thinking about haladriel. thinking about heroines and villains and the insistence that love in stories is only love if it is virtuous and selfless, and therefore the villain can never love the heroine because of all the reasons he is a villain in the first place.

hate to break it to you, but love that is plagued, hounded, and haunted is still love. love that is obsessive, cruel, and selfish is still love. at some point, you have to face the fact that stories are not crafted to reinforce a neat, overarching set of morals. once you accept that fact, you'll find love exists in deeply interesting places--like in the flaws and complexities that make a character compelling.

Underrated reason why Lyanna as the KotLT just works is because it follows a pattern of deconstruction re the concept of knightly chivalry and honor, from Lyanna herself to her son 15yrs+ later. Lyanna as the KotLT is a gender-swapped version of the ‘knight rescues a helpless maiden from raucous bullies’ trope, but grrm of course puts his spin on it because one Lyanna is not even a knight to begin with and two, she’s a girl. Then knight!Lyanna fights the bullies which is again an adaptation of another trope: the ‘mysterious knight-errant enters the joust and wins then dips’, which is interesting because these types of knights sometimes fall into the black knight trope. And the black knight is, more often than not, not the hero. But the main reason why this is so interesting is Jon. Lyanna “cosplays” a black knight, but her son Jon later becomes an actual black knight. Jon then repeats his mother’s actions by defending Sam in AGoT, which is another subversion of the aforementioned ‘knight rescues a helpless maiden trope’ because the helpless maiden in this case is a helpless…lad…Though Jon and Lyanna acting as agents outside the bounds of knighthood (Lyanna being a northern woman and Jon being a member of the NW) puts them more in line with the traditional black knight (who is usually an anti-hero/villain), the actual essence of their actions puts them closer to the more valiant and honorable white knight according to tradition.

TLT fans: did you guys know about the real Wake? I hadn't heard about her until we covered World War II in my world civ class this semester

Nancy Grace Augusta Wake (1912-2011) was a covert operative who was at the top of the Nazi's most wanted list in WW2, nicknamed "The White Mouse" for her ability to repeatedly evade capture. She was born in New Zealand with Māori heritage, grew up in Australia, and joined the Resistance after traveling to Europe and witnessing the harsh treatment of Jews in Vienna by the Nazis

Wake worked in the Pat O'Leary Line escape network until her Resistance organization was compromised by the Germans in 1942. After that she fled on foot across the Pyrenees—with several close calls that she escaped by flirting with German soldiers—and made her way to England to join the Special Operations Executive. She was part of a three person team codenamed "Freelance" which parachuted into occupied France. During this operation she got stuck in a tree after her parachute became tangled in its branches. The local Resistance leader who found her reportedly said “I hope that all the trees in France bear such beautiful fruit this year" to which she replied "Cut out that French bullshit and get me out of this tree"

While working in the Freelance operation Wake once biked 500 km (310 mi) without stopping in the span of 72 hours across Nazi territory to retrieve a new radio and codes after her team's were destroyed in a Gestapo raid. Without this feat, Freelance would not have been able to communicate with London and there would have been no more supply drops to support their Resistance organization. During the war she was also part of a raid which destroyed the Gestapo headquarters in Montluçon, in which she reportedly killed a Nazi sentry with her bare hands to prevent him from raising an alarm

Wake's fellow operatives described her as "a real Australian bombshell. Tremendous vitality, flashing eyes. Everything she did, she did well. She was an excellent shot, excelled at fieldcraft and put the men to shame by her cheerful spirit and strength of character." "She is the most feminine woman I know until the fighting starts. okay y’all my curling season starts up again soon so in honour I present you:

so, Team Valiant is a Curling team that’s finally made it to the finals (finals for what, you may ask. I have no idea. I live in an isolated town in the middle of arctic Canada, I have no idea how sporting events work). The only problem is she has to move 3,000 miles away. Here’s the “blurb” I came up with:

Team Valiant has finally made it to the finals, and Sophie Foster couldn’t be more thrilled. Well, except for the fact that she has to move 3,000 miles away. Oh well. At least she has her team with her. And it could be a lot worse, really.

So, Team Valiant’s positions: Sophie would be third. I know that she’s the “leader” of Team Valiant and should therefore be the coach, but hear me out: I play as third and I’m 100% projecting onto Sophie.

Biana would be skip (ik the team name is supposed to be the surname of the skip, but hear me out again: I don’t care. If I’d wanted to follow the rules exactly I’d have made the team consist of Sophie, Fitz, Keefe, and Biana or something boring like that. Team Vacker doesn’t sound that bad, anyways) bc. Idk. It just suits her

anyways! My current idea is that Linh could be a figure skater (AHA! I got you! Not only is this a curling au, it’s a figure skating au, too! (Disclaimer I know nothing about figure skating. It just fits Linh’s vibe)) at the same rink that Team Valiant practices at. I know that sounds infusing, but all the curling rinks I’ve been to have been connected to skating rinks, too.

anyways, Linh does figure skating, probably duets (is that what they’re called? lol) with Tam. When Team Valiant goes to check out the ice, Linh & Tam are practicing their routine, so when Sophie’s passing by the ice she sees Linh and goes :O pretty.

they run into each other later at a cafe and the rest is history. And by that I mean, that’s all I have as of now.

anyways, tagging some of my friends bc I worked hard on this and want someone to see it. Sorry guys. You probably don’t ship solinh or know anything about curling.
