Happy Dadrius Day!

Oh, you thought I was only celebrating Huntlow Day today? NOPE! Any Sport in the Storm not only gave us Huntlow, but Dadrius too!

I explore Dadrius much more in my writing rather then art, and honsetly their dynamic is so fun to write, it's not even funny. Highly recommend you check out my Timeskip Watching and Dreaming AU on A03 if you're in to both Dadrius and Huntlow. It's a serveal fic arc exploring the months shortly after the collector is defeated, during the earliest parts of the timeskip we never saw, and heavily focuses on Hunter adjusting to his new life in the post-apocalyptic Boiling Isies and new relationships with old friends, new enemies, current friends, and his adoptive father and uncle.

Anyway, didn't mean to plug myself so much like that, but I earnest really love Dadrius so much. It may have no changed my life like Huntlow did, but I've also met awesome people who have shared the love of Dadrius. And I have to thank ASIAS for giving us not only the best ship in the show, but the best found family in the show.

Darius [stands up slowly, sharing glances with Eberwolf]: I didn't know it would bother you this much? Perhaps I should have talked it over with you. You just seemed so excited about the thought of----

Hunter: No! No, I want to go to school! I love school. It's where all my friends are! That's not the problem!!!!

Darius:.... Now I'm just confused.

Hunter [wave paper around even more]: You signed me up as Hunter Deamonne!!! Deamonne!!!!! I have a dad now! *rubs furiously at his eye* I have a dad now and I don't know what to do with myself!

Darius:.......

Darius: *ruffles his hair*

Hunter: *sobs hysterically and throws his arms around him*

Darius: *silently panicking while also trying to be comforting*

Eberwolf: *face palm*

Hunter: *drags Eberwolf into the hug too*

Eberwolf:.......

Eberwolf: 'oh'

So there's gonna be chaos after Belos' death, and people are going to need structure, they're going to look to for guidance. So I can see people temporarily resuming the coven system form of government for the sake of simplicity, until they can all repair and then figure stuff out. So given what we've seen of Terra, Adrian, and Vitimir, what if they tried to run for election as the new Emperor of the Boiling Isles; Everyone was betrayed and targeted by Belos, so it's easy and not really untrue to hide under the defense that they also didn't know better and meant well.

I'm just imagining it now; The Coven Heads agreeing to an election to prevent a messy war, competing over the role of new, interim Emperor, and vying for control in a mostly-legitimate way. Adrian obsesses over getting his campaign videos and presentations right, but his notoriety as a bad and incompetent boss quickly spreads and he becomes like that Jeb Bush meme. Hettie Cutburn utilizes her E-girl status and understanding of social media to cultivate a decent following.

Given Abomatons were present during the failed sabotage, I like to think they have the ability to record footage, and Alador released the footage of the CATTs trying to prevent the draining spell to give them validity. Mason would've been a popular candidate, being seen as a witch of the people, but he's not sure if he can trust his own judgment after misplacing his trust in Belos; So instead he throws his support behind the CATTs. There’s accusations of staged footage but some people were able to notice the commotion from below, and Mason’s support adds trust, but of course others like Terra and Vitimir will attempt to discredit.

Osran is forced to drop out early from the election because everyone places particular responsibility and thus blame on him for failing to predict Belos' treachery. Kikimora would've attempted to run for election given her previous role as Belos' right hand, and bring up the fact that she saved everyone by introducing King to the Collector; However, the kids at Hexside made sure to keep her in the dungeons to prevent this. And thank goodness for that, as she considered spinning the narrative that the draining spell was only because of the CATTs’ sabotage, and that Belos is being slandered (so as his confidant Kikimora can preserve his image to hitchhike on it).

In the end, at least one of the CATTs is elected (maybe Darius since Eber is fairly nonverbal and Raine has stage fright), and there's a bit of awkwardness in that a lot of citizens don't consider the idea of a dictator to be inherently flawed, and are assured that this new one is an actual good guy so there's nothing to worry about; So then you have the CATTs using their power to pass legislation that lessens it, and results in the council system that the writers confirmed as canon.

Technically, nothing's saying Raine, Darius, and Eberwolf are the ONLY members of our confirmed council (signified by their Titan badges); For all we know, Hettie, Mason, and Osran are included given they're not depicted among the coven heads who clung to the old structure for power. Just because they didn't show up in the epilogue doesn't necessarily mean they aren't up to anything; It's just that Doylistically speaking, the epilogue is meant to check up one final time on characters the audience was actually introduced to and thus familiar with!

hunter is the type to find cool and pretty rocks and give them to darius and eber and while darius especially doesn’t really even like rocks or dirt he still keeps them all because hunter thought it was cool and it reminded him of darius so he doesn’t even think about throwing it away for even a second

eber on the other hand loves rocks so it isn’t a surprise he keeps them

I been want to post this and where I’m, it’s Father’s Day so I thought why not. I saw people were also doing a dadius week and I really want to join but I don’t have any embroidery/art ideas to do for it. But it one of my favorite things from this fandom as it’s so sweet. Hopefully I can think of something more for them later in the future.

I also love Eber so much along Darius so I need him to be included. Also him joking with Hunter that he his wolf dad or uncle or something. Just him picking a fun name to call himself and Hunter joking along to annoy Darius. Also Eber totally calling hunter cub as it’s so cute

Also costume note as I have to say it but I love how Darius subtly matches Hunter in the last bits, as look hunter has a little bit of purple from his wolf shirt and Darius has a little bit of yellow to match hunter.

I imagine this happens after Hunter has a nightmare and gets Darius and Eberwolf to come in and stay with him. No joke I had my dad come in and sleep in my room with me after I had nightmares to an embarrassingly late age... 18. But there's no shame in it! Especially considering the nightmares Hunter must have.

I imagine that Darius runs his fingers Hunter head to help calm him down, then he pats the senestive spot behind Hunter's ears to make him sleep. I also imagine that Eberwolf kneads like a cat on top of Hunter. Then Hunter goes to sleep, and Darius and Eberwolf just don't leave. And that's how this happens. The end.

I think there’s plenty of room to interpret Eberwolf as Darius’ longest, most consistent friendship throughout his entire life, and for most of his life.

We know Darius had Alador, Odalia, Eda, Lilith, Raine, Perry, and the Golden Guard. If we want to be generous (to prove my point) let’s say that he’s known his peers for ten years, AKA he was four when they met. Probably not what the writers will intend, but I’m playing it safe.

We can surmise they drifted apart after Hexside; Possibly during their time there! The Golden Guard was probably head of the Emperor’s Coven, so did he tutor Darius as an adult? Why would he do that, if Darius was in the Abomination Coven, and not a covenscout?

Enter Amity and Lilith’s dynamic, in which Lilith is head of the Emperor’s Coven, helping a top of the class Abomination witch in her training, amongst other students; More than likely because Amity is vying for the Emperor’s Coven at this point in time. So it’s likely the Golden Guard tutored Darius under a virtually identical context, and Darius had that same goal as Amity. We know Odalia did as well… Imagine if she was also an apprentice to the Golden Guard, since Amity was just Lilith’s top protege.

Let’s get Doylist; We know Dana is open to a Teen Raeda prequel series. And if she’s going to have Darius, Alador, and Odalia as recurring cast members, then… At that rate, you may as well have the major incidents in Darius’ life happen within the time frame of this prequel, because how else could we get to see it?

The kids seem fresh out of Hexside during Alador’s Bonesborough Brawl, and this is the earliest we see if Darius’ conflict with his former friends; This is fairly early for Raine and Eda to still be a couple.

If the Teen Raeda prequel happens, it’ll probably be set within a few months; On the day Eda meets Raine, Lilith mentions that it’s seven months until the infamous coven tryouts where she curses Eda, so the show will probably be set in that time frame. Maybe it’ll explore the initial fallout of Eda being cursed, how she learned to adjust; But we’re probably looking at like, a year at most.

And if we’re going to see everything in that time frame, then let’s say that Darius splits things off with Alador and Odalia here. And that he also loses his mentor in that time frame, too; It doesn’t matter if he only knew the Golden Guard for a few months, Eda and King still believably meant the world to Luz in less time.

All of this is to say: Darius would know his childhood friends for like, ten years if we want to be super generous. And the Golden Guard for a few years, if we want to be super generous that way too. And while Darius might’ve run into the others a few more times after graduation, it seems we have a cut off point more or less around that time.

Darius would not reunite with anyone until Raine, which would happen at some point in S2A, since Scooter Crane was still head of the Bard Coven in S1B, as evidenced by the coven banners during Luz’s first day at Hexside. Otherwise, Raine was in the Bard Coven, whereas Darius would’ve been in the Abomination Coven, before moving to the Emperor’s castle after becoming coven head;

This gets me to Eberwolf; They’re absent from Eda’s little flashback, so it could indicate that they’re not going to be present in the Teen Raeda prequel. Maybe the writers will change their minds if the series is greenlit. Maybe they’ll be introduced later on, or not be as relevant. If they are in the prequel, then that just adds to my point;

We have a ~30 year gap in which Darius is in the coven, and eventually becomes a coven head, for Eberwolf to become his friend. We don’t know when it happened, but there’s so much room in the timeline. And if Eber IS introduced in the prequel, then that means they’ve been sticking with Darius the whole time since those thirty years. It’s also possible that maybe the two met as students, and then reunited when they became coven heads.

Even so, if you take into account that Darius would be 18 at most during the prequel series, and could’ve known Eberwolf and maintained a friendship across thirty years… Or at least, when they both became coven heads and started working together; Then yeah, he’s known Eber for maybe most of his life, Eber’s probably been there more than anyone else, and even if Darius did reunite with some, his relationship with Eberwolf would still continue at the same time.

So this hits a bit different, huh. Eberwolf as Darius’ only friend, his furry little emotional support animal, the only person he has left after losing everyone else. The only bad bitch in this room who gets him. I can see how Darius had to accept the possibility of sacrificing Eda, after Eda accepted the decision herself. It’s been forever since they’ve last been friends, and they just got back together as rebels so it wouldn’t. Hurt as much. And it’s not a guarantee, just a risk!

And then meanwhile we have Eberwolf who’s been with him through thick and thin, who stayed with and even survived for Darius. They don’t need to die, they’re not supposed to. He’s like a little brother and Darius might’ve even recruited them into this; Darius says he thought he was the only one who found the Day of Unity suspicious, implying Eberwolf didn’t, but trusted Darius anyhow. So he would feel responsible when Hettie threatens to kill Eber, and Eber can only look at Darius, afraid, for guidance once more; Darius got them into this, surely he can get them out of it too, right?

If Darius was mentored by the head of the Emperor’s Coven as Amity was, then why did he go for the Abomination Coven anyway? Did his mentor’s death make it too painful for Darius to go through with that plan and be constantly reminded, so he stuck to his primary talent? Did it make him suspicious of the Emperor’s Coven, if his mentor died under questionable circumstances; And so Darius opted to avoid that institution.

Maybe he did plan early on to infiltrate and upend the system from within; But on his own terms. Not as a covenscout under the Emperor’s sight. But as a major figure the Emperor will have to depend on to a degree, who is distanced enough via the framework of his own coven, as an excuse to leave the castle, and has his own resources and subordinates to maneuver.

Maybe Darius also didn’t want Alador screwing up Abomination magic, so may as well join its coven, become head witch over him, and then enact policy hostile to the concept of Abomatons. Cue a snide comment by Odalia that neither of them made it in; Of course, Darius backed out for reasons she could never understand, and still got close to the Emperor, gained his Golden Guard’s attention, etc. So he reminds her of this.

Unfortunately, Odalia created her own company as a coven of its own to compensate for this, and rather than operate outside of the system, it became intertwined with it, to the point of superseding Abominations in general anyway; And in service to the Day of Unity, no less. This is not the triumph Odalia may think of it as, but it’s still bad news to Darius because of that, even worse than he imagined once he realizes genocide is at stake here.

His skepticism was justified but in the end, Darius could not stop it… But a little Titan he helped rescue did. That Titan got Alador to undo the harm of Blight Industries’ existence, and then repaid the favor to King by taking him to the skull where he undid the Day of Unity by freeing tjd Collector. And it even led to Alador rekindling his connection with Darius... “Titan save us” indeed Darius, because he’s repaying the favor to you. Like Luz, Darius didn’t even know the relevance the first time he was kind to him, but the good he put in came back. Those furry little sidekicks really are everything huh?
