Hey. Hey you. You wanna hear about one of my childhood favorite movies that isn’t a masterpiece but is still really good? No? Well too bad! You’re gonna hear me ramble on about it anyway!
Go. Go watch this.
I present to you: An icon from my childhood, since I was 5 years old.
It’s got everything! Action! Adventure! Betrayal! Romance! Secret evil schemes! Musical numbers set to famous classical pieces with cheesy lyrics, and Rob Paulsen as a singing turtle!
It may be a cheesy straight to video Disney movie from the early two thousands, but I don’t care! This movie is really really good! Solid plot, lots of cliches (inevitable), and gets surprisingly dark by the end.
It ain’t for everyone, but give it a shot!
Look, all I’m trying to say is this is still I favorite of mine, I love it a lot, I’m obsessed with it as of late, and I’m doing all I can to make more people aware of its existence.
We good? Good! Now go, it’s on Disney+.

Happy 16th anniversary TMNT 2007 movie!!
This movie helped me get into TMNT at a young age (even though I could not fully do anything with TMNT franchise until about 7 years later, 2014, but eh whatever.)
If you have not seen this movie I recommend it! It is a really good TMNT movie, so for all you turtle fans it is a perfect day to watch this movie!

The thing I really like about the Rocky/Creed franchise is that they play really well into the myth of the hero in a hyper masculine sense that doesnt play into patriarchy. Like they're ultimately narratives about regular people pushing themselves to their limits and succeeding despite everything. Moreover it uses violence that these men commit in a very positive way, for the most part the films don't show the ultimate opponent as malicious or personal in their drive to fight rather it's an expression of pure force of will and enduring through the hard parts of life rather than flexing their power.
Furthermore one of my favourite scenes in the original is right before the big fight Rocky curls up in a bed with Adrian wracked with self doubt and fear while she gives him a pep talk, it's a really good example of positive masculinity because he's not afraid to be weak, not afraid to be emotionally open, that ultimately the two things Rocky is an expert on is boxing and love and he's not diminished by the narrative for being emotional.
It really does rouse the soul and make an arguement for the endurance of the humans spirit.

The scene in the Barbie trailer when Barbie is skating around with Ken and asks "Why is everyone staring at me?"
THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT IT FEELS LIKE TO BE AN ADOLESCENT GIRL.
Living in Barbieland (childhood girlhood) but then suddenly you're all grown up in the real world subject to scrutiny and sexualisation (the guy slapping Barbie's ass) and feeling like existing is a crime?
Being forced by adult men into a box (which leads to the not like other girls syndrome) and exploring the 'real world' (being forced to grow up too quickly) while fighting the realisation that maybe the world sucks and being a woman is so difficult while hoping with all your heart that it's not always going to be this way.
Losing touch with the very things that made you happy because they're considered immature and girly? (The group of teens that said they hadn't played with Barbies since they were five.)
Older women telling you that you have to learn the truth about the world and that you can never have your old life back (Kate Mckinnon's Barbie) despite it being the only thing you yearn for, but also older women being a bright spot and support (the old woman on the bench) in the endless slough of life.
And this is just the trailer!!! I'm so excited for this movie I can't breathe, Greta Gerwig the woman that you are 😭
