let’s talk for a second guys listen to me here. imagine theres this guy who’s your very good friend and finally you find him again thank god but he doesn’t know you. and you knew he wouldn’t. but you still try to help him and he’s so kind to you. to a stranger. he lets you stay in his home because “i’m sure my innie wouldn’t want you sleeping in a greenhouse” he’s not scared or confused and he believes you so easily. he doesn’t know you and he doesn’t love you but he cries after you die and thinks of his wife. and now also imagine there’s this woman. and you don’t know her and she doesn’t know you. she’s strange and kind of offputting but she’s still one of you in a way so you care because you’re a good person. she asks you to sculpt how you feel and you make a tree. the other night you were crying in front of the tree that killed her and you think you don’t know. you think you don’t feel it. but maybe you do. and now imagine there’s this guy banging down your door and screaming your name. by the time you get to open it he’s leaving. you follow him and you don’t know why. you’re watching him. a few days ago you were holding hands over a painting. and now you don’t know him. but maybe you do because maybe there’s something stronger than severance and maybe that’s love

I guess Mark's depression really does make him freakishly good at his job

Helly: What about Mark's crystal head cube? Dylan: That's not a prize, that's just something they gave him Dylan: The erasers are mostly decorative, since we don't have pencils. Finger trap is fun, as long as you know how to use it safely, but it's really more about what they represent: how far you got in the file. Helly: Yeah, but why don't we always finish the files? Dylan: Because they only keep so long. You know, we finish on average 1 in 5 files before they expire- which is better than it used to be, before Mark's "Freshman Fluke". Helly: What's a "Freshman Fluke"? Dylan: Before my time, don't go getting all impressed, but I guess when Mark was first hired, he was able to knock out a file in a day. The record before that was 7 weeks. Now they still have no idea how he did it, but they were able to reverse-engineer some new process based on whatever he did. Now the average file takes 6 weeks. Mark still has the record, which is why he has that gaudy him-head at his desk.

Things I noticed about Ms Casey/ Gemma Scout, upon rewatch

> she genuinely cares about everyone shes told to look after (I assume this is leftover compassion from her teaching) she wanted to hug Helly, she urged Irving to find Burt, and she was scared for Helly and Mark when they went missing

>she seems to expect Mark to respond to her but doesn’t know why. When Mark chooses Helly over her, she seems more confused then upset, and then confused over her own confusion.

> Mark cries before work, she cries after work (as shown when she asks milchick if shes ‘happy up there’)

> shes authoritative and straightforward, yet when she interacts with Mark outside of professional boundaries (when they see eachother in the hallway, when she tells him she’s watching after Helly) she seems shy and unsure of herself.
