Pietro Paolo Mennea #colorized by @mydigitalartwork 28 June 1952 – 21 March 2013 was an Italian #sprinter and politician. He was most successful in the 200 m event, in which he won a gold medal at the 1980 Moscow Olympics and set a #worldrecord at 19.72 seconds in September 1979. This record stood for almost 17 years – the longest duration in the event history – and is still listed as the European record. #pietromennea, who was born in #Barletta, started his long international #athletic career in 1968 when he took part in a junior race in Termoli and he was registered in AVIS Barletta club; in 1971, he won the first of his 14 Italian outdoor titles in the 100 and 200 m. He went on to win two indoor titles in 60 m and #400m, along with five Mediterranean Games gold medals in 100 m and 200 m. He competed at the European Championships with a third place in the 4 × 100 m relay. He made his Olympic debut at the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich, where he made the final of the 200 m, his strongest event. He finished in third place, behind #ValeriBorzov and #LarryBlack. Three more consecutive #Olympics 200 metre finals would follow later in his career, the longest roe ever in this event. At the 1974 European Championships, Mennea claimed the 200 m gold in front of his home crowd in #Rome, while also placing second behind Borzov in the #100m and the 4×100m. After some poor performances in the 1976 #Olympicseason, Mennea decided to skip the Olympics, but when the Italian public protested Mennea went to Montreal. He finished fourth in the 200 m and sixth in the 4 × 100 m relay. In 1977 he finished second in the world cup 200, where a #photofinish separated him from #ClancyEdwards of the United States. He successfully defended his European #200m title in 1978 but displayed his capabilities in the 100 metres by also winning that event in Prague. #sportlife #sportsman #runnerlife #colorizedphoto #colorizedpicture (presso Barletta) https://www.instagram.com/p/BteiW_Anicp/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1jfi5tnfq7lhd

Claudine Auger #colorized by @mydigitalartwork (born Claudine Oger; 26 April 1941) is a French actress best known for her role as #Bondgirl, Dominique "Domino" Derval, in the #JamesBond film #Thunderball (1965). She earned the title of #MissFrance Monde and was also the first runner-up in the 1958 Miss World contest. Jean Cocteau cast Auger in an uncredited role as a tall ballerina in Testament of #Orpheus (1960). When she was 18, she married the 43-year-old writer-director Pierre Gaspard-Huit, and he cast her in several films, including Le Masque de fer (1962) and Kali Yug: Goddess of Vengeance (1963). In 1966 she co-starred in the World War II drama Triple Cross with #YulBrynner and #ChristopherPlummer. When she was on holiday in #Nassau, writer-producer Kevin McClory saw her and recommended that she audition for his film Thunderball (1965). The most immediate byproduct of claudineauger stardom was a semi-nude #Playboy spread. Thunderball launched Auger into a successful European #movie career, but did little for her otherwise in the United States. She did however star in a Danny Thomas Special called ‘The Road to Lebanon’ with #BingCrosby which was shown on NBC on 20 April 1966. In 1968, she co-starred with another Bond girl, #UrsulaAndress, in the Italian comedy Anyone Can Play. In 1971, she starred with two future Bond girls, #BarbaraBach and #BarbaraBouchet, in Black Belly of the Tarantula, a giallo mystery. She had some roles in European films such as Triple Cross (1966) (reuniting her with her James Bond director Terence Young), and The Killing Game (1967). In 1994, Auger appeared in the British television series The Memoirs of #SherlockHolmes, in "The Three Gables" as Isadora Klein, in one of the last episodes of that series starring Jeremy Brett. https://www.instagram.com/p/Btb_3ANHmAb/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=xbzfq9gx2hvi

She achieved #fame during the #1940s as one of the era's top stars, appearing in a total of 61 #films over 37 years. The press coined the term "The Love Goddess" to describe Hayworth after she had become the most #glamorous screen #idol of the 1940s. She was the top #pinup girl for GIs during #WorldWarII. Hayworth is perhaps best known for her performance in the 1946 film noir, #Gilda, opposite #GlennFord, in which she played the femme fatale in her first major dramatic role. #FredAstaire, with whom she made two films, called her his favorite dance partner. Her greatest success was in the #Technicolor musical Cover Girl (1944), with #GeneKelly. She is listed as one of the top 25 female motion picture stars of all time in the American Film Institute's survey, AFI's 100 Years...100 Stars. In 1980, Hayworth was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease, which contributed to her death at age 68. The public disclosure and discussion of her illness drew attention to Alzheimer's, which was largely unknown by most people at the time, and helped to increase public and private funding for Alzheimer's research. #oldmovies #silverscreen https://www.instagram.com/p/BtHTRnkn8OR/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1idk11khir694

An old Italian woman shows her gratitude to one of the American #soldiers following the liberation of Italy in #1945 The Italian Campaign of #WorldWarII consisted of the Allied operations in and around #Italy, from #1943 to the end of the war in Europe. Joint Allied Forces Headquarters (AFHQ) was operationally responsible for all Allied land forces in the Mediterranean theatre, and it planned and commanded the invasion of Sicily in July 1943, followed shortly thereafter in September by the invasion of the Italian mainland and the campaign on Italian soil until the surrender of the German Armed Forces in Italy in #May1945. It is estimated that between September 1943 and April 1945, some 60,000–70,000 Allied and 38,805-150,660 German soldiers died in Italy. Overall Allied casualties during the campaign totaled about 320,000 and the corresponding German figure (excluding those involved in the final surrender) was over 330,000. Fascist Italy, prior to its collapse, suffered about 200,000 casualties, mostly POWs taken in the Allied invasion of Sicily, including more than 40,000 killed or missing. Besides them, over 150,000 Italian civilians died, as did 35,828 anti-Fascist #partisans and some 35,000 #troops of the Italian Social Republic. In the West, no other campaign cost more than Italy in terms of lives lost and wounds suffered by infantry forces of both sides, during bitter small-scale fighting around strongpoints at the Winter Line, the Anzio beachhead and the #GothicLine. The campaign ended when Army Group C surrendered unconditionally to the Allies on May 2, 1945, one week before the formal German Instrument of Surrender. The independent states of San Marino and the Vatican, both surrounded by Italian territory, also suffered damage during the campaign. #blackandwhitephoto #colorized by @mydigitalartwork #mydigitalartwork #colorizedphoto #colorizedpicture #colorizedphotos #colorizedpictures #ww2 #history #warhistory #historicalphotos #secondworldwar a special thank's to @colors.of.time and @colorizedsuburbia (presso Rome, Italy) https://www.instagram.com/p/BtCW4WkHeY6/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=p0250qfgn90l

#SharonMarieTate Polanski (January 24, 1943 – August 9, 1969) was an American #actress and #model. During the #1960s, she played small #television roles before appearing in #films and was regularly featured in #fashion magazines as a model and #covergirl. After receiving positive reviews for her comedic and dramatic acting performances, Tate was hailed as one of #Hollywood's most promising newcomers. She made her film debut in 1961 in #Barabbas with #AnthonyQuinn. She was seen next in 1966 with the occult-themed Eye of the Devil. Her most remembered performance was as Jennifer North in the 1967 cult classic film, #ValleyoftheDolls, earning her a #GoldenGlobe Award nomination. Tate's last completed film, 12+1, was released posthumously in 1969, with the actress receiving top billing. On January 20, 1968, Tate married #RomanPolanski, her director and co-star in 1967's The Fearless Vampire Killers. On August 9, 1969, Tate and four others were murdered by members of #theMansonFamily in the home she shared with Polanski. At the time of her death, she was eight-and-a-half months pregnant with the couple's son. A decade after Tate's murder, the actress' mother, #DorisTate, in response to the growing cult status of the killers and the possibility of them being granted parole, organized a public campaign that resulted in amendments to the California criminal law. Tate's mother went on to say that the law would "help transform Sharon's legacy from murder victim to a symbol of victims' rights". A book by Tate's sister, #DebraTate, titled #SharonTate: Recollection, was released in 2014. #blackandwhitephoto #colorized by @mydigitalartwork #mydigitalartwork #colorizedphoto #colorizedphotos #colorizedpicture #colorizedpictures https://www.instagram.com/p/Bs5xXIln34o/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1o9cocyva5xvv

*Buster keaton* Joseph Frank "Buster" Keaton (October 4, 1895 – February 1, 1966) was an American #actor, #comedian, #film director, producer, screenwriter, and stunt performer. He was best known for his #silentfilms, in which his trademark was physical comedy with a consistently stoic, deadpan expression, earning him the nickname "The Great Stone Face". Critic Roger Ebert wrote of Keaton's "extraordinary period from 1920 to 1929, [when] he worked without interruption on a series of films that make him, arguably, the greatest actor–director in the history of the movies". His career declined afterward with a dispiriting loss of his artistic independence when he was hired by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, his wife divorced him, and he descended into alcoholism. He recovered in the 1940s, remarried, and revived his career to a degree as an honored comic performer for the rest of his life, earning an Academy Honorary Award #busterkeaton #silentmovie #metrogoldenmayer #stoneface #stuntman #vintagemovies https://www.instagram.com/p/BkX0fnyj_7l/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1nljo5i1b27xd

She was successful and appeared in The Sins of Casanova (1955) (starring later Bond ally Gabriele Ferzetti). She followed it with An American in Rome (1954) (starring #AlbertoSordi) and La catena dell'odio (1955). She was seen by a Hollywood executive who persuaded her to try her luck in Hollywood. Andress arrived in #Hollywood in January 1955. In March she was signed to a seven-year contract with #Paramount Pictures starting at $287 a week. The contract resulted in no acting roles due to her inability to learn English at the time. "I spent most of my time watching old #MarleneDietrich movies," she said. Andress did receive some publicity for dating #JamesDean shortly before the actor's death. She bought herself out of her contract. In March 1956 it was announced she signed to Columbia Pictures. She made no films for them either, and was #MissWorld Trade of 1956. #John Derek https://www.instagram.com/p/BsrIdgznXgF/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=15qmvkmge7l3f
