Not to beat a dead horse but “two middle-aged divorcées find a second chance and true love in one another based on deep friendship and mutual respect, and establish a mixed found family and excellent working relationships” is so much more appealing and original than “white man is the key to fixing everybody’s lives and then he goes back to live in a traditional nuclear family structure in the Midwest.”

Ik the finale was crazy but we’re not talking enough about Nandor’s reaction to Guillermo’s accused affairs with the camera men

Love that Nandor always fiddles with his hands when he speaks to Guillermo. Like yeah his face and tone is aloof but look at those hands go 🤝👉👈🤝

Though I didn’t hate the finale, I do think that the show should’ve taken the opportunity to turn Guillermo into a vampire at the end of season 5.
Maybe instead of realising that he doesn’t want to be a vampire, he realises that becoming a vampire hasn’t changed him. He’s not cooler, it will take years for him to have a special power, and the vamily aren’t treating him very differently.
Season 6 episode 1, he realises (through Jerry being woken up) that he too could end up forgotten and disregarded, that not all vampires are adverse to growth, just his vampires. Maybe instead of canon capital, Guillermo could’ve met a cool new group of vampires and started to spend more time with them. Maybe he wants to be different, better. But he eventually realises he’s an uncool freak, just like the vampires have always told him. But they’re also uncool freaks. And they can all be uncool freaks together.
I think that the ending where Guillermo stays with the vampires is great, but it does leave you wondering if Guillermo will just spend the entirety of his life with the vampires while they will have eternity. It feels like a plot hole or just kind on unsatisfactory.

I do find the “nothing changes, no one grows” message contradictory, but I believe that was the intention.
Some things don’t change. Laszlo’s been working on his monster for decades, the Guide doesn’t get to sing along at end, Nandor has ridiculous plans that are going to end up with Guillermo doing all of the work, Guillermo is still a black sheep.
Except they do change, Laszlo does end up finishing his monster. The guide isn’t allowed to sing, but she’s still there, casually hanging out with the vamily. Nandor builds the lair himself, with no complaints. Guillermo is still a black sheep and no one understands him but they also try because he’s their black sheep and they may not get why he’s so sad about the documentary ending but they’re trying their best to make him feel better.
Nothing changes, except when it does. No one grows, except sometimes they do.

When Guillermo was going to make a speech and Nandor made him speak to the camera, and then switch cameras- it was 100% because he was originally looking at Greg the camera A operator

Laszlo and Nadja earnestly trying to help Guillermo process the ending of the documentary was very innocently sweet of them. They were so bad at it and spent most of it goading him into doing a dance but gosh it was cute that they tried

One prediction I have before the finale airs is that there will be a post-credit scene or something along those lines where 100+ years into the future, the documentary is picked back up again and we go to the vampire household and Guillermo opens the door and he’s like “oh hey you guys are back.” And it cuts off there and we never know how he’s still alive we just know that he is alive.

I personally feel like the monster is a great way of showcasing how the vamily has changed over the years, and how a lot of that change is due to Guillermo. This weird monster creation from the basement comes along and what are they gonna do? Not adopt him? They already tried not to do that with Guillermo and he fucking crept into their hearts anyway.

I think season 5 was a really great season for Guillermo + everyone. Because it had these big dramatic moments of genuine friendship and connection e.g Laszlo helping Guillermo with science, Nadja saving Guillermo from the vampire vets, and them all visiting Guillermo in his hotel room to say goodbye. There was simply no more denying how much these vampires loved their little guy- and I like that it payed off in season 6 too in a very natural way.
Of course Nadja and Nandor get jobs at canon to watch Guillermo. Of course Laszlo and Nandor bully that actor guy into giving Guillermo an autograph, and then they give him the merch they spent a whole episode fighting over because he’s their little guy and his feelings are hurt. Of course they’re all pissed off and upset that Guillermo has ‘ditched’ the vamily.
Found family trope is great but it’s even better when you get to watch it progress in real time.
