1 - Were you glad to see the back of 2020? What were the best and worst parts of the year to you? >> I honestly did not care one way or the other. I understand why the ritualistic “good riddance to 2020″ thing works for people, it just doesn’t work for me. In my mind, it really doesn’t matter if it’s 2020 or 2021, just as long as it ain’t fuckin, say, 2009.

2 - If you’ve purchased something you love from a small business, are you likely to leave a review or anything afterwards? Why/why not? >> Yeah, like I just bought a bracelet from an Etsy seller and I left a happy review because I love the product. I never really thought about leaving reviews in the past, but it recently occurred to me that I should probably start doing it for independent sellers like that. This particular seller only had one or two other reviews aside from mine, so you know, it really makes a difference.

3 - When was the last time you received some good news? >> Well, seeing the pending stimulus deposit was good news. It is just enough to pay off the rest of what I owe on my computer, which means I do not have to worry about that anymore. I consider that a great relief, tbh; that $150/mo was no joke.

4 - Does wearing masks cause you to get acne or oily skin on your chin and around your nose? >> Nah. I’d probably have to wear them for much longer periods of time than I usually do for that to start happening.

5 - Do you prefer dogs or cats? Do you have a preferred breed as well? >> Dogs. Pitbulls are my fave breed.

6 - Do you have any plans for the next few days? Are these plans something you’re dreading or looking forward to? >> Mostly I just plan to enjoy having my normal routine back once Sparrow goes back to work (well, until Thursday, because now she’s going to be working from home every Thursday...).

7 - Leggings, jeans, jeggings or sweatpants? >> Sweatpants.

8 - How often do you meet new people? Is this something you’d like to change in any way? >> Not often at all, especially now. I don’t think it needs to be changed right now.

9 - What time did you wake up this morning? Would you rather have slept in longer? >> For the final time, around eight or so. I’m currently in a sleep deficit so I probably could have slept in longer, but I don’t like sleeping in. Maybe I’ll take a nap at some point, maybe not.

10 - What’s your favourite meal of the day? What’s your favourite thing to eat for that meal? >> I guess breakfast, since that’s my most stable and predictable meal most of the time. I almost always have a veggie burger and chips.

11 - When was the last time you visited a zoo or aquarium? What are your favourite animals to see there? >> I think the last time was Labor Day in 2019? The red pandas were pretty novel. I don’t think I have a favourite animal overall, though.

12 - Have you ever bought or sold anything via Facebook? >> No. This just reminded me to check on whether the Buy Nothing group in my city approved my membership, but apparently they did not, and that really confuses me, because... like, I live in the city. Why can’t I join the Buy Nothing group? This sort of thing is so distressing to me, I just... wanted to do a little community participation. :/ 

13 - When was the last time you had to cross a railway line? Was it an automated crossing or a manual one? >> I mean, we cross train tracks whenever we head downtown.

14 - What was the last thing you received as a gift? >> The gift from Sparrow’s parents that was late to arriving, which I got yesterday. It was a wine mulling kit.

15 - Are you a fan of cheese? What are your favourite types? >> I mean, I like cheese. I don’t know if I’d go so far to call myself a fan, though. I like pepper jack, brie, Kerrygold swiss, etc.

16 - What’s your “go-to” hairstyle when you’re feeling lazy or in a rush? >> ---

17 - How do you travel to work or school? Would you rather get there in a different way if you had the choice? >> ---

18 - What was the last activity you did that caused you to be out of breath? >> I don’t remember.

19 - When was the last time you changed your bedsheets? >> About a half hour ago, because they’d just been washed.

20 - What household chore do you hate the most? Are there any you actually enjoy or find satisfying in any way? >> Any “wet” chore -- so, most of the ones in the kitchen and all of the ones in the bathroom. I don’t mind vacuuming/sweeping, dusting, or laundry (I especially like the folding), and I love to tidy up and put things back where they belong.

21 - How much money did you spend the last time you went to the supermarket? >> I, personally, didn’t spend any, but the total grocery bill this weekend was about $170.

22 - How often do you buy fast food or takeaways? What’s your favourite place to get those foods from? >> Not often.

23 - Do you prefer white, brown or granary bread? What other types of bread do you like to eat? >> I’m not sure what granary bread is, but generally I’m not too precious about the type of bread. I’m far more precious about where the bread comes from (locally-made versus mass-produced).

24 - Are you in any kind of pain right now? What’s causing it? >> I wouldn’t say that. I mean, being tired and melancholy can be a bit painful at times, but... yeah.

25 - Can you hear anyone else in your house right now? What are they up to? >> Sparrow is having a shower. IDK what the cat is doing.

26 - Do you find farts funny or gross? >> Neither? They’re completely unremarkable to me, unless someone’s farting a tune or something, which I guess is novel enough.

27 - What are you wearing at the moment? Is anything you’re wearing new? >> Sweats, undershirt, hoodie. My winter uniform. Nothing I’m wearing is new.

28 - Who was the last person you spoke to via social media? Is this a person you’re close to? >> I don’t remember.

29 - Did you ever do surveys on a site other than Tumblr? Do you still take surveys anywhere else? >> Yeah, I was on Xanga for a long time. I had a brief fling with LiveJournal after Xanga went the way it did but ultimately settled on just posting them here.

30 - Are you overweight, underweight or a healthy weight for your height? Are you happy with that or would you like to change it? >> I don’t know which one I am and I’d rather not make a fuss about it.

Christmas Morning

A Soft Xmas morning fic with Sledge and Snafu for my friend @peachessir! Thank you for the prompt, and I hope this fic makes your day better!!

For reference, this is set as like, their second holiday back home after the war. So they’ve got a routine kind of, but home still doesn’t necessarily feel like home yet. Written sort of out of my other hc where I have them in Maryland for a bit after the war,in this one they are already in Mobile, having taken over Eugene’s parents old house as their home, his parents have a new house elsewhere in town. Still keeping all their pets though because...well, I want to lol. 

Okay, that bit of housekeeping done, below the cut is the fic!

The bed was shaking, violently, as he woke. 

“Get your ass up, we got presents to open!” 

Eugene attempted to mumble the thoughts in his head, from ‘but didn’t we open everything at my parent’s house last night?’ to ‘is four o’clock in the fucking morning??’, but was too half-asleep to manage it as Snafu helped him downstairs, the cats and dog traipsing after them, meowing and barking for an early breakfast. 

“Okay kids, simmer! Lemme get your papa sat down here and then I’ll get you fed, let you outside for a bit,” Snafu soothed as he led Eugene to the couch near their Christmas tree. 

He blinked to try and wake up as Snafu went off to tend the children, and looked to the tree. 

Presents. Why were there more presents? Not many, only four actually, but they’d taken everything they’d bought for each other over to his parent’s last night, to be opened on Christmas Eve. Today, Christmas Day, was their recovery day after having been around family so much. 

“You ready?” Snafu dropped onto the couch beside him, nearly in his lap. 

“I think so? But where did those-” 

“You’ll see once you start opening,” Snafu interrupted, and went over the tree, nearly tripping on the edges of the too-long open bathrobe he wore over his pajamas. “Here, you go first.” 

Eugene barely caught the gaudily wrapped box., and read the tag. “To Sledgehammer from...Burgie? How the hell-” 

Snafu only smiled at him expectantly, so he tore into the paper and opened the box. 

Inside were two of the nicest crystal glasses he’d ever seen, engraved with their names, and a note: ‘I know you might not be able to have a church wedding, but y’all are essentially married now and deserve a nice wedding gift. My pa is the one who did the engraving, he wishes you all the best as well. When you two next come out to Texas, wrap these up and bring ‘em with, and we’ll have a toast to you both, and to being home. All my love, Burgie.’

“Next one’s for me, from one of the...” he sighed, and his voice shook just a bit. “From one of the boys I fought with in Gloucester. His mother sent it along this year, said it was meant for last but she...she wasn’t ready to send it yet. Guess he’d had her save some things, so he could send ‘em to us after we all got home.” 

Eugene carefully set the box with the glasses in the kitchen, away from where the cats liked to jump, and joined him on the floor near the tree, wrapping him in a gentle hug. 

“This asshole,” Snafu laughed, even as the tears dripped down his face. “Look.” 

He took the box from Snafu, and bit back a laugh. It was a set of poker chips, and a note: ‘Next time you can come around my neck of the woods, we’re gonna play again, and I’m gonna win this time. You just got lucky, last time. Can’t wait to see you again, Snafu.’

“Nah, you won buddy,” Snafu said softly, his eyes somewhere else as they filled again with tears, and he set the box near the tree. “He should have too, I really did just get lucky that game. God I miss him.” 

He held onto Snafu for the next few minutes, letting him sob and remember. He hadn’t gotten to meet this particular company member, but he wished he had. 

Snafu pulled away from him, and handed over another box. “Next one is for both of us, technically. But I want you to open it.” 

He took the light box, so light it seemed nothing would be in it, and opened it carefully. 

He nearly dropped it then, but held on with shaking hands. 

It was a letter. From Ack Ack, to both of them. Talking about how while neither of them had come straight out with how they felt about each other, he was glad they weren’t really hiding it otherwise, and he promised them safety, from other soldiers and anyone who might say anything to him about it. How he knew war was pain and loss and fear, but he was glad all the same it had brought them together, and he hoped they’d be happy together once they made it home, because he knew in his heart they would.

Snafu was crying again when he looked up from the letter. “Read it before I wrapped it. Burgie found it, and saved it when they were packing up Ack Ack’s things to send home. He sent it along with the glasses, and asked me to make sure it was a separate gift. Said Ack Ack would have wanted it that way.” 

They fell into each other’s arms again, openly weeping. It was a wound that they both knew would never fully heal, none of the losses would. But it was still so open and fresh now, that as wonderful as it was to have more of Ack Ack’s words, it almost hurt just as much, because he would never get to say them to them, never meet them in a city in the States for a drink and reminiscing. 

Once they’d both settled again, holding back the rest of the tears, pushing the hurt back down to where it usually sat, Snafu took the letter and walked to the desk in the corner of the living room. He pulled a frame from the drawer of it, and placed the letter in it. 

“Bought this for it as soon as I got Burgie’s stuff in the mail. Wanted to wait till you’d seen it too before putting it up somewhere though. Can you imagine what he’d say, if he knew we were hangin’ his letter up? He’d rag on us for ages,” Snafu sniffed, but smiled as he brought the letter back over, and settled it on one of the spare nails in the wall near the entrance of the living room that they’d not yet managed to fill. 

“He would,” Eugene managed a laugh, and though it hurt it felt good all the same. “Wish he could see it.” 

“Me too,” Snaf sighed, and went back to grab the last present. “You get to open this one too.” 

“This is from you,” Eugene smiled. “You already spoiled the hell outta me, what else did you possibly get me?” 

“Something that I didn’t have with me overseas, but that I wanted to give you. Part of courtin’ your cute ass, that I finally get to do, even though we’re past that.” 

The box was small, and gorgeously wrapped. How on earth Snafu had even found the paper, Eugene didn’t know. He notoriously hated the shops as it got close to the holiday, but all he could envision was Snafu having gone in specifically to find the blue and white paper, with artfully drawn snowflakes on it. He half-hated to tear it, but he was also curious as could be, and Snafu was clearly just as excited. 

He opened it carefully as he could, and opened the box. 

“Had my family in New Orleans send it to me. One of the only things I left there. Shoulda heard them on the phone, going on about how they knew I’d never give it to a girl like the other boys did. But I finally found the person who’s supposed to have it,” Snafu said. “It ain’t much, but-” 

Eugene interrupted him with a kiss, before returning to the box, which held Snafu’s ID bracelet. It had been and as far as he knew for some still was a common thing for a man to give to his girl, to show they were together and that it wasn’t a passing fling. And him and Snafu certainly were no passing fling. 

He put on the bracelet, then gave Snafu another kiss. “Be right back.” 

“Where are you goin’?” 

“Gimme a minute!” Eugene called back down as he found his bracelet, and jogged back downstairs, dodging the cats as they trotted by him. 

Snafu took the ID bracelet from him with a reverent look. “This...this is big. Everyone’ll know. I mean, I think most of ‘em know already in town or suspect and everybody’s kind enough to keep any thoughts to themselves, but-” 

The tears were back again, happy tears this time as Snafu put on the bracelet. 

“I know,” Eugene interrupted. “I know...we have to be careful. But most everyone knows us round here now, and we’ve been fine. So I want them to know now. If I’m gonna be wearing yours, I want you wearing mine, along with our rings, and I want everyone to know you’re mine and I’m yours.” 

It was half warm embrace, half tackle as Snafu climbed into his lap, nearly tipping him over with the enthusiasm of his movements, shrugging off his robe as he kissed Eugene like it was all he knew how to do. 

Eugene fussed with his own robe and pajama top, trying to get them off and tossed behind him to soften the hardwood floor somewhat as he lay back, pulling Snafu with him. 

In a few moments they were down to just their underwear and the bracelets and their rings, the jewelry glinting in the soft morning light from the sun just starting to rise, and Eugene thought if he would ever see an angel in his life, then it would look like Snafu did now. Warm and soft and transcendent, moaning every time Eugene ran his hands through his curls, sighing with every kiss, heated skin melting against his own. 

By the time they’d finally paused enough to toss aside their underwear, they were both too close for much more, Eugene knew that for sure. In the way Snafu rutted against him, whining sweetly, whispering love and admiration in his ear as he left hickeys on his neck. In the way he wanted nothing more than to come across Snafu’s stomach and to feel Snafu come on his, to reach that high together and lay in the heat of the moment after. 

He didn’t have to wait long for it, between their continued feverish kissing and roaming hands and the occasional nip on his chest and shoulder from Snafu (who loved nothing more than leaving marks and having marks left on him.) It was perfect in its timing, both of them coming within a moment of each other, Snafu moaning into his shoulder as his hips and cock crashed against Eugene’s, while Eugene used a hand to pull them as close together as he could. 

It was silent then. The cats and dog happy moving about the house on their own, no cars on the road outside. Just the sunlight streaming in, and their limbs intertwined as they came down together, kissing gently. It was another world, and Eugene never wanted to leave it, to look anywhere other than Snafu’s gorgeous eyes. 

For the next few minutes at least, he knew he didn’t have to. Snafu was clearly just as comfortable and enamored with the moment, smiling and running a hand through Eugene’s hair while the other pulled him near, though they were about as close as any two bodies could be. But it was never quite close enough for them, and if closer ever existed he knew they’d jump on it in a heartbeat. 

“This was a good Christmas, wasn’t it?” Snafu asked, breaking the silence. 

“It was,” Eugene sighed. “Know what I’m lookin’ forward to, though?” 

“Can’t be cleanin’ up what we just did,” Snafu smiled. “Only downside to doin’ anything down here. Least we had your robe down for part of this.” 

Eugene nodded. “True. But I’m lookin’ forward to havin’ more good Christmases like this with you.” 

“Me too,” Snafu replied, snuggling close. “You know we can’t fall asleep down here like this, right? I’m gonna get up in a minute, get us cleaned up.” 

“Sure,” Eugene chuckled as he wrapped an arm around Snafu, and watched Snafu’s eyes flutter shut, fighting to keep himself awake. “I’ll wake you in ten.” 

“Mmhm,” was Snafu’s only response as they snuggled amongst the torn wrapping paper in the sun, warm and happy.

Hey guess what I have....

I have two fully vaccinated kitty cats.

I took Horatio and Nebula to the low cost vet clinic this morning. They were way overdue. Tbh I'm not sure Ray has ever gotten his shots. I know. I'm a terrible cat owner. But I've been broke for so damn long and they never go out. But it still needed to be done.

I am so proud of them though. There were some kitty tears ngl. Nebula especially voiced her displeasure at being stuffed in a box in a car then being stuck outside surrounded by loud and nosy dogs. Ray mostly curled up in his crate and played If I Can't See You You Can't See Me. Poor guy.

There was one really old black lab named Ike who wanted to come over and sniff the cats. He was super calm about it and his owner told me that he has cats at home and can't stand to hear them cry and wanted too see if Nebula was okay. It was really sweet. Then there was a really young...idk kelpie maybe? Could of been a German shepherd idk. It was in a harness but its owner kept letting it stick its face in my cats' cages but not calmly like Ike. And she'd scold it but not put much effort into holding the dog back. Also the owner would not stfu the. Entire. Time. We. Were. There.

We finally got inside. The whole thing is a temporary clinic, so it’s just one room and they bring the animals in a few at a time. For the cats, they had me go into the bathroom so if they bolt, they won’t get far. The vet used the changing table as a makeshift exam table and had me pull them out one at a time. And guys....

They were GREAT. 

I figured they’d squirm or scratch or try to escape. I was seriously worried Ray would bite. But nope. They let me pull them out without a fight and sat there and got their shots without a bit of fuss. They even let her give them their dewormer, which is administered orally without any problems. 

We went back out into the room, and I’m not going to deny I felt a surge of pride knowing all three of my fur babies were so brave about getting their shots. Though I did wait until we got to the car to tell the cats how proud I was of them that they were braver than the kelpie that had been messing with them.

And they were calm as can be on the ride home. I think they were grateful to be away from all the dogs and people. I also expected them both to hide under the bed and hate me for hours, but no. Nebula snuggled with me on the bed, and Ray has stayed nearby. 

Gold Stars for both of them.

I am guilty of having quite a few high polycount hairs, but I don’t have much CC in general and my Macie seems to handle them well, even with an integrated video card, so all is well, but yeah, 30k is a liiiiiittle bit excessive.

I have a few really high-poly hairs (20+K), myself. My game/computer does seem to be able to handle them without a fuss. (I really don’t know WHY, since both the machine AND the video card are older models, but...Hey, I’m not gonna argue. :) ) Even so, the ones I have are special and unique and very fabulous in some way, and if I later find a similar just-as-nice but lower-poly style, I’ll ditch the high-poly one in a heartbeat.

Mostly, though, I stick to hairs that are ~10K polys or less. I’ll have as many of those as I want because I figure if my game can handle the 30K+ ones without issue, it can handle a bunch of 10Ks. I have fewer that are 10K-12K. 13K is generally (and arbitrarily) my hard limit unless the hair falls into the “unique and fabulous” category and, really, those are few and far between.

@digitalangels lowered the polycount on Aviary, I'm pretty sure

I wouldn’t be surprised if she has. But really? There are already plenty of quite similar hairs that look just as nice as that one and that have much lower polycounts. I’ll bet it’s one of those that has thousands of backfaces that don’t even show in the game. :\

That’s tempting, but the majority of the time spent on the “editing,” such as it is, is cropping the pics in the right place and to (more-or-less) the right size ratios. It’s never the same twice, so it couldn’t be automated.

(Confession: I had to Google “mouse recorder.” I mean, I could kind of tell what one would do from the name, but I doubted that such things actually existed. SURPRISE! :) )

I really know what you mean. My head is always bursting with a million different hood and story ideas but at the end of the day a lot of the time I just wanna play without thinking about editing pics after.

Yep, that’s me, too. I mean, I have (literally) about 1200 GilsCarburg pics to post. I mean, they wouldn’t all be posted because a good chunk of them are similar, where I took a lot of pics knowing I’d pick the best one of the bunch to post, but still...a lot. It’s going through them and making the posts that I drag my feet on sometimes. I kinda have to psych myself up to do it -- although once I start, I enjoy doing it, so it’s not a chore or anything :) -- and it’s easy to distract myself by, for instance, downloading a bunch of hairs for my Castaway game because I want to try my hand at making defaults for it.

Senpai XD tbh this is one of those things though, people actually PLAY the game AND make cc AND download stuff AND organise downloads folder/Tumblr posts. How do people have time for all of that??

I honestly don’t know how most people do it. For me, the answer’s easy: I’m mostly retired -- I’ll do paid gigs if I get bored and want to, but otherwise? Eh. -- and I don’t have to worry about money. And I have employees. That helps, too. Also, I have health issues that prevent me from doing a lot of things I’d LIKE to do. So, I do Sims-related stuff a lot. And go on a lot of dates with my husband, but he DOES work, so I can’t be doing stuff with him all the time. So, for now, unless/until I decide to do some kind of volunteering, I occupy a good chunk of my time with Sims stuff. And with hanging out with friends and whatnot, too, of course. But...Yeah, I don’t have a “normal” life. I don’t know how people who DO have a normal life manage to do all the Sims stuff they do.

@dramallamadingdang I feel like I should print this and place it up right next to my monitors for the next time I take the cc cleanup plunge. The flashing pink bug is real and has caught up to me, I also know its my own darn fault for having so much cc. My computer can handle it but my game can't, and this is the swift kick in the rear I needed to remind me of that.

Personally what works for me (since I love my sims 3 and 4 conversions and my pretty hairs) is playing with smaller lots as much as possible and going easy on the clutter

Yeah, it’s all a matter of prioritizing. You truly can’t have everything because “old game is old��� even if you personally own a supercomputer. So, you focus on what’s most important to you and sort of skimp on the other stuff. So if pretty hairs and conversions are your thing, OK, but you might have to sacrifice, yeah, large, heavily-landscaped lots and lots of deco-only clutter and/or a heavily-hood-decorated neighborhood. Or if you’re a person who doesn’t actually play the game and just does, say, decorating, you can have all the converted, high-poly/high-res shit your little heart desires because you don’t need the high-poly hairs and clothing or the neighborhood stuff. Or if you’re mostly a Sim-maker, you can have all the high-poly hairs with gigantic textures that you want because you don’t need anything else that taxes the game. 

And if you want to do everything...Then I say: Separate user accounts/different downloads folder for each purpose. So, if you wanna decorate, you load up the high-res conversions. You wanna make Sims, load up the high-poly hair. You wanna actually play...Don’t go batshit with the big stuff and you’ll generally be OK.  Conscious downloading is the way to go. Know what you’re putting in your downloads before you put it in there and make conscious, aware, informed decisions so you’re not surprised by any consequences (i.e pink flashing) that you experience..

My reply to this sort of thing is "Oo, this is short notice. We already have plans!" Even if those plans are to watch Netflix in our underwear. They are probably just doing the Christian thing by inviting you guys and they may not even care if you come (my sister is of the High and Mighty mindset and she invites out of "duty" but is always relieved with people can't come or cancel, lol).

You know, of anyone else, I’d believe this. But whenever we’ve turned down an invite, there’s always been tons of wheedling about it. So, either they’re really good actors or they really do want us there. I’m pretty sure it’s the latter, since entertaining and cooking big meals and all that is what the female half of the couple lives for, since aside from going to church, she’s stuck at home, homeschooling their 7 kids, ranging from infants to teens. (Which is another reason to avoid their house, as far as I’m concerned. I’m done with kids. I don’t hate them or anything, but I really don’t enjoy being around them. Especially not toddlers. I’m not even goo-goo for my own grandkids, so I don’t want to deal with anyone else’s kids anymore.)

It is! I think they could’ve done so much more with pet-to-pet interactions, personally. Like, cats and dogs sleeping in piles like they do IRL. Also, pets sleeping on beds with Sims. (I have the mod that enables that for children, but it would have been nice if that was possible for all Sims.) But at least that one interaction is cute. :)

Oh god House Hunters. What gets me is when they decide they don't want to buy "the perfect in every other way" house because the paint/wallpaper/carpet is hideous. I always yell at the TV "THOSE ARE EASY TO CHANGE YOU PRISSY IDIOT!" But we ditched cable TV a few years ago and I've never been happier. It's so much more relaxing to just watch what we want streaming, when we want, not bound to a show's schedule.

Yeah! I saw that, too! I was like, “You know what? There’s this thing called painting. And if you don’t want to do it yourself, there’re even people who you can pay to do it for you!” But when the realtor says something like that (with not NEARLY enough snark, IMO), they’ll say “Oh, we don’t want any big projects.” As if painting one room before there’s anything in it is a “big project.” Stupidity abounds!

And yeah, I’m much happier without squawk boxes around. The only remotely good thing about it is Cartoon Network. And some of the HGTV-type stuff is fun to watch, I suppose, if only to get ideas for my game. ;) But I much prefer no TV. I mean, yeah, I know no one forces anyone to turn it on, but we feel like we should watch SOMETHING since we’re paying through the nose for it. :p

house hunters international is hilarious because they always want to be in the center of whatever city, pay almost nothing in rent, and at least one person in the couple expects everything to be americanized. plus if they are asking for it to come furnished, they always complain about how its not their style or whatever. i just want to see the pretty scenery of the country youre lucky enough to be able move to. have you been able to guess which house theyll pick?

I can pretty much always tell the house they’ll pick because it’s usually the one that’s most like what the female half of the couple wants. Which is so stereotypical but...there it is.

And yeah, I watched an “International” one the other day. Some chick looking for a place to rent in Spain who was bitching about the lack of central air conditioning (In buildings older than America, that she said she WANTED to live in) and freaking out because -- OMG! -- the washing machine was installed in the (small) kitchen! Americans, SMH. Of course, she ended up in a new place with central air that was very American and also above her budget, but she justified that by saying she’d be more “comfortable” there. :p Moron. Why go live in another country if you just want to drag yours along with you? Isn’t that exactly what a certain sector of American citizens bitch about when it comes to immigrants? But what do American émigrés do? *sigh* Swear, most Americans just need to stay the hell in America because God forbid they deign to adapt to anything else. :p

It's funny that you mention House Hunters- it's playing on the tv in the other room. Sometimes I'll watch it when it's on just because I like to look inside other houses, though I agree with you about it being very safe-for-tv and every episode being the same.

I did actually see a gay couple on it the other day! Of course, they were a white, middle-aged well-off gay couple looking for a place in Palm Springs, CA, which is pretty much a place you can’t live in unless you’re LGBT (and well-off), but still! Gay people, OMG!

I did post the idea in the “Hacks & CC You’d Like To See” thread over there. It’s not a request thread, though, because MTS doesn’t allow requests. It’s more like an “I wish” thread, and a lot of the stuff wished-for IS impossible, but sometimes people have picked stuff out of the thread and actually done it, so...Well, it’s out there in the world. Of course, right after I posted it, a little argument broke out about something unrelated, so it quickly got buried, but maybe something’ll come of it. Who knows?

I was amazed to find out that Ginsu still exists. But yeah, those knives are way nicer than their 70s/80s ancestors. Which, yeah, probably means they won’t work half as well. :) Gimme my cheap plastic-handled bread knife made of God-knows-what ANY DAY!

1) Pretty sure internet packages try to include TV these days because the TV stations are paying them extra money to force it on people. 2) I say it the American way (never heard the English way in my memory) but I spell it with an H. There are almost as many different spellings as there are different Canadians, however. I've also seen yogourt, which is an odd one.

1) I’m pretty sure you’re right. I’m also pretty sure that most people do still want TV...although I’m pretty sure that, as time goes on, most people will prefer to stream what they want when they want it, so I think standard TV’s kind of on its way to dinosaur-hood. So perhaps one day it will no longer be forced on people. Probably won’t happen before I croak, though. :P 2) Yeah, @twofingerswhiskey reblogged with a pic of a yog(h)(o)urt container spelled “yogourt,” which is apparently how they spell it in Quebec (so I guess that’s how it’s spelled in France? Who knew?), which is apparently where most of y’all’s yog(h)(o)urt is made. :) Which is kinda weird, if you ask me. Why Quebec? Are there no dairy cows in Saskatchewan or Ontario or Alberta? :) I’ve seen dairy cows in BC, so I know they’re there...

Nope, never been there. I’m sorry to say that I avoid Texas as much as I can. No offense to you or to any other individual Texan out there, but...y’all have a lot of bombastic asshats amongst you. And y’all seem to elect sexist, grabby-hands asshats at an alarming rate, too. Whenever I’ve been in Texas, I’ve had bad experiences at the hands of those two groups. So...Yeah, not going there if I can possibly help it. THAT said, I know that the cities are generally better and I’d like to visit San Antonio one day -- and maybe Ft. Ok, but thinking about Mattsun and Makki being memes makes me wonder how they'd handle "chogiwa," "infires," "jimin you got no jams," and other such kpop memery (in the kpop au)

I do love a good kpop meme, and we all know that every group has that one (or two) member(s) that practically exist to be memes.

In HQ20, we have the masters of memes, Makki and Mattsun. These two actually aren’t always the memes themselves, but they are ride or die when it comes to turning everyone else into memes (Oikawa, Iwaizumi and Lev being number one victims of this), and that’s what makes them so important \ (>.

As to how they feel about memes from other groups? Well, I mean, they appreciate them, obviously, as they are always happy to see new memes being created in their beautiful industry, but I don’t think they really partake in them. Like, every group has their own memes, so they don’t really get involved in other group memes. But don’t think for one second they don’t use them as inspiration to fuel their own memery! 

For example, in one of the matsuhana vlogs, the two were discussing a fan question about whether they had a version of ‘Jimin you got no jams’ and they were saying it was annoying that they weren’t good enough at English to think of something, but then Iwaizumi speaks up from where he’s reading somewhere behind them “wouldn’t it be something like ‘Hina you got no hams.’” and, in sync, Makki and Mattsun yell “HINA YOU GOT NO HAMS!” and Hinata pops up from another room saying ‘what? but we have ham in the fridge.’ and after that ‘we have ham in the fridge’ became one of HQ20′s biggest memes.

Other HQ20 memery includes: 

“Oya oya oya? Oya oya oya.” (I mean, If you didn’t think this would be first on the list, you were very much mistaken) If Makki and Mattsun are the meme kings of HQ20, then Kuroo and Bokuto are the meme princes. The ‘oya’ meme came about in one of HQ20′s early vlogs when the two hyungs were tormenting maknae Tsukki and, after being perfectly polite, he finally snapped and used informal language to ask them to leave him alone and they responded with the classic ‘oya oya oya? oya oya oya.’ After that vlog, it became something of a catchphrase of the group whenever something unexpected happened, it would always be ‘oya oya oya? oya oya oya.’ It was possibly the first meme to go viral in the fandom and is still used by fans worldwide.

Sweet Dreams are Made of This! (why am I like this) So it’s no secret that HQ20 produce awesome music, and that’s why they are so well known, but one of the most loved things they produce for their fans is a crack series they have on youtube where they cover massive western hits from pre-2000 in Japanese or Korean (I will be writing more about this in a headcanon post that’s coming up). These videos are predominantly directed by Makki and Mattsun, and one of the most watched videos they have produced so far is a Japanese cover of Eurythmics, Sweet Dreams are Made of This, performed by Hina and Revo. Makki and Mattsun insisted on recreating the video as close to the original as possible, so that included cellos in a field, Hinata in a red dress, weird close-ups and a cow walking round a table. Overnight Sweet Dreams became one of their biggest memes, and the matsuhana duo have never been prouder.

“It doesn’t like you.” Probably the biggest kuroken meme, tbh. The meme was born from yet another vlog, where HQ20 members Kuroo and Kenma were out shopping and they came across a stray cat. The jet black cat immediately came up to Kenma and started purring and fussing around him, but when Kuroo (who likes to think of himself as the ‘King of Cats) tried to pet it, it started hissing and shying away. This happened a few times before Kuroo says “I don’t get it. Why won’t the kitty-cat talk to me?” and Kenma, with a completely deadpan expression, looked him dead in the eyes and said “it doesn’t like you.” at which point Kuroo fell dramatically on the floor pretending to be completely offended, clutching his heart. The video ends with the black cat then coming up to Kuroo, sitting its bum bang in the middle of his face, and looking up to Kenma for more attention, at which point Kenma kills the fandom by doing a rare tiny kitten laugh and saying “it really doesn’t like you.” (the smol boy knows how to wreck your bias)

Akaashi is Suffering™ (you knew this was going to be on here, don’t deny it) There are several fanmade (and a few made by Mattsun and Makki, probably) compilation videos of Akaashi in the background of videos looking 100% done with everything, normally while Bokuto and Kuroo do something ridiculous in the foreground. It’s gotten to the point now that Makki and Mattsun make videos where they secretly film Akaashi’s suffering and narrate it like a nature documentary: *zooms in on Akaashi asleep on the sofa with a towel over his face* “and here we see a tired Akaashi in his natural habitat, exhausted after an hour of overseeing the children” *camera pans to where Bokuto and Kuroo are lying on top of each other on the floor at Akaashi’s feet* “seeing an Akaashi like this is a very rare sight, but truly makes you question: who is the real hyung we are seeing here?” Alongside this, there are also the stories of what happens in the dorms (which you can read here) which truly show how much this boy has to put up with (poor Akaashi). 

“Negativity begone!” (I love this phrase too much) This is another saying that the fandom now use all the time. It was started by Suga, in a backstage vlog at one of their concerts, where the video camera, which was being operated by Hinata and Kageyama at the time, zoomed in on HQ20′s scaredy-cat, Asahi, getting nervous about the concert. The section of the vlog starts with Hinata approaching Asahi and saying “Asahi-hyung, how are you feeling about the concert today?” and Asahi replies with “The concert should be good. Unless of course the lights fall down, or I forget the dance moves, or…” he then proceeds to list all the things that could possibly go wrong, until Suga comes over saying “there it is! Negative Goatee!” then he hits Asahi in the stomach and shouts “Negativity begone!” After this vlog was released “Negativity begone!” was quickly picked up and turned into one of HQ20′s most supportive and wholesome memes. There was even a charity created by a fan that raised money to help people with anxiety and depression, and the it was called ‘Negativity begone!’ Suga was one of the first people to make a donation to this charity when the fan reached out to him. 

Scaredy-Asahi! Asahi is a bit of a meme in himself, bless him, but one of HQ20s ongoing memes is how terrified their resident Jesus is of everything. The videos are endless: Noya running and jumping off a low ledge, Asahi screaming “NOYA, NO!” in the backround; Kuroo and Bokuto coming up with a way to prank Yaku, Asahi’s “guys, I really think this is a bad idea.” “Boku, Jesus thinks this is a bad idea. Are you ready to go to hell with me?” “Bro, I’m already in hell with you.” *Asahi whimpers*; Tanaka and Noya doing a video to see who they can make jump in the group, they jump out at Asahi and he screams in such a high pitch only dogs can hear him; etc… It’s made 10x funnier by the fact that he looks like the oldest and scariest out of the group. 

“He’s a Lady Killer!” Problem children Tanaka and Noya are also a bit of a meme duo, though not quite as extensively as Makki & Mattsun and Bokuto & Kuroo (also most of their memes tend to be completely accidental, which isn’t always the case with the other four), although the biggest meme they’ve created probably goes to ‘He’s a Lady Killer!’ I mentioned it in Tanaka’s member profile, but this is the full story behind it. It came about where they were filming a prank vlog out on the streets where they would try and prank unsuspecting citizens, when a cute girl walking past dropped her purse. Tanaka picked it up and was like “should I run after her and give it back to her?” (super-nervous because he can’t actually talk to girls) and Noya was like “yeah, definitely! Go on man!” and then proceeded to hide and zoom in to film the whole exchange. It started off ok when Tanaka called out and got the girls attention, but then it took a turn for the worst when the girl started crying because she thought Tanaka was coming to kidnap her. Tanaka had to stutter his way through an explanation and practically threw the purse at her before running away in embarrassment. At the end of this exchange, Noya pans the camera round on himself and says to the camera, in broken English, “Ryu, everyone. He’s a real lady killer!” and thus the meme was born. 

“R YU READY?” (my puns are terrible) Another Tanaka based meme, this time created by the boy himself. It’s pretty much as terrible as it sounds: a fan made the mistake of telling him that his name ‘Ryu’ is a bit like the English ‘Are You’ and Tanaka decided that this fact was super cool, and started screaming at the beginning of concerts “R YU READY?” (after which he would pretty much immediately get hit by Suga, Yaku or Iwaizumi, or all three of them). It quickly spread through the fandom and became a meme, with plenty of video compilations and other such mockery. 

HQ20 Family Photos (otherwise known as ‘K the Rebel Child’). There are a lot of jokes that go round that HQ20 have the dynamic of a big family, with Daichi as their dad, Suga as their mum, Yaku as mum 2.0, Iwaizumi as the grumpy grandfather (which Oikawa jokes makes him the sweet and lovely grandmother, but he’s not old and wrinkly like Iwa-chan), Kuroo and Bokuto as the crazy uncles, Mattsun as the uncle that the kids love visiting because he can cook, Makki as the crazy aunt who’s constantly taking funny family videos, Akaashi as the overly tired (of your shit) aunt, Tanaka and Noya as the ‘cool’ older brothers, Kenma as the older brother that wants nothing to do with his clingy siblings, and the other 5 as the problem children. Of course this means that whenever they take big group photos, people joke that they are like family photos. The meme is in that Tsukishima always looks disappointed to be a member of the family. There are compilations of photos of him just looking like he’d rather be anywhere else than with his family (when asked about it in an interview, he said, with a completely dead-pan expression “well it’s no secret that I really would.” and people have avoided asking about it ever since). 

Hey, Hey, Hey! (Bokuto was born to meme) This meme is actually an old meme from O.W.L that got so famous that Bokuto ended up carrying with him to HQ20. It’s origins lie in a song that was released by O.W.L, called The Best, in which one of the chorus lyrics goes ‘I could be the best, Hey, Hey, Hey!’ and the fans made compilation videos that were just Bokuto’s part where he sings ‘Hey, Hey, Hey!’ and thus a meme was born (I guess that makes this kinda HQ20′s ‘chogiwa’ but idk). 

Hanger Tooru (one of the best extras Haikyuu have ever released, I could hardly leave it out) This is another famous meme that has come over from days before HQ20 was formed, this time carried from the Seijoh mem(e)bers, or, more specifically, Oikawa. It came about when once, when they were in Seijoh, Oikawa managed to put a shirt on with the clothes hanger still attached. Makki and Mattsun filmed the whole incident, including their commentary and Iwaizumi saying ‘this is the first time Oikawa has ever impressed me. I am speechless.’ and uploaded it for all the fans to see. It quickly went viral in the fandom, and people started using the nickname Makki had used in the video, ‘Hanger Tooru’. 

Ninjaashi. This meme is born of Akaashi’s light footedness, which allow him to sneak up on nearly anyone. There are compilation videos of the other members of the group freaking out when they suddenly realise he’s in the room with them. Nobody knows if Akaashi actually enjoys being able to sneak up on people as he never seems to laugh about it, but there are theories that he actually takes great pleasure in his super-power, else why would he film people being terrified by him? Iwaizumi, so far, has never been surprised by Akaashi, however, and nobody can work out why he has this immunity to Akaashi’s super-power (some people think it’s a conspiracy and the pair are actually working together, but nobody really knows). There’s more about this in Akaashi’s member profile, here. 

The only one that can hit me is Iwa-chan! and other Iwaoi related memes. These two are giant memes, largely supported by the meme team who ensure that every memeish thing these two do gets documented and put online for the world to see.  Some of their many memes include Oikawa continuously blocking Iwaizumi from the camera in vlogs and interviews (normally with a Peace sign, which Iwachan then knocks out the way), Oikawa saying ‘Iwa-chan’ compilation videos, Iwaizumi saying ‘Shittykawa/Crappykawa/ Kusokawa compilation videos, “Shit. I’m extra.” (the moment when, in one of their English vlogs where they answer western fan questions, Iwaizumi realised Oikawa wasn’t the only extra one in their relationship. See this post), “Iwa-chan, are you my mom?” *cue Iwaizumi looking terrifying enough that Oikawa apologises on the spot*, Iwaizumi hitting Oikawa compilation videos (including a video that Makki and Mattsun put together where it starts with Oikawa looking at the camera and saying “the only one that can hit me is Iwa-chan!” and then immediately shows a compilation of all the times Iwaizumi has hit Oikawa and Oikawa screaming), and other such memery. The fandom lives for the memes produced from these two. 

“Hinata, Boke!” Much like the Iwaizumi saying Shittykawa compilation videos, there are also, unsurprisingly, plenty of compilations of Kageyama saying “Hinata, Boke!” One talented fan even put this compilation to music and created the ‘Hinata, Boke! Song’, which was subsequently found by the other HQ20 members (read: Makki and Mattsun) who now sing it to Kageyama all the time to annoy him. There is another Hinata, Boke! meme, however, which is to do with Kageyama’s weird sleeping habits which I specified in this post.

“GET THE MILK!” It’s no secret to any HQ20 fan that Kageyama loves milk (it could be a meme in itself, tbh), but the meme of “GET THE MILK” was started in another vlog video, in which Hinata pranked Kageyama by hiding all the milk in the house before Kageyama woke up (it was mentioned in an interview once that apparently when he wakes up the first thing he does is drink milk, otherwise he will be in a bad mood). In the video, Kageyama wakes up and goes straight to the first fridge. When he finds no milk there he goes to the second fridge. Finding no milk there either, he begins to realise something is up. Then Hinata gives away his hiding place by giggling a little and Kageyama immediately realises what’s happened. He turns on the chibi-chan, screaming “HINATA, I’LL KILL YOU!” and Hinata, fearing for his life, runs out of the room screaming to god knows who “GET THE MILK! OR I’M GONNA DIE!” The video then cuts to black as Kageyama tackles Hinata to the floor. When it comes back up, Kageyama is sitting there drinking milk and looking furious and Hinata, who looks like he just got beat up, sheepishly rubs the back of his neck and says “well, I guess that didn’t go to plan.” After that fans fell for the phrase “GET THE MILK!” and it became another big HQ20 meme. 

“Gomen, Tsukki!” This is another wholesome meme, because sunshines like Suga and Yamaguchi couldn’t provide us with anything less. It’s pretty much along the same lines as ‘Shittykawa’, ‘Iwa-chan’ and ‘Hinata, Boke!’, in that it’s just something that fans noticed Yamaguchi saying a lot. They jokingly call it the ‘sweet younger sister’ to all the other insults. As with the others, there are a number of compilation videos of Suta saying “Gomen, Tsukki!” and fans think it’s adorable. 

Rev. Another name meme! I mentioned it in Lev’s member profile, and it basically came about through the struggles of the pronunciation of the letter ‘L’. The Japanese members, especially, struggled to pronounce ‘Lev’ and there are videos of interviewers and even sometimes the members themselves referring to him as ‘Rev’. Before he decided on the stage name ‘Revo’, there were also a number of printing errors where his name was written down as ‘Rev’. So, of course, it stuck and became a meme, as these things often do. 

“Is your arm stuck or your Elbow?” The final meme I will mention here (because I didn’t realise how long this had gotten!) is yet another terrible pun. This time we are back to the meme princes, Bokuto and Kuroo, and their misadventures. It, again, sprouted from a vlog, in which Kuroo challenged Bokuto to reach up into a vending machine and get some candy out. Of course, as Akaashi had probably predicted, Bokuto got his arm stuck. But when he cried out that his arm was stuck, instead of helping, Kuroo just burst out laughing. That’s when Akaashi wanders in to the scene and realises that Bokuto’s arm is stuck and stops. Bokuto cries out “Akaashi! At last, someone who will help me!” But Akaashi just looks at him contemplatively and mutters “there’s a joke in here about Elbow and El-Bo (Bokuto’s stage name) somewhere.” And Kuroo, who is dying of laughter on the floor just cries out “Is your arm stuck or your Elbow?!” And Bokuto, stuck in a vending machine cries out  “NOW IS NOT THE TIME FOR ELBOW JOKES!” before the video zooms in on a very rare Akaashi smile before cutting to black. Of course, there are so so many Elbow/El-Bo jokes made by the members of HQ20 and fans alike, but “Is your arm stuck or your Elbow?” is probably the most famous.

Eye color: Grey-green (mostly grey tinged with green)

Hair color: Rich auburn with a copper sheen (more copper than the picture above). She’s pretty vain about her hair.

Scars: In ME1, a scar through her left eyebrow from falling out of a tree and a faint bite-mark on the back of her hand (from during the Mindoir raid). In ME2, the Lazarus scars are short-lived. After that, Cerberus’ implants keep her scar-free. She’s actually really disturbed by it.

Burns: After the events of ME3, but her implants eventually take care of these, too.

Overweight: No. She’s a willowy hourglass who looks far more fragile than she is. She’s very strong, but the muscle is lean.

What’s your favourite song(s) to sing/hum? Right now I’d say I’m still constantly jamming to Red Flavour, the song is so damn great, I can’t believe Red Velvet saved summed and 2017 and the universe tbh. Though also ‘Sea’ by Golden Child is such a bop. I’m also singing ‘Clap’ by Seventeen a lot, ‘Crazy Sexy Cool’ by Astro, ‘You In Me’ by KARD and ‘Peek-A-Boo’ by my LGBT Coven Queens, Red Velvet. They’re the stages I’m following atm so singing the songs comes with that!

What’s your favourite flower/tree/plant (all 3 or whatever you have the answer to)? I always struggle to pick a favourite flower, honestly, because I feel like I don’t really know enough flowers to make a proper decision? Though I do love Blossom trees, cherry or peach are very pretty.

Favourite colours? I like most colours, honestly, and I like them in both light and dark shades too. I am really liking pastels at the moment though; pinks, blues, greens and purples.

What do you always doodle (if you ever do)? People, usually. I tend to just doodle random characters or just play around with colours.

How do you take your coffee/tea? I don’t drink coffee but adore tea! I have my tea very sweet, very milky, but also brewed for no shorter time than 10 minutes- even though I add a lot of milk I like to get some of the flavour through, otherwise you might as well just have warm milk.

Favourite candle scent? This is a tricky one because, honestly, I don’t light candles. I really like the idea but I just have never really done it so I couldn’t say what my favourite scent was, I can’t even remember the last time I smelt a candle.

What’s your go to dance move when you’re alone? I don’t really dance? I tend to listen to music aloud when I’m cooking so I don’t dance as I might throw an odd twirl in as I walk around the kitchen.

Favourite quote? Just one? Hahahahahaha. I have so many, I’m not sure how I’d ever narrow it down, I read a lot so I could probably pull favourite quotes from every book I’ve read.

Honestly, I’m not sure I do anything in particular I’d consider ‘self-care’, at least not anything that I don’t think everyone does anyway? I guess I enjoy baths but, that’s just washing :’)

Childhood started off as a dream for Alice. Being close with both of her parents, and spending most of her time learning trades from them, she felt like she floating on cloud nine. Having a little sister like Pandora made Alice even happier than she could ever imagine. Growing up in Galway with all the life around them, the world was theirs. The girl was so effervescent, that people were drawn to her light, to her kindness, to her free-spirited nature. Alice had always been particularly close with her dad who brought back souvenirs from his missions as an Auror, and the world around her, the unknown was something she wanted to discover. When her was dad away on missions, her mom would instill these ideals in her on how to be a kid, lifeskills, just fun things about magic, playing in the garden, things for the soul. When her dad came back her mom stepped back while he taught Alice how to do martial arts, how to hold a wand properly, how to wand formations, about history, everything she could know. What her father did though, Alice started asking question after question until she was absolutely convinced that being an Auror was now her calling as well – all at the age of five. Alice was a naturally kind child, and the reason she was so drawn to the profession of being an Auror is because it was driving some sort of darkness away. It wasn’t just her who wanted that goal either because other people wanted to be Aurors as well – she was part of something bigger than herself.

Alice wasn’t alone in thinking her dreams were wonderful and that’s what made her parent’s relationship beautiful, how they balanced each other out, wanted the same things even if they were different. Alice is still pureblood and from a wealthy family, she still had privilege, even if she is a known blood traitor but she valued this concept greatly. Everyone in her family did. Together they were this perfect, balanced family unit up until the age of nine until everything fell apart. At age eight, when her mother announced she was pregnant, Alice was over the moon, until something went wrong. When her little brother was born, he was a stillborn, and it devastated both of her parents. While her father was able to move on from the loss, her mother withdrew from her daughters & husband, staying in her room, and separating herself from them. Alice tried everything she did to help, to get through to her mother, but there was nothing she could do. Alice knew they had to move forward, that she couldn’t be like her mother, and had to be there for her younger sister to continue on. 

After her mom’s stillborn child is when Alice really had to learn to have the emotional & mental capacity to learn to take care of herself, to deal with her emotions, and soon she felt obliged to take care of her mom.  Alice & Pandora were their surviving children, who were spoiled rotten, and never had to go through anything relatively traumatic until there was this one gigantic thing where it was either – they soothed themselves or they fell apart. Alice would not fall apart, so she internalized it all and felt like she had to shoulder all of the burden of balancing out the household when her dad decided to go on more missions while her mom withdrew for those two years ( and for many years after ) before she went to Hogwarts. It still was never perfect but it was the best a 10 year old could do, and really, it wasn’t what a ten year old should’ve been doing at all. For both her and her sister, Florean’s became an escape and a safe haven. When her dad was there, it was like walking on eggshells, which is why there was so much time spent outside the house, but Alice got a break. A well deserved break where she was allowed to focus on herself, where she forced herself to, almost as if she was recharging her battery. When it was just Alice, Pandora and they mom, she paid almost all the attention she could feeling the pressure pile on top of her, while still furthering her own goals as an escape. Soon, Alice became an escapist, literally in some senses, to survive living there – something that has lasted well throughout her teen years. Before, when Alice’s goals and dreams were often talked about in passing as just a common topic, were now taboo. She had to force her dreams inward, she had to keep going and motivate herself when it was just her, Pandora and her mother. Her sister was her guiding light, a reason she stayed so anchored & so balanced. A reason she kept moving forward. Her ambition, her wanting to become an Auror anchors her, and while she doesn’t know if she can always depend on herself – Alice always knows she can depend on being an Auror. Just as Doctors can depend on the fact that there will always be sick people, Alice can depend on the fact that people die, people change, there’s always a Dark Wizard lurking around every corner & that the war is tearing apart people’s lives every day – it’s the ugly truth.

When she got to Hogwarts, there was a part of her that was surprised that she was put into Slytherin. Even if Alice did fit into the house like a glove, knew that her ambition to be an Auror was probably the reason she was placed in it the first place, the other houses like Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw appealed to her. The first year away from her sister, Alice wrote her almost ever day and cried weekly when she was away from her sister worried that she’d feel the same burden of living with their mom that she did. Worried that Pandora would need more help than she could get ( though, Pandora was PERFECTLY functional & on top of things, it was all anxiety that consumed Alice ). She found herself spending more and more time with Ravenclaws & Hufflepuffs, which cultivated more of an open-mind, and while she did well in school, Alice often daydreamed quite a lot. On occasion even used recreational drugs like pot ( & LSD ), because she just had to experience everything – the world was so big, so vast, and although there were some parts – mainly the blood prejudice she witnessed – that were ugly, the rest was so fantastic.

Is a dog person over a cat person, literally loves dogs so much and has been trying to get Hogwarts to let her dog in.

Sees the good in people because she believes that a lot of people can be better than they actually are being, especially in her house. Will often challenge people gently around her.

Also likes to fuck w/ people who are blood prejudice by being extremely calm w/ them. Unless you threaten her friends/call them slurs. More often then not Alice will just calmly fight the bigoted logic and has to really REALLY try hard not to punch them in the face

Dyes her hair different colors and is ETERNALLY unhappy with her hair. She’s always fussing around with it, always changing it and doesn’t know what to do with it. Alice’s natural hair color is a really dusty blonde, I’d even say a dirty blonde. She really loves to experiment with it though, so she’ll cut it and dye it all sorts of colors - from neon green to brown. From a pixie cut down below her waist. Anything and everything. Sometimes, in an attempt to just get out of her own head and escape for a bit, cutting & coloring her hair is fun and gives her some of a respite. She knows it’s just hair and it’ll easily grow back with a hair potion and just does it as a way to cope with not feeling completely comfortable in her appearance. She also does ridiculous makeup, sometimes adorning very shimmery glitter all across her eyelids and wearing funky socks that don’t always match her uniform. Sometimes she prefers to wear pants instead of a skirt, and puts pins of all sorts up and down her tie. Alice also owns an extensive sunglasses collection that she tries to wear on weekends or just times when she’s outside & the sun is out. In more modern times or times where she’d have access to more knowledge about the LGBT/queer community, she’d identify as non-binary but at the moment she’s very in the dark and just believes it to be her being very self conscious. I could see if she was introduced to this knowledge and educated, she’d be able to self identify as she’s already aware that she’s not straight at all, but until then she’s sort of in the dark. It would be a lovely thing to see though as the RP progresses if someone could educate her or point her in the right direction!

Is very underestimated I imagine?? And definitely lets her own skill speak for itself ( unless you piss her off she’ll occasionally talk a big game lmfao ), but until the second half of this year was much more free spirited and now is very much stressed and just much more serious.

(i do have a relatively high tolerance so i have to say though, at that level, spicy food gives me pretty serious appetite and digestion problems that persist for 1-3 days so i’d rather not over do it on spiciness...) i’m also picky about how the spiciness is achieved - various peppers have their own flavours and aren’t just BURNy and i do Not like jalapenos. they taste vaguely vinegar-y and acidity to me. no thanks. 

20. halloween/samhain or solstice/yule/christmas: er, halloween isn’t a thing here (aside from the commercialised version of it, which can die in a ditch). next weekend is fastelavn though, which i love. (i probably even love it more than christmas because my family usually gets together for buns, and it’s low-key and no-stress with zero expectations or anything, which is great. also buns.) i’m trying to figure out if i can be arsed making buns in the tiny shitty kitchenette here or if i just shouldn’t bother because i’d be eating them alone anyway

i actually actively hated the first two pj books. i vaguely started liking the series at the labyrinth book (book three? four? idk) but that has more to do with my thing for labyrinths than anything else (and iirc the labyrinth wasn’t even that well executed in the book? it’s been a while, i don’t remember. or care. but just. labyrinths as devices are fucking awesome.) i liked nico when he was introduced, who was like a little angry gay baby, or something, i wanted to protect him. (when i later found out that he is actually gay and i wasn’t just projecting, it made me happy), and if iirc i liked the last book of the first series. i haven’t read anything else, because i just...can’t be arsed. sorry. i mean, i do kind of want to know how my little gay son nico is doing, but do i want to sit through another five books or so of frankly mediocre writing to find out? no i don’t.

40. physical book or kindle? both, except i don’t own a kindle and never will. i have an ipad. it does have the kindle app on it, for the rare occasions all i can get is a .mobi file, but i actually prefer to buy my ebooks off Kobo because they are not amazon (their reading app is also great! i like it so much better than the kindle app) or directly from the publisher (in which case i’ll open the .epub in the ibooks app already on the ipad). the ibooks app is p great as is as well, i can’t complain. i also have a bluefire reader for DRM protected ebooks (mostly relevant while i was still at uni and would download time sensitive and DRM protected academic articles and books from databases with restricted access) and an account with Bookmate (digital library).

paperbacks are easier on my eyes, especially in the evenings, but i have about 100 books on my ipad at the moment and i really, really appreciate that given that i currently don’t have space for that many physical books.

41. fantastic beasts or cursed child: are we talking fantastic beasts the book or the movie? because i don’t think i’ve read the book. i’m pretty sure i don’t even own a copy. i also haven’t read the screenplay for the movie. the movie was ok. i had a few big problems with aspects of it, but others were p cool. as for cursed child i haven’t read it and will likely never get the chance to see it either. 

42. rock or pop music: both? sort of ? i have a wide but picky taste in music, across several genres and subgenres of pop, rock and metal. but i wouldn’t say that i like a whole genre...because there’s so much i don’t like. <.<

43. big cities or small towns: both tbh. i come from a small town (less than 4k inhabitants) and i’ve lived most of my life in small towns and in the countryside. i like it, it’s quiet and there’s a different community feel that you don’t get in larger cities. but i’ve also lived in copenhagen for the past 7 years or so, and i’ve come to depend on a lot of big city conveniences. i’ve bought a flat in copenhagen as well, because lbr with my degree my job options are in the big cities, not in the countryside, so...

i love finnish a lot because it’s a very systematic language (everything follows a rule, with very few exceptions), and because the logic of it is very spatial, if you can put it that way. the way finnish phrases a lot of things is by placing it in some kind of spatial context. it’s very logical to me, someone who’s very spatially and visually oriented in general, so it’s something that i just instantly understood and loved about the language (meanwhile my classmates were struggling because the finnish “way of thinking” is fundamentally so very different from the way scandinavian (and, i’d say, germanic) languages think.) and also i love it because i love grammar and finnish has so much of it, and so many exciting constructions and shit, it’s great.

30. How long does it take you to get ready? Depends how tired I am. If I get pretty good sleep it takes maybe 10 minutes at most.
