HI YES HELLO I’M ALIVE and the yapping is back (it never left)!!

Just when the summer bbq is concluding. 🥹

Uhh looking back at this post, it’s highkey a sako character analysis post in disguise. Spoilers Ahead for Wind Breaker Chapters 160 & 161! (as promised with doodles)

This last panel with everyone toasting to each other feels like the end to the Summer BBQ event, at least to me. *shakes and wails off into the corner*

So many friendships being strengthened, healing/healed and being made in this one event is making my heart do somersaults. GAHHH!! I would’ve loved if we stayed in this wholesome moment a little longer if it is the last but oh well at least these recent two chapters have given me two things to brainrot about for a while. 🤧

Sako Kota and his relationships

Hooray!! We finally get to see the (much needed) closure of HiraSako’s *gestures wildly* everything, in that moment my spirit synced up with Inugami. 

I’m sure it doesn’t take a genius to point out Sako had an unhealthy dependency towards Hiragi from when they were kids up ‘til the Shishitoren arc. On the surface level, Sako’s reasons for getting back at him may seem very immature and they are but I also see where it stemmed from. Hiragi was essentially the first to take a chance on him when he was at his lowest and gave him a chance to better himself.   Hiragi to him was the pinnacle of strength and security, his guiding light (Chapter 15). He likely thought that even when things change, he would always be by his side because with him, he’s safe—with him, he’s strong. Stronger than he was before, someone who wouldn’t let bullies trample over him.

So when the latter told him he was following Ume and that he should follow his own path, which is normally very inspiring, Sako took it as abandonment. In his eyes, his pillar of strength was no longer holding up the weight of his (Hiragi’s) own roof but rather someone else’s (Umemiya’s’) and he was left in the ruins (dramatic ass analogy I know but it works).

“If Hiragi had been the source of his strength, then if he beats Hiragi that means he’s reclaiming that strength as his own right?” was what probably went through his head when he started picking fights and joined Shishitoren.

His reliance on Hiragi was still there but now it was twisted and he likely started hating himself for having been content with remaining a follower. If you asked my personal thoughts about this, I would say it was unfair. Not just for Hiragi bearing the weight of his unreasonable expectations, but also for Sako himself whose helplessness as a child manifested into the ugly beast that is emotional dependency. 

Deep down, he was still the same hurt child who couldn’t fight back against his bullies and needed someone to support him. When that support came and fell through, he thought defeating Hiragi was his way of proving to himself that he can stand on his own without relying on others. The point when things finally climaxed (aka the Hiragi vs Sako fight) was the moment when Sako had begun letting go of his heart demons. Turns out he just needed to have a talk or two with Hiragi. Communication and respect are the keys to any healthy relationship after all, even if said communication is thru fists but they are delinquents so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. 

With that tangent on Sako’s previous ideologies out of the way, another thing I noticed in his official apology was that he called Inugami “kohai” and also like other things he said, but mainly that part. Maybe I’m reading into it or im late to the party, but me thinks he was somewhat of recluse in Shishitoren. Like sure, he wouldn’t be outright hostile but he wouldn’t be actively making friends either.

When Inugami first appeared and was very comfortable talking to him, it made me think “ah this is Sako’s new bestie when he came to Shishitoren, it’s good someone was there for him while he was gunning for Hiragi”.  But with this new context, in my head it makes sense if he only joined because he wanted revenge so he likely wouldn’t have reached out if he was so fixated on his goals. And with the whole uh pre-Shishitoren arc Choji and Togame thing going around, yeah I wouldn’t also be eager to make be friendly with them too. But somewhere along the way he got attached to them, he just didn’t realized it at the time.

After Bofurin bulldozes in with their life changing fists and kicks, Sako leaving wouldn’t have been a hard decision for him to make since (1) he’s got presumably no friends and (2) he wants to wallow in self pity alone for a good long while. Then comes crashing in sweet boy Inugami and honestly? I don’t blame Sako for spilling his entire backstory on the guy. I mean look at his face!! 

He’s Sako’s emotional support dog. 

Anyways, in my heart I’d like to believe Inugami was the second person to reach out to him. Offering him another chance to lean on support and start anew on learning to be okay with accepting a hand or two but not to the extreme. Trusting others and letting people in again, but also learning to trust in himself too.

And so far, things are going pretty well for him. Found family within Shishitoren, got someone who’s unafraid to keep him in check and repaired his relationship with Hiragi & his other childhood friends! Throwing all the confetti and sweets for him <3

HOO-WEE THAT WAS SO FUCKING LONG 😭😭 

I wanted to add more to this latter half of this discussion but the Sako-brainrot took over, so i’ll just briefly cover my thoughts on Sakura’s progress.

Two words: SAKURA’S GROWTH! 

HE IS BLOOMING IN THE SUMMER HEAT OF JULY, HE’S RADIANT AND HIS SKINS GLOWING AS HE SMILES, IM SMOTHERING HIM IN A PILE OF FLOWER BOUQUETS -*ahem*

Sakura really has come a really long way from the person he was 4 months ago and it’s a real tear-jerker. Even if he didn’t say it to their faces directly, he called his class his friends and he hangs out with the others (their allies) on his own whenever he has the time. Sakura’s getting comfortable with all of them and I cannot believe that after 160+ chapters this is the first canonical mention of the “stray cat” analogy. His first year and he already won the hearts of so many people, deserved really 🙌. 

Honorable mentions:

The Kanuma and Suo reunion I’ve been waiting for 👏👏. But it’s not enough,, so I’m gonna post a doodle of their mini interaction to satisfy my craving for enemies to friends and/or lovers suonuma 🏃🏃

!!Togame and Choji apologizing to Kaji!! I almost forgot Choji completely trashed him and other Furin students on his way to the school.

Zushi has a crush.

On his best friend's brother, someone who was also his friend when they were younger…

It’s confusing. Learning Nen was much easier somehow…

He couldn’t ask master; it was much too embarrassing… and besides, he'd probably bring up some statistic that would make all of Zushi’s self-confidence plummet. He couldn’t ask master’s master; she was scary… Alluka is his best friend! Which makes it all the worse! But she had just teased him and told him probably way more info than Killua himself would ever want anyone to know… so now he feels a little guilty.

But that sad look in those deep blue eyes of his… it’s like an ocean of sadness, and Zushi wants to see a smile against those pretty features like when they were younger…

But he’s no good. He doesn’t know what to say or do… he’s definitely not Alluka, who was the only person who could bring her brother out of a melancholy state, and he’s not Gon…

Zushi doesn’t even know what happened… A-and he has no right to pry!

But he can’t think of what to do, so he’s sulking at the punch table, fiddling around with a glass in his hands.

Killua hadn’t danced with a single person tonight… s-so maybe!

Oh, come on… who’s he kidding… it took him years to conquer Heaven’s Arena; something like this seems…

Zushi sighs out loud vehemently, placing the drink down and playing with his champagne-colored bowtie, bright against the pure white of his suit.

He doesn’t know how to dance…

He’ll just stay glued here, in this spot, until the party is over, he decides; until he sees Killua slowly move away from the edge of the balcony, clearly intending to leave.

H-he’s got this!

HE DOESN’T HAVE THIS!

He’s sweating buckets to the point he thinks his shoes must be flooding.

“O-OSU!”

He tugs at the edge of his tux, swallowing thickly.

It’s not hard to sweat just in the presence of Killua. He’s like from another dimension. The way the light pink dress he wears flows down, like a cascade of waves, highlighting his petite frame, his slender shoulders, the sleeves draping past them. His lips are the same complimentary pink, blushing his skin in spots as well.

Killua stops fiddling with his silver locks, his somber expression twisting for a second, something akin to joy, as he looks back.

“Osu. It’s been a while… you’ve gotten strong, huh?”

There’s a small catlike grin on his face for a moment.

S-strong? Oh, right!

Zushi steps forward, standing next to Killua, rigid as a board.

“Osu! B-but I’m still nothing compared to you two!”

Wrong move.

Killua’s expression crumbles so fast, Zushi wishes he could stuff the words back in his mouth. Killua physically recoils and draws closer to himself, wrapping his arms around his stomach.

“I can’t speak for Gon… but you’re definitely stronger than me now… you train with Alluka, right? She’s gotten strong too. She can take care of herself… so I don’t really train anymore. I don’t like fighting…”

It had always been a necessity, not fun. There was only a short time it was fun for Killua…

Tears fall hot on his cheeks before he can stop them, and he wipes them away, smiling bitterly. He wants to stop them. But they don’t…

Killua dips to the floor, trying to hide, sniffing.

Oh no.

Zushi wants to disappear. His heart aches, and he looks around desperately.

Alluka!

He can’t help Killua… he wants to. But what can he do…?

Confidence! Master’s master said it is the most important thing!

He leans over slowly, gently placing a hand on Killua’s shoulder.

“Killua?”

Killua looks up, tears still pooling in his eyes, and Zushi fumbles in his pocket, pulling something out and holding it outward for Killua.

Except it’s not a handkerchief. It’s his patchwork coin purse, and nervously he draws it back, fumbling to tug out the small piece of fabric and handing it to Killua.

“U-Um! Killua-san! S-someone as pretty as you shouldn’t cry!”

Zushi hears a small gasp out of Killua’s lips, and the red around his nose turns an even deeper hue, and Zushi isn’t sure whose face is more red, feeling his own on fire, still awkwardly holding the handkerchief out, and you can hear a pin drop.

Killua gently takes the handkerchief from Zushi’s hand, his small and slender fingers brushing against Zushi’s own, and his heart swells again, and Zushi swallows, trying to keep his heart from leaving. Killua’s pretty… and cute…

Killua says he doesn’t fight anymore, but Zushi knows Killua is still strong, but he can’t help but feel the urge rise in his chest to protect him.

“U-uh! I know you don’t fight anymore, b-but! If you want to, I mean! I’d really like if you came and watched a match of mine, osu!”

“Eh?”

Killua says it so softly he almost doesn’t hear it, and his head feels like it’s swirling as he looks up; Killua gently wipes under his nose using the handkerchief before placing it in his lap. His face is still cutely red, and he looks to the side, brushing a strand of hair behind his ear.

“W-well Alluka has a match… that-that day, b-but! I guess I could see how strong you’ve gotten…”

Killua looks over, smiling softly, adding.

“Osu!”

If you're in the RainCode community you can target anyone, but as you know, my main targets are Yuma and Makoto. If they're also your faves and who you decide to use, that will make me extra happy!

Some tips for anyone new to drawing a sick day scenario art. A few things that make it look convincing are the following:

Pajamas or Loungewear

Messy Bed Hair

Fever flushed face w sweat or at least a red nose

Tired Eye bags

Shivery body

Ice Pack or a Compress on the head

Thermometer sticking from their mouth

LOTS OF BLANKETS

Tissues or medicine surrounding them

Tea or Soup (or both)

Those are just to name some from the top of my head. If you'd like some pointers on how to make a character look ill, check out my Fever Coloring Guide. This is for digital artists but traditional artists can try it too!

You can add injury or angst to the scene but I'd like illness to be the main focus of it.

The scene can be anything you want to, it can be fluffy and wholesome (with a caretaker) it can be angsty, or it can be silly. Its all up to you! Do it for the sake of fluff! Caretaking scenes are the best for any kind of relationship >w<

Either way, have fun with it!! I look forward to see what people make if they decide to give it a try! It doesn't even have to be a full on picture! Doodles and sketches are fine too! Just show me something >w<

I always think about how rarely Dabi was told he was loved as a child, and it makes me so sad. I feel like when it comes to his s/o he shows love through his actions rather than words.

I imagine he does small gestures to say “I love you” like squeezing your hand or kissing your wrist. And sometimes I wonder how he would say the first “I love you” and what would trigger him to say it.

You write fluffy Dabi so well and I’m just curious about your take on him saying Ily for the first time and in general!!

I been having a rough week and reading your blog has def cheered me up. I love your writing so much((: I rarely send asks so I apologize if anything I said was weird/awkward. Have a great day/night!

anon, the ask you just sent me is so endearing and wholesome... actually, there aren’t enough words to describe how happy i happy to hear that my writings could cheer you up during a rough time. it really makes me feel so proud of myself not only as a writer, but as a person too 🤧🙏🏻💜

as for dabi and the word ‘i love you’, i think you got a point there. he was never told by anyone these three special words, nor was he ever shown how to give love or show affection towards others, the person who was supposed to guide him was too busy ignoring him and his feelings, diminishing them and think only about his egotistical self.

which is also the reason why dabi doesn’t know when is the ‘right’ time to tell these kind of words, his father never said them to his mother after all.

the first time you told him “i love you...”, it was while sitting on a bench by sea at night, only the sound of the waves and the salty smell of the water in the air as you two were gazing at the starry sky.

dabi froze on spot for a few seconds blinking, then he turned your way completely dumbfounded batting his eyes some more stunned “wha–? where did this come from?”, he blurted out turning forward lifting an hand to rest the back of his hand on his burning cheek, his heartbeat growing erratic while a storm of butterfly invaded his stomach in a matter of seconds.

the power you hold on him is crazy.

you giggled hugging his arm, nuzzling happily against it with a peaceful expression on your face, his eyes glacing at you from the corner a shiver running down his back as you looked up at him with a smile filled with so much love he felt his cheeks heat up again, not knowing if it was okay for someone like him to feel that happy “i just felt like saying it.”, you admitted leaning toward his face to give him a quick peck on the cheek, chuckling when you saw some smoke arising from his body “‘s that so?” “yup!”, at your immediate response he stumbled surprised by all that confidence and sincerity, pulling his heart’s strings so easily, making him completely weak and no match for you.

since then you kept telling him “i love you!” at any given moment, dabi doesn’t know how you do it and even make it seem so natural, it was just so mind-blowing to him who replied everytime with a simple “me too”, not knowing how to say it back with so much confidence without making it seem forced, because of this he feel so guilty towards you honestly, it’s just that... he doesn’t want to make you think he’s not sincere and by extension hurt you, that would be the worst.

but when dabi once came back home from a mission that got him wounded and you were tending to them with so much care, worry and such a soft touch, his heart felt like it would burst inside his ribcage when your pretty eyes locked with his turquoise ones. inside his throat it felt like there was something pressing in it that got his voice stuck there, he swallowed thickly a few more times when your palms rested on his cheek caressing it gently with your thumb and just like that an “i love you...”, poured past dabi’s lips letting both of you shocked, staring at each others with wide eyes, none of you believing your ears. after a few seconds his expression softened “i love you.”, he repeated with a sweet tone that you’ve never heard from him and all that love dripping from his eyes, it was unbelievable.

your heart was overflowing with so much happiness and relief, that tears started streaming down your cheeks under his baffled gaze, before he cupped your cheeks wiping them with his thumbs “tears of joy i hope.”, dabi joked making you laugh briefly before nodding energically in reply.

to clarify, your relief wasn’t because you didn’t believe he loved you, the villain has shown it enough with actions and that has always been enough for you, but hearing those three precious words come from his lips felt like he had finally accepted that he is indeed loved and has fully got back to him a feeling that he had lost long time ago; the fact that the reason dabi got it back is thanks to you, just made your happiness even bigger.

“love you too!”, you finally said back grabbing onto his wrists sobbing, while he snorted looking at you exasperated but also with a tenderness that was reserved to you only, no one else.

dabi now understands why, the first time you told him that special word, you said that you just felt like saying it and the beautiful smile you gave him after bawling your eyes out, just gave the villain even more reasons to say it.

As Kenji said that, Tetchô immediately got into position, preparing to catch the boy once he jumped. It went as smoothly as if they had rehearsed beforehand, which obviously hadn’t happened, but the momentum sent them both to the ground; specifically having Tetchô sitting down on the floor and holding Kenji in almost the same way one would cradle a baby.

Then, Kenji started laughing.

“Honestly, that was so fun I kinda wanna try again!” While speaking, he got back up in a flawless jump and held out a hand for Tetchô to take, offering a help he may not need but could want. Which he did.

“Yeah, it’d be nice.” A brief smile made an appearance in the soldier’s face, though after a second it was gone again.

It would be, yes, but… Was it really the moment to be thinking about fun stunts to try and pull off, when there was so much going on and none of them had any idea of where their respective teams had gone? When he had gone away to search for Jôno and hadn’t even found him yet?

“Hey.” Kenji seemed to practically read his mind, or maybe not even Tetchô was difficult to read in a moment like that. Point was, the boy squeezed his hand a little even after he was back on his feet again too, before completely letting go. “I know this is serious, but you can still smile. You’re allowed to enjoy things. Besides, we’re gonna find everyone and then everything’s gonna be fine, so you don’t have to feel guilty about having some fine in the meantime, okay?”

“Thanks, Kenji-kun.” It may be easier said than done, but Tetchô didn’t doubt Kenji already knew that. And anyway, those words helped.

Besides, time would prove him right, even if things had to go even worse before the calm came back.

Toya is kind of new to the concept, but he picks up being a caregiver pretty easily!

Whenever he notices you're about to regress, he kind of panics, but he tries to ask you what you want to do about it

He's definitely the type to plan out a kit just for you, filling it with everything you mention you like when regressed

Unless you're the type of little who cannot stay still, he likes to sit with you and read you a bunch of stories

of course, he'd have to had come back from his mission with tsukasa and kohaku, or not have been on that mission at all, but putting those factors aside!

i think since no one can really tell what he's thinking most of the time, the kingdom would just remain doubtful and skeptical of his loyalty—though they would still rely on him and keep hoping he'll do the right thing. while i find his redemptions wonderful, they aren't enough to make them all 100% assured that he'll never betray them if he gets the chance.

and being the first to revive is Literally his biggest chance to do that. as someone who dedicated his life to martial arts, he might not be that good with chemicals—would probably take some time to figure out how to make nitric acid and fail at getting the exact ratio for a while, but i believe he is smart enough to be successful after just a few weeks.

food would be no problem to him at all. he might not even eat whatever preserved food the kingdom has left to save it for whoever he'll be reviving. surviving on his own would be a breeze.

betraying them would definitely cross his mind, but he has a conscience. and i believe he's still capable of feeling happy, deep down, whenever the kingdom relies on him (at least, that's how i see it in the treasure island arc!). i want to see him contemplate only for a moment before he just sighs and fully gives up on his ideal world, because memories of the others trusting him and accepting him as one of their own would keep replaying in his head—and he would hate to admit it, but he wants to keep his relationship with the kingdom just the way it is, because he's never had friends quite like them before.

i want to see him revive senkuu first, and i want to see senkuu be surprised when he tells him he'll focus on hunting and doing whatever needs physical labor, and tell senkuu to focus on making revival fluids for whoever needs to be revived next. because if hyoga already knew how to make the revival fluid on his own and wanted to betray them, he wouldn't have revived senkuu first—if at all, let alone give him the freedom to choose who to revive.

their few weeks alone together would be pretty quiet, in a good way, with senkuu doing 80% of the talking while hyoga mostly listens to him info dump about anything and everything. senkuu can't help it because it's the kind of company senkuu must have also wanted when he revived by himself before, because being alone in the dark for a long time and still having no one to talk to right after waking up sucked. but here hyoga was, being the perfect listener while also being the most dependable person senkuu could ever ask for while others were still stone. i just think senkuu would be visibly thrilled with this outcome.
