The double standard of Sayaka Maizono

Hi! It's been a long while since I've posted here, but I spent Christmas writing this 4 page tangent on this whole ass feeling I have about a Danganronpa character.

WARNING FOR MAJOR DRV3 SPOILERS NEAR THE END USED AS A COMPARISON, MAJOR SPOILERS FOR PARTS OF THH AND MENTION OF SUICIDE

Why is Sayaka dictated to be a lying, cheating snake to most of the western Danganronpa audience?

You could say that this is because her plan was to frame Makoto for the murder of Leon, in which yes this is true, and yes, she deserves some criticism for that. BUT, there’s a few points here I’d like to argue in defense of Sayaka.

I’d like to state that Sayaka isn’t even one of my favorites. I like her, but she’s not one of my all-time favs. I have little bias for her. So, this isn’t some kind of hate speech about one of my favorites getting mischaracterized, I just think people should remember these things about Sayaka and a few other characters.

First of all, what was Sayaka’s plan?

Well, she traded rooms with Makoto in secret to the other students in order to murder Leon in Makoto’s room, framing him in order to graduate and leave the killing game. Well, this might be slightly untrue.

Indeed, she did make this plan, but we are forgetting the fact that the presence of the class trial is something that was only announced after Sayaka’s murder, which means she could’ve thought of this situation entirely differently. In her mind, most likely she’d murder Leon, everyone would think Makoto did it, and then she’d be free to go back to her idol group. To her, there would be no lying during a trial and having to face those she lied to and betrayed, they’d be a distant thought left behind as she goes back to her normal life.

Of course, things didn’t go this way, but I’d like to give Sayaka the benefit of the doubt as Makoto does for several other characters.

There’s also the debate of what Kyoko said during the final bits of chapter 1, about Sayaka leaving Leon’s name on the wall in order to ensure Makoto would live. There’s the debate of if she left it so Makoto could save himself, or if this was simply to get back at Leon for, yknow, murdering her. And yes, this could go either way, it’s left up to what the player thinks, but what I do know is that Sayaka seems to care for Makoto a great deal. Remembering him from middle school, the interactions they had in the Danganronpa 3 anime Despair Arc, hell, Sayaka’s free time events make it so obvious she cares for him in a lot of ways.

It’s all up to the player to decide if Sayaka is innocent or not, but saying she never cared for Makoto is what is hard to believe to me.

What is the double standard against Sayaka?

I have reason to believe the fandom is unjustly biased against Sayaka for a few others of its characters, specifically Aoi and Kyoko. Let’s go chronologically, and begin with Aoi

Aoi’s betrayal

In chapter 4, Sakura, Aoi’s best friend in the killing game, commits suicide in order to sacrifice herself and make up to the other students for being the traitor. Because of false evidence planted by Monokuma, Aoi believes Sakura killed herself because the others hated her as a consequence for her betrayal.

Because of this, Aoi plans to frame herself as the killer of Sakura to get herself and the rest of the students killed by way of a wrong guess and execution.

You can already see similarities here, but instead Aoi is aiming to kill everyone including herself on purpose as a way to “die for their sins.” And obviously, she has her reasons to believe this. She’s a very “grab a bull by the horns,” kind of person. She was also very emotional as of just losing her best friend right in front of her.

My argument is, why does Sayaka not get this kind of sympathy?

In Sayaka’s free time events, she mentioned she had to do a lot of unpleasant things to get where she is as an idol, and although we do not hear of these things, it’s left to the imagination, especially because an idol career in Japan is notably hard on younger girls in showbiz.

Both cases, emotions were running high. Sayaka losing everything she worked for in an instant if she doesn't kill someone, and Aoi just losing her best friend right in front of her eyes. So why is Aoi forgiven, and Sayaka not?

In fact I never hear anyone bring up Aoi’s attempted betrayal in chapter 4, almost as if it never happened. Yet Sayaka is treated so much differently when these betrayals are incredibly similar. Hell, you could even claim Sayaka didn’t know anyone but Leon would die for her crime. (In danganronpa the stage play Leon was also acting real creepy towards her so, can you blame a girl for going after the easiest dude like Leon or Hifumi) But Aoi was prepared to let everyone die for a lie, albeit she did not know it was a lie, but the problem still is evident. She was forgiven a lot easier than Sayaka when she had the experience of 4 class trials at this point, fully knowing the consequences of her actions.

All of this could be forgiven, because both are technically Monokuma's fault. And I would forgive it if it was only Sayaka and Aoi. But it’s not.

Kyoko’s betrayal

In chapter 5, Kyoko is framed by the mastermind for a false murder in order to stop her from coming too close to the truth and destroying the killing game. Kyoko claims herself that if she dies, the mystery of the school would never be solved. And yeah, that’s a pretty good reason for not wanting to die. Until Makoto gets framed instead.

The entire ladder half of the trial, Kyoko is actively framing Makoto because there is no other option. Sacrificing him, to keep herself alive. Sound familiar?

You could say a lot more is at stake this time, and also Makoto did end up getting out alive, but Kyoko had absolutely no idea that Alter Ego would save Makoto when he did. Kyoko was fully willing to let Makoto die a bullshit death so she could solve the mystery of Hope’s Peak and the killing game.

Obviously, I do think she feels guilt for this, but again it’s almost as if it never even happened in terms of how often it’s talked about.

There’s also the question of if Makoto did end up dead, where would Kyoko go from there? He was the only one she trusted and told everything she knew to, and if things went wrong that would be it. Byakuya and her butt heads in every trial, Hiro and Toko are both idiots, Hina is entirely too gullible and trusting. There’s no one left to put her trust into as fully as she did to Makoto.

Again, framing someone in order for a selfish goal and not seeing the consequences, these three instances share that one linking factoid.

But while Sayaka is demonized and called a lying snake, Kyoko and Aoi are fan favorites who get a lot of love from fans.

Why are they different?

V3 SPOILERS AHEAD FOR COMPARISON

I think it’s all about screen time. Sayaka was the first murder of the entire series, obviously she’s nowhere near developed as someone like Kyoko, Toko or even Rantaro from V3 as he becomes plot relevant later in the game after his murder. Sayaka does have somewhat the same effect on Makoto that Kaede does on Shuichi, a lingering first death that dwells on the male protagonist as they potentially loved this girl.

There’s also the fact that not everyone in the first Danganronpa game was created equal, as Sayaka and Leon do not have the full 6 part free time events later characters get in subsequent games. (Leon gets 3, Sayaka gets 2, other characters suffer from this such as Mukuro, Taka, and Mondo) This leaves a lot of Sayaka blank, to fill in if you will, and why I think she’s overlooked in general.

There’s one last thing I’d like to say in defense of Sayaka and even Aoi and Kyoko. They’re teenagers.

The class Makoto is in, is first years, they’re basically teenagers still with these incredibly gifted talents being forced to murder each other for their freedom, dumb decisions are evident in this situation. The pressure, the stress, the fear, all of it twisted up can cause anyone to make decisions they normally wouldn’t. And I think that goes a long way for someone like Sayaka. Who worked for her talent endlessly and it obviously means the world to her if she’s willing to murder a stranger/friend to continue it.

In the end, Sayaka made mistakes, she should be held accountable, but she’s not an evil snake who used Makoto as she saw fit. Everyone in Danganronpa should be held accountable accordingly for their crimes, but obviously Sayaka is not as evil as say Celeste, Korekiyo, Mikan, or hell even Junko. Honestly, she was just a teenager in a desperate situation, it’s like cornering a rat, something is bound to happen.

What is your greatest achievement this year?

Honestly, I'm proud of myself for writing to deadlines this year. A lot of my writing was for events and I'm always terrified I won't make it but I did! I also art'd for the first time for @the-literal-kj

What are your favourite top three fics you've written this year?

Ostinato - Pianist Crowley summons Aziraphale back from Heaven. This let me lean into my pianist background, I loved writing this for the High Pollen Count event.

Breathless - The breath play kink fic that was never planned but @sixbynine-da demanded. I've never had a scene flow out of me like this and it isn't angst!

A Little Life - My first long fic. Folks say it's sad and it is, but to me it also... isn't... Forever indebted to @fuzzygoblin for the music prompt for the Good Omens Song and Poetry exchange and for gamely agreeing despite all the trigger warnings (before they knew it was me writing it). <3

What was your biggest pit of despair moment?

Truthfully, I'm in my lowest point of the year right now. Haven't written a word since finishing Breathless. But I've got amazing friends in this community who have my back. I'll be okay.

What have you learned?

Tell the story you want to tell. Better to write for yourself and the handful of people the story will resonate with than to force a story you think will appeal to the masses. If it's pulling at you, it's pulling for a reason.

Reach out to your idols, I've yet to find one of the people I perceive as BNF's to be anything but kind and encouraging.

I'm pretty sure I can HTML just about anything with a general guide now.

What fic did you want to do but never made it off the ground?

I still have a roughly 20k draft of 1941 that I wanted to finish. It needs to be rewritten, but I will finish it.

What three fics have you read this year that you love?

Someone is Calling Him Shorewards by @harlotofupdog - The first fic that made me break my "I don't read WIPs" rule. Gorgeous and atmospheric and sexy and heartwrenching and mysterious. I don't know how I got the title of angst queen in our little group when Harlot wrote Shorewards.

Quite Contrary by @gingiekittycat - Poor Gingie has listened to me write honest to someone literary analysis of this fic as well as beg for multiple historical prequels. This one lives rent free in my head and will for a long time.

Play for Me the Music of Your Heart by @leviosally - There is one chapter left to go that I (and everyone else) am waiting for with baited breath, but now is a perfect time to start a read if you haven't yet. This is, in my opinion, the quintessential musician AU written by someone with a deep love and understanding of music. Spellbinding.

What ideas are percolating for next year?

@the-literal-kj and I are already working on our Heaven before the Fall story that we've been calling Bitter Things! The other big fic I'd like to get out is a Human AU where Peter Pan collides with Peaky Blinders. And, in January, expect.... wait for it... fluff

That would all change when he meet his best friend, Anathema, for drinks at a local bar with an Open Mic night to meet her new boyfriend. The moment the first singer steps out onto the stage Ezra was entranced. Who is this beautiful man, and why does he look so sad? Crowley was not in a good place and he knew it. He loved his work, especially since it allowed him to do the one thing keeping him sane, sing. But he's been out of the game for a few weeks now. Ever since his boyfriend betrayed him, leaving Crowley feeling broken and all alone. But things start to look up when he sees a beautiful Angel sitting at the bar. When he sees him again the next week he can't help but wonder what he might be like. Could he be the one to help Crowley mend his broken heart?

Crowley is a burned out chef recovering from adrenal fatigue in Tadfield. Aziraphale, a gifted musician with a big, soft heart, happens to be performing one evening at an open mic. Their eyes collide and inevitably, so do their lives, helping each other step into healing, truth and more joy.

My favs bits of 7R! Elena is how they subtly hint at how calculated she is and that her cunning side could be almost as equal as compilation!Rufus in her group & how also the group dynamic often foils her.

Her first scene has her pondering about their orders & what is actually going on.

Elena reitere that point on Mt Corel as well.

In their situation, you need to be clear & share as much intel to your subordinates so they can understand the nature of this mission which Tseng doesn't (if he even knows). & we know Rufus knows the black robes might lead to Sephiroth, which could caught the Turks out of guard & potentially lead them to their death (see what happens to Tseng in the temple).

The scene also immediately establish that Elena thinks they shouldn't follow orders blindly tho it seems she's still willing to do what she thinks Tseng would do in some situations due to her idolization of him.

During her boss fight in the mines, Elena only uses stun grenades

But during the next cinematic, a vicious smile start to appear on her face as she switches her grenade to an explosive one.

It's the only time it happens during the game & the explosion is strong enough to blow off the cliff they were standing on. She was ready to decimate the party there by taking them by surprise. if it wasn't for Red parrying the grenade. It's a good plan that get foiled by the fact Elena isn't aware of Rufus' plans of letting Cloud & Avalanche walk away to find the Promised Land & kill Sephiroth & her lack of awareness towards the way Tseng feels about Aerith.

Next we get GS & Under-saucer chapter. During this, we learn that Cloud, Tifa & Barret are now officially wanted. Dyne then appear in the GS & kill some of Palmer's men.

Elena is seemingly the one who is sent to track him down & likely found his location with the help of Gus' intel (who likely hidden from her that he had captured Tifa & sent Cloud to run in the race so he can get his money)

But instead of capturing the culprit, Elena restrained Dyne & waited for Barret & the rest of Avalanche to show up since she & Rude sent up ambush them with a whole motorized brigade & Palmer's mech,

Elena probably put that plan in place likely in the hopes to make herself look good in front of her superiors by not only capturing Dyne but Avalanche as well. And she's willing to go as far as to jump from a crashing helicopter on a moving buggy to accomplish that goal.

But once again as in the next scene, we see Reeve change the wanted posters portraits under the eyes of Tseng and we discover Rufus decided to let Aerith walk away in the hopes that she will go find the Promised Land while remaining under Shinra surveillance via Cait Sith. Goes to show that once again, her plans diverge from her superiors because she lacks the necessary infos.

As a proof of that, In chapter 12, she state she took the initiative to study what the Promised land is & compliment the whole plan with Aerith

The way she approves about the plan is interesting as well. She talks about it with a lot of enthusiasm, which goes to show that she may be naturally inclined to delve into that type of manoeuvers & calculations. The only character in their group that has been clearly depicted as being the same type until now is Rufus.

Then there's the temple of the ancients. When they discover Avalanche is on the way, Elena immediately bring the idea of ambushing them which is actually smart: They still have troops at their disposition & the advantage to know the terrain better than Avalanche by that point.If they don't take them out now, they might end up in trouble later. (Which is what happened since Reno & Rude end up being outnumbered by monsters & Tseng understimated how ready Elena was to throw down to show herself off, which result in Tseng getting wounded & Elena having to do a sacrificial stand so he can accomplish the mission)

& this is her reaction when Tseng refuses.

Reno, who seemingly had a similar idea as Elena & likely couldn't wait to have a revenge match react as well, which goes to show that it would have been the right course to take but Tseng as his own agenda as he wants to protect Aerith by avoiding her.

Elena can be brash & vicious but it's interesting to note that through the whole game, the devs keep showing us constantly the gears turning in her head & her independance & how some of the mistakes & "bad" decisions she makes could be avoided if her superiors weren't so secretive about things.

It makes me wonder if it might be a set-up for the events of Wutaï, knowing the Turks were there in OG & that there's now this new plot with Glenn's Avalanche cell & Sarruf/Rufus.

With the way they are hiding informations, it's really likely she & maybe even Rude & Reno as well are not aware about Rufus' role in all of this & I wonder if Elena inquisitve & calculated side could have an impact on it & maybe potentially lead him to share his secrets but also connect with his Turks, with the way they emphasize that he is lonely & isolated, which make it easier for Sephiroth to manipulate him. In OG timeline, it always felt to me that the Turks loyalty to Rufus was emotionnally not worked enough & un-earned post- Meteorfall (in particular knowing that the text emphasize who they are in a way a group of friends in all but name because they're seemingly afraid to get rid of that company hierarchy they've always known) so hopefully they are put in the works in 7R.

“y/n,” soobin calls, waving you over. you smile as you rush over to where he’s standing. his hand immediately finds its home around your waist as he tugs you a little closer to him. 

“are we dancing?” you murmur, nervously looking down to check your shoelaces. 

“it’s okay,” soobin smiles. “we’ll dance together.” 

“this is the last segment. good work everyone.” you applaud with the others, grateful to have an excuse to be close to soobin again after weeks of your schedules keeping you apart. “we’re going to play the random dance.”

you let yourself focus on soobin’s arm still resting around your waist as producer nah explains the rules of the game before calling seungkwan over to judge with him. 

three notes chime out to announce the practice song before “blessed-cursed” begins playing. you follow soobin further into the grass field as you dance along to the choreography. you chuckle when kai rushes forwards immediately, taking the stage with ease. 

the music fades out once the first half of the chorus ends. soobin reaches over to grab your hand once you return to your place behind the line, giving you a reassuring squeeze. you smile when he does, letting some of your worries go as you relax and let yourself have fun. 

the rounds continue on smoothly with a similar routine each time: part of the chorus of a song plays, you step out into the field and complete the choreography as well as you can, then you step back where soobin takes your hand into his once again. it’s almost second nature to intertwine your fingers together with a small smile. 

your jaw drops as the song for round seven plays - “hey mama” by guetta. you let out a nervous laugh as you step over the line. beomgyu chuckles as you haphazardly follow yeonjun and soobin as they easily dance along to the song. “you don’t know it?” he asks over the music. 

“i didn’t watch street woman fighter,” you reply. 

sunoo gestures for a microphone with a small wave as producer nah hands it over. “beomgyu, sunghoon-hyung, jake-hyung, and y/n,” he calls. soobin smiles as he reaches over to reassuringly pat your shoulder. with one final raised fist and his whispered “fighting,” you step forwards to join the others in the line. the others slowly join you, including the seventeen members, jiwon, and kazuha. 

“let’s have yeonjun in front.” you chuckle at how flustered he looks as he steps forwards, hiding his face behind his hands in his embarrassment for a second. you poorly follow along to the choreography once again before following after sunghoon and jake when they leave. beomgyu reaches over to pat your shoulder with a small smile as you sit down in between him and jungwon. the grass is uncomfortable - even underneath the fabric of your pants - and pollen irritates your eyes, but you ignore it in favor of watching soobin. 

you watch as the group slowly dwindles down until there are only three people left standing: soobin, eunchae, and soyeon. “is txt going to crumble?” seungkwan teases as taehyun joins you on the other side of the field. yeonjun dances his way over after playful protests from the judges spur him to leave. he smiles as he sits beside you and taehyun in the grass. 

“wow!” you cheer, applauding with the others as “into the new world” ends. 

“what’s yeonjun's identity?” jay asks beside you. 

“something unexpected just happened,” producer nah says. “the man who looked like he’d survive to the end was eliminated!” 

yeonjun chuckles as you help beomgyu hand the microphone over to him. “my dance teacher is gone,” soyeon jokes. 

“we should hear from him,” seungkwan prompts. “we all thought he was gonna win.”

“ah, i had so much fun. i’m happy,” he smiles. 

“he was just a placeholder for soobin, who’s the real ace,” taehyun jokes.

“soobin!” you call, raising your fist. “fighting!” he laughs as he brings a hand up to hide his slightly flushed cheeks before standing back up and returning the gesture. 

“fighting,” he smiles. 

your attention remains glued to soobin as the group continues to dwindle down. yunjin is the next to leave, laughing as she’s welcomed back to the group with open arms. his eyes never leave yours - even when the sun slowly begins to set and the rounds continue to drag on. 

“ah,” seungkwan says. “i think they’re all winners.”

“i’d say they all won,” hoshi agrees. 

“can’t we try one last song?” beomgyu asks. 

“yeah, one more song,” others from the group chime in to agree. 

“okay, here’s what we’re going to do,” producer nah says. “all three of you won the coffee truck. we’ll do one final round to determine who wins the snack truck. the person who shows the most artistic expression will win.” 

“instead of eliminating them, we’ll pick first place,” seungkwan agrees. 

you raise your fist in a fighting gesture towards soobin once again as he laughs. “they haven’t played any of my songs yet,” you murmur. 

“they haven’t played ours either,” kai comforts. 

“the last song. music, cue!” your eyes widen when the chorus of the next song plays - your most recent comeback. soobin laughs as he rushes forwards, dancing to the beat with ease. the crowd around you erupts with cheers as his smile grows. he dances effortlessly while you hide your face behind your hands in embarrassment. 

“this is y/n’s song?” you can vaguely hear hoshi ask. beside him, minghao nods.  

niki laughs as he watches. “he dances exactly like y/n.”

“soobin-hyung watches their fancams all the time,” taehyun laughs. 

“it’s true!” beomgyu smiles. “he’s always talking about y/n and watching their content.” 

“we’re friends!” you defend. “he’s being supportive.” 

the round ends when the chorus finishes. soobin smiles at you from across the field as he holds the ending pose - the same one that you do during promotional performances. 

you join the others in applauding for them as you watch soobin bow to eunchae and soyeon. they do the same as they cheer for each other before seungkwan takes the microphone once again. “that was beyond respect. i’m in awe. however, i think the killing part determined the winner.” he pauses for dramatic effect before continuing. “congratulations… choi soobin of txt!” 

you can’t help your bright smile as you stand up. soobin smiles as he rushes over to you, wrapping his arms around your waist. you’re quick to reciprocate; clinging to him as you celebrate. he presses a kiss against your forehead when he sets you back down on the ground, bringing a hand up to cup your cheek. “congratulations love,” you smile. 

“i couldn’t have done it without you,” soobin whispers. his arm remains tightly around your waist as the rest of the txt boys join you. kai keeps you tightly in their group hug as you jump around in your excitement.

the girls performed midas touch, earning cheers from the fans of other groups which caused a small pint of hope for the girls as they smiled at each other, a memorable moment caught on camera as they set themselves for their next performance, cool with you.

fans and other knetz praised the styling for the debut showcase, labeling their all-time favs for lyla's and the matching leader, adora's .

after their performances, the groups music video for their title track 'midas touch' as well as the audios to 'cool with you' and 'love dive' reached up from 1M , 235k, and 150k to 12M, 529k, and 444k respectively in the span of 1 month.

I got bored over the summer and decided to download pjsekai again (there's a story behind that but it's too long.) Before this, I knew like 3 things about it: 1. Its a rhythm game, 2. I don't know if I would like his personality though...he is said to be arrogant, so I hope he is arrogant in a funny way like Yoritomo and not an arrogant silent type which I don't really enjoy. I generally don't enjoy silent types you only gives answer through stares. But looks-wise he's at top 3.

I won't sugar coat it. I don't like this guy. He looks nice (design-wise), but his personality type is girls. Even his bio tells that he had hook-ups with girls before his debut. That's not a bad thing, I just hope he doesn't end up like a cringy flirt who stares at the MC from head to toe like....you know what I mean, right? He's the flirty male lead, but I hope they give him a personality outside that like they did for Arthur and Sueharu.

There always needs to be body builder in the cast, same as there needs to be a flirty male character. I don't really care about him that much....but I'll acknowledge his presence...I guess. You my dear sir, you're an angel! Hugh has to be my fav character because I'm so attracted to his beauty. From his bio, he looks to be like Ieyasu, very silent and always to himself, but he is also expressionless like Yoshitsune. He doesn't sound like a tsundere, but....IDK, I really like him! I did say that I don't like characters who reply with only stares, but he does feel warm like Yoshitsune.

This guy looks to be one of those characters who looks very friendly from outside, but inside is full of shit! Full of madness! Crazy madness. That's all I can say about him. I'm kinda interested.

HITAKI

Looks like a prince but inside is full of shit. I can feel Alphonse when he talks (ofc they both have the same va). He is one of those prince characters who will smile like this (⌒‿⌒) infront of his fans but when he's with MC, he is gonna tie her up, gag her and spank her 50 times for speaking to other men. I like him and he is at top 4 for now just for his looks.

NAGI

He's the maknae of the 2nd group. He looks to be the purest and innocent soul out the this crazy pool of male leads. I think I'll enjoy his presence.

Sakura Eito (I still have doubts about his name)

This guy......Hohoho...if you know me, I like my blonde hair blue eyes male leads. So you know this guy is gonna be my fav (unless his personality is boring) but dude...who cares about the male leads, when their producer and President of their company looks like this...But Hugh is still my fav. You are my 2nd fav.

MC - Rina Kawanaga

I have nothing to say about her design. Looks like a generic MC design so I hope her personality is interesting. Cybird how about hiring me just to create interesting looking MC. I have so many ideas for MCs for each ikemen games! It's not that difficult to create MCs with different personalities! What do you say? How about I create some fun MCs for you!? You don't have to pay me!!

Now these are just my initial impressions and will likely change once I start playing the game! So there is no need to be offended!

And to answer your question! It is a very necessary thing for the current ENHYPEN dynamic to do!

Besides Ri-ki and Jungwon, who genuinely interact with the girls because they want to, the others are prone to interacting with the girls for the sake of their image but it’s way less than how the boys interact with each other.

The boys still are gentlemen, and would shield the girls if necessary, but they also barely invite the girls to anything off camera, be it game night or just a dinner as a group, the girls have their own thing and the boys do.

On the other hand, Aohi and Xiulin are much more friendly towards the boys, they understand that they might pose as a threat to the boys and aren’t as … avoidant or reserved towards them. That’s why they quickly got along with Ri-ki and Jungwon because the boys showed kindness and willingness to accept them, and so they did too!

Of course, their staff would prefer if all of the members actually got along on and off camera but then again, they can’t force them in a room to cooperate (ahem sunoo ahem, wink wink nudge nudge).

OH THIS IS GOOD

1. mmj of course! i love them so much because their personalities are so fun and vibrant and i think their relationships are really sweet :3 plus their designs are all so cute. i actually kept seeing mnhr art so theyre why i ended up checking them out and then shizuku was really funny to me so i stayed and i just love them all so much now 🤞 plus their voices are so nice. shizuku’s especially HER COVER OF MILK CROWN ON SONECHKA😭💜 so good. haruka’s of shoujo rei? life-changing. newly edgy idols is also such a cute debut song AND happy halloween is such a good cover that it’s perfect to listen to year-round. like what’s not to love about that. and also, since i was previously into vocaloid before playing pjsk, i knew a lot of songs and mmj sings a lot of the ones that i really loved already!!!! so it was basically predetermined that i’d love their music i guess! omg i could say so much more about them but i have to talk about other groups so ill be quiet about them now LOL

2. leo/need !!! saki is really cute and shiho looked like a masc lesbian to me i’m ngl that’s literally why i tuned in. then i realized shiho is shizuku’s younger sister so i looked into them even more LOL their music is definitely my thing, i love rock and the kinds of vocaloid they sing so i was drawn to that for sure. their designs are really pleasing too and as i’ve read more of their stories, i find their dynamics and general story really interesting too! they all have such strong personalities that go well together so it makes for a very entertaining story. it’s kinda hard not to love them

3. wonderlands x showtime 🙂‍↕️ they are SOOO FUNNY i absolutely get why theyre so popular. emu is literally so funny i love her so much. and tsukasa is also really funny but he’s really caring too and his relationships with others despite his shortcomings are so sweet. him and saki are so compelling to me like wow… the tenmas 🙁💝… also nene is rlly cute idk i don’t have much to say on that but i have always found her design so cute and her voice is like GORGEOUS can we talk about that. nene’s voice is so BEAUTIFUL… and rui also has a really pleasing voice!!!! i don’t have many thoughts on him to be honest but he’s cool ^^ since theyre so entertaining and light-hearted yet maintain interesting drama, it’s fun to read their stories!! plus when im in an upbeat mood their songs are perfect to play sooo LOL theyre just awesome

4. nightcord! they were my first group and i do still love them and find them incredibly compelling and special but i dont pay attention to them very much. i appreciate them a lot but i really dont have much to say. although they do sing a lot of the vocaloid songs that i used to love a couple years ago so i play their songs a LOT like definitely the most out of everyone else’s. i think its kind of basic but mizuki might be my fav. mafuyu used to be my fav though!

5. vbs 😭 i hate akito so much. vbs used to be one of my fav groups but akito is such a dozen and a jerk and a terrible brother and person that it knocked the whole group to last place. i’m so sorry anhn i love you sooo much but GODDAMN!!!! akito sucks. toya is okay though, he doesn’t interest me a lot but he’s got a good personality. an is so cute and kohane is too i’m so glad that all of mmj are like besties with those two because i can still see them a lot without reading vbs stuff 🙏🙏🙏 i also have to say vbs doesn’t appeal to me much music wise so that’s another factor as to why theyre not one of my favs anymore

i’m not ranking the virtual singers bc theyre not quite a group but i love them and theyre soo cool. i think my fav designs for all of them might be n25’s! and my fav vocaloid isn’t in the game but i love gumi :)
