The Boondocks #25: “Home Alone” | December 17, 2007 - 11:30PM | S02E10
This is another fun, pretty typical sitcom style episode. In this one, Tom convinces Granddad to go on a sex-having vacation to escape the stress of having to rear his two awful boys.
This will require hiring a sitter. Huey and Riley have a storied past when it comes to being sat. They are on a “do not sit” list, just like Bart Simpson before them. Eventually Granddad settles on Uncle Ruckus for sitter, but even he can’t stand up to their terror. He eventually flees, leaving the kids to their own devices.
Riley takes the stash of money Granddad has tucked away and buys some fancy clothes. Huey, pragmatically concerned with their newfound inability to buy food for themselves, grounds Riley and eventually becomes a fascist, treating Huey like a literal prisoner. Meanwhile Tom feels ditched by Granddad who feigned interest in bringing Tom with him, and Granddad fails to come anywhere close to achieving his dreams of having women do kisses on him while smiling big.
This one is all about character-driven gags. It’s also all about the boys calling each other a word that rhymes with gag. Well, it rhymes with gaggy, specifically. I am sorry, everyone, I enjoy hearing mean words on comedy programs. Even that one word that the characters on the show are allowed to say and I am not.
There’s a number of cultural references, such as the then-current discussion of Jay-Z calling for a boycott on Cristal. The guy under fire, managing director Frédéric Rouzaud, was asked if he felt that Cristal’s association with rap could hurt the brand. All he had to do was say “no, of course not” but instead he said this: “that’s a good question, but what can we do? We can’t forbid people from buying it. I’m sure Dom Pérignon or Krug would be delighted to have their business.” Not great, but it’s a far cry from what Uncle Ruckus claims he said. Uncle Ruckus’ false recollection of the quote is insanely funny and very rude.
Other bits worth mentioning: Granddad’s frustration with post-9/11 airport security. This scene is very funny, and includes some great lines on the overhead address system. There’s also a moment during Riley’s grounding where they use the music from Platoon. I have only seen Platoon once and I didn’t really like it all that much, but I have heard this music in about a billion different comedies and always have to rack my brain to remember what it was from. I think they used it in Salute Your Shorts once. Okay, that’s how we’re ending this post, sorry.
MAIL BAG
Programming note: probably not gonna post on Tuesday for purely tactical reasons. Please update your expectations accordingly.
Do you make up these mailbags as little jokes to yourself or are people actually sending them in?
That’s an amazing question. The truth is I do all the voices of the people who call in. No, just kidding. I would say the make-up is this: 40% a guy I know. 30% another guy I know. 20% another guy I know. 7% a few guys I know. 3% actual people who happened to find this blog on tumblr and care enough about it to write in and ask stuff. 0% girls :(
My favorite shot in the Petite Feet sketch is the one of Tim leaning on the dartboard that someone is actively playing on. Very lame in a Huey Lewis - Sports kind of way. I love it.
The staging in this sketch is unreal. The boys look great. The song sounds great. What more could you ask for?

BLINDSPOT REWATCH 2021 ~ S02E10 ~
And it gets worse (A one-shot) Words: 1190 Warnings: Mention of torture. Wounds. Angst. Disclaimer: This fic is translated. English isn't my first language
She was terrified the whole time. Since she woke up confused and in pain, laying over a table with her bandaged wound and Borden behind her, washing his hands, until Jane and Tasha were by her side to free her and help her go out to get medical attention. However, she didn’t allow herself to feel that terror, nor show it. She was an FBI agent, so she would find a way to get out of that situation.
She had always been good at improvising with the stuff she had around her, so as fast as she saw the IV plugged into her arm, she got the idea. She withdrew the needle from her arm and trying to be as quiet as possible, she removed the IV line from the bag. She wasn’t sure about how much she could fight against Borden, just getting up from the table had caused great pain in her abdomen, so she was counting with the advantage of surprise on her favor. The only thing she hadn't counted on it was to meet face to face with Shepherd. She knew about what she was capable of, so when she felt her gun against his head, she knew there was nothing she could do about it.
The next few hours were a living hell. It wasn’t just about enduring everything Shepherd did to her, physical pain was something she could handle, the feeling of the needle in her ear was something that had an end, and the remaining pain was even pleasant compared with her emotional pain. As Shepherd “interrogated” her, Borden just stood there, behind them, allowing it to happen. The person with whom she had thought she could build a life together, was the same person who had put her in this situation. The betrayal and her broken heart hurt much more than any needle.
However, from all that pain she took the strength she needed to face Shepherd without a trace of fear. The FBI wouldn't negotiate with terrorists and she wouldn't give any kind of intel that could help Sandstorm. She didn't lose hope that her team was looking for her, she knew they'd find a way to get to her, she just hoped they weren't too late.
It was when they were alone with Borden, or whatever his name was, that only then did she allow herself to beg him. If she only could appeal to any feeling he has had for her, if at least anything of what he had said to feel about her was true, maybe he could let her go. She was so terrified that she could feel as if her heart was going to leap out of her chest. Everything could end so fast and easy, with just a needle in her arm. For a moment he seemed to hesitate, he seemed to hear her words, but the team's arrival interrupted the moment. He took her hand, only then did she notice how cold she was because his hands were warm. He said goodbye and left her there, tied, with the IV on her arm.
Jane’s voice brought some peace to her. Tasha was there too. As they rescued her, she couldn't help but sob, she felt relief and the adrenaline she had accumulated in her system was losing effect, making her feel everything that she hadn’t been able to feel until that moment. Her abdomen and jaw hurt too much. The light dazzled her eyes when they left the house. Tasha led them to the wrecked car they had arrived in. It would not work to return but it could help to take refuge from the cold. Patterson was pale and cold, so Jane took Weller’s coat from the floor and put it on her shoulders. Then she went to look for Kurt, in case he needed help.
Tasha stayed looking after Patterson. She stood outside the car and called for a bus and some backup. Then she cleaned the tears from Patterson’s face, and then she gave her some water. She took care of her injuries, Tasha was particularly concerned about the one on her abdomen but was confident that help would arrive soon. Patterson laid her head against Tasha’s chest, and the brunette hugged her. Only then Patterson could say a word.
“I thought… I came to think that you would not arrive on time. I…”
“It’s ok, you are safe now.” Tasha tightened the hug and rubbed her shoulder. She wanted to make sure she knew she would be there for her.
“He shot me.”
Tasha didn’t say a word, she pursed her lips and kept rubbing her shoulder. It was painful to see her going through that, she had never thought that something like this could happen, but as bad as she felt about it, she knew Patterson was having a thousand times worse.
“He shot me and then he just handed me to shepherd” then her voice cracked with new sobs. Patterson knew it was more complicated than that, but to sum it all up it was what had happened.
“Shhh, easy. Take a deep breath.” Nothing she could say would help her to feel better but she needed to say something. “Deep breaths, that’s it. Just relax. We’ll be out of here in a moment, ok?” She could hear the ambulance siren and when she turned she could see Jane coming back with Weller, but there was no trace of Borden.
That night was hard, even more than being tied up to a table, at the mercy of Shepherd and Borden. After Weller leave, everything went into silence. Visiting hours had ended, the other patients were sleeping but she couldn’t stop thinking about all the events that lead her there. Every move she made, led to a sharp pain in her abdomen. She could hear the gunshot again and then Borden's face appeared in the gloom of the room. Every time she fell asleep, she could feel Sheperd’s hands over her, leading to some nightmares that woke her up after a few minutes of sleep. What was worse was that the opioids that the doctors gave her to control her pain fought against her will to stay awake, so she was trapped in a loop.
Early in the morning, Tasha went to check on her and came across a completely different Patterson from how she had seen her the day before. She seemed more cheerful and calm, despite the fact that her jaw still bother her. Then Tasha saw her laptop open over the hospital table and she scolded her for working.
“You need to take some time to heal.”
“Tash, I’m fine, really." She wasn't but she wouldn't admit that. "I need to work.”
“How do you feel?”
“It hurts, but I'll live.”
She still didn't like the idea of Patterson working from the hospital, but to be honest, she would have done the exact same thing.
“Listen… yesterday I was…”
“In shock after a very distressing experience?”
“Yeah, well, I wouldn’t say that I was in shock but…”
“Patterson, it’s ok. You don’t need to give me any explanation.”
“Thanks for being there for me.”
“Always.”
---
A/N: Fun fact, writing this I realized a headcanon I have, in which Patterson hates needles. I’m not sure to be talking about a phobia, but she certainly avoids needles every time she can.

Criminal Minds s02e10 Lessons Learned review - or more aptly named, holy shit I can’t believe they put him in harm’s way, I’m going to fucking kill those bastards, oh he’s all right, good. fuck you assholes.
Episode 10 – Lessons Learned
Okey dokey, so we’re nearly halfway through season 2, and I’ve only been working on it two days (in actual reviewing time, I’m divulging some inner secrets that can only be divulged to those privileged few who deign my words worthy of reading, so shhh!!!). Pretty intense shit is going on over here.
I just called one of my friends to get rid of cockroaches. I know, it’s pussy thing to do, especially for a lady, but come on! That’s like the one bug that really gets my goat! I can deal with spiders, ants, mosquitos, even flies. But not roaches. Ugh. So gross. That and rats are my two weaknesses.
So, back to Criminal Minds, because let’s face it, Shemar and Matthew are so much better than dealing with household pests. Let’s see what this episode has in store.
Let’s see what happens.
Whoa, that’s a SWAT car. Yikes. This is gonna be intense.
A lady team leader. I love it.
Hey! It’s Professor Short-Skirt from Community! Awesome!
Well, it’s not a meth lab, but there is an escape tunnel, and that’s a fucking bomb.
Who the fuck wakes Hotch on a morning sleep-in. Damn. Poor thing.
God, I can’t believe that he has to do this to his wife. But come on, it’s his fucking job. I love Hotch so much.
Straight to business.
Wait. Emily knows Arabic? Damn.
I love you already, Prentiss. Awesome.
I love how everyone’s like, awesome! We could use her!
And then Penelope dazzles everyone with everything. Lol.
Jin d’Allah. Meaning soldier of God. Lovely.
Oh god, he’s part of the Jihad. Yikes.
Wait. Wait. Hold the presses. Reid read the Koran? Damn.
They have to do in 48 hours what the CIA haven’t been able to do in two months? Fuck.
Wait. Gideon is heading to Guantanamo Bay? Oh my god. That’s intense.
Yup, they should assess Prentiss on the field, and she’s willing enough, what’s the harm?
Dale Turner: “Some of the best lessons are learned from past mistakes. The error of the past is the wisdom of the future.” Who is this guy and can I marry his brain?
Gideon, why are you being so harsh on Prentiss? And Prentiss, he’s right, this isn’t a treat to go with them to Guantanamo. You have to prove your worth, and you have to not interrupt[t Gideon while he’s playing chess with Reid, and you need to tone down your sassiness. Capiche?
Oh Reid’s ‘oooh snap’ face is everything to me.
So Gideon is a genius.
Haha the whole chess board just went kersplat. I love it.
There’s a mandatory 90-degree turn when you approach Gitmo? Damn.
And Reid was winning! Wait what, Gideon would have had him in three moves? Damn. Prentiss is good.
Wait, it’s a bio-chemical bomb? Damn.
Hey! Hey! Why torture the guy? You want answers, that’s not how you get them.
So Gideon’s going to swoop in as the hero who is juxtaposed to his usual tormentors? That’s awesome.
Crap. A list of chemicals. Damn.
So Jin d’Allah is so convinced he is going to suffer, he won’t even cooperate? Youch.
A list of chemicals needed to weaponized Anthrax. What’s that? Some kind of explosive that’s deadly? From your tone, Derek, it sure seems that way.
So even the smallest amount of this Anthrax is deadly to many people? Yikes.
God, I already love Prentiss. She’s like – he’s Egyptian, from Cairo, wait, no, he might be from Yemen, but most like Egypt. You do you, Emily.
So he’s slightly impressed by how much Gideon finds out about him through conversation rather than violence.
Gideon’s worst enemy is ignorance. Welcome to the club, buddy.
Aww, he’s letting him pray! That’s so amazing!
Yikes! Those details are driving me nuts! So turns out that the NSA is routing its satellites to the USA during emergencies of electronic traffic. Meaning, they can basically monitor whoever they want at any given time and just not tell anybody. Well, that’s an unsettling thought there, guys. My condolences. Of course, I don’t know how it works here in Israel, either, so it might very well be happening here, too. In which case – NO ONE IS SAFE! WE NEED AN ESCAPE PLAN TO MARS!
Wait, those CIA assholes kept those water bottles there to remind him that he couldn’t have any? Wow, talk about extreme measures to get him to crack. Yet, they were unsuccessful, so what’s the point? I’m learning a whole new mass of information about the American law enforcement system, and some of it isn’t to my liking at all.
“How can you ignore the fact that Muhammad preached passivity while he was in Mecca? ‘Do no violence.’” Wow. That is true.
“His later message from Medina was perfectly clear. ‘When violence comes upon you, you must fight back with violence.’” Seriously? Turns out he’s not even quoting the Koran, but the Hadith. “The Verse of the Sword”. Which the Muslims argue cancels out earlier teachings. Someone’s spin on the words of the prophet. Oh dear lord.
Fight and slay infidels wherever you find them and seize them in every stratagem of war. – that’s in the Koran?
Ah! Unless they repent. Establish regular prayers and practice regular charity.
So those who embrace the Jihad basically spin everything that Muhammad said and the Koran to support their violent ways to justify their killings as the will of Allah? Oh god, that is seriously messed up, brother.
“How is it that my faith would allow you to live and worship as you please, and yours would take my life and snuff it out?” Amazing. Simply amazing.
“You are simply misguided people of the book.” PAH! “But if you revert to Islam …” seriously? That’s the only way to repent for their ‘sinful ways’?
So he survived a bombing on a bazaar in Cairo? Damn. And he was only eight? Yikes.
Let’s verify it with Oracle of All Knowledge.
Half his family died in the bombing? Damn. Poor thing. But that is not the reason to go on a killing spree in the name of a god, and call it holy revenge. It isn’t.
Wait. They’re going into a site, where there might be an active bomb, an active chemical bomb no less, with no coms? Oh god. Please let my baby boy survive this. I won’t be able to cope with it at work today.
So he’s relieved by telling him that they found the sites? What’s wrong with this guy? Oh my god, he’s the one calling the shots on the bombings. Fuck. Get out of there! The bomb is there and is about to blow!!!! I know it! Morgan, get out of there, leave Professor Short-Skirt, take Hotch with you, and scram!
Oh snap. So they may have gotten the Anthrax from a foreign lab? Damn.
Oh crap, the girls can see the bombing in Annandale, oh god.
Please pick up!
Oh thank god.
“Don’t worry. Don’t think you’re gonna get rid of me that easy.” Thank the almighty lord of chocolate Adonises and chiseled abs. I wouldn’t live without Shemar XD
“Do you need anything?” “I know who to call if I do. Thanks, baby doll.” Aww, just kiss already.
So they didn’t use Anthrax in the two first bombs. But the third one will involve it.
Jind, don’t fuck with Gideon, and don’t fuck with me. You suck, you are evil, and you need to stop.
Wait. He’s changing his story now? His son is the kid who got blown up in the bazaar bombing, and he was the one who survived? Fuck you, asshole!
His real name is Jamal Abaza. Go to hell.
Hey, CIA assholes, why you so rude to my Gideon? Not nice. He’s trying to school you.
Fuck protocols. Assholes.
“How goes with the CIA?” “I don’t know what Gideon said to them, but they are feeding me information like crazy.” Ha, I love Gideon and I love his power of persuasion. I would believe anything that came out of that pretty mouth of his.
Seriously? Jamal, seriously? You and Gideon breath the same air, you are comprised of the same biological components that make you a male human being. Just because you believe in different faiths does not make you all that different. Just means you believe different things. And the fact that you believe your god would like you to eliminate anyone who doesn’t believe in him, but that’s beside the point, am I right? I’m not? Well, fuck you asshole.
Oh. So he’s less than human? You try to kill other humans. Come on.
And yet Gideon is still gracious to him.
That should count for something.
20 grams of Anthrax missing. Ruh-roh.
“No one wants the other kids peeing in their sand box.” Ew, Garcia, simply ew. I mean, true, but ew.
Soft entry. As opposed to what? Cuz you just banged open a door. That’s hard for me.
Whoa. That’s a lot of dead bodies, dude. Fuck.
So he’s bringing in Reid to talk to him? What the hell are you doing?
He’s making jokes? Seriously?
Oh god. Mandy’s horrified expression is just amazing. So touching.
Oh crap. He’s going to blow up a mall. Fuck.
Ha! They manipulated him to think it’s a different time, and they just let him show his final hand. I love you Gideon, and I am so sorry for those people. I hope they get there in time. Shit.
Please, Hayley, postpone the pictures, you need to not go to the mall.
Shit. They’re going through the air vents. Damn.
Yes! My baby boy got him. And now they’re saying it was a robbery? Come on. Let’s not pretend it was anything other than a terror attack.
Oh thank god, Hotchner’s family are okay. Thank god.
Hahahahhaa Jack is so cute!
Ralph Waldo Emerson: “In order to learn the most important lessons of life, one must each day surmount a fear.” Meh, somewhat true.
Boom. Gideon schooled Reid again.
Aww! He’s letting Prentiss play him? That’s nice. So they’re finally trusting her. Good.
Okay, so this episode hit close to home. Not because I was raised in a Jewish household, but because I was raised in Israel, and Muslim extremists and the Jihad were always a threat hovering over our heads. I really hate terrorism. Because it’s a group of sad, pathetic people brainwashing an entire group who believe in a certain faith that in order to prove their faithfulness they have to kill others and maybe die themselves. This episode was extremely powerful. It made me appreciate Prentiss, and make me like her. It had me anxious over my baby boy, Derek, on whether or not he was going to live, and thank goodness he did, and it had a bit of Penelope going nuts over him as well, which was awesome.
Amazing episode, amazing writing, and I hope this season continues to amaze me.

12 oz. Mouse #17: “Eighteen” | November 27, 2006 – 12:45AM | S02E10
This whole episode feels like it’s taking place concurrently with the previous one, as certain threads don’t seem like they are continuing in a logical way. I’ll point out a couple things, anyway.
You might recall that in episode #15 we left off with Producer Man coming up the elevator, and it ended RIGHT as the doors were about to open. Well, the ignored that in episode #16, instead starting off with a dream/flashback Mouse was having in the room. This episode finally sees Producer man exiting the elevator. He’s making beeping noises, and Liquor says he’s going to hook him up to some stuff and translate his beeping. There’s also a passing reference to a key Mouse holds. Liquor tells him that it’s the key to imagination.
Later in the city we see Shark lure New Guy into a trap. Shark captures him with a hook and reels him in. Shark also has Golden Joe, mouth stitched shut so he can’t holler.
Liquor uses the computer to find out that the hand is inside Producer Man’s brain. There’s a line, I forget the context exactly, where Liquor says that producer man “came in beenping”. I don’t know, that’s just such a great turn-of-phrase, it might as well be a Longmont Potion Castle line. Speaking of good lines, Mouse brags about having one thousand clothes. Stuff like that really makes this show great. Okay, back to the plot: Liquor decodes Hand’s beeping and says hand wants to reunite with the arm and kill the person who separated. Mouse is suspicious of Liquor, who has literally been acting funny (you’ll recall him performing stand-up to recap certain plot elements of the series in a previous episode). Mouse “bones” Liquor by having Skillet put a bone on top of Liquors head. This causes robo-woman to train her guns on his head, because she hates bones.
They are about to leave when Shark sends a TV+VCR combo with a tape inside it up the elevator. Shark says a lot of cryptic stuff but the main thing is he tells Mouse that he’s “just information”. Then we see Shark blowing up a lot of stuff in the city, including Mouse’s rocket car. The Mouse gang decides to follow producer man, especially at Liquor’s behest.
We’ve not seen much from the monster, Amalochk, last seen huge and terrorizing the city. In fact, Shark blowing stuff up seems to be a mild retcon of the previous episode’s cliff-hanger where we see the monster stomping around, causing the same effect. The monster is now back in the graveyard from whence he came; Pronto is there with him. Amalochk eats Pronto. It’s almost as though we’re being shown a scene from last week’s episode rather than it being a continuation of the previous episode, but I guess Amalochk could have shrunk back down and gone back to the grave yard to kill Pronto. It’s all very weird, and I wonder if they re-edited this stuff extensively in the movie cut.
Meanwhile, Shark has taken some grief from the Eye because he blowed up his home. Shark also eats New Guy after he makes a very mild escape attempt.
The Mouse gang arries at a manhole. Liquor suggests Mouse goes down there. Then we cut to the ground in the desert opening up and a bunch of mechanical bugs come out. Are these the same guys from a few episodes ago that terrorized Mouse at Corndog Ranch? I don’t remember, and I don’t wanna look it up. We also show a bunch of mechanical Bow Ties waking up in what looks like an underground militarized storage area. Shark watching all of this says, “now it begins” or something like that CREDITS.
POST CREDITS SCENE: Peanut cop is spraying stuff with fire, and Shadow Man shows up. Peanut cop asks for “the darts”, and Shadow Man darts him, presumably it’s some sort of tranquilizer dart. I might’ve missed a post-credits scene here and there because of HBOMax’s awful autoplay thing that sometimes I forget to disable.
And that was this one. Stuff is happening! Maybe.

HEADCANON ; NOAH.
My thoughts on why Noah decided to carry on Piper’s legacy & create the Morgue
The show itself claims he uses the platform of storytelling as a form of coping, and while I believe that’s definitely true, I think there's more to it than that. It also has to do with the ability to relate and his lack of experience in the whole horrendous situation.
He's the only one of the Lakewood six by the end of Piper's murder spree who didn’t have to go through any physical trauma or suffer the major loss of someone close. Riley's death was definitely shocking to him, and even though he liked her a lot, she was a girl he was still just getting to know. so while it unquestionably affected him, it wasn't the same. He can't completely understand what the other's have been through. this explains why, in 2x01, he thinks it's okay to ask Emma if she'd come on his podcast and talk about, what was for her, an extremely triggering subject; even when Audrey warned him not to.
And honestly, I think the podcast let him feel relevant when he otherwise felt behind the scenes (We all know how much Noah loves the spotlight, even from the pilot episode alone with his classroom monologues, or his stories at Nina's memorial), and he's able to enjoy the publicity it brings him because the real horror of what had happened to them, especially Emma, doesn't resonate. It's an exciting story that he's such a big fan of (he calls it the biggest thing that’s ever happened to them), but this time, the horror story is in his own town and the cast is made up of people he knows, making it even more intriguing for him.
All of this changes in s02e10 when he's personally attacked and buried in the ground, which eventually leads to the loss of Zoë; someone he fully opened his heart to. There’s a switch; he gets it now and through his hurt, his perspective changes and he realizes what a terrible thing it is they're all actually going through. I’m not saying Noah was oblivious to all the pain his friends were feeling, or that he wasn’t feeling the terror himself, he definitely understood that, but he couldn’t quite get himself to relate in a way where he could take it as seriously as the others (to him it was horrifying and haunting but it was also in its own way, an epic adventure.)
So when he survived his own personal experience with the killer, in a way, it was a wake-up call that forced him to realize his podcast was inappropriate and that it was glorifying the horrific things that were happening to them. which i think is in part why he wanted to shut it down, up until he found a new reason to continue the Morgue. So, I think storytelling really became more of a coping mechanism later, as in after 2x10, because that’s when the reality of it all really sunk in for him.
