Veronica Mars is referenced in the Buffy comics and Buffy is referenced in the Veronica Mars movie so canonically Buffy had Veronica and Veronica had Buffy and Logan and Veronica watched Spike and Buffy together and vice versa probably going hey look it’s us! And that is just DEEPLY special to me

The TV revival is an extremely tricky thing to get right because whether or not the original run of episodes ended how the showrunners intended, there's no guarantee of recapturing the lightning-in-a-bottle magic of that initial go-around.
Worse still, perhaps, is when a revived show ruins a previously beloved character, either by drastically altering their characterization, wringing them through a woeful subplot, killing them off, or, get this, maybe even resurrecting them unnecessarily.
These 10 TV revivals all made major missteps with vital characters, usually through careless writing but also occasionally due to some unfortunate timing in relation to real-world events.
Whatever the cause, and regardless of how it affected the show as a whole, these characters were seemingly tainted forever more in their belated returns to the small screen...
1. Logan Echolls - Veronica Mars
Tumblr media
Veronica Mars' fourth season endured a far shakier response from the famously passionate fanbase, who took particular umbrage with the events of the season finale.
The finale features the dramatic death of Veronica's (Kristen Bell) husband Logan Echolls (Jason Dohring), who is killed in an explosion set by the season's antagonist just as the two are planning to set off on their honeymoon.
To many fans, it felt like creator Rob Thomas sticking a middle finger up at the audience, to deny Veronica a happy ending by killing off her love interest since the very first season for sheer shock value.
Some even deemed it egregious enough to not only ruined Logan as a character but the entire dramatic through-line of the show itself. And given that the season only existed due to the success of the 2014 crowd-funded film, fan outrage was especially ferocious. It obviously remains to be seen how a potential fifth season may follow Logan's death, but for some, it was enough of a dramatic misstep to taint the whole series.

When you make a movie or limited series to try to reboot a beloved TV show, it should have an ending that leaves the audience feeling good. It should not:
Undo all the progress/growth you leave the characters with at the end of the original show
Brush over questions that clearly should have been dealt with in the interim space but aren’t because the writers haven’t put the time or energy into them
Kill off fan favourites for shock factor
Treat the end of your movie/limited series like a season finale that is expected to continue with cliffhangers
It should be a gift to the fans who stuck it out with you, and who in turn may very well rally around your cause and spark new interest in a reboot. It shouldn’t be a big middle finger to us.

Media I enjoy with similar vibes
1. Cynical satirical comedies/dramedies in which selfish people do bad things and no one gets a particularly happy ending:
Veep, Succession, Bojack Horseman, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Arrested Development
2. The horrors of girlhood and homoerotic female friendships with vaguely supernatural happenings:
Yellowjackets, Jennifer’s Body, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Heathers, Veronica Mars (VM and Heathers aren’t supernatural per se, but there is some “dead girl haunting the narrative” ghost action so I’ll count it)
3. Strange things happen in the Pacific Northwest:
Yellowjackets, Gravity Falls, The X Files, Twin Peaks
4. Tragic doomed romance in period pieces:
Titanic, Dead Poets Society, Romeo and Juliet, Swan Lake, The Phantom of the Opera, Portrait of a Lady on Fire, Maurice, Brokeback Mountain
5. Bittersweet coming of age story set at an all-boy’s boarding school in the twentieth century where a teacher changes the course of a student’s life for the better but is fired by the corrupt school administration at the end of the story:
Dead Poets Society, The Holdovers (I’d have two nickels, which isn’t a lot, but it’s weird that it happened twice, right?)

i don’t think anyone understands logan and veronica like i do, they say logan is toxic and bad and ok he may be! but you think veronica doesn’t like it? you don’t think she’s worse??????????? it’s one of the things that attracts her actually, it’s like what logan said when he beat the shit out of piz (not saying it was right, it was very bad and uncool) that he took justice it’s the rule that they live by. that veronica lives by. and the end of the season 3 just resume everything, she smiling at him after he beat another guy… that’s kind of their connection, a lot of history and a lot in common.

Um so I just watched all of Panic (2021) and I knew damn well this show was already cancelled when I watched it but GOD I’m still upset about it. It’s actually really good! I am coming from a place of loving “teen dark drama mystery” type shows but this one was actually really well done!
If you also like that sort of genre I highly suggest watching it

Welcome to the Queer Mystery Character Tournament
The tournament:
The mystery, thriller, and horror genres have long been associated with queer themes. From the early homoeroticism of classic detective media, to the golden age of horror ushered in largely by gay men; from the popularity of anime mystery series with closeted youth to the more explicitly queer webcomics gaining a cult following, generations of queers have enjoyed representation through these genres. To celebrate these genres and their popularity, I, Mercury (host of this-is-a-podcast-fanblog) have created this bracket tournament to duke it out for coveted title of best character. This is just for sillies and fun so keep it positive!
The rules:
Submissions are now open so I can source characters for the bracket. Here are the rules for submissions:
The character must be from detective, horror, or thriller media that in some way involves a mystery. If the work is horror or thriller but doesn't contain a mystery it will be accepted. For example, characters from Scream will be accepted because there is a mystery of who Ghostface is, but characters from The Texas Chainsaw Massacre will not be accepted because there is no mystery aspect.
If the character is not canonically queer, explain your head canon and what identity you think they are.
Submissions should be structured by name, media, identity, and any other facts you want to include. For example: "Benoit Blanc, Knives Out, canonically a gay man."
You don't have to submit a picture but it would be nice if you did to make my job easier!
No real people or true crime, please.
Don't even THINK about submitting BBC Sherlock! You can submit other forms of Sherlock Holmes media but if you submit BBC Sherlock we will all point and laugh at you (I am a Tumblr veteran and was here for all that nonsense. Never again.)
The brackets:
I will give each character a seed number based on how many times they've submitted, basketball style. If anyone has more experience making brackets and would like to offer their advice I'm all ears. ;D
And that's it! Please reblog and tag your favorite fandoms, and start submitting!
