#The Last Voyage of the Demeter 2023

The last movie we went to see while we were away on vacation was The Last Voyage of the Demeter. Much like Talk to Me I think we only seen like one trailer for this and pretty much knew nothing about this movie other then it was a vampire on a ship we didn't learn that this was part of the story of Dracula until we read the opening text on the movie.

Now as for the movie itself I thought it was great I really liked it. One thing is the production design on this was really good as was the acting at least I thought so.

Now the story for this is pretty much this The ship the Demeter is heading back to London and before that they make a stop to pick up supplies and some more crew and also get paid a bonus to transport some "special cargo" these large wooden crates as well and they also add a Doctor to the ship by the name of Clemens (played by Corey Hawkins) and while on the ship during a bit of a storm some of the crates get damaged and release the hidden evil with in and the crew begins to get picked off as the remaining members and Clemens must figure out what is going on and try to stop it before it reaches London.

It is somewhat of a horror movie being about Dracula and were I didn't find the movie overly scary it was very spooky they do a really good job with atmospheric horror and as well as situational horror you kinda feel the dread and panic that the characters feel as they are pretty much locked out in the ocean with this creature that is killing them off one by one and you don't know who will be next.

The visuals for this movie were good as well like the classic burning in sunlight was nicely done but I think one of the main things was the look of the creature/Dracula and he does look more creature like in this he somewhat at the beginning looks similar to the Nosferatu type of Dracula but as the movie goes on he becomes more bat like and when you see him fully he is really more bat creature type of vampire then the more human type but he is really cool in his design.

but yeah I thought the movie was great I do think it probably would have been better if they released this in October instead of August. I think it would have fit more into Halloween season then summer movie season. but anyway I thought it was great and if you want to watch something that is a bit spooky and has a cool and interesting take on Dracula then I would recommend it.

Enjoyment: 8/10. It has been two weeks of moving and my journal being lost in the mail (re: sent to a different dorm) but bare with me. I enjoyed this film, the acting was phenomenal from everyone and the stakes were very high but also suffers from horror movie dumbness. Why do they only hunt dracula at night? Why did they take the brides out of it... well maybe they didnt? .... it was weird. Still Clemens and Toby were great. I told myself to not get attached but I did. Toby was such a compelling character and I KNEW he would die but I was hoping he would live longer (thank god he didnt tho.. traumatizing). I did not expect the bite but it was easily the best scene. Also I love a burning vampire child

Vampires: Ok. They were weird. It's like the reverse blacula where I like the other vampires more than dracula. I love their fucked up eyes and burning. It really feels like an infection that COULD be treated! The kid was the kicker. He looked worse but the emotional impact, the burn marks on his grandfather's skin and hair, he was ready to burn with him. Plus,,, sunicide? Always a win. Dracula was fugly tho and not really in the fun way. 7/10

"What I love about this movie is, "The Last Voyage of the Demeter," is the film that’s going to make Dracula scary again,” he explained to SYFY WIRE an interview before the actors strike. “I feel like this is a film that absolutely will have audiences gripped with fear watching the movie. You don’t go to see this movie to see hot vampires making out, sorry. It’s just that’s not the movie that we’ve got here. You’re going to get the crap scared out of you."

OVERVIEW: "What is it about this version of Dracula that he insists will have audiences watching the movie through a small hole between their interlaced fingers? Not only have preview images of the undead monster himself already been released showing he looks more ghoul than man, but Dastmalchian notes it's his malevolent mind that’s the most horrifying. 

“Yes, Dracula has all manner of terrifyingly ripping bodies to shreds and feeding upon the blood that he needs to strengthen himself,” the actor explained. “But there was something about the kind of twisted pleasure or satisfaction that he gets out of toying with his food. And messing with us.” 

Indeed Dracula’s physical ability to tear into a person’s body for the blood he needs inside is scary, but what’s allowed the character to endure for centuries is the brutally calculated charisma with which he baits his victims into fear and even madness — something that’s heavily at play among the crew of the Demeter.

“The psychological warfare at play as we’re being kind of batted around like mice with a giant cat… That to me was really gut-wrenching and stomach-churning,” Dastmalchian concluded. “And I think it’s, it’s really horrific. But I love it.""

So I went to see Renfield again, at a normal screening (after seeing a preview on the 11th with no trailers) and the trailer for Last Voyage of the Demeter played. Looks good, spooky and atmospheric, but then a rendition of Bullet With Butterfly Wings started playing and I lost it.

Because. I don't hear the normal lyrics for that anymore.

Instead.

I know it's a coincidence but still
