So I just re-watched A League Of Their Own for the millionth time and my first thought was your fem Crowley and Azi as 1940s baseball players :3

I really love that idea 🙊⚾️ I imagine Aziraphale wouldn’t really enjoy playing competitively at all, but she was pressured into it because she is a really talented batter, due to her upper body strength. Crowley would prefer being the pitcher, and she would constantly break uniform regulations, mostly because she doesn’t like being told what she can and cannot wear.

They would be on opposite teams ( but fall in love on the field 😏)

I made some quick sketches but I will keep working on it 🤓

⚾️ Inspiration Saturday ⚾️

The baseball AU is (unsurprisingly) inspired by the inherent homoeroticism in baseball, especially between a pitcher and catcher.

“I-I think I need quiet today,” Buck said when he dropped his bag into his locker. Eddie got in early for the home opener instead of pacing around his house like he’d spent the early morning doing, he was already dressed for the game and doing his pre-game routine of reviewing the starting lineup for the Rockies.  “We can do quiet,” Eddie looked up at Buck with a small smile to remind him that he was there and he had his back. “Get dressed and I’ll go kick everyone out of the lounge.” “I don’t want to-” “Buck, what's the game day rule?” “Don’t touch Richardson’s bat?” “Buck,” Eddie gave Buck the bitchiest look he could muster while trying not to smile at him.  “Don’t mess with the starting pitcher on game day,” Buck finally met Eddie’s gaze as he said it.  “Damn straight,” Eddie grinned and put a hand gently on Buck’s shoulder, his thumb on his collarbone. He couldn’t help but gently rub his thumb back and forth as he spoke. “So I’m going to clear out the lounge, you’re going to get dressed, and then we’re going to give you some quiet.” Eddie squeezed Buck’s shoulder once before he walked to the lounge and cleared out the guys who were playing video games on the couch. “Buckley needs quiet so I’m taking the room boys.” The room cleared out so quickly it was like Eddie had dropped a stink bomb. Ravi and Albert clapped Eddie on the shoulder as they walked out of the lounge. Bobby was the last out of the room, his uniform already on but shirt not buttoned.  “Buck hasn’t had a quiet start in a while,” Bobby said quietly, eyes soft.  “I’ve got him,” Eddie was just as quiet. “You know I’ve got him.” “I know you do,” Bobby pulled Eddie into a quick hug before leaving the lounge. Eddie followed him and watched as Buck finished putting on his uniform. The rest of the team was quiet, clearly giving Buck what Eddie had told them he needed.

At some point, in the latter half of Bucky's multi-modal trauma therapy in Wakanda, Dr. Sisulu had walked him through some of the benchmarks of recovery. She'd done the spiel that Bucky was familiar with the recite by heart by now, reminding him that healing wasn't linear, nor did it look the same for any two people, and that benchmarks could only ever be a reference point because not everybody valued the same things.

There had been one on the chart that hadn't quite made sense, something about 'low-stakes, variable investment' in 'arbitrary, non-essential social activities.' When he'd asked about it, Dr. Sisulu had laughed and said, "It means that one day, you might care about really stupid things for no reason other than the fact that it just feels good."

Bucky had tried to offer a smile in response and nodded like he understood, but even a year out of pure survival mode, none of that had seemed particularly possible for him.

Half a decade later, as Bucky and Sarah and the boys filed onto a set of bleachers toting snacks and posters and an absurdly large foam finger, her words came rushing back to him.

A friendly game between the families of AJ's baseball team--the Bullfrogs--and those of their sworn rivals from the next parish--the Lightning Bugs--was the definition of a non-essential thing to care about. Still, Bucky had cleared his schedule, flown down to Louisiana, and taken himself off the roster of on-call Avengers for the week, all so he could be there to see it. He'd even helped AJ and Cass with the posters, drawing some appropriately cartoon-y bullfrogs, then wielding the boxcutter to cut out the cardboard wings that Cass had wanted to attach to the foam finger.

It had seemed so far away and impossible the first time he'd considered it, and now here he was. There was a faint sting in his nose that Bucky recognized, and he moved quickly to distract himself before his eyes could well up, pointing to the dugout and asking AJ about who was playing for the Bullfrogs.

AJ's explanations were detailed the way they always were, anecdotes peppered in about nearly everyone on the team, complete with corrections and commentary from Cass. It kept Bucky busy until the Bullfrogs emerged from the dugout, set to field first, and the Delacroix half of the bleachers burst into cheers, AJ's teammates the loudest of all.

Bucky was sure he wasn't imagining the Lightning Bugs' side joining in as the pitcher appeared on the field, either, mitt in hand and a grin on his face as he jogged over to the mound. Immediately, AJ and Cass were on their feet, holding up one of their posters along with the winged foam finger.

Their hooting and hollering was enough to draw Sam's eye, and he threw his head back laughing as he saw their poster, complete with a shield-wielding bullfrog. His eyes moved to Bucky next, shaking his head in exasperation even as he grinned.

Bucky could have just smiled back, or waved, or busted out the second foam finger that had wings and a 3D shield, just to further bedevil Sam, but he didn't do any of those things. Instead, he sarcastically blew Sam a kiss, and then watched with wide eyes as Sam pretended to catch it and tuck it away in his pocket with a wink.

"It just feels good," Dr. Sisulu had said, and as Bucky's face grew warm and his heart raced a little faster, he had to admit that she was right. It did.

Anime Recs Pt 2

Any BL fan knows that sports anime is all about the homoerotic tension between the MC, his team players and his rivals 🤌🏼 trust this genre to serve in both aesthetics and feels - which means it deserves its own list! I tried to include a little bit of everything from hidden gems like Ryman’s Club to big hits like Haikyu. Most of these have 🌈 vibes if you squint (sometimes not that hard) with YoI being more intentional about it. And for those who love found family like me, you can’t go wrong with 1, 2 or 6. I hope everyone can get something for their tastes and find catharsis as they cheer for these pretty boys. This is the second part of my anime rec series, you can find the first list here. Enjoy!

1. Backflip!! 🤸🏻‍♂️

Summary: Shotaro Futaba loved sports, but was never good enough. But watching a group of gymnasts in the park and seeing them in a gymnastics tournament, he decides to join their school and become part of the gymnastic team. With new members, Shotaro and Ryoya Misato, the team aims for the upcoming Inter-High tournament.

2. Big Windup! ⚾️

Summary: The story follows the story of Ren Mihashi, a pitcher who was blamed by his middle school team for their string of losses, and as a result suffers from low self-esteem and transfers to a different high school. There, the school's first baseball team is being formed and Mihashi reluctantly joins as their Ace Pitcher.

3. Free! 🏊‍♂️

Summary: Free is set in the town of Iwatobi, Japan, which is based on Iwami, Tottori. The story is centered on high school student Haruka Nanase, a gifted swimmer. After encountering his childhood rival, Rin Matsuoka from Samezuka Academy, he and his friends revitalize Iwatobi High School's swim team.

4. Haikyu!! 🏐

Summary: Junior high school student, Shoyo Hinata, becomes obsessed with volleyball after catching a glimpse of Karasuno High School playing in the Nationals on TV. Of short stature himself, Hinata is inspired by a player the commentators nickname 'The Little Giant', Karasuno's short but talented wing spiker.

5. Kuroko no Basket 🏀

Summary: The story follows Kuroko's journey to success with his team, with most of the episodes being based around one or part of one challenging game, in which Kuroko and his teammates, most notably Taiga Kagami, perform plays and have short conversations with opposing players in the heat of the match.

6. Run with the Wind 🏃‍♂️

Summary: After abandoning competitive running back in high school, Kakeru Kurahara has no desire to return to the sport during his college years. But when an impromptu shoplifting-related sprint brings his talent to the attention of Haiji Kiyose, he soon finds himself wrapped up in an adventure he never imagined.

7. Salaryman’s Club 🏸

Summary: The story follows Mikoto Shiratori, a recently unemployed badminton prodigy who has the ability of foresight. After getting fired from Mitsuhoshi Banking for losing a match for their company sports badminton team, he gets recruited by Sunlight Beverage to play for their team and become a sales rep.

8. SK8 the Infinity 🛹

Summary: In Okinawa, a group of hardcore skaters participate in a secret, no-holds-barred competition after midnight known as "S", racing each other on skateboards down a winding road carved out of an abandoned mine. Reki, a high school sophomore and hardcore skater, takes new transfer student Langa to S one night, and ends up pulling him into the world of skateboarding.

9. Tsurune 🏹

Summary: Minato joins the Kazemai High School Archery Club and along with his old friends and new teammates, Nanao Kisaragi and Kaito Onogi, they aim for winning the prefectural tournament while trying to overcome their doubts and shortcomings.

10. Yuri!!! On ICE ⛸️

Summary: Japanese figure skater Yuri Katsuki faces a crushing defeat during the Grand Prix finals and heads home, unsure of whether or not he wishes to continue his skating career. After a video of Yuri mimicking Russian figure skater Victor Nikiforov's routine goes viral, Victor decided to become Yuri's coach, much to the dismay of his coach, his fans, and his fellow Russian skater Yuri Plisetsky.

Baseball AU, but make it introspective and a little angsty

“I’m a big boy Buck, I can talk to a guy I played with a decade ago by myself.” “I know you can, but you don’t have to,” Buck said. He kept his arm on Eddie’s shoulder for the rest of the game, kind of like he forgot it was there, chatting away like they always did when Buck wasn’t pitching and Eddie wasn’t catching.  It was almost enough to help Eddie forget that he had to talk to Watts after the game. Talk to the only pitcher Eddie had ever failed to get a handle on. The guy who made Eddie question his own skill.  The guy Eddie almost - almost what? Almost nothing, honestly. Nothing because Eddie was with Shannon and about to be a dad, but he was Eddie’s bisexual awakening.  Not that he was out to anyone besides his sisters, Athena, Hen, and somehow, accidentally, Lena Bosko. But that was a whole other story.  And it wasn’t that Eddie didn’t want to tell Buck or some of the other guys on the team, it was that baseball was still pretty homophobic. It doesn’t matter that their manager is a lesbian, that one of their bench coaches is a lesbian, that the entire pitching staff, plus Eddie, put on a massive fundraiser for Trevor’s List during pride night last year.  (If Eddie was really honest with himself, he was scared of what would happen if the news got out. He’d be a pariah.) So when the game ended Eddie ducked out from under Buck’s arm and they walked toward the locker room. When Eddie saw Watts, he offered Buck a small smile that didn’t really do anything to dismiss the worried look on Buck’s face. “Come to my apartment later? I’m FaceTime Chris at 8 and he asked where you were yesterday.” “Yeah, of course,” Buck grabbed Eddie’s wrist and squeezed it gently. “K-keep my posted if you need anything.”
