You are capable of harming others. No matter who you are or what you’ve been through. Even if you think you are the most oppressed demographic in the world. Even if you’ve been through the worst traumas known to humankind. None of it gives you an excuse to lash out at people who have done nothing to you personally. None of it. The people you think are your oppressors, whether you’re right or not, are people with flesh and blood and feelings. You can hurt your oppressors and you can hurt people you oppress and you can hurt members of your own marginalized communities. Women can perpetuate sexism against others. Trans people can perpetuate exorsexism, transmisogyny, and transandrophobia against others. Poc can perpetuate racism and colorism against others. Disabled people can perpetuate ableism against others. Your strongest held beliefs are not always right and if you act in a way that harms others based on them you may very well regret it later. Keep this in mind and recognize and respond appropriately to harm when it does happen. Because I can tell you it almost certainly will. Not because of who you are, but because that is what it means to be human. Let’s be kind to other humans together.

i wish people realized when someone is talking about characters such as liliana or bor'dor that not one person is asking them to worship at their altars and call them their favorite characters, but just to acknowledge that they were built as People with stories in the narrative. someone comparing them to essek isnt asking you to like them as much as essek but to see how they have all been affected by ludinus's propoganda/manipulation, and why they believe it and got to that point. if your instinct is to call any and all analyses of a villain crazy and indicative of choosing their side, im sorry you're missing out on so much juicy narrative. it will not make you suck ludinus's cock to break down what makes an antagonist tick and compare them to more protagonistic characters whose themes they expand upon.

I've seen some very odd takes about certain language used in the scene where Mizrak rebukes Olrox at the end of Castlevania: Nocturne, which I think might be due to lack of knowledge about the historical context of certain things.
CW: historical racism against First Nation groups
I know reading academic articles isn't for everyone, but I have to wonder if a lot of people in the Castlevania: Nocturne fandom have not watched things like, say, Disney's 1995 animated Pocahontas, which, for all its many, many flaws, features the song, Savages. I'm not going to quote it in full here, you can find the song lyrics elsewhere (though the European colonizers do use the lines "vermin" and "barely even human", among other epithets). It's not a great song for a lot of reasons (among them being it tries to "both sides" things). But to look at the scene in CN where Mizrak, a Christian working in a European Christian church with at least some Europeans, calls Olrox, a First Nation man, an animal without the understanding of how Christian European colonizers (typically as part of or at least backed by some Christian churches) have viewed First Nation peoples and treated them, and certain epithets used for them, and how European Christian dehumanization of "new world" groups and non-Christians generally worked/works?
Well.
#castlevania nocturne#mizrak#racism#olrox#I mean it's probably a good thing people aren't watching the very racist movie#but it's weird considering the movie's impact on audiences and media generally and how well known it is#european and christian dehumanization of non-Christians and other marginalized peoples is well-known#and it has been weaponized many many times#to look at how Mizrak is specifically weaponizing that and ignoring what he is doing is a choice#also to ignore how Mizrak himself likely faced similar racism#and as a member of a marginalized group likely learned to weaponize himself after joining#which is a common thing as well in part as a survival tactic so you do not become a target of the in-group and get ostracized#you don't have to watch the Disney movie to know this stuff#it's just unfortunately probably a way a lot of people know about the phenomenon#like idk what do you think Christian Missions are for#a lot is happening in the scene and I'm not averse to the take that Mizrak is being very specific for a variety of reasons#I just think he is very aware of what he is saying#and why#don't see em as much lately but back when the show first came out stuff was wild#and some of the comments on my fics well#bigotry#I think the crew are doing very specific things about the weaponization of language#and how racism was used for colonization#and for indoctrination#and that is I guess still flying over folks' heads#like it's a double thing#vampires are considered animals by humans#but the word can have lots of meanings#like we've had the 'tired of elves being fantasy metaphors for racism' discourse#what do folks think vampires are

the boy-but-not-that-way-ism of riz gukgak send tweet
#not art#have been chipping away at a more... proper? so to say. piece of the kids for keepsake. and since its of them at the beach Im rotating#gender stuff in brain again. riz and gorgug ping a lot of the like funny gender stuff in my brain#very specifically adjacent to cultural understanding of it all... like I did say I do think riz has a gender and it can be#translated to ''man'' in solesian understanding but also that boy has close to no self awareness nor does he want to#he grew up as ''goblin'' before ''boy'' and it's kinda how he perceives himself. got a gender but doesn't wanna do much with it#kinda imagining him seeing his grandparents again and realizing that there's a gap there between himself and his grandpa too#and sitting with that for a bit. not for long that kid doesnt do that but for just a little bit#man I truly really do love that riz is aroace. my boy of the unquantifiable unimportant margins....#gorgug though is 100% trans lmao. there's a kinda distance to his own body in how he acts#that's kinda common in ''mad scientist'' characters? (or maybe my perspective's just skewed due to willow jenkins lmao)#kid spent the first two seasons fitting himself in places he Should be able to fit. and s3 is pretty much all about him Making New Spaces#thing is despite looking ardently for like. the reason Why he can't fit in in the first season I think gorgug really does#love his gnome parents and love being their child. and its confusing and tough to have to learn why something you love still hurts you#he wants it to not. he wants to make sense. and then it does and it changes nothing really#until he actively makes choices based on what he's learned. like. damn idk how to word it but#just like the ability to say ''actually this Is my life what are u gonna do? stop me from living it?'' is a powerful force#its rly fun to look at these two guys in these contexts thats like#they will never win the gender game just by virtue of being who they are. it's not designed for folks like them to win#but riz would simply not play and gorgug would design his Own game he's the champion of. and I think that rules

I saw people stealing your art without permission on YouTube
proof
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Before your can talk and explain, are you ok with people just stealing your art and just post it on YouTube?
First of all, you say that like I knew about either of them- And yes, like just about every other artist, I'd prefer it people just credited me for the art, DUH. But at the same time, from the looks of it; both of these dudes are clearly kids. They probably don't really understand the importance of crediting the artist yet and just reposted the art because they thought it looked nice from Pinterest... So I can't say I'm all that bothered over it. Please please PLEASE don't bully them over this, at most just ask that they at least credit me with like a link to my stuff or something. Inform, don't scorn. They're just being silly kids.

aro culture is not understanding why people get so upset about celebrities and influencers' sham/PR marriage. Sure, some of those influencers are awful people. But when people talk about them using marriage to get attention as if that's the worst thing in the world, as if that somehow tarnish the sanctity of marriage, I just don't understand. You're just signing a piece of paper; calm down.

unrebloggable because id krill myself if this started getting notes but a brief summary of my thoughts on the matter !!! also kind of obviously this is just irt headcanon & such. obviously the most hated "fandom activism" or whatever is frequently just folks pointing out the stereotypes or shitty choices textually in the media & saying "hey maybe think critically about this for more than two seconds" & often receives backlash from people who r incapable of holding multiple ideas in their head at once!!

tbh going from a town of a thousand where you could walk from one end to the other in 40 minutes and every face you saw was white to a decently big city really is exposing a lot of my biases and shit. like I'm not activist (at this moment anyway), but I thought I was at least decently in the know, enough to not seem like a dumbass. but moving up north and seeing the diversity and culture of groups of people I've NEVER met before in my life has shown me exactly how "small town values" my small town was yk?

Me personally if I'm refusing to lower my standards for a white-led piece of media I'm also refusing to do it for poc-led media. Like yes people of color should be able to make crappy shows and make bad art but I think people, in their effort to show support for people of color, completely throw standards out the window and it's something that I'm personally not going to compromise on just because the thing is Black-led or something. Like if there's no concern for the craft shown, if the writing is out of whack and the acting is bad and there are things that are just unpleasant to watch, why would I continue? Why would I recommend it? Some people can look past those things; I can't.
And it feels patronizing, to me, to lower those standards just because the thing is mostly about people of color. I've seen people hold back both petty and serious critiques of something they've seen because it's poc-led and again it's like they'd give the art their full attention and their full respect if it was white-led, if it was less diverse.
Yes people of color are allowed to make bad art, but how do you expect them to improve if you show them enough respect to tell them?

I wish there were more blatant examples of people like me living successful lives that weren’t characterized by daily vent posts about the trauma of it all.
I wish the list of joys far outweighed the list of complaints. I wish it somehow wasn’t unbearably boring to make or see a ton of “woke up this morning, I'm still happily myself, and everything is ok!” posts. I wish people were safe to share positive experiences without risking harassment and discrimination.
I wish it wasn’t so complicated to find people like myself who are just happy.

I forget exactly where I saw the initial post asking for volunteers, but on July 10th, I reached out to the listed email. Jane, the organizer, got back to me right away and within an hour I was added in their discord.
Up until this point, I had been maintaining an average 8 ESims myself, so I already had experience checking in on them on a daily basis. The folks there helped me onboard with the spreadsheets for keeping track, and now it's very easy for me to catalog new ones I buy and record daily data usage. The whole process takes me maybe 20-40 minutes a day depending now on how many ESims actually need to be topped off.
Jane has been very up front with lots of the group's information, with frequent announcements about the groups current funds and amounts of daily ESims sent out. She and the others have been super helpful with getting funds to us when needed, and I've almost never had to actually spend any of my own money for any of this.
Tumblr media
In the time that I've been volunteering, they figured out how to run a Business account with the Nomad ESim company. Which means that now and then they can just send 15 or so ESims my way, and I just catalog them and send the QRcodes towards Mirna and the Connecting Gaza folks. No more wasting time with the purchasing process, while getting a bit of a bulk discount on top of that.
We also share updates on whatever brand of ESims are most needed. When folks on the ground tell us that one network doesn't seem reliable, we are able to switch over for a while until either the networking issue is fixed, or we all pressure customer service enough to replace them for us.
There's also lots of complaining about new UI updates an general website bugs. There's surprisingly a lot of them and it's good to know other folks are getting info from customer service when things go wrong.
In August they made a meme channel
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Anyways....
Tumblr media
Lets get into some stats for myself. In 2 months (July 10- Sept12) I have:
Send off 171 ESims
Maintained around 60 active ones
Topped up these active ESims 139 times
Spend over $6400 donated dollars
I have multiple power users who have burned through close to 100GB. 2 of them have broken 200GB. These are most likely being used as hot spots.
Tumblr media
Why am I sharing all of this? Mostly to show how easy it has been to make a marginal difference. I have helped at least 60 people stay connected with the outside world in just 2 months. Probably more if we assume some of the power users becoming hotspots for other folks. This is 20-40 minutes of my time a day, and I honestly regret not signing up to do this sooner.
I was specifically limiting myself to this workload because I wanted to test the waters. Those stats was me specifically not wanting to push myself and see what impact a normal person could make with 20 minutes a day. At this point I think I will be taking more advantage of Nomad's Tuesday discounts to really bulk up my numbers. It's pretty easy to buy 15 or so every Tuesday, and then send em over.
If you would like to join us in this endeavor, please reach out to Jane at cripsforesimsforgaza(at)gmail
We are specifically looking for people in European time zones, since a lot of us are in the Americas and that's quite a difference between us and Gaza. If not, that's no problem!
If you can't participate, that's totally fine, but please donate what you can! Folks like you are the ones who keep us going!
Tumblr media
I hope this information has been useful in some way. Like I said, I wish I had heard about this group sooner, with how easy it has been to do. I can track my direct impact of what my daily time is doing for folks, and seeing the data be used up a little bit more day by day gives me hope for everyone in Gaza. Thank you for your time.
