It’s kinda funny, people ask me why there aren’t any great rock bands from Philadelphia. Let’s see, we had Todd, but he’s really an Upper Darby kid. Then, there were the pre Beatles teen idols.
And, oh yeah. The lush, glorious music of Philadelphia International Records, the music written, played, produced, and released by the brilliant Black sons (Linda Creed excepted) of the City of Brotherly Love and Sisterly Affection. The sound that dominated the charts and now seems forgotten, even by longtime Philly residents.
The Sound of Philadelphia.
“If You Don’t Know Me by Now” is a song written by Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff, and recorded by the Philly soul musical group Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes. It became their first hit after being released as a single in September 1972, topping the US R&B chart and peaking at number 3 on the US Billboard Hot 100.
“If You Don’t Know Me by Now” was originally written for Labelle (a trio led by Patti LaBelle) but they never recorded it. Much like the issue with “I Miss You” and The Dells passing on it, the song’s composers Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff gave it to Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes, which featured Teddy Pendergrass as lead vocalist. In addition to the single release, the track was included on their debut album I Miss You.
Patti LaBelle later made the song as part of her concert repertoire in 1982; a live version appears on her 1985 album, Patti.
“If You Don’t Know Me by Now” has since been covered by a number of other artists, most notably the English pop/soul band Simply Red, who took their version to number one on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1989.

the gang goes to england. mac sneaks into a wrexham match to try to find ryan reynolds and is escorted out. frank goes on an acid trip while in the british museum and gets arrested for trying to steal an irish sword. dennis goes on a tour in the tate museum. he gets the tour guide to have sex with him in a storage room, and they get caught by museum police. dee wanders around vlogging herself and finds out charlie has become part of the kings' guard guarding buckingham palace (no explanation). they try to get into the palace through the vents and dee drops into the royal throne room. the vent snags on her top and pulls it off, so she accidentally flashes king charles. he gets so hard he has a heart attack and instantly dies. they all regroup in jail, but get let out because frank bribed the security guard with the remaining acid he had. the episode ends with the news covering the death of king charles, designating the gang as american fugitives.

I loved the Abbott episode of the Abbott Elementary x It’s Always Sunny crossover. I just wonder what Dennis was up to, why he didn’t want to be on film. I also wanna know why Mac was taking such great strides to get them out of their community service… like idk if it was just me but seeing him in a leadership position with no pushback from Dennis and actually doing a really good job was interesting

Remembering William “Poogie” Hart on his birthday. Hart was the main singer and songwriter for the marvelous Delfonics, an essential piece of The Sound of Philadelphia.

here's my take on the "mcdonald" vs. "macdonald" discourse:
i think it's mcdonald bc the gag is that he's "ronald mcdonald" and the mcdonald in question is "mc" not "mac". also rob mcelhenney is an "Mc" not "Mac" - three letter first name/preferred name ("rob" & "mac") and "Mc" last name ("McElhenney" & "McDonald")
mac is not "mac" bc his last name is "MACdonald", but instead because nicknaming his last name (mcdonald) has to be "mac" bc who in their right mind would just go by "mc".
pause. what if he went by "mc" but pronounced "mac" but he'd say it aloud and everybody just assumed it was "mac".
anyway. look at my son mc:

*1st day of kindergarten*
mac: hi! i'm mc [pronouncing it "mac]
teacher: ok mac! can you write your name on your paper? m-a-c?
mac: what the fuck is "a"
