rick sanchez is not a stay-at-home dad to me idk why he's just not like you'd have to convince me because he's just not to me he's a come-home-late-and-miss-bedtime-and-feel-really-bad-about-it-and-wake-beth-up-in-the-middle-of-the-night-to-stargaze-as-an-apology dad to me like a show-up-at-the-end-of-beth's-recital-and-make-a-big scene-that-interrupts-the-show-with-a-loud-noise-but-smile-softly-and-apologetically-at-beth-on-stage-with-a-little-wave-as-her-eyes-light-up-that-he-came dad to me
#rick and morty#rick sanchez#beth sanchez#headcanon#idk i know it's a popular hc but it doesn't work for me#i don't believe that beth has any stay-at-home parents in the traditional sense#like they both work and they keep pictures of her on their person and don't shut up about her to other people#but forget to go to a parent teacher conference and miss her birthday because of work and decide that they need a vacay to make it up

#man i dont even have the energy to be mad. im just tired#like. dont u love it when your parents exhibit symptoms of ADHD and your sibling is diagnosed with a learning disability#and instead of thinking oh shit what if the other one has smth too. they subject you to The Horrors#i cant bring myself to hate my parents. but im tired of feeling obligated to defend them when the thing they think is working#isnt actually working and ive just found other ways to cope to avoid any sort of conflict. like lying and stealing. lol#if someone took me aside and said 'hey so your brain doesnt make as much dopamine as usual and its not a bad thing it just means you#need external stimulation and reward system to function and youre not actually secretly fucked up or lazy' as a kid#im pretty sure i wouldnt be here rn with half the problems i already have. unfortunately getting diagnosed late means u dont have a teacher#to back you up at a parent teacher conference that forces your parents to take this shit seriously instead of ignoring it hoping itll#go away on its own. but hey what do i know i have squirrel ipad baby disease. what do i know about my own symptoms#AND. AND i think im allowd to be mad bc ive been doing my own research on this for years before and after diagnosis#theyve been putting me thru the WORST parenting techniques on earth. which they could have corrected at anytime but they were#comfortable thinking they were doing it right and didnt bother to check if they were or werent fucking up their kid in the long run#and refusing to acknowledge it. i just!! they just decided one day hey lets make babies!! and just looked at books on how to make#a human being survive as long as possible!!! what the fuck!!!!#im sorry for putting this on ppls dashes but i am. so tired. of bottling this up. and im not looking for sympathy or anything i just need#to scream and clench my fists to SOMEONE about it because theyre not gonna take this well up the ass. sigh#yapping#vent

thinking about middle aged single dad Kiyoomi with fine silver streaks in his black curls and dark circles under his eyes and his shirt crumpled, dirty glasses pushed up into his hair as he rubs the bridge of his nose because his daughter ate glitter glue at 11pm and got a tummy ache now and he's tempted to just eat some glitter glue as well
#my brain sighing in relief now that i got both Soft Launch and Replica out of my system for now#like a fever that's going down jfc#can finally focus on something that i'll 100% never write but enjoy thinking about lol#anyway single dad Omi has been on my mind ever since i saw some fanart the other day and UGH#i love him sm pls#you meet him at a parent-teacher conference and he asks if he can use his assigned 20 minutes for a quick nap#lale.txt

Love it when people infodump to me. Maybe listening to infodumps is my love language
#get you a partner who loves trains and political systems and urban planning#and a kid who loves obscure Minecraft lore and splatoon 2#and then maybe you too will have the joy of a teacher who tells you at parent teacher conferences#that everyone who talks to your kid learns more about trains in 20 minutes than in the previous rest of their life

Galladrabbles: Let Me (Teacher's Edition)
Parent-Teacher Conference @galladrabbles series continues! TY @ardent-fox, your prompt really helped Mickey flirt this week!
previous chapter / the whole story
-✏️-📓-✏️-📓-
Somehow Mickey looks even better than Ian remembers.
His eyes intently follow as Mickey heads to the bar to get their drinks. His fingers drum out a rhythm nervously against the old wooden table.
By the time Mickey sets two Old Styles down, he’s run through multiple scenarios in his head about how this night might go.
His favorite includes them flirting for hours, sharing a smoke, then boxing Mickey in against the brick wall outside, getting his hands down….
“You zonin’ out on me already Gallagher? Don’t let me interrupt.”
“Uh-no just thinking… I’m really happy we met up.”
#not zoning out all just thinking about your pants mickey!#we like that scenario too ian#galladrabbles#parent teacher conference au#math teacher mickey

and wheel i usually watch on mute anyway because these people are way too peppy for my tastes. so no harm done there.
#i'm not bad at wheel of fortune as you might expect from someone who does a lot of crosswords#but i could never be on wheel. because you know the number one requirement for a wheel contestant is like. happy energy. lol#the only B i ever got in high school was in choir. at parent-teacher conferences the choir director told my mom#'she doesn't smile when she sings' and my mom was like 'yeah she's incapable of smiling if she's not actually happy'#it's a good thing to know about yourself lol#i have realistic expectations for my ability to compete on wheel of fortune. that ability is: zero

like. everything is fine and everything is good, truly and also just the smallest part of my soul is just [ strangled, small, disconsolate sob ]
#like. is there love and ease and joy and confidence and peace in my future? is there a time where things become clear#and stop hurting#and that low-grade stupid fuzzy background anxiety about everything#just recedes?#is there?#I am being so dramatic but it’s because I need to eat and go to bed and also pray 😭#and it has been a long day#and I am still technically in parent teacher conferences#Edit: it is later and I am feeling better and the above melodramatic questions are just a reflection of my exhausted state#but also of the human condition lol#anyway thank you for listening

Day Thirty-One
Today our students had an early dismissal and we had a late evening. This is a thing we do twice a year: we stay until 5:30, which counts as a "day" in our legally required 187 days, and we use that time for parent-teacher conferences. I think it's a good use of the time because it allows parents to speak specifically about their children as opposed to just hearing a general overview of our courses during an open house (and it keeps us from doing upaid labor).
Now, I always dress presentably at work, but there's a black and white dress I have that's super cute when paired with black tights and heels, and it makes me look like an adult (longtime readers know I look much younger than I actually am). A bunch of the ninth grade girls complimented it, which was a nice little self-esteem boost.
The ninth grade classes were only about half an hour long today, but that was the a perfect amount of time for students to revise and submit their culture projects. And, yes, I made today the due date because I figured that it would be the perfect amount of time, and that I could get all my grading done in between conferences. Which I did.
I'm feeling pretty proud of my planning skills.
In APGOV, students read an article on cooperative federalism, and then we discussed how it works in practice. I had them find out about our school district's use of ESSER grants because that's an obvious, applicable example for them. Then, to grab an example that's not so close to home but very present in the news, we talked about disaster relief- and, more specifically, FEMA's response to hurricanes Helene and Milton. More on that next class.
My conference schedule was nearly full, but some major traffic mid-afternoon caused some parents to miss their scheduled times. We adjusted and made it work, though!
I was pleasantly surprised that so many of the APGOV parents came to talk, especially when they told me how much their kids like the course. Sometimes, that's obvious, but some of them are very hard to read! I think my favorite conferences, though, were with ninth grade parents who'd been worried about the transition to high school, but learned that their children are excelling. They're so happy and relieved, and it's awesome to deliver good news. But, for parents whose children are having a tough time with that transition, I got to give some advice and talk strategies that will hopefully get them on the right track, and that's also a really positive and productive way to spend my time.
So, all in all, it was a great afternoon/evening. I am quite glad to be home and relax, though! Whew!

I feel like Darlin isn't the only hot parent at parent teacher conferences. Sam is handsome as hell and ages like fine wine and I will die on that hill.
Random student : So how old's your dad?
Micah : TO OLD FOR YOU AND HE'S MARRIED
Micah : STAY AWAY FROM MY PARENTS GUYS
Oh, trust me, I’m very well aware that Darlin’s not the only hot parent 😆 Although I’m not sure “ages like fine wine” can apply to Sam? Because he doesn’t age? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ But either way, yes Sam is very much the hot parent too
But Micah is far more inclined to laugh at a random student asking about her hot parents. For various reasons. One being that her dad is in fact very old (from a teenager’s perspective lol) and uses “back in my day” all the time.
Random Student: So how old’s your dad?
Micah:
I see exactly where you’re coming from and you are correct
#I think Darlin’ was making the joke to imply that Darlin is often the one Attending parent teacher conference#when I was in school the sun was always up when PTCs came around#other reasons Micah would laugh at students asking about her hot parents include#they’re both endlessly devoted to one another and both very grumpy and Micah knows it#Pups AU#answered

Also apparently my fucking MANAGER and assistant manager have been going behind my back (their favorite thing) and telling all of my parents that their kids are terribly behaved and have social/emotional issues and never listen and throw things at other kids, etc.
And it's like. Yeah, they do ignore me or outright tell me no when I tell them to do things. If they complied every time I asked them to do something I would report their family to CPS. And they throw toys or have emotional outbursts bc they're 2 years old and not good at talking yet. I think they're just so used to the preschool (3-5 year old) classrooms and my kids look to be almost the same size, so they treat them like they're the same age. But a 4-year-old is twice the age of a kid in my classroom, so of course they're going to act differently. Jesus.
#ranntics#I've been doing parent-teacher conferences for the past two weeks#and all of the parents have been telling me my mangaer told them their kid has major issues#and every time I've been like ''....no? Just a normal 2-year-old''#why can't they talk to me about anything before going to the parents..... why can't they talk to me about anything period.
