It's kinda fucked that we now go through a store page every time we want to play a game. Like, analog days, if I wanted to play a PC game I turned it on and I was playing the game. At no point was I directed through a series of advertisements to access the content. I was not given a catalog to leaf through casually. There may have been some advertising in the box for other products from the company or distributor, like send-away forms in old paperbacks, but that was it. Some fliers I had to go look at on purpose.

In contrast, *the store is now the default opening page*.

That's some shit to get away with, you know? Disney should have the leg up on that maneuver, they get people they just shot full of Space Mountain adrenaline taking euphoric financial risks, but Steam has it beat. It just shows us things, shows us that some of them are on sale, and tells us that we'd like them, and we backlog ourselves in cold blood.

The question is:

Does it have to be that way?

What would change if we simply had a game store that defaulted to your library,

started dabbling with weed in 2013, became a hobbyist by 2015, and movin to somewhere I could get it reliably signed me in as a full-time stoner by 2016

but always, always, minding the tolerance, always gotta make sure you have time to rebound so you’re not constantly upping the dose

tolerance breaks are a real thing, you gotta take some time off and your brain will go back to normal and you can go back to a nice economically feasible low dose, it’s important to plan ahead

which is why for years now I have had the thought
