Thoughts about the supposed direction Rhaena's storyline is going in Hotd and the apparent Nettles erasure? Disappointing but... I can sort of see where they could take it? Idk... looking at grrm's posts in hindsight kinda makes me even more disappointed if he is as well (he just can't get his adaptations right atp but idk)

Well. Pre-ep7, we're still pending any Rhaena-Sheepstealer bonding, but I'm basically 😑🫠 about the rumors. (I dislike borrowing trouble, I'm not even sure how many of the rumors are true -- actually I'm pretty sure many of these supposed "leaks" are straight up lies -- and yet. Still *disgruntled meh* and *"we're all fine-everyone's fine here" dread*.) Rhaena is one of my more beloved F&B characters (it's the Sansa parallels, I can't help myself), and Nettles has been a super fave since TPATQ and TWOIAF. (Particularly TWOIAF, since the Burned Men fire-witch reveal; heck, I think my little dollmaker is still one of the few fanarts of Nettles in the mountains.)

I mean, sure, I understand that Rhaena's book storyline during the Dance, where she's offpage from basically the start of the war until nearly the end of it, socializing in the Vale and waiting for her egg to hatch, would be difficult to adapt in an action-oriented visuals-oriented television show. (Like Rhaenyra this season sure isn't just catatonically crying from Luke's death until Jace's.) And I'm glad Rhaena's getting more to do, and I'm glad it's directly addressing her feeling slighted and ignored by her family since she doesn't have a dragon. However...

I do not want Rhaena merged into one character with Nettles! I do not want Rhaena to have Sheepstealer and not her hope-for-the-future (doomed hope, and yet) baby dragon Morning, that hatched for her. Also note how pink Morning, worn as a fashion accessory, so suited Rhaena's coquette personality vs her sporty, adventurous twin sister... I mean, I've said before, I understand adaptations can be different, this still wouldn't make HOTD even close to a "loose adaptation".* But I do not want this adaptation to lose Rhaena's personality that I loved.

Or for that matter, to lose Nettles's character, and her importance to the themes and worldbuilding of ASOIAF. (See also.) And her importance to the plot -- but god knows, they're doing all sorts of things with Daemon and Rhaenyra on this show, toxic romance or what have you, who knows if once Daemon reaches his emotional breakthrough or whatever at Harrenhal this season, if they want to backslide him into a cheating plot in S3 while Daemon is again stuck in a castle for months.** Nevertheless, I'd be deeply disappointed to lose scenes like "as well as her dragon, the girl had taken to riding Daemon", or the last morning in Maidenpool scene... and um, you can't really fit Rhaena in there, or if you did, it would certainly put the lie to the ship denialists' "he just treated her like a father, platonically bathing naked together!" (Also the pretty blatant fake S3 leaks including one where Rhaenyra decides Rhaena has betrayed her... are pretty blatantly fake, sorry.)

And then there would be the frankly racist erasure of the one book black character. "Oh but the show made the Velaryons black, so it's not erasing, it's adding more!" No, sorry. (1) I was and am all for adding more racial diversity to the show and especially to Valyrians, but face it, when you take the book's secondary character Velaryons, two who get killed off early and are portrayed as lesser to the "true" Daemon/Rhaenyra marriage, and make them black, you've already done a lot of hinky damage there. (2) What, it's that hard to write three distinct black girls with very different personalities and one from an incredibly different background? I don't see Addam and Alyn getting merged. I don't see Aemond and Daeron getting merged. I don't see Hugh and Ulf getting merged. But I'm not really one to speak here, for this particular discussion I'd point you to @ride-thedragon and @venusintheblindspots-blog and @chrkrose, among others, they have many many posts on this subject in far greater detail and better argued than mine.

OK, so. I still have hope that Nettles -- even if not cast for this season (sorry y'all, that extra is an extra) -- may appear next season, and all this worry will turn out to be a tempest in a teapot. Per last report from the HOTD panel at SDCC, the rumor of Rhaena and Sheepstealer definitely doesn't happen in ep 7, though, yes, there's one episode after. And if it does happen... I'll be strongly disappointed. Deeply, deeply disappointed, and probably far more suspicious of future adaptational changes. But, for me at least, it's not a dealbreaker like GOT S5 was.*** I won't be happy at all about the storyline, but I would like to think the show will remain high quality re themes and character and all. Time will tell, though. Time will definitely tell.

As for GRRM, when his complaints seem to be "wild dragons shouldn't be in the Vale" and "the heraldry with four legs is wrong", well, I struggle to see that he's that disappointed in the adaptational changes. Believe me, I am well used to reading between the lines re GRRM and adaptations, something like the fact that he's not visiting the HOTD writers' room when he's in the UK is nothing. Catch me if at Worldcon or his Oxford lecture in August, GRRM again says that he could write a whole novel about Nettles, or if actually says something about non-Valyrian dragonriders, ok?

*I was just reading up on The Beast (2023) vs Henry James's “The Beast in the Jungle”. lol HOTD doesn't compare. Don't even think it, man.

**You know, this reminds me of how the Dance in F&B is not paced very well for individual characters, they keep going offscreen for months at a time. From shortly after Rhaenyra's crowning to the Fall of KL, Daemon just sits at Harrenhal and occasionally ventures out into the riverlands. From shortly after the Fall of KL until the Battle Above the Gods Eye, Daemon just... sits at Maidenpool and occasionally ventures out into the riverlands (with Nettles). Yeah, obviously a show would need to write more for him to do, he's a main character.

***Thank god HOTD isn't the sort of exploitative shitshow that GOT was. All y'all thinking it was a better adaptation because of your nostalgia goggles (and/or shitty memory) need to actually reread the books (especially AFFC/ADWD) and then submit yourself to the real-world misogynist and homophobic nonsense of S5-6 again, ugh.

Which of these fanfic ideas has the most potential to be good?

To make a long story short; I have long believed that the MCs of “Danny Phantom”, “American Dragon: Jake Long” and “The Life and Times of Juniper Lee” seemed like something of a trifecta of sorts of supernatural/paranormal animated adventure shows. This is why I have often put some thought into making fanfiction for the three shows and that has culminated into the conception of three story ideas, all of which I like to have some feedback on, in terms of which one has the most potential to be good. Keep in mind, though, that two of these ideas I have already gotten started on to a certain degree, one of which has been on hiatus for quite some time, while the other has taken a great deal of priority in my book, and the only remaining idea is still just that; an idea. Still I would like to hear some feedback on these ideas

1. Generation Ghost - Inspired by a fanart picture that I once saw (whose creator I contacted and informed about this), this was intended to be a sequel series for ‘Danny Phantom’, set many years into the future and focused on the adventures of Danny and Sam’s three children, who have all begun to play hero themselves, in an attempt to follow in their parent’s footsteps. An especially significant development that has led them to learning about how to work as a team and how to use their inherited ghost abilities to fight the good fight (or how to do so without any, in one of the siblings case). All while they encounter a great deal of friends and foes in both the human world and the Ghost Zone, both old and new, and try to make it through the difficulties of being in grade school.

2. American Dragon: Way of the Fire-Breathers - A sequel series for “American Dragon: Jake Long” that follows Jake Long and his family and friends as they all deal with quite a few new challenges and adventures as they all come their way. Such as the experiences of High School, the addition of 2 new dragon characters in the mix and the rise of a whole new threat to both the human and the magical worlds. All while the ancient and long-forgotten history of the dragon race is being made to gradually but surely come into the light.

3. A spinoff series for “The Life and Times of Juniper Lee” - Now, I haven’t exactly worked out all the details for this one, but, the basic idea is that 5 characters from the original series; Taylor Evermore from the “Who’s Your Daddy” episode (this guy👇)

; Juniper Lee’s School rival, Melissa O’Malley (her👇)

; the older sister of one of June’s friends, Rachel Irwin (her👇)

Ashley the 4th/5th degree witch from the “Take My Life, Please” episode (her👇)

And Ray-Ray Lee

; are all brought together to form a team of magical guardians that will deal with the Magic-related problems occurring far far away from Orchid Bay, the problems that occasionally slip underneath the radar of the Te Xuan Ze their inner circles. I do have at least 5 different plot lines for this idea firmly decided upon; 1.) Taylor will be the group leader 2.) Taylor and Melissa will ultimately form a romantic relationship 3.) Both Melissa and Rachel will realize just how bad that they have been and how rotten that have treated others, thus resulting in them both becoming more kind and caring people 4.) Ashley and Ray-Ray will have a very strong little brother/big sister relationship, and 5.) Ray-Ray discovering new things about himself which will result in him developing some new powers and abilities.

She's 7 and a very energetic kid

She was born albino with blue eyes and a single yellow lock (from her mother) that nows change with her emotions

Definitely a daddy's little princess, her start with Azul was rough tho, she definitely lashed at him during the first days or week because she saw how the witches killed her mother and having to move with someone you just met that says is your father wasn't easy, it took time but she became VERY attached to Azul and is scare of him leaving her alone so she clings to him, play or paints with him (daddy's little artist)

The first time she used her demon form was the night she lost her mother, her uncontrolled powers and emotions ended in her killing a good amount of them before Solomon came, tho she doesn't know she killed them because she was under some kind of trance thanks to the hate emotion (black), Solomon does know, and he told Azul what happened

She changes color the same way as Azul with some differences, for example the lock on her head, she also has tattoos or more exactly, marks that started to appear when she was 5 as some sort of "burn marks" later discovered to be her tattoos, it hasn't stopped appearing yet so new marks are discovered everyday, her clothes are sorta translucent so it shines when she changes color

Sometimes emotions are hard to process so she enters in a "numb mode" Wich is an side effect from her mother's controlled demeanor, so she can go from not being able to control her emotions to not being able to feel them at all, this happen mostly late at night when she suffers from nightmares and she stays still looking at nothing, something very different from her energetic normal form, she unconsciously seek for her father in this form because she doesn't know what else to do, tho she seems like a ghost walking like that

thanks to Azul's and Domnra's close friendship her best friend is definitely Nikolai, and since he's the shy one she takes the role of protective friend, it's normal for them to run and play around so their fathers found them more than once asleep on top of eachother with Mobim in there too

Overall a very sweet and energetic ghost butterfly demon child.

I don’t talk about Owl House much on here, but its finale is in just a little over half an hour.

Thank you, @danaterrace. Your show and artistic vision brought me nothing but endless motivation and drive to be better and accept myself (other than a lot of crying in s2b and s3, the finale won’t be any different i’m betting lol.) When I realized I was gay and trans, I had a lot of struggle accepting myself. When I saw the Owl House, I felt so at home and loved. I don’t come from an unaccepting house, but coming out to people you’ve known for years is hard. And other than the later episodes of the show giving me trauma, my mental health always feels better when I watch the show and form new theories.

Aside from helping me personally, TOH helped me grow as both an artist and writer. For years I struggled drawing humans and writing believable plots, but seeing how the show made use of tropes and dynamics, I got a better grasp of how to do that. Not to mention every bit of fanart and the animations I made helped me draw better! I must have drawn Luz and Eda countless times.

And the whole community. Everyone in the fandom Ive met is so sweet. Once Amphibia ended, aside from the fake movie trailers the fandom started to die out, but I’m desperately hoping that the TOH fandom doesn’t.

We love you, Dana. Thanks to you, all of us witches who have lost our way have seemed out the key to watching and dreaming for the future. ❤️

With an amount of fanart of Kreide being depicted as sickeningly sweet or creepy, what if

Yandere Kreide?

I'm going to preface this by saying that, while I try not to yuck other people's yums as the saying goes, I am not a fan of yanderes for a variety of reasons. Also not generally a big fan of cute things being turned creepy; I posit that some things are meant to remain symbols of Good and Safety, and corrupting those needs to be deliberate, not a one-off for cheap thrills. As such, at a glance, most things I've seen with Yandere Kreide really rub me the wrong way.

However, I AM intrigued enough to consider how I WOULD make it work. So I'll go ahead and wander down the rabbit hole just this once, but I kindly request that I receive no further Yandere asks in the future. That said, here we go...

Even setting my biases aside for sake of this mental excercise, Kreide as written would need a lot of work for him being a yandere to make sense. Part of this is because at the start of Lingering Echoes, he lacks both the desire and power to go yandere. He's so selfless that even Czerny calls him out on it, and he's so low at the bottom of the society that he doesn't even have a bed of his own. A shift needs to happen there if he's going to trap and keep someone.

The other complicating factor is that you can't change this fact and give him either at the beginning, because then you can't get Ebenholz into the picture. Ebenholz has been manipulated his whole damn life, and a big reason why he comes to love and trust the other Lingering Echoes protagonists is because no one is trying to manipulate him. If Kreide is yandere from the start, Ebenholz will smell it right away and bolt.

So if you want a yandere Kreide? You have to make it a slow and deliberate slide. You have to dig deep and pull out his worst parts to mix with the love and light he stands for. And you have to do it in a way that even the one who loves him and is attuned to manipulative bullshit either doesn't notice or, worse yet, willingly walks into the slaughterhouse.

...but that's why you're here, isn't it?

Let's say we have a Kreide, who has faced a life he admits would be labeled tragic, and then he finally finds a bright spot: a childhood friend he thought lost! And even more, that friend needs him now, both for their performance and to navigate life outside The Spire! Kreide has to protect him, especially with so many things going wrong in Vysenheim and considering what they already lost as children.

Motivation-wise, I can see the yandere potential bloom easily enough.

Thing is, Kreide doesn't exactly have the resources to do much in the yandere department. Ebenholz has power afforded from his upbringing, and even though he doesn't really have friends, there are chessmasters like Gertrude who need to keep eyes on their pawns, and then concerned parties like Hibiscus and Czerny who would notice if something went amiss. Getting Ebenholz away from old political nets and new friendship ones is going to be a challenge. And again, this has to be done carefully so as not to tip off Ebenholz as to what's happening.

Luckily for the yandere fans, there's one ace in the hole: The Witch King.

Consider his influence getting louder during Lingering Echoes, especially with the resonance between Ebenholz and Kreide. Kreide falling sway to his internal voice whispering to take take take what's rightfully his, and with the Arts to back it up. That has potential, especially if it's late in the events of Lingering Echoes and everyone's plans are falling apart. A Kreide that's more cooperative with the Witch King, if he could also keep himself alive, could potentially steal away with Ebenholz and escape to somewhere both of them could be "safe". Ebenholz might even willingly go with him, and stay both out of love for Kreide and guilt over what happened. Sure, others might look for them at first, but doesn't it solve so many problems for both of them to just...disappear?

Thing is, Kreide is Infected, and a yandere variation of him may well infect Ebenholz too. So there's the additional complication of acquiring medicine and/or treatment if they don't want to burn through their infections quickly and perish together. Other supplies might be an issue too, since we can't have Ebenholz giving away his location by using his card.

Then again, if Kreide has power now, well, power can get you anything, right? Just ask the Witch King. But what's this? Ebenholz is getting upset? Doesn't he know that Kreide is trying to help him (that he's giving up so much, he's always given up so much)? Well, just need to keep Ebenholz somewhere nice and secure until he can calm down. Kreide has things to do. But don't worry Ebenholz! He'll come back this time!

Ebenholz is never going to be alone again. And this Witch King, born out of love instead of hatred, is just as terrifying as the original.

I could use some help with some OCs I’ve been meaning to rework.

I was going through some of my old Tintin fanart from 2013 and considering remaking several OCs that I’ve made.

Aside from my already reworked OCs, I would like some ideas on these OCs.

1) I have one OC, who is Korean. But I’ve been wanting to rework her a little more. I’ve been considering making her a relative of Chang in some way, but I could use some help with ideas.

She also has children; two girls and a baby boy.

2) I once made an OC who’s related to Tintin, making her his cousin. I have a concept redesign of her that isn’t published yet, but I’ve been meaning to change her ethnicity a little.

3) These next two are Irish OCs. Their original background is that they moved to Brussels from Ireland and own a bakery, but I think I might change up their story a little. I do have some idea on how to redesign them, maybe alter their appearance and names a little. I might plan on using them for a future Tintin fan story of mine, The Witch of Londonderry.

4) These two are sibling OCs. They come from a rich family living in San Theodoros. I may change the girl’s design. As for background, I could use some ideas.

5) Finally, I have three Japanese OCs. The man in the middle is a widowed father living in rural Tokyo with his two children. Tintin is especially close to the little girl, acting like a parent to her.

Hope this doesnt come of sounding the wrong way, but have you ever written/drawn an fully original story/world, and if not, do you ever want to, or are you satisfied with just doing fanfics and fanart for the forseable future?

I'm currently working on a visual novel called Villain Reform School.

I haven't talked about it much recently, because I don't know when chapter 1 will be fully completed. We're getting really close, but there's still a lot to do. I work full time outside of this and the team I can afford is a lead programmer and my brother on editing.

(I'm the author, artist, audio director, and secondary programmer on it. So there's a lot of hats I've been cycling through.) Having watched games crash under the wieght of doing that and maintaining a media presense, I decided to focus on making it first and promoting it once it's out.

You play as a teen super villain that failed to take over the city and has to go to school with all the kids he brainwashed during his master plan and his old squad.

Fanfiction and fanart is a nice creative break for me. The hardest part of a project like this is I have black and white thinking when it comes to progress on it (either it's done or it's not). Where as fics and art I can post in stages and get instant feedback on.

I have an interest in writing original novels, but finding a literary audience is difficult for someone like me, who sucks at networking and works nights. I am working on an original story atm, but I don't have the first chapter finished yet. Right now it's just a for fun thing. (It's going to be about a witch princess/trainee trying to teach a boy how to be a witch just to prove she can. It ends badly.)

Warrior U Fanmade is a project I'm also working on. It is a fancomic, but I have the creator's permission to distribute anything I make with Warrior U so long as I properly credit her. (She's moved onto different projects) It's a fan continuation of the orginal comic, but I tried to write it in a way that anyone jumping in at this point will have an easy time getting into it.

Changeling acts a stand alone fantasy story about Finn meeting the rich family that disowned his mother for using magic.

I have a collaborator who helped a bunch with the first issue, and our physicial copies are set to be available online next week!

I've been working on this at the same time as other fandom stuff so it updates online weekly. I learned a lot from this issue and have gone from just writing and illustrating to figuring out the storyboard and paneling side of things.

Idk if I'd ever want to do an original comic. My love for complicated character designs demands the VN format.

I have a couple VN ideas, but Villain Reform School is the one I wanted to have the most creative control over. It's also a meaty project. Prologue and Chapter 1 are around 90 k together and there's supposed to be 5 in total. Some of the major mechanics I want haven't been 100% ironed out yet. And I need to get player feedback on certain story elements first before I commit to writing another 180k of a playstyle we might have to rework or cut.
