know she would of made a bomb fucking costume for halloween", nobara groans.
"too bad you're already going as marie antoinette" panda sighs.
"there's always next year" yn states, clearing up the popcorn on the coffee table.
and next year indeed.
meticulously choosing each article of clothing and hand picking accessories so she could be the emodiment of catherine tramelle. even though she was one glass of red wine away from being mistaken as a housewife of beverly hills, it didn't matter. dressing up as someone so smart, so sinister, so sexy was the principle itself. she didn't care if nobody understood who she was or being asked if she knew it was a halloween party, not a dinner at nobu - she knew she was that fucking girl. but of course, most people knew who she was, even the cute girl standing by the drinks station who was ogling her the entire night and who so badly wanted nobara's number. spoilers: she got it.
"i can't believe you actually stuck with", yn says after managing to close her jaw.
"god you look hot"
nobara smirks at her reaction.
"i wasn't going to let the opportunity slip pass that easily" nobara smirks to herself.
before yn could respond, a loud bang followed by the sound of a door being slammed interrupted her train of thought.
"FUCK!"
both the girls' heads whipped around the find a panicking maki pacing out her room.
"has anyone seen my anastasia lip liner?" she huffs, crossing her arms.
maki zenin as BETTY BOOP
the look, the lips, the hips, the taste… everybody please welcome miss zenin!!!
"no but have you seen an extra pair of panties? i need to change."
i mean this costume was in the works since her hair cut. i mean come on… IT’S PERFECT? maki as betty boop? nah betty boop as maki zenin! uh huh nodding my head right now. an iconic if not the iconic costume in the apartment. maki is not one to typically wear dresses - mostly sticking to jeans, shorts & skirts and the occasional jorts but DRESSES? you’d have to be either jesus or yuta to convince her to put one on let alone a mini dress. and good lord she looked good. yuta almost had a heart attack when she sent him a picture of her costume. yeah it was gonna be a long night for him.
she rolled her eyes at the remark but can’t help the smile that betrays her facade. she looks over to the silhouette standing in the hallway, almost… waiting?
“panda we aren’t playing a theme song just for you to come out just show us your costume already”, maki sighs
he stomps into the living room with a sulk in his step.
“you guys are boring bitches”, he huffs.
panda as a SONNY ANGEL
the girls all had their mouths shaped in an ‘o’ as he entered, hands on hips - giving the most sass imaginable.
“panda what happened”, nobara stifled a giggle behind her hand.
so this was not panda's original costume but his backup one... unfortunately for him, his original costume was to go as a slutty version of batman but he was then met with his long awaited karma..
RIIIIIIP
“oh my fucking god” he said to himself as he hesitantly checks the back of his costume. he finds a hole right where his left ass cheek is.
a big one.
luckily for him, he’s immune to costume malfunctions and bought a back up for times like this. sure it wasn’t as creative or risqué as slutty batman but it was the next best thing.
“i don’t want to talk about”, he mumbles, earning an eruption of laughs from the girls.
he stood there in silence as they speculate what on earth could have happened to his original costume. eventually he told them which then lead to another fit of giggles. atleast that was over. they had a party to plan. and besides, sonny angels are supposed to bring you good luck right?
wrong.
the night was a mess. panda got atleast 7 different drinks spilt on him that night and almost got into a fight with todo because he won the ‘best costume’ contest. (he was a passenger seat and mai was chappel roan).
—
BONUS COSTUMES!
as we know there are two weekends where halloween is celebrated, and this year is no different. debate after debate, "should we celebrate halloween the week before or 2 days after the actual event?" well, why not both! both the party girls and tridant came together to complete the "maze of death" (it was just a corn maze, famous for the actors jump scaring you every now and then - similar to the haunted house the boys went to, but much more intense) these set of costumes are what both groups wore on halloweekend 2 + how each character would react during a haunted maze!
megumi as THE SCARECROW
megumi got confused and thought yn’s costume last week was hers this week and decided to match with her without telling her. (he thought it would of scored him brownie points) though when he found out yn was dressed up as someone else he was immediately embarrassed. yn thought it was adorable how he tried to match with her so called costume and gave him a kiss on the cheek as a recognition for his efforts. (definitely got those brownie points)
he walks WAY ahead. he wants it OVER with >"if i walk faster, they can't get me" type mf. he's miserable but can't take yn laughing behind him at all. he’s going through many stages of grief.
he unfortunately has to lead the group through it even though he's pretty scared himself, but he calms himself by saying "toge def was worse" or some shit. (spoilers he was in fact worse)
yuji as XANDRA
i hate gay halloween, what do you mean you’re xandra from papa’s freezeria?
oh he scares the workers BACK. my king.
had full intentions of scaring yuta during it but got caught off guard and accidentally punched the workers that personally jump-scared him because he's automatically triggered into fight or flight mode like no tomorrow.
yn & toge as SHARPAY AND RYAN EVANS
they came up with this idea when toge was at their apartment doing the usual antics (eating all their food) and saw yn watching high school musical. told her it would make a pretty good halloween costume as a duo and he saw the bulb light up in her head.
first they have a competition who won't be scared but i fear they are desperately clinging onto each other 10 seconds in then act like NOTHING happened once they exit toge is scared so much he can't talk, yn is pale as fuck, and they agree to never talk about it.
(yn says she won the competition 2 hours later)
maki & yuta as a COP AND PRISONER
everyone awwed at them when they saw their costumes. i mean how could you not? #coupleoftheyear
oh yeah so…. yuta wanted to ditch at the entrance but maki hauled his ass with her. he doesn't do well at all, he pukes at the end and maki just patted him on the back.
maki has a poker face throughout the whole thing. does not gaf. she is not scared at all and corrects how they can be scarier to their FACE mid scare. the workers almost walk out.
nobara & panda as the BEE & COOKIE
committing to the ynmegumi bit so bad im ctfu.
panda’s more depressed about how he missed the volunteer dates in order to work at it. but like yuta, he screams so much it haunts nobara’s ears. he screams like a little girl. he almost pisses his pants and hides behind nobara but it makes him a BIGGER target because ofc they're gonna see a 6 ft giant trying to hide??? the haunted house workers def bully panda in the groupchat after their shift ends. he tries to act all tough afterwards saying he "handled it like a champ".
nobara has an average reaction ywkim, she does scream and does get scared but she's literally fine. she NEVER lets panda live it down though, she has a video of panda screaming too.
SKZ Mate Chapter 12
Warnings: An angsty Minho
Warmth and trust enveloped Y/N's body as she woke up next to Chan. His naked body flush against hers while his strong arm wraps around her waist. Y/N looked at Chan's sleeping form and noticed the way his face was scrunched. Even in his sleep, he was fretting about so many things and none of them she knew. The only thing she understood so far from Jisung was Chan had a lot of shares in companies and ran small businesses. On top of that Chan was trying to prevent Hongjoong from looking here. Y/N knew there was a rivalry but neither Hongjoong or Chan told her. Y/N wanted to know more about his troubles but decided he would tell her when he was ready. Y/N decided she wanted to bring breakfast up for Chan when he caught her slipping away. "Shh. I'm going to get you breakfast." Y/N cooed as she pushed the alpha down. "No can do, little wolf. I promised to train Jeongin today and take him hunting. And then I have to have a meeting with the council along with some other things." Chan said sleepily as he looked around the room to collect his thoughts before looking back at his disappointed omega. "Little wolf you can't spend all the time in the world with me, as much as I enjoy having you by my side, you are the other wolves mate too. Why don't you spend some time with the beta's today." Chan reasoned. "How do you want me to spend time with them?" Y/N asked nervously as Hongjoong normally got her to have sex with them to keep them happy. She never actually spent time with them, only the omegas who she shared a room with.
Chan sat up, his brows furrowed in confusion at her words. "Talk with them. Sit with them. Do not do anything you don't want to do. Just have fun is all I ask. They are not like Hongjoong's betas. If you want to kiss them, go ahead. If you want them to touch you, that's okay. If they want to touch you and you don't want that tell them no." Chan assured as he put her mind at ease. "How is Hyunjin?" Y/N asked awkwardly. "He's chained to the bed. He's not in a good way. You did a number on him." Chan stated. "Why have you chained him to the bed? Have you hurt him?" Y/N asked worriedly, guilt radiating through her body. "No omega I have not. If I didn't you might not be in one piece." Chan stated coldly but Y/N sensed there was more to it, but she didn't want to challenge him. Instead, Y/N headed into the kitchen to greet a quiet Minho who didn't even acknowledge her. Y/N wondered if he regretted comforting her last night. "Minho ah. Have I done something?" Y/N blurted out, causing the beta to look at her. "No," Minho answered before turning back to his cooking. "Hello." Jisung sang as he came into the kitchen only to be silenced by Minho's glare. "How is my favourite wolf?" "Fine," Y/N answered. "Good, come join me and Changbin outside." Jisung gave her a slight look as he dragged her outside by the parked cars where Felix, Seungmin and Changbin were. Changbin beckoned Y/N into the car with the others. "So you're probably wondering why you are here?" Changbin stated seriously. "Shut up and get on with it Changbin," Seungmin grumbled. "Kids listen," Changbin stated, silencing them all. "It is a very important day tomorrow. It is Minho hyungs birthday! Now Minho thinks we have all forgotten because normally we plan to go out and do something but we can't in case Hongjoong finds Y/N so we are celebrating at home but he cannot know what we are planning. So, we need to get our lovely beta to run around and do chores while we set the house up." "Alright, me and Jeongin can take him into the city to get things," Seungmin stated. "Good, we need to make sure he doesn't suspect a thing. Chan did warn if we push him too far we are all being punished as Minho Hyung is sensitive at the moment." Changbin warned. "What about Hyunjin?" Felix asked. "He will be there to celebrate. I checked on him this morning he's getting better, but man he stinks." Jisung stated. "Now little wolf your job is to help Felix cook up some party food while me and Chan set up the house with Hyunjin. Are we all happy? Good," Changbin explained before getting out of the car.
Y/N felt really sad because Minho was sad. Y/N didn't even know it was his birthday and she had nothing to give him. She didn't even know how to make Minho happy. "Don't be sad Y/N, if you want to make Minho happy you can, as long as you don't tell him about the surprise," Felix whispered as he leaned over to the front seat. "I don't even know how. He seemed so sad today." Y/N admitted. "Minho Hyung doesn't really like to express his feelings when he is unhappy, but what Minho does appreciate is if you recognise them without making a fuss. Minho isn't overly affectionate but appreciates it when you offer." Felix promised as he left the car, leaving Y/N alone with Jisung and Seungmin who were sat on their phones planning Minho's surprise, when Y/N had a thought. Y/N was going to see if Minho needed any help today in hopes it would cheer him up, but when she reached the kitchen he was angrily washing up. Slamming the cup into the sink with a huff. It bothered Y/N and she felt it was cruel that that they were treating him that way so Y/N walked up to him and wrapped her arms around his waist, making him jump. "Yah!" Minho jolted and dropped the cup that was in his hand into the sink as he felt her small arms wrap around his waist, her head pressed into his back. "What are you doing?" "Nothing," Y/N whispered, placing a bold kiss on his neck before moving away to collect the plates. She noticed the tops of his ears started to go red at her actions. "Yah, what are you doing?" Minho shouted. His voice showed a hint of irritation but his face held nervousness. "Helping my beta because I wanted to spend time with you. I didn't have to help." Y/N grumbled as she slammed the plates on the side, giving him a look. Minho looked back at the sink a guilty look boiling in his stomach as he watched you leave. He wanted to say something but he couldn't do it. What he didn't expect was you to come back with a towel to help him dry up. A warm fuzzy feeling started to embark in his stomach at the thought of you spending time with him. "Minho?" Y/N whispered as she looked at the beta who hummed at her. "Minho?" Y/N called out again causing him to look up at her in confusion. As soon as he looked up at her she planted a kiss on his soft lips. Before Y/N could pull away Minho grabbed her neck pushing her closer. He was gentle, almost unsure of what to do. "Your neck is tight go and see Seungmin to fix it," Minho stated, his voice turning cold as he faced his back to her. Did I push him too far? "Ya come here," Seungmin demanded from the other room.
Seungmin threw a cushion on the floor in front of him and beckoned her forward with the living room blanket in his hand. "Take your top off and wrap this around you," Seungmin ordered. Y/N awkwardly took off her t-shirt and wrapped the blanket around her and under her arms so he had access to her shoulders. Seungmin carefully touched her shoulders pressing different points until he found the muscle knots. Seungmin hadn't expected her to have so many that he kind of needed Hyunjin to push some of them out as he wasn't sure how to push the ones out by her jaw. "If it hurts tell me," Seungmin whispered as he carefully rubbed her neck to her ear trying to push them out without too much force. "Ah. Ah. Ah." Y/N yelped. "Shh, it's nearly out," Seungmin whispered as he slid his hand across her neck. "All done. Some of them like this one need Hyunjin because I don't want to make it worse." "Thank you Seungmin-ah." Y/N tilted her head back slightly to thank him. Seungmin smiled angelically and grabbed her head in his hands to push it up. His hands slowly played with her hair, occasionally pulling it while he massaged her head. "Minho does appreciate your kiss. You just made him nervous." Seungmin whispered in her ear. "If you keep teasing him, you'll make him snap." Seungmins words were a warning, but you were never one to listen to warnings.
I HAVE to address this MHA leak. This is getting out of hand. I think you guys may actually like this chapter if you pause and take a deep breath.
First, I rarely post about this kind of thing as I hate getting caught up in fandom drama- very few things take the enjoyment out of something quicker than people being pissy to each other (and to creators) because something didn’t go how you imagine.
BUT.
I need to say a few words in the defence of this new chapter, and I think there are a lot of really positive things going on that can be chalked up to character GROWTH and not character ASSASSINATION as everyone has been yelling about. Things that actually really tie up three really great characters in healthy ways, and in ways that also highlight the themes of moving forward and reaching out hands that the author has been pushing. I’m not going to address Ochaco’s growth here, which is also good, but I need to discuss the Baku-Deku stuff.
I’d like to preface all of the following with one important thing: when I read and watched MHA I never once incorporated SHIPPING into my enjoyment of these characters. It wasn’t the part of the text I was interested in. Did I think there were some cute moments between Izuku and Ochaco? Yep. But that’s about as far as it went for me. I also fully expected from day one that they would end up together because that’s how these kinds of stories in this genre go. I will also say that the character dynamics and growth between Izuku and Bakugo was something that is generally well done and a key aspect of why both those characters are so enjoyable for me-one of my favourite parts.
So, when I read these leaks, I actually found a bunch that I think tied up these characters really well.
I’m going to start with the big elephant-in-the-room one that everyone has been freaking out over. The: “Izuku would never turn down an offer to work in an agency with Bakugo that’s just so not him and he’s awful and I’ll never forgive him” thing that I just can’t…understand why people are angry about. This is a GOOD thing.
One of the things I actually sort of critical about in the INITIAL ending was that Izuku seemed like he still wasn’t putting himself first. One of the things that especially Bakugo KNEW to be the case about Izuku was he “never thinks of himself” and how self-destructive that was. We saw it time and time again- he was always sacrificing things for other people: his health, his time, even his QUIRK were sacrificed for OTHERS. He never put his own self-interest FIRST. He grew in strength, he grew and matured as a HERO, but part of saving people means also knowing how to save yourself.
The initial epilogue had this air of ‘he’s sacrificed something and he’s incomplete due to that’. Others (Bakugo and class 1-A) stepped up to help him fill that hole with the suit, and that thematically worked, but there was still a gap there for Izuku’s growth. I think this chapter completes his arc in the best possible way. Izuku did something purely for himself. He LEARNED that last lesson he needed to learn. AND he did it by ALSO helping Bakugo learn a lesson too.
Bakugo offers, in sort of a round about way, for Izuku to join his agency as a sidekick. He’s turned down other sidekicks because they thought he was amazing and wanted to be in his shadow. He wanted a sidekick that would say they would ‘surpass’ him. For Bakugo that has always been what he admired (and sometimes resented) about Izuku- Izuku wasn’t afraid to say that he would push himself to be better than Bakugo, and in doing so they both made themselves stronger.
But I’d argue that this rivalry was an endless cycle for both of these characters- not an opportunity for them to change how they saw each other. Izuku would surpass Bakugo and Bakugo would work to surpass Izuku on and on for eternity. Bakugo even mentions this in the hospital- that he hoped they would get to compete with each other “for the rest of their lives”. BUT that would also mean they would NEVER be more than rivals to each other.
When Izuku turns down Bakugo’s offer to be his sidekick, Izuku ISN’T saying “no, I don’t value you or what you did for me with the suit”. He’s saying, “I know what you did for me and I’m thankful for you, but I have to make my own choices separate from you.” Izuku is NOT Bakugo’s sidekick, or vice versa. They are adults that should have their own separate goals and lives. And, in a way, he’s also telling Bakugo, “you are your OWN person. You don’t need ME to be stronger. Keep pushing yourself forward on your OWN terms.”
And that’s the thing about Bakugo- from day one his growth has been DEFINED by Izuku. He’s pushed himself forward almost entirely because of how he sees Izuku, as a rival and, in some cases, as someone who he has to constantly try to live up to. That isn’t particularly HEALTHY. Bakugo sacrificed his LIFE to “catch up to Izuku.” Like, great acknowledgement of Izuku’s ability and moving on from being a bully, but not a physically healthy thing to do. There were a couple things about the initial epilogue that made me a little edgy because while Bakugo grieved the loss of OFA almost more than Izuku did (which was growth, and interesting growth), then worked tirelessly to get Izuku the suit, he did it because he wanted Izuku to keep being his RIVAL.
When Izuku turned down the offer to be his sidekick, but in the same scene also says he can’t wait to work as a hero again with his friends and see Bakugo MORE OFTEN as a guest lecturer in his Hero classes (which like, I don’t see why people are pissed about since that’s literally one of the biggest fanfic ideas people have been writing about since chapter 430 dropped), it actually shows how much more GROWN UP these two ARE. Izuku is acknowledging Bakugo as not only an EQUAL (not someone to chase after), but also a FRIEND. Someone he looks forward to seeing and working with. In fact, Bakugo saying “see you” isn’t a goodbye. It’s a PROMISE.
The panels of Izuku walking away are actual true character growth for BOTH of them. Izuku putting himself and his choices first, and Bakugo, for the first actual time in the ENTIRE SERIES feels like he doesn’t have to chase after Izuku. He can let themselves walk their own paths!
And, because the writing is actually better than you guys are giving it credit for, this choice actually does give them opportunity to still compete because Izuku will be on the chart now as an independent agent (because remember he’s not rejecting the suit and hero work, he’s incorporating hero work into a teaching career he’s ALSO grown to love and is good at). So now, as Izuku starts climbing the charts on his own (which he will because it’s Izuku we’re talking about), they can still push each other forward ANYWAY so like…that’s a GOOD thing. It’s like having your cake and eating it too, for BOTH of them.
Take off the shipper hats for a moment. And really LOOK at this scene. Is it kind of sad they won’t work together every day? Maybe. Does it mean they are growing apart and will never see each other? NO. They are closer than ever because now they are EQUALS and FRIENDS- neither is ahead of the other.
Leah williamson "how can you fall asleep at a time like this" watching a football match at home
superstitions II l.williamson
you were happily tucked into bed, glasses on and reading light pointed to the final ten chapters of the book you'd spent the last month battling to finish, never seeming to have enough free time to get through more than a few pages before something came up.
but with your girlfriend having dinner at her best friends house you finally had the cherish little pocket of time you needed to finish, incredibly invested in the story thus far and dying to know who killed the main protagonist.
you planned to sit down and read for an hour before you'd make yourself something to eat and then finish off the rest, angling for an early night as you were quite tired from a long week of work and family commitments.
you'd only made your way through a few pages before you heard the front door click from downstairs and you frowned, snapping the book shut and swinging out of bed.
but hearing a familiar laughter ring out through the home your shoulders sagged in slight relief, but the frown never left your features as leah wasn't due home for a few hours yet, and it didn't seem like she was alone.
"baby girl?" you appeared at the top of the landing at leahs call, the blonde stood at the bottom of the stairs with a happy smile, the same adoring twinkle in her gaze anytime she looked upon you.
"i bought dinner babe, come make a plate." she nodded her head toward the kitchen as you made your way downstairs. "hi wally." you greeted the girl sat at the counter with a surprised smile who span around.
giving her a hug you lingered by her side with her arm around your waist, various takeout containers from leahs favourite italian place down the road spread out in front of you.
"why do you look so shocked?" your girlfriend asked with a mouthful of pasta making you roll your eyes, sometimes you could swear she was a sixteen year old boy and not a twenty six year old woman.
"i just wasn't expecting...this." you gestured as lia let go of you to start eating her own plate of food. "well i hope you weren't expecting me to cook love you know thats not in my wheelhouse." leah grinned and again nodded for you to make a plate.
"obviously not. but you told me this morning you were going to lia's for dinner and to watch arsenal play, not coming here with lia and dinner." you retorted as you started to dish yourself up some food.
"no i said wally was coming over for dinner and then we're going to watch arsenal play." the blonde argued with you as you grabbed your plate and sat down on the stool beside lia.
"i'm not arguing with you about this lee, i just had a hot date with a book you've interrupted." you smiled before digging in as your girlfriend pulled a face. "you are not still reading that are you? baby its been like five months!" leah groaned as lia reached over to smack her hand.
"and what was the last book you read leah? picture ones don't count." the swiss defended you causing your girlfriend to scoff and you to grin, bumping your shoulder into hers appreciatively.
"well your little book date will have to wait till later baby girl we have traditions to attend to!" leah warned as you threw your head back with a groan. "you can't be serious? its all superstition love it doesn't actually help anything!" you laughed as both footballers now turned their gazes onto you.
"yes it does." they spoke seriously and in sync making you pull a face and roll your eyes. "no it doesn't." you sighed, knowing regardless this was not an argument you'd be winning anytime soon with it clearly being two against one.
"leah i don't want to!" you whined after the blonde had wrestled a jersey onto you, laying down on the bed stubbornly. "well too bad! now are you walking downstairs or am i carrying you?" the girl questioned, hands on her hips as she stared down at you from the end of the bed.
"why can't you and lia just do everything you normally do but without me?" you sighed as your girlfriend rolled her eyes. "because thats not how we did it last time and last time we won 5-0. you weren't here the time before that and we lost 4-2." leah rationalized, gesturing her hands around wildly.
"can i at least read my book while you watch?" you tried to bargain as the defender shook her head. "no! you didn't do that last time, isn't happening this time. now up!" leah motioned, clicking her fingers impatiently.
"kick off in two minutes!" you heard lia yell from downstairs as your leah's eyes widened and before you could blink she was manhandling you up and off the bed, pulling you toward the door as you groaned but didn't dig your heels in.
"okay. you were there with the red pillow and the scarf, i was here with the blue pillow and babe you were here." you were once again manhandled to lay down between leahs legs, a beanie forcefully tugged over your head, your hand smacked away as you tried to pull it off.
"oh! i think your hood was up too." lia remembered as leah quickly pulled her hood up and over her head, the whistle blowing for kick off. "the two of you are ridiculous, you know that right?" you sighed but wiggled around a little to find a comfortable position.
"perfect. you were in a grumpy mood last game too, thank you for your cooperation stroppy!" leah teased peppering several kisses across your face as you pushed her away, interlocking your fingers with hers and wrapping her arms tighter around you.
as time passed you grew bored of the game. you loved watching your girlfriend play and would never ever miss an opportunity to be there and cheer her on. but you'd never shared the same passion that the blonde had for watching games at home.
you'd appease her by sitting with her at times when she wanted, though your attention was always elsewhere and you encouraged her to invite the girls over so she had other people to actually watch with.
but the premier league north london derby always commanded an extra special set of rules and regulations, and your strong willed girlfriend was always the first to enforce them.
you sat quietly and patiently throughout the first half, arsenal going up 2-0 before suddenly by half time it was 2-1, and then a few minutes into the second half it was locked 2-2.
you'd long grown used to leahs tendencies to scream at the players on tv as if they could hear her, learning how to block it out and zone off into your own little world.
today was no different though you were much more tired than most nights you laid down with the blonde to watch a match, and with lia there for her to discuss and commentate with it was easy for you to drift off.
"hey! there's no sleeping during the derby." leah laughed, pinching your cheeks as she noticed your eyes closed, lia smiling in amusement as you exhaled deeply.
"i'm here, i'm wearing your stupid vintage shirt and beanie, im sitting in my designated position. why can't i take a nap?" you huffed in annoyance. "how can you fall asleep at a time like this baby? its deadlocked 2-2 this is fantastic football babe!" leah protested as you shrugged, unbothered.
"leave her be." lia chuckled as you shot her a grateful smile, eyes closing again as leah started to argue, her best friend only shushing her as eventually her protests died down.
a smile curled into your lips as you felt her body shift beneath you, hands on your hips pulling you upwards so she could hug you a little tighter, warm lips affectionately pressing a soft kiss to your cheek.
"i can't believe she'd rather sleep than watch this, this is the best match of the season so far!"
Jester Stole His Thorny Crown
Chapter One
He never had a choice in his life. His dreams were nothing more that that. Dreams. But then he met a lounge singer at his brother club and everything changed.
Warnings: drugs (not taken), gun violence
Series Masterlist
This wasn't his job. It was beneath him, usually a job for his inexperienced little brother. But Arthur was at home, being looked after by their maman as he nursed a non-fatal gunshot wound.
Charles was pissed as he drove through the streets of Monaco. This was Arthur's job, not his. If he had listened to Charles and Lorenzo, and hadn't run in with guns (quite literally) blazing, they wouldn't be in this position.
The people of Monaco knew about the people who, essentially owned them. They had a royal family, but they didn't have as much Power as the Leclercs. As soon as they saw the black Ferrari SF90 Stradale, they knew to get out of the way.
On this day, the only thing stopping Charles from driving into everybody in his way was his love for his precious car. As soon as he had checked through the clubs, he was going to go to his mamans house and murder Arthur.
Charles parked his car. Well, parked is a term used loosely. He stopped the car wherever he wanted and every other driver on the roads of Monaco had to work around him. This was maybe one of the best demonstrations of power that the Leclerc family had.
When Charles walked into the first club, the twenty six year old was reminded of why he hated it so much. He had loved it when he was a fresh faced eighteen year old, receiving his first assignment from his father.
But now this was Arthurs job, appointed by Lorenzo. He had taken over as head of the family when they lost their father, just a year after Charles had received his first assignment.
The family didn't handle it well. The Leclerc's had almost started a full on war with the Gasly family of France. But Pascale, the matriarch, kept them in check.
The club was disgusting. It was the middle of the day so it was empty, aside from the club manager. The floor was covered in cups and bottles and odd sticky patches that that Charles was sure to avoid. There was the odd condom on the floor; Charles turned his nose up at that.
He checked the books, make sure the money was in order. He swapped out the cash in the safe for the drugs that the club sold. "Get this shithole cleaned up," he commanded the club manager and left.
The second club was much the same. He inspected the books and swapped the money in the safe for the drugs. This club was somehow dirtier than the first one. Several of the stall doors in the bathroom had been kicked in (Charles wasn't happy about leaving money for such things).
The third club Charles knew it be Arthurs favourite.
It wasn't a night club, more like a lounge. The lighting was low, with tables covering the floor. Comfortable, cosy booths lined the walls and the tables in the middle of the of the floor looked equally as comfortable. The art on the wall was tasteful and the air didn't stink like beer and piss.
Soft piano music greeted him and Charles realised why this was Arthurs favourite club. It felt legit.
Charles looked to the piano on the stage at the back of the club. There was a spotlight pointed towards it, illuminating the instrument and the girl playing it. As he approached, Charles watched her fingers dance across the keys. The tune was soft and melodic, not something that he recognised.
She seemed to be the only person in the club. "One second, Arthur!" She called, not looking up from her piano.
Charles stopped short. "I'm sorry?" He called and the piano music stopped. "Are you always familiar with my brother?"
Her eyes were wide as she stood and closed the lid of her grand piano. "Shit," she hissed, but Charles still heard it. "I'm so sorry, Mr Leclerc. I was expecting your brother."
Charles stepped onto the stage. His presence alone was terrifying, a far cry from Arthur, who treated the pianist like an old friend. She couldn't stop her knees from buckling as he approached. "He got shot," Charles said as he sat at the piano. "He'll be back in action soon."
He lifted the lid of the piano and pressed a key. As a boy Chalres had loved the piano. His father had encouraged him to play, but he hadn't touched a piano since Hervé dad passed. Even now, he couldn't bring himself to play more than a few notes.
"Are you the manager here?" Charles asked, again shutting the piano lid. She shook her head, eyes looked towards the bar while he continued to stare at her. "You shouldn't be in here, then."
She sucked in a breath. The gun in his waistband had become apparent the moment he sat at the piano. "Uhm, Arthur gave me a key so that I could come in and practice," she said as she shifted her weight from one foot to the other.
Charles let out something of a controlled huff and stood from the piano. He headed past the stage, to where the office was, and instantly began searching through the desk for the books.
The pianist followed him. "You shouldn't be in here," he said and pulled out the papers he needed. She was still standing in the doorway as he checked through it. "Seriously, get out."
"I'm sorry," she said, still leaning against the door frame. "I just... is Arthur okay?"
Charles stared at her for a moment before nodding his head, but he didn't look happy. "A minor gunshot wound," he said. "He's sleeping on our mouths couch at the moment."
Letting out a relieved breath, she walked away from the back office, allowing Charles to swap the money in the safe for drugs.
When he returned to the main floor, the piano was empty. The lid was open, but the pianist wasn't there. Charles didn't check for where she was.
He sat himself at the piano and pressed three keys in a specific tune. It was all so familiar to him, flooding back to him. It had been so long, but it was natural. It was right.
The pianist, Y/N, was at the bar, getting herself a glass of water. The moment she saw Charles walk to the piano she stopped and watched.
He was hesitant at first, allowing himself to get used to the keys. But it didn't take very long for him to get comfortable. Soon enough he was playing like it was the only thing he knew today.
It wasn't perfect, it was barely good, but it was full of heart and soul. She couldn't tear her eyes away from him as he sped up slightly, getting more and more comfortable. There was nothing in the world but him and the music.
Finishing up the song Charles sucked in and rolled his shoulders. He looked around the club, looked at the empty tables, at the art on the wall and at the bar.
He narrowed his eyes as he stood up and walked over. "Were you watching me?" He demanded and she quickly shook her head, looking down at the glass of water in her hands.
"Don't," he barked and marched out of the club.
