Of kinghts, Heroes, and Gallants Working with my very good friends Anthony Andrews and Ian Mckellen in The Scarlet Pimpernel. It was such a joy working with Anthony, he had also played Ivanhoe and I had told Lysette that I'd love to meet him, at the same time he had seen a few of my films and wanted to work with me, Lysette felt bad because she on the one hand could put us together, on the other she couldn't be in the film do to other commitments, but she loved the idea of watching us work together so she pulled some strings, next time we are gonna throw her in the film commitments or not. I had so much fun fencing Ian that I wish I could go back and keep fencing him. The two of them brought my skill up to par so I could fence in "The Vorpal Blade" TotU #ChristopherStewart #ShaneBriant #AlexHydeWhite #JonathanBrandis #actorslife #backstageforlife #anthonyandrews #ianmckellen #thescarletpimpernel #fantasy #historicalfilms #classics #renaissance #Frenchrevolution #👑#🎭 https://www.instagram.com/p/ClfBrdVtkNO/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

#MiniatureMonday
The flip book of the French Revolution / Edward Rayher
Another little flip book for today! This one is a little less cheery then the flower, but it certainly has "historical poignancy" as the back says.
"Colophon: This 1st edition of our Scholar Series flip books is recommended for its historical poignancy. Art Library has 2nd edition, Special Collections has 1st edition. Place of publication from R.C. Bradbury. Movement of pages produces an animated image of a blade falling from a guillotine."--Catalog
Spine is stapled in two places to allow for easy page flipping.
--Diane R., Special Collections Graduate Student
Despite the red pages, the guillotine has no victims today, perhaps for ease of drawing, or perhaps because of "...That elusive Pimpernel!"

Day 8: Details! Details! For all that Marguerite (The Scarlet Pimpernel) is a frequently-photographed costume, I have relatively few pictures showing the fine detail work! I did SO MUCH handwork on this dress: All the gold lace on the entire costume is hand-painted. All the jewels and dangly bits are sewn on by hand. The heat-set crystals were individually placed. I even made the jewelry from loose stones (as well as cannibalized hair accessories, keychains, etc.) and assembled the buttons from parts! Basically, if it's on this costume and isn't fabric, I made it by hand. #shepropchallenge #30daychallenge #cosplay #sewing #margueritestjust #thescarletpimpernel https://www.instagram.com/p/CE4eS-njeK-/?igshid=15f5qvi0bzzcs

Musical Monday
This week we continue journeying through the 1998 Tony Awards season, and this musical is a doozey! The score is quite beautiful, and it certainly had the oomph to make a splash on Broadway. Unfortunately, it did not come up with a Best Musical trophy in hand. With that, let’s get on to the highlights!
Musical Monday date: 3/18/2019
Musical: The Scarlet Pimpernel
Book, Music, and Lyrics: Nan Knighton, Frank Wildhorn, and Nan Knighton
Broadway Run: November 9, 1997 - January 2, 2000
Awards Won: 1998 Theatre World Award (Douglas Sills)
Other: Within its 772-performance run, The Scarlet Pimpernel closed at the Minskoff Theater, only to re-open 10 days later, still at the Minskoff, as a newly-revised production. It would later transfer to the Neil Simon Theater, where it would remain until it closed in 2000.
Fun Fact: The original cast boasted such Broadway names as Douglas Sills, Terrence Mann, Christine Andreas, and Sutton Foster. The revised cast included Rex Smith, Rachel York, and Mark McGrath.
Not a bad showing for a musical that didn’t win any Tony or Drama Desk awards. There’s definitely a population who are keen to the scores of Frank Wildhorn, and this is, indeed, one of his loveliest, in partnership with Nan Knighton. Next week we round out 1998 with one of my personal favorite musicals, a show I sure wish I could go back to before and see in its original shape. Have a great week, fellow thespians! Go listen to some Wildhorn and then go see a show!

Notice a trend? Blond British male fictional characters in period clothing who are not quite what they seem are kind of my thing. ❤️❤️❤️❤️ #carlislecullen #percyblakeney #twilight #newmoon #thescarletpimpernel https://www.instagram.com/p/BuIaLvvnE-L/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=inicmm2lb7h5

Listening to my favorite tracks from The Scarlet Pimpernel soundtrack, and I’m getting so many Snape vibes!
Prayer (second half) - “With time, I’ll find a way to right this wrong/ If it takes my whole life long/ I will fight my battles all alone” - after giving the prophecy to Voldemort
Falcon in the Dive - “I wasn’t born to sack and slaughter/ But on my soul, I wasn’t born/ to stoop to scorn and knuckle under!” - after joining the Death Eaters and realizing that he doesn’t entirely want to be there, but not ready to admit how much of a mistake he made
The Riddle - “We shamble on through this hell/ taking all our secrets to sell/ Till there comes a day/ when we sell our souls away” - spying on the Death Eaters, both times, although the selling souls line is more poignant at the end
When I Look at You Reprise - “You were once that someone who I followed like a star/ Then suddenly you changed and now I don’t know who you are” - POSSIBLY after SWM and the loss of his friendship with Lily, depending how you read them. I think most of the time he blames himself, but there must have been at least a few sleepless nights where he wonders if she changed too, from their childhood friendship...
Then the whole second act is where good things start to happen for the characters, and Snape never got any of those good moments... *sniffle*

the scarlet pimpernel
The Scarlet Pimpernel by Baroness Orczy published in 1905
5/5 This book has been a favorite of mine for years so I decided to put it to the test and reread it this summer, and it lived up to that expectation. Even though I knew what was about to happen, the book kept me surprised, as I had forgotten some of the little details Orczy slips in. This is another lighthearted adventure book and is definitely more of a just for fun read, but it is very fun to read. This book was actually the inspiration for modern day superhero movies and comics. The Scarlet Pimpernel was one of the earliest masked “superheroes” who keeps their identity anonymous.

Good day people!!!! Here, I present to you my #read8ber BOOK 3 REVIEW!!! It's been a long day for me with test and everything...I hate this day but love reading so I couldn't resist posting a review so here it is. QOTD: Have you read any Shakespeare novels??? AOTD: Yes, I have read 1 and that is Midsummer Night's Dream (the one I am about to review🙈🙈). Book information. Author: William Shakespeare. Pages: 128 pages Genre: Romance & Fantasy. Synopsis: One night two young couples run into an enchanted forest in an attempt to escape their problems. But these four humans do not realize that the forest is filled with fairies and hobgoblins who love making mischief. When Oberon, the Fairy King, and his loyal hobgoblin servant, Puck, intervene in human affairs, the fate of these young couples is magically and hilariously transformed. Ratings: 🌟1/5 Stars🌟. Review: What should I even say about this book??? I did not like it is not something I can say because I did not understand it. This novel was a dialogue. It had all the characters come and tell their lines and leave. When I first told my friend that I will be reading this book, she told me jokingly that I should keep a dictionary beside me to read and understand this book. I didn't understand anything at all especially because it was written in a dialogue format. I wanted to dump the book at that instance but as it was for the read8ber, I did not dump it and I can't tell you if you will like this book or not but this opinion is mine and I hope you all understand that. So in short overall...I hated this book as it wasted my time and made me sleepy😴😴. So that was my review, comment below and tell me what you think about this book. I read this book for the readathon hosted by @bookbunnygirl @readbooks_withdev @the.insane.reader @the._bookarazzi Thank you so much for hosting this readathon, I am enjoying it. Day 19: Cosplay You're Most Proud Of It's hard to say which one I'm proudest of; there are lots of costumes that were goals or landmarks for me, and thus were personally satisfying. But the one that probably gets shown around at family gatherings the most is Marguerite. This dress was three years in the making, with fabric sourced from multiple countries, and was definitely a career highlight for me. This was the point at which I finally accepted that I was competent at sewing (because as someone who was entirely self-taught, didn't know the correct terminology, and had trouble following even basic sewing patterns, I'd always had a fair amount of doubt in that regard). Also, it's just really pretty and I love the fact that I can stop traffic when I wear it. 🤩 #shepropchallenge #30daychallenge #cosplay #sewing #margueritestjust #thescarletpimpernel #takarazuka https://www.instagram.com/p/CFU7ALdjpLj/?igshid=4dxr9byzzuq2

#AusBookishPhotoChallenge 3. Favourite Reads 💞 Hm, I always find myself stuck when having to pick some favourites out of a BIG stack of favourites so I've gone and dug up this book that started me on my reading path. It doesn't seem to be that well known 🤔 You definitely can't just rock up to a bookstore to buy a copy... it's not standard stock like Austen or Dickens 😌 Have you heard of The Scarlet Pimpernel? Have you read it? There have been some BBC adaptations too 😉 #igreads #bookstagram #ausbookishfeatures #TheScarletPimpernel #baronessOrczy #EmmuskaOrczy #classics #adventure #romance #maskedhero #frenchrevolution #favouritebook https://www.instagram.com/p/B-geWJdgBfS/?igshid=11q8bat2h57f0
