Learn how to prevent main line blockages and sewer pipe breakages caused by overgrown tree roots with our guide to preventative annual line cleanups.
Homeowners with mature trees beautifying their yards often overlook a hidden menace lurking beneath the ground: overgrown roots that can cause serious damage to sewer pipes, leading to main line blockages. If you've experienced slow drains or backups, it might be time to consider preventative measures. In this post, we'll explore why an annual line cleanup is not just a recommendation but a necessity for maintaining your plumbing system's health.
The Hidden Threat of Overgrown Tree Roots

These issues can escalate into emergency plumbing situations, requiring immediate and often costly repairs.
When it comes to maintaining your sewer lines, selecting a reputable and experienced Emergency Plumbing service is crucial.
Remember, the key to a healthy plumbing system is regular maintenance and prompt action at the first sign of trouble.
Contact Emergency Plumbing today to schedule your annual sewer line cleanup and enjoy the peace of mind that comes with a well-maintained plumbing system.

The drums reverberated through his body. The magic - it tingled in every part of him, pulsing and throbbing, pushing him toward that cave. There was blood dried on his skin - splattered across his bare chest and face, coating his hands, warm and sticky. The carcass of the white stag lay on the ground behind him, a slit running from its jawline down to the pit of its belly. Fallen leaves and the debris of the woodland floor blew around it, sticking in its blood, blanketing the body. His old dagger was thrown to the leaves on the ground - he didn’t care about that now, not with the magic coursing through him, begging him to complete the final step of the Rite. To find a maiden.
He couldn’t even feel sick at what was coming next, couldn’t even feel remorseful. The magic was too strong, too compelling, pushing him away from the dead stag.
That night he wasn’t Lucien Vanserra.
He was the Hunter.
The drums beat louder, thumping through him, enough that the ground seemed to shake beneath his feet as he dragged them over the overgrown roots toward the cave. Toward where he knew the young females of the court would be waiting, lining up in the hopes that they might be chosen. Not by him, but by the magic.
His heart beat three times faster than normal; he felt stronger than ever before. Powerful, that’s what he was. As if he really could rip the entire court apart with only a click of his fingers. His senses were heightened, everything a little clearer, a little more vivid. He could hear those drums beating as if they were right beside him, rather than on the other side of the woods. Could hear the chatter and music coming from the Rite. Perhaps if he focused that magic enough, he might be able to hear Y/N in the Night Court-
No. The magic seemed to bite at him, reprimand him. Tonight wasn’t for thoughts of Y/N. Tonight was for the maiden, for the Rite, for the magic that pulsed through him. That was why his senses were heightened, why he was there in the first place, traipsing through the woods covered in quick-drying blood that smelt so metallic, that tasted sweet against his lips where it had splattered across his face.
It had been easier than expected to kill the stag. His strength was intensified, and he had tracked the stag through the western woods, following its scent from the treeline until he found it grazing in a clearing. It had been a magnificent creature - he’d never seen the great white stag with his own eyes before, it was always dead by the time Lucien made it to the Rite.
If he had been in his right mind, he might have mourned the creature, might have felt guilt or shed a tear over the kill he had made. But the magic wouldn’t allow it, not when it still ran through his veins, still expected so much of him that night.
He was there before he even realised. The lights of the bonfires lit at the tips of the hills surrounding the wooded clearing burned down, casting a sensual glow across the place. From his position hidden in the shadowed trees at the edge of the clearing, he could already see the bodies gyrating, likely waiting for him to make his appearance and take his chosen female to the cave before they went to complete the Rite themselves. The music was so loud, the drums almost deafening.
He could see the line of girls waiting along both sides of the path that led to the cave mouth. It had been decorated, small candles laid along the pathway, bright blooming flowers surrounding the cave entrance. The females lining the sides were lit perfectly, enough that he could see each of their faces, see the way they had worn their best dresses, had prettied themselves up for him.
Movement by the cave entrance caught his eye, and he practically growled when he saw Ianthe appear, taking a spot at the very end of the pathway. But she didn’t wait by the other females; no, Ianthe took a spot right in the middle of the path, her back to the cave entrance, right in his way. She wore that same blue robe, her flowing locks cascading down her chest, but with his heightened sight he could see the rouge she had coated her lips and cheekbones with, the kohl that surrounded her eyes. Her hand was raised, a lantern swinging from her long fingers, and she was smiling, waiting for him.
He really did growl then, but…the magic pulsed. As he looked at her, the magic inside him seemed to throb longingly.
“No,” he growled out, fighting against it, fighting against the urge to go to her and claim her. He couldn’t - he wouldn’t. Not Ianthe. Anyone else, but not Ianthe.
His eyes trailed over the crowds - he could see some of the sentinels he knew well amongst the faces, Wren with his arm slung around a pretty girl, Rhyder grabbing a drink with Elias, Silas already pressed up against a handsome male with sandy-blonde hair.
Three heartbeats, and he was moving, circling the clearing until he hit the end of the pathway, each step taking him closer to the cave. The drums picked up their pace as he walked, and all eyes seemed to fall to him, their previous activities forgotten now that the Hunter had arrived. He gritted his teeth, letting his eyes wander over the females on either side of him, ignoring the High Priestess waiting at the end with a knowing, smug smirk.
The females all blushed when his eyes met theirs, raking up and down their bodies. Some had dressed modestly, the types of dresses he imagined they might have worn to the temple ceremonies that morning. Others were more skimpy, their corsets tightened to the point their breasts plumped over the top, their hair pinned back in such a way that their assets were on perfect show to him. But they all acted the same, all shy, all looking at him from under thick lashes, hoping and praying to be picked, to have that honour.
Yet, when he looked at them, he felt nothing. No push to claim them for the night, no pulse of magic or feral desire. There was nothing.
Not until he looked at Ianthe. The magic raged within him when he looked at her, urging him forward, to claim her, to devour her.
“No,” he said again through gritted teeth. Ianthe had orchestrated this, he was sure. Had made her presence known to the point that the magic was sure to pick no one else. Had set herself in his path so that he had to choose her.
It pulsed again, throbbing to the point of almost pain. Vicious and savage and untamed. A great, wild thing that he could not control, not as he looked at Ianthe and already felt himself growing harder in his trousers. He would hate himself the next day, the second the magic wore off, he knew. But there was nothing he could do - he couldn’t stop himself, not as he reached her, looked between her eyes once, warring with himself and with the magic inside him, before he leant down swiftly and sunk his teeth into her neck - the claim.
Ianthe gasped, and as much as Lucien despised it, he felt his length twitch with want. As if of its own accord, his hand gripped her wrist, tugging her into the cave behind him. The murmurs grew from the crowd, but he ignored them. He only had one mission in that moment: complete the Rite, even if it was with Ianthe.
The cave was warm inside, lit by various candles, the stone walls decorated with various flowers hung from little strings. The rocky ground had been blanketed by animal pelts, soft and comfortable. Ianthe’s hand slipped from his grip, and she sauntered to those pelts, coming to a stop in the centre of the cave. She glanced at him over her shoulder, batting her eyelashes.
“I knew you would pick me,” she said in a low, sultry voice. She pulled at the ties of her cloak, letting it fall to the ground - she had forgone underwear, leaving her nude before him, her frame silhouetted by the candles surrounding her. Lucien gritted his teeth, even as the magic pushed him forward, told him to touch her. “I told you before, Lucien; we would be miraculous together.”
Lucien’s feet moved without his consent, bringing him up behind her, his hand slipping around her waist and pulling her flush against him, grinding his length into her backside. She gasped.
Then he was pushing her down onto the pelts beneath, and her hands were pulling at his trousers, releasing his length. Then he was inside her, and the magic thrummed inside him. He didn’t take it slow - couldn’t take it slow. It was all harsh thrusts that had her screaming each time, and wild, animal-like bites against her skin that would leave bruises behind in the shape of his teeth. Each thrust pushed that magic further and further to the precipice, and the pleasure that he felt was almost overwhelming, every single inch of bliss enhanced by the magic.
He hooked her leg over his hip, pushing further into her, not caring anymore who it was or why they were there, only searching for that high, that climax of the immense bliss he was feeling. His eyes were clenched shut - there was no making this pleasurable for her, she could find her own pleasure - he just needed to find release.
His eyes snapped open, and the magic forced him to look down, and when he did, it wasn’t Ianthe’s face he saw, but rather Y/N’s. Writhing beneath him, mouth open in ecstasy, her eyes caught his, and she moaned his name, “Lucien.”
That was when he finished, Ianthe clenching around him, his name on her lips in a cry that made him truly hate himself. Because it wasn’t Y/N, not really, even if his mind - the magic - was playing tricks on him. It was Ianthe that he was fucking so harshly in that cave, who was bringing him to release, and he did hate himself for that. The magic roared and screamed inside him, and then seemed to explode outward, to the raging party outside the cave, across the entire court.
Magic replenished for another year, and he had paid the heavy price.
Tumblr media
The tea that had been shoved into your hand was bland. More than bland - it was tasteless entirely. Thirty minutes had passed since Azriel, Cassian, and Mor had dragged you from your room and forced lunch and tea on you. Rhys had healed, and had disappeared to wherever it was Mor had hidden Feyre away. You had been the one to heal Rhys as best you could in that cabin, using whatever little healing magic Lucien had taught you over various nights sat on the rug by the fire in his room. When you’d all returned to Velaris, you’d taken to helping Madja with his recovery - watching her work had been a thing of beauty.
Healing Rhys had given you something to cling on to, something to distract you. But the second Rhys was well, he had vanished to find Feyre and you had been left with nothing to fill that aching hole in your chest. Nothing to drown out the words that fluttered through your mind.
‘Lucien thinks you are the enemy. Lucien thinks you’ve betrayed him. Lucien thinks you are a Night Court spy.’
That last one was true, you supposed. You had gone to the Spring Court with the purpose of finding out information regarding Tamlin’s alliances during the upcoming war, but…Lucien didn’t realise you had done it for him. So that you stood a chance at winning this damned war, and for finding a future with him afterward.
A full forty-eight hours had passed of you wallowing in your room before the Inner Circle had stepped in, promising tea and cake in exchange for you at least trying to leave your room.
That’s how you found yourself sitting at the little tea table on the balcony of the House of Wind, three pairs of eyes trained on you expectantly, waiting for some kind of explanation, some reasoning as to why you had been so distant. They knew to an extent what had happened in the woods that day - Rhys had been quick to fill them in on everything, not just on Lucien’s wrong realisation that you and Feyre were under Rhys’ control, but also how he had left things, of the entire argument that took place at the top of that ravine. But what they couldn’t know was how much your heart was breaking, knowing what Lucien likely thought about you now.
Yet, you sat in silence, refusing to offer them even an inch. You weren’t sure you’d even be able to get the words out, to say to them that you weren’t sure Lucien even loved you anymore after everything that had happened, that you were sure he’d give up on you entirely soon enough.
You couldn’t help but wish the tea in your cup was something stronger.
It was Cassian who finally cleared his throat, running a hand through his shoulder-length locks. “We just want to make sure you’re okay.”
Your eyes slid to him, observed him. His brow was pinched, his lips curled into a curved, downward line. And his eyes were glistening with worry. It was odd, you thought, that these people who you had only known for a handful of months could be so concerned with your welfare. Your found family, that’s what they had become. But even still, you couldn’t bring yourself to say the words, ‘Lucien hates me, and I love him so very much; you’d rather choke on them.
So, your eyes drifted back to the city below, cast in golden and pink-ish hues from the setting sun over the mountains. Evening time, dark and alluring, the moment of transition when light became night. A fitting comparison, you might consider, to what you were now. Once of the Spring Court, bright and beautiful and blooming, now of Night, mysterious and dark.
No one said another thing.
It was when you drank the last sip of your tea, sliding the empty cup onto its saucer and were considering whether or not you’d given enough of your time to your friends to warrant a return to your room, that you felt it.
It started off as something small, barely discernible from the warmth that the tea had offered your stomach. But it grew so fast, so fervently, that it caught you off guard - it tingled through your entire body, pulsed in every atom of your being. That…that pleasure, insurmountable to anything you had experienced before.
You gasped, clutching at your chest, and Azriel was on his feet and at your side in a second, crouching down in front of you, hands on your shoulders. His eyes scanned you for any kind of injury as he said, “What is it, Y/N? What’s wrong?”
But your tongue was tied, unable to speak, to explain what it was you were feeling as that pleasure grew and grew and built into something so primal and raw. It wasn’t your pleasure - it was Lucien’s.
Your red smoke shot out from you, surrounding you like a shield, swirling in the air around you as if searching for the threat; there was no external threat, it was within you. Azriel stumbled back as you shot up to your feet, wobbling on your legs but forcing them forward, gasping and gaping for air as you tumbled through the balcony door and back inside the house.
You had to get to your room, had to get away from your friends. Because you realised the ecstasy you were feeling was too great to be just from Lucien pleasuring himself. No, this was from a coupling, one so strong and so powerful that it was creating such a reaction through the bond that tied you to him.
Lucien was bedding another female.
Just as you reached the bottom of the staircase that led up to your room, it exploded, and your back arched, a strangled cry escaping from your lips. There were two hands on your face, pulling it down to look at the owner as they mumbled soothing words to you.
Mor. “What’s happening, Y/N? It’s okay, I’m here. Tell me what’s happening so I can help.”
When the waves of that explosion of bliss dulled to ripples, which fell away to nothing, your body sagged forward into your friend’s arms.
“L-Lucien,” you stuttered eventually, drawing in deep breaths, regaining your strength as best you could. “H-He bedded someone else.”
Mor pulled back, confusion spreading over her face as she searched your eyes. “What do you mean?”
“I can feel it, right here,” you said, hand over your heart. “He had sex with someone else.”
She offered you a hesitant smile. “I don’t understand what you mean. How could you possibly know that? How could you possibly feel it?”
“Because he’s my mate!” You finally snapped. Mor’s jaw dropped, her chocolate-brown eyes widening. “Lucien is my mate!”
“Y-Your mate?” She repeated as if she couldn’t quite believe it.
“Yes,” you sighed. “And he’s fucking someone else.”
“Y/N-” She said, reaching forward to take your hand in hers, but you shook your head, slinking out of her grasp.
“No,” you replied quietly. “I just…I need to drink something.”
As if on cue, your smoke swirled around you, and you whispered to them your wanted destination. They carried you away in a cloud of red mist, leaving Mor blinking, wide-eyed and in shock, at the space you had just vacated.

How to Protect Your Trees from Storm Damage
Storms can wreak havoc on your property, and trees are often among the first casualties. High winds, heavy rain, and even snow storms can cause limbs to break, trees to fall, and significant damage to your landscape. However, with the right preventative measures, you can protect your trees from storm damage and keep them healthy and strong through all seasons. Burtles Backhand Dragon Tree Care Services describes how you can safeguard your trees and your property.
Regular Tree Inspections: Conduct regular inspections to identify weak or damaged branches. Remove any dead or diseased wood to prevent them from becoming hazards during storms.
Regular Tree Pruning: One of the most effective ways to protect your trees from storm damage is through regular pruning. Overgrown branches or dead limbs are more susceptible to breaking in high winds or under the weight of snow. Pruning helps to remove these weak areas and ensures that your tree is structurally sound. Professional arborists like Burtles Backhand Dragon Tree Care Services can also shape the tree, reducing wind resistance and making it less likely to fall during a storm.
Cabling and Bracing: For trees with multiple trunks or heavy branches, cabling and bracing can offer additional support. These techniques involve installing flexible steel cables and rigid rods in the tree to help redistribute the weight and reduce stress on vulnerable areas. Cabling and bracing can be particularly effective for trees with structural weaknesses or trees located in areas prone to strong winds.
Tree Health and Maintenance: Healthy trees are more resilient to storm damage, so maintaining your tree’s overall health is crucial. Regular watering, mulching, and fertilization provide trees with the nutrients they need to stay strong. Trees that are stressed from poor soil conditions, drought, or disease are more likely to succumb to storm damage. Professional tree care services from Burtles Backhand Dragon Tree Care can help you monitor the health of your trees and offer recommendations for maintaining their vitality.
Fertilization: Ensure your trees are receiving adequate nutrients to maintain their health and vigor. Regular fertilization can help trees withstand stress from storms.
Staking: If your trees are young or have shallow root systems, consider staking them to provide additional support. However, avoid over-staking, as it can hinder root development.
Assess for Structural Weaknesses:Sometimes, trees may have hidden structural weaknesses that aren't immediately visible. An arborist at Burtles Backhand Dragon Tree Care Services can assess the condition of your trees and identify potential risks before a storm hits. This assessment might include looking for cracks in the trunk, rotting wood, or poor root structures. Addressing these issues early can prevent costly damage to your property during a storm.
Remove Hazardous Trees: In some cases, removing a tree is the safest option, especially if it poses a significant threat to your home or property. Dead, dying, or severely damaged trees are more likely to fall during a storm, leading to property damage or personal injury. A professional arborist from Burtles Backhand Dragon Tree Care Services can evaluate whether a tree should be removed and ensure that the removal is done safely and efficiently.
Plan for Future Storms: Being proactive about tree care is key to minimizing storm damage. By scheduling regular inspections and maintenance with a certified arborist like Burtles Backhand Dragon Tree Care Services, you can keep your trees strong and healthy all year long. Investing in tree care before a storm strikes will not only protect your property but also preserve the beauty and longevity of your landscape.
Protecting your trees from storm damage requires foresight and proper maintenance. Regular pruning, health assessments, and proactive measures like cabling and bracing can significantly reduce the risk of storm-related damage. When in doubt, consult with a professional tree care service like Burtles Backhand Dragon Tree Care Services to evaluate the health of your trees and recommend the best course of action. Stay ahead of the storm with expert tree care services, and keep your landscape looking its best through every season. The Hidden Benefits of Professional Tree and Limb Removal: Safeguarding Lives and Property
Tumblr media
Trees are undoubtedly majestic additions to any landscape, offering shade, beauty, and a sense of serenity. However, when trees become damaged, diseased, or overgrown, they can pose significant risks to both lives and property. While the decision to remove a tree or limb may seem daunting, especially for those who cherish their greenery, the benefits of professional tree and limb removal extend far beyond mere aesthetics. In this blog post, we'll explore the hidden advantages of prioritizing safety through responsible tree management.
Mitigating Safety Hazards:
One of the most compelling reasons to remove dangerous trees or limbs is to mitigate safety hazards. Overhanging branches, weakened trunks, or trees in close proximity to structures can pose significant dangers during storms, high winds, or even mild weather conditions. The risk of falling branches or entire trees can lead to severe injuries, property damage, and even fatalities. By proactively addressing these risks through professional removal, homeowners and property managers can create a safer environment for themselves, their families, and their neighbors.
Protecting Property:
Beyond the threat to human safety, neglected trees and limbs can wreak havoc on property. Falling branches or trees can damage roofs, vehicles, power lines, and other structures, resulting in costly repairs and disruptions to daily life. Moreover, invasive root systems can compromise the stability of foundations, sidewalks, and underground utilities, leading to further structural damage over time. By removing hazardous trees or limbs before they cause harm, property owners can safeguard their investments and avoid the financial and emotional toll of unexpected disasters.
Promoting Landscape Health:
While the decision to remove a tree may seem counterintuitive to promoting a healthy landscape, it is often essential for the overall well-being of surrounding vegetation. Diseased or infested trees can serve as breeding grounds for pests and pathogens, spreading illness to neighboring plants and compromising the ecological balance of the ecosystem. By strategically removing diseased or damaged trees, property owners can prevent the spread of disease, allowing healthier vegetation to thrive and flourish in their place.
Enhancing Aesthetics and Functionality:
Professional tree and limb removal also offer opportunities to enhance the aesthetics and functionality of outdoor spaces. Removing overgrown or obstructive trees can improve sightlines, increase natural light exposure, and create opportunities for new landscaping features. Additionally, selective tree removal can promote air circulation, reduce shade-induced moisture buildup, and enhance the overall health and vitality of the landscape. By carefully planning and executing tree removal projects, property owners can optimize the beauty and usability of their outdoor environments.
While the decision to remove a tree or limb may evoke mixed emotions, it is crucial to prioritize safety and responsibility when managing vegetation on residential or commercial properties. By partnering with qualified arborists or tree removal professionals, property owners can assess the health and structural integrity of their trees, identify potential hazards, and implement proactive solutions to mitigate risks. In doing so, they can protect lives, property, and the natural environment, ensuring a safer and more sustainable future for generations to come.

Dawn stood at the edge of the kingdom. The night was still as the guards had retired for the evening and she was left alone with her thoughts. Standing at the gate she stared beyond the iron bars into the foggy night where the woods were.
 She was steps away from what could be the biggest mistake of her life. By doing this, by going out into the woods to find the cure for one of the dying trolls in the dungeon, she was betraying her families name and their status along with the throne. Her uncle, her mother, her sister, Merlin, Lancelot. All of them would tell her this is wrong. That trolls were the enemy.
 Swallowing thickly, hands glowing to illuminate the night she touched the cold stone of the castle's defense wall before brushing her fingers against the iron bars that kept the trolls and fae at bay. Hissing she pulls her hand away, shaking it to make the sting disappear. Frowning as she stares out at the woods they seem to beckon her. Walking away from the gate and along the wall she goes towards a thick patch of ivy. There hidden behind the plants was a small crack. One she found as a child and still used for situations like this.
  Slipping into the greenery rough material scrapes against her catching on her clothes but she stays determined scooting through the stone. As Ivy brushes past her face, her boots sink into the soft grass and she edges herself away from the protection of Camelot. Looking back at the castle her hands shook as she stared at her room that overlooked the very land she stood on. She'd wandered the woods many times and explored their wonders but this time was different. This time she wasn't visiting peaceful territory or exploring her magical studies in secret, this time she was going straight to the Gum Gums. She was risking everything and what made her the most nervous about it, was she didn't care. It was the right thing to do. No matter how many people said it was wrong she felt in her heart it wasn't.
 Backing away from the wall, away from her home, she realizes this could be the last time she sees Camelot if she fails. Taking it in, etching every small detail into her mind she sighs. Things used to be different. When Arthur had Gwenivere she breathed life into him and the castle. She made people hope and kept the kingdom together as the war against the Gum Gums raged on. But now the kind queen was gone and Dawn felt keeping the peace fell on her. However, as much influence as she had in the kingdom and over her uncle, Arthur never really listened after he lost his wife. He was too lost in his grief to hear reason. He banished most magic and as Dawn felt the cool air ruffle her hair she knew soon she'd be next. She couldn't fix Camelot. Not by herself but she could try and make her uncles wrongs right. Starting with the trolls he'd locked away.
 Taking one last look, the moon shines silver light over her kingdom protecting her people inside the wall. Clutching her cloak tightly Dawn closes her eyes and runs into the woods, leaving no trace that she'd ever left. She feels the grass squish beneath her feet and the whistling wind almost knocks off her hood as she runs.
 Magically summoning her silver and gold armor the chainmail echoes in the quiet woods. Her uncle had banned magic but that never stopped Dawn. Her sister did parlor tricks for fun but Dawn craved more. It was in these woods she learned the meaning of magic and through Merlin's notes she taught herself the way of the fae world. The elements were her teachers and she hoped they'd give her mercy tonight.
  Running faster each step she takes makes a resounding clank that bounces through the trees. Pushing past snagging branches, brambles, and thick underbrush she keeps going only one thing on her mind, getting that troll cure so her friend would survive. What an absurd notion, that she princess of Camelot was friends with a common troll. Smiling as she thought of him she kept pushing on, chest heaving as she thundered through the woods. Stepping over small streams and avoiding roots.
  White puffs left her mouth as she pushed on. The cold kept her awake and alert even as her legs burned from running so long. Dawn stops, armor now silent as the night returns to its previous stillness.
 Killahead.
The girl swallows nervously and takes a cautious step forward. The bridge was old and full of divine energy, she could feel its power radiating from where she stood. It acted as a divide between the world of trolls and Gum Gums. Gunmar said he owned the whole woods but that was a lie. However, past the bridge there was no doubt that was his land. As she took in deep breaths chest burning she studied Killahead. Cracked stone, worn carvings from centuries ago, and overgrown moss greeted her. A bridge that once ran over a flowing river had been dry longer than Dawn had been alive. She knew this place had power. It held generations of knowledge and stories. It could be the rise or down fall of civilizations.
But unlike the trees and forest Killahead did not talk. It just listened. Cracked stone keeping the secrets of all those that walked past it. Closing her eyes she steps away from the safety of neutral territory and towards the tarnished stone.
 Reaching out, her hand tightly clutches the side of the bridge. As she rubs her thumb over the side the stone feels smooth from years of being worn down. Stepping onto the Killahead bridge it's uneven with patches of grass slowly taking over the stone. Dawn feels the slickness of moss and dew under her boots and tightens her grip on the side she's holding as she trudges forward.
 The moon shone above her through the leaves and pausing she tilts her head taking it in as darkness was soon to come. Listening closely, closing her eyes to hear the forest around her it was too silent. She realized someone was following her, that the GumGums knew she was here. Refusing to give up just because she felt fear she stood tall as she crossed the bridge. The branches overhead now choked out any light and it was a miracle she could still see as she made it to the end of the bridge. Standing there taking a deep breath her hand grazed the moss that had taken over Killahead. This was her last chance. To turn back and run. To go back to the castle and ignore her uncles troll business. To allow him to continue what he was doing. But... she could not.
 Filled with determination she takes her first step off Killehad. Heading away from the bridge and into the deep woods she was officially in Gum Gum territory. Her weapon wasn't drawn and it was clear she wasn't an active threat. Though Gum Gums never were ones to pick up on hints, if she had to fight she came prepared but she'd rather leave the woods unscathed.
  Venturing deeper into Gum Gum territory her chainmail echoes through the dense foliage. Low hissing and rustling could be heard from the bushes as scouts watched her. Golden and green glowing eyes all around her as she boldly kept walking. Her hand was now on her hip weapon ready to draw but she hadn't felt the need yet. She was hoping to speak to a general or a higher-up GumGum and somehow barter for the cure but as the growls got louder Dawn knew she'd have to fight. She was waiting for someone to come and address her and the soldiers watching her seemed to understand her silent demand as they kept their distance.
 Hearing something Dawn reacts quickly. Turning boots sinking into the mud as she grouds herself her blade made a distinctive swish before it clanked loudly striking against Gunmars sword. Sparks fly and the temporary bright light causes her green eyes to shine under her cloak. The brute growled in her face and she growled back surprising the GumGum King.
 "You wonder deep in our territory Knight." He hisses. Dawn responds by pressing her sword harder against his. Remembering what the knights had done, she leans back before she puts all her effort into her sword pushing the blade against his forcing him back. Stumbling Gunmar catches himself. His blue eye stares at her cloak as he pauses surprised by the human's strength. Tightening her grip on her sword showing no hesitation that she'd strike again he chuffs unamused.
  His dark blue eye scans her form but all he sees is a long cloak and the shine of her sword in the dim light. Sniffing the air he chuffs surprised. It was a magical blade. A mage? Hadn't Arthur murdered them all?
 "I don't want to fight. I come seeking your aid." Dawn states tilting her head to look at the GumGum king. He couldn't see her face but he could feel her stare, those green eyes haunted him. This was no normal human. No normal mage. Chuffing he sneers tilting his head.
 "Oh? And why would I help a fleshbag morsel like you?" He snarls beginning to pace around her. Dawn followed his motions watching him closely. He admitted he was curious at what this knight could want at how someone could be so stupid and bold. They were foolish to come here but from the sword skills they showed he could see why they assumed they'd be safe.
 "Because one of your own is dying and I'm trying-" Dawn starts but Gunmar growls bearing his fangs at her.
 "SILENCE!" He roars. Dawn closes her mouth and waits. He comes close and sniffs her before huffing hot air in her face unimpressed. She reaches up to keep her hood on not wanting him to see who she really is. If he knew she was Dawna Noble of the PenDragon line it'd be over. He'd send her corpse to Arthur and her friend's life would be lost before she had a chance to win it.
 Rolling his eye, he turns annoyed by her insistent presence. "Go home whelp." He orders. "Humans speak only lies and when it isn't lies it's stupidity. Get out and don't return and you may tell your friends at the Round Table you survived. You are no meal and you're not worth the effort." He huffs waving her off. Dawn stands shocked as he begins walking away. She just ran from the safety of her home to try and save a troll's life and Gunmar doesn't even acknowledge her? He pushes her away like she's just a confused child. Grip tightening on her sword she grits her teeth shaking. She had come too far to turn back now.
 "I'm not going anywhere!" She snaps. Running to stand in front of the Gum Gum king she spreads her arms blocking his path. She's shaking making her chainmail rattle. She'd come so far he couldn't deny her now! "I came here to Gum Gum territory at night! It's important please at least listen to what I have to say." She begs. He looked annoyed and she frowned, lowering her arms. "I need something… and I know your people are the only ones who can give it to me." Stepping closer to Gunmar unafraid and praying for the life of her friend he growls at her. She's about to respond with a growl of her own when a sharp tug from her cloak made her stumble back from the King choking. She was so distracted talking to Gunmar she forgot to watch her back.
 Tilting her head clawing at the clasp around her neck the Gum Gum prince was behind her and his claws had snagged her cape. He ripped at the fabric chuckling as she gasped for air. Unclasping the cloak knowing it was her life or her identity Dawn turned eyes blazing. The grip on her sword tightened making it glow as her green eyes glared into his red ones. She sneered at the Prince of Darkness teeth bared. He stumbled back in surprise eyes wide as he stared at her armor before staring at her face. Dropping her cloak he stepped closer curious as he sniffed her. Her amor bore Camelots symbol and stepping closer he clearly saw the Noble clans markings in the carvings of her amor. Dawn pushes Bular's face away when he gets to close and he chuckles.
 "... Dawna? The King's niece? A child?" He laughs but Dawn stays undeterred. Her grip remains on her sword as she points the end at him. He chuckled amused. It seemed she was braver than the rest of her family or stupider.
 "This child." Dawn says slowly eyes narrowed into slits as she feels anger course through her veins. Her hands burn coursing with energy and suddenly the trees begin to shake as the branches above them shift. Distracted she pushes Bular over with the butt of her sword forcing him against the wet grass. The Moonlight leaked through the trees as leaves swirled around her. Had it been the day she surely would've killed him. But that wasn't her intention.
  She wanted him to see her. To fear her and as her armor shone as bright as the moon GumGums hissed backing up at the glare. "Is not one to be triffled with. I seek something and I'm not leaving till I get it." She states glaring down at Bular. He growls at her, angry she'd knocked him down but she seems unaffected by his silent threat.
 "Like we'd ever help you." Bular huffs pushing her sword away from his face. Dawn puts it back in her sheath and sighs. As she took a deep breath she could see this wasn't working. She needed to switch tactics.
 Thinking back on everything she knew of Gum Gums she paused, she'd need to choose her next words wisely. "I'm not asking for help. That's weak." She hisses. "I'm asking for a fair trade." Dawn finally says. She holds out her hand for the Prince but he snarls, snapping his teeth at her fingers. She pulls her hand away to avoid the bite and rolls her eyes. Turning away from Bular she looks back to Gunmar.
 "You have nothing we want." The troll states uninterested. Dawn hums. No she didn't, did she? What was she expecting? The Gum Gums to reach into their darkened hearts and present her the cure like a gift? This was doomed to end in a fight.
 Hand on her sword she hums as Bular shifts behind her. The brute huffs as he gets up, bumping her aside as he walks by to get to his father. Both the beasts now glared at her. Dawn wishes she could say she was without fear as they stared at her but she'd come so far she wouldn't turn back now.
   "Leave your wasting our time." Bular says uncaring of her achievements or her power. "Your so skinny we'd choke on your bones." He adds. His father laughs head bomping his son but Dawn shakes anger radiating through her. Eyes turning a dark green she feels the grip on her powers loosen. In a perfect circle around the three of them the grass dies. The two trolls watch as the plants around them begin to wither, roots twisting and cracking as wood split and leaves fluttered down. Then it all turned black rotting away. Facing them her eyes burn with a need to prove herself. The moon shines on her and Dawn's armor reflects it's light showing her power as she stood in the dead grass.
 "Then fight me. In a duel." She demands standing her tallest as she looks at them.
 She wasn't leaving without that cure. She may fall here but she falls with more grace than either of these so called warriors.
 Gunmar leans in close his horns jutting out like a crooked crown as he snarls at her. Dawn snarls back. She. Wasn't. Leaving. Without. That. Cure.
 "... Fine. You wish to die? I will not stop you." Turning Bular and him begin to stalk away. Soldiers surround her and as she draws her blade eyes wide she sees Gunmar pause. The soldiers don't advance or go for an attack. Dawn turns and Gunmar stares at her waiting. She realizes she is supposed to follow. Taking one last look back at Killahead and the safety of the forest beyond she picks her shredded cloak off the dead grass before reclasping it around her neck.
 It seems she got what she wanted.

  An hour or two must have passed making Dawn fear she wouldn't get back before Daylight. If her bed was empty when the castle awoke they'd send a search party and she'd never be aloud to leave again. Arthur would watch her every move and Merlin… she'd never be aloud to learn another spell. Trudging on through the darkness of the woods fearing that Daybreak was near she felt weak. Her legs were tired from the long trek but she knew it was worth it. She watched as they passed trees with scratch marks in them and trollish sayings and carvings she couldn't decipher. Dawn pauses touching one of the trees and tracing the carving it flashed green and the words changed allowing her to read it. Tilting her head she squints.
 "Home…?" She mumbled seeing the deep groves in the tree. Dawn felt she knew this language from a distant memory as if it had been murmered once before as if it'd been read to her. Trying to remember how she knew it, a jab to her back made her hiss.
 Poked with a guards spear she walks away and observes her surroundings closely. Seeing more trolls watching from the bushes, standing guard Dawn realized they had led her into the heart of their territory. Her eyes are wide in wonder as she looks around enamoured. She'd heard such dark stories about the GumGums home but standing here she could only feel the warmth of fellow warrior spirits.
   Tents were set up and huts made from the surrounding trees and rock. Everything was handcrafted in a way Dawn never knew trolls were capable of. Woven branches and carved rock shielded families from the cold as they laid together. Fires raged in pits and the flames made the GumGums eyes reflect as they watched her follow their king.
   Younglings ran around the camp jumping into bushes only to leap out at their friends causing squeals of joy to ring through the camp. Mothers and fathers sat and chatted as they groomed their newborn whelps, licking them clean as they made little squeaks of protest wiggling in their parents grip. Soldiers sparred and played chuffing at one other as they rolled around and smashed their helmets against each other, kits cheering them on. The more she saw the more she began to question her faith and allegiance to Arthur.
 Was this any different than home? They wove intricate baskets of grass that held food and supplies just like the weavers and potters of Camelot. There were some differences such as how and what they wove but the patterns told a story just like her people. Warriors brought back what they'd hunted putting them in piles for all to share similar to the town's trade center. Children played games with each other running around as adults took turns to watch. Was this not exactly like Camelot? Was the way the soldiers behaved any different than Camelots knight barracks or the teens copying the soldiers exactly like young squires? She could almost imagine the GumGums as humans in this light, as a thriving tribe deep in the woods who wanted nothing to do with Camelots culture.
  As she was pushed forward by GumGum spears to keep pace, she stumbled lost in her own thoughts.
 Stumbling forward trying to wrap her head around the fact that the GumGums weren't all evil she stared up at Gunmar. From this angle walking with his son he almost seemed... human. He could've eaten her or mauled her when they first encountered each other but instead he listened to her pleas and now he was giving her a chance to fight. That was more than what Arthur ever did for her. More than Lancelot believed she could do. Who was the real monster in this war? Was there even a need for war?
 Turning Gunmar meets her gaze and she looks away. She decides to study his camp as this may be her only chance. Looking around taking in the dense foliage and how they'd made it a home she felt eyes on her. Turning whelps watched her curiously blinking owlishly at her. She wonders if they've ever seen a human. Well a live human. Bending down and pausing to wave they ran off squeaking to their mothers. Staring at the troll families who held their children close and their harsh gazes as they glared at the princess, Dawn realized she was the only monster here.
 Bular chuffed amused, making Dawn blush. Of course they'd be scared of her. After all she was the enemy. Getting up and pulling her cloak closer plants nervously bloomed around her and nearby crystals glowed reacting to her emotions. She flushed embarrassed at her lack of control and quickly followed the King of Darkness, curious eyes watching as they left.
  ~~~
Lead to an arena Dawn pauses in awe. She was standing in the fabled GumGums battle room, she'd only ever heard stories. She never thought she'd see this place. Looking out at the various weapons placed around their training space. There were axes, swords, spears, javelins, maces, and other weapons she didn't recognize. Her green eyes widened in amazement studying the colosseum from the balcony they stood on. It overlooked everything and she was determined to write this down and document it later. The arena was large and wide carved out from the center of the mountain, hidden deep in the core. She could see statues of fallen warriors decorating the rims of the arena. Stone steps carved from years of work circled the colosseum allowing trolls to watch as others spared. She also noticed dents in the walls and wondered about the battles that caused such scars.
 Running forward Glowing Green crystals jutted from the ground and tapping one, it glowed brightly reacting to her touch. Her heart swelled at the magic in this room, the history. She felt an ancient power in this place and could feel the souls of thousands of trolls who had fallen here. It was exhilarating unlike anything she'd ever experienced. Unlike anything in Camelot.
  "Our rules are simple fleshbag." Gunmar states demanding her attention. Turning away from the balconies edge and focusing on him he snarls from his place on his throne beginning. Skulls decorated his seat and Dawn swallows before meeting his gaze listening closely. "Rule One. Always finish the fight and never hesitate." He states slamming his hand onto an old skull crushing it. Dawn nods aware of this troll custom despite how much she despised it. "Rule Two it must be your blade that ends the fight it can not be your enemies." Holding her sword tightly Dawn understands this. If she lost her weapon she could not use her opponent's to end them.
   Gunmar smirked, leaning forward on his throne of bones as he chuffed in her face. Hot air sent her hood back and made her long hair shift as he leered down at her. "And Rule Three young mage. No magic." He instructs.
 Dawna chokes hearing the last demand. No magic? Since when was that a Gum Gum rule? She was never informed that would be part of the deal. Looking over at Gunmars son she brings her sword close.
 Bular was at least twelve feet tall and Gunmar fifteen. She was a third their size, maybe half at best.
 Without her magic it would be impossible to defeat either of them. She could fight but she didn't have proper training in dueling only practice from when she copied Lancelot. Not to mention the split swords she'd brought were magic. She'd only have the weak weapon she swiped from the knight hall which to a troll was barely a dagger. She wasn't even sure it could go through a trolls skin. As they watched waiting for an answer, Dawn's hands clenched beginning to glow. She supposed magic would be an unfair advantage but wasn't it unfair to make her fight without it? Magic was apart of her, apart of this place. To deny her such a large part of herself… Trembling she felt sick. Perhaps Gunmar and Arthur shared more than she assumed.
 "Well princess?" Gunmar sneers the title like an insult before smirking, licking his fangs. "What is your decision? Do not waste our time." Dawn shakes. He thinks her a coward, a cheat but she would always keep true to her word. She came here. She had to finish this. Looking at her hands before closing her eyes she takes a deep breath. The glow dies and their left in the dull light of the green crystals.
  Looking up and nodding Gunmar chuffed staring at her. Sighing, she looked down at herself allowing her armor to fade away. She felt naked without her protection but If they considered magic cheating then she would respect their rules as she was on their land.
  "I do not cheat. I do not need magic to win. And if I fall there's no one to go back to anyways..." Closing her eyes thinking of home she knows either way she wins. She either dies and meets Gwenivere in Avalon or she returns to the castle and saves her friend's life.
  Whispering a prayer to her family and hoping this was not her last night alive Dawn nods. She stands before the King and Prince unarmored and defenceless cept a small blade she held. Gunmar turns and not a moment later an attendant walks in carrying what Dawn feared most. Ravenstone.
 Rare and made from the dust of fallen magic users ravenstone blocked any magic from being used, containing the energy and even stealing it if a mage was around it too long. She holds the stone in her hands when the attendant passes it to her and pauses seeing they were cuffs.
  She swallows as they watch her and closing her eyes she slips them on wearing them as bracelets. Shivering Dawn could feel them working, they would not only block her magic but drain her energy as well. She'd have to be smart in this battle or she'd surely fall.
  Rubbing the cuffs nervously she feels the intricate runes carved into the stone. They told the story of her kind, the origin of magic. A  zap of electricity goes up her arms making her feel more powerful despite the impediment. "I do not intend to lose." She states boldly. Bular chuffs sword dragging against the ground. Neither did he. Turning towards the arena she begins walking down the stairs, the brute following her.
  It seemed Bular had decided he would be her fighting partner and Gunmar their witness.
 Waiting at the bottom she paused. Spinning the sword in her hand she stared into the steel looking at her reflection. If she died today she died a hero. If she won it wouldn't be long lived. Dictatuous was running out of time. He needed the cure. Now.
  Attacking her while she's distracted, Dawn quickly focuses back on Bular, on the battle. Their swords clash against each other creating sparks as they glare at one other. She was tired, had less fighting experience, and was weaker. Smirking Dawn pushed Bular back, she guessed that made this a fair match.
  Clawing at the ground gaining his footing he snarls and charges at her. Dawn thinking quickly jumps up and flips over him as he swings his sword where she had just stood. Landing she turns holding up her blade as his crashed against hers. He sneered pushing down and she cries out feeling the increasing pressure as he pushes down. Huffing she kicks him back making both of them skid.
 She breathes deeply grip tightening. The battle had just begun and she knew she was outmatched. Shifting her position she glances up at Gunmar. He sat on his throne overlooking their battle, watching amused. His eye met hers and she stares wondering what he must think of her, of his son before Bular crashes back into her, sending her backwards. Hitting the ground she rolls rocks digging into her skin. Her shirt catches and she hisses as the cloth rips open and slashes her flesh making blood spill. The first blood drawn from battle.
  Getting up she stares at Bular. She couldn't get distracted. This wasn't like home, if she lost here she wouldn't get back up again.
  Bular stalks towards her grinning as he dragged his two swords. Taunting her as they scratched deep groves into the floor. In the green light of the jagged crystals his eyes glowed and Dawn saw a blood lust she'd never seen before. Ducking behind a rock as he slashed his swords at her she inches around it before she rolls forward going under his legs aiming at his ankles. Making contact she quickly scrambles up also hitting him in the back right above his kilt. Holding her sword waiting for a counter attack the Prince roars. Snarling he turns, swords hitting her with so much force she's slammed into a wall. Making contact she drops her sword, gasping as she grabs her side. He'd gotten her. Twice now. But so had she. They were even. Grimacing in pain eyes wide in fear she stares up at the warlords son.
 "Look at you. Tiny and weak human. You thought you could best me? I am the son of Gunmar! I am a conquer! And now for your ignorance you shall fall." He states raising his swords above her head. Eyes darting around Dawn smirks. Kicking him in the grocknuts as hard as she can he roars, dropping his swords and whimpering. She grabs her own weapon before charging. Kicking him backwards again she slashes at his chest causing black blood to spill.
 "Miserable human your death will be painful for that!" He threatens as he smacks her away with his arm. Falling back sword clattering as it slips out of her hand once more Dawn groans.
Her breathing is rough as she shakes. Bular picks up his blades and as she kicks back trying to reach her sword his claws dig into her ankle pulling her towards him. He huffs hot air into her face keeping her pinned and she stares at him. He raises a sword but moving her head the blade simply sinks into the ground next to her. He snarls and she snarls back, body burning with pain but brimming with determination. She could not fall.
 Smashing her head against his he hisses in pain, stumbling back as she stands. Blood drips into her eye and her ankle burns from the deep cuts but she still stands tall. "I don't intend to lose." She sneers and he growls at her. Tackling her to the ground Dawn grunts but smirks. He'd pushed her closer to her blade.
 Smiling Bular stared down at her ready to smash her head in right as her sword pierced his side and went straight through his ribcage. She missed his heart intentionally though she wonders how his face would've looked if he had been beaten by such a "weakling" as herself. Smiling as warm blood dripped onto her hands from the wound she'd inflicted she forced him back before climbing on top of him straddling him. Grabbing his horns and pushing his head down she glares down at him huffing.
 "You you you!!!" He roars thrashing but Dawn keeps one hand on the sword threatening to push it all the way through if he didn't listen. The other rested on his horn keeping his head down.
 "Yield Bular. You've lost." Dawn snarls. Their battle was intense and she almost fell but Bulars cockiness had been his downfall. Her hair falls onto his face as she breathes deeply staring into his eyes. Bular chuffs growling at her but her hand remained on the hilt of the sword reminding him she could end him if she chose. She'd done it. Bloody but not broken she'd beaten Bular the Butcher.
 "MY SON!" Gunmar screeches from his throne ready to charge. Dawn turns holding out her hand that'd been on Bulars horn. The GumGum king paused snorting at her boldness.
"I'll make a deal." Dawn states. "Declare I've won and I'll take off the raven cuffs, I'll heal him, and we never speak of this. And..." She takes a deep breath in blood still dripping from her wounds. "You give me what I desire." Dawn offers. Gunmar chuffs staring at her then Bular. Bular who was covered in blood and beaten by a mere mortal. His son. His legacy. Who was this girl?
There's a long pause where the only sound is Bular and Dawns wheezing breaths. Dawn and Gunmar stare at each other and finally Gunmar chuffs looking away.
"You have won." He growls lowly.
"Father!" Bular snaps before roaring at the movement. The pain from the inflicted wound was unlike anything he'd ever felt. Dawn turns eyes wide as she holds the sword still to keep it from hurting him further.
"Silence! You have lost Bular let the witch work!" Dawn nods and ripping off the cuffs she takes out the sword before placing her hands against the wound. His stone was warm despite being rock something she wasn't expecting. The texture was rough and marred threatening to slit her hands open if she didn't work carefully. Black and red stained her hands their blood mixing together and as her eyesight blurred she prayed that after the battle her magic was strong enough to heal him.
Closing her eyes focusing Bulars breathing and chuffing gets louder as electricity courses through his veins. Dawn feels the wound close under her fingertips slowly and putting more energy into it, more thought the GumGum Prince stares amazed as the rock melts and melds before becoming a small scar against his chest. Almost as if she'd never struck him in the first place.
Dawn pulls back still straddling him and he stares at her. This small human who just put him on the brink of death only to save him. Who was this human? This Dawna Nobel?
"... Can I please get the troll cure and go home now?" She begs falling off the dark prince to lay on the ground besides him. They both lay still after their battle, taking deep breaths in.
~~~
 Gunmar held the potion as Dawn smiled. She had a small cut above her eye from headbutting Bular and a gash on her arm and leg from rolling on the ground but she'd done it. She got the cure to save Dictatious. Taking the bottle into her hands Gunmar leaned close.
"Do not let me see you here again." He chuffs. "And do not take this potion lightly. It could destroy my people but I put my trust in you as you've been the only honorable human I have met in some time. You bested my son and for that you will not be underestimated again." Holding the bottle close, feeling the warmth of it's magic through the glass Dawn looks at Gunmar and nods. That was the closet to a compliment she'd ever get from the GumGum King.
"You have my word Gunmar." Smiling she turns facing Killahead before she fades into the shadows disappearing.
Sputtering as she falls into one of the many castle halls, Dawn can't breathe as she lays flat on the carpet. Breathing deeply her hands dig into the lush fabric as her eyes go blurry. Groaning light leaks from a nearby window onto her face and she sees it's sunup, sometime in the early morning. Grunting body burning in pain as she slowly gets up she begins to limp down the hall sweat and blood dripping down her face. But holding the potion close she can't bring herself to care about her pain. Heaving in air, she could feel the night and the toll of magic finally catch up to her. However she couldn't quit rest yet. Clawing at the wall as she continues walking she pulls herself forward cradling her prize close.

Dawn paused looking around the corner. The guards that were usually stationed for prison duty were gone on shift leave, giving her a window of opportunity. Opening the door that led to the dungeons quietly she sneaks inside to the staircase before closing the door. Staying in the shadows and avoiding the torches she creeps down the stairs careful not to make a sound. Peaking, her head out she sees most of the trolls were resting or trying too. Hacking could be heard and she winces, listening to Dictatious as he continued to cough.
 Walking quietly across the stone floor, trolls don't pay her cloaked form any mind. Standing near his cell she holds the mug of tea and potion close. She'd changed her clothes to look more presentable. She'd also slipped into the kitchens when no one was looking to grab a few things. Holding the potion and tea in her hand she pauses outside his cell. She could study the potion Gunmar gifted her, reverse it. Make a weapon and wipe out the GumGums once and for all. Magic would finally be respected. Arthur would respect her. But...
 Hearing his loud pained coughs Dawn closes her eyes as she pours the potion into the tea. She sticks the cup through the cell bars allowing Dictatious to take it. The hacking stops and Dawn slowly opens her eyes. Dictatious looks at her untrusting and she frowns her hand with the tea shaking.
  "Please it'll help I promise..." She begs him. He blinks before looking at Dawn through the bars that seperated them, all six eyes peering into her soul through the darkness of the dungeon.
 "... why?" He asks voice barely above a whisper as he forces it out of his raspy throat. He had gotten worse while she was gone but she believed Gunmar had fulfilled his deal as she had hers. That his sickness would be cured once he drank what she'd fought for and that he'd live just as she had.
 "Because this is wrong and I'm sorry. Please..." Dawn continues to offer the cure, cloak hiding her face but Dictatious knew her. She was the King's niece. She was Camelots jewel. She was that girl who would sneak into the woods to learn magic and come down into these dark dungeons to hear the stories he told other trolls to keep their hopes up.
  He sniffed the tea, it was a spicy moss blend that Dawn found many trolls enjoyed. The ingredients in the kitchen were slightly different from what trolls used but she hoped it'd appease him. Dictatious and her were by no means close but she wanted to amend that. They'd met in the woods when she was small, he'd helped her home. And once more he'd seen her practicing magic and had gifted her a troll book about ancient spells. She'd hated trolls for months after Gweniveres passing. She'd hated her magic but then she remembered. She remembered her aunts love and kindness. Her passion for the arts and her interest in magic. She would not let Arthur get away with this if she was still alive. But she was dead so it was Dawn's responsibility now.
  It helped that Dictatious told stories whenever she came down to explore the dungeons. Although they never directly interacted he showed her not all trolls were evil. Before he got sick he spun tales of his world explaining magic in a way Dawn had never heard before. He was not a beast like Arthur described and she couldn't bear for him to die when he became sick and could no longer tell his stories. She couldn't stand that these trolls were trapped, that so many had died here. But for now all she had to beg for forgiveness was the potion.
  "..." Dictatious studies Dawn humming as he looks her over. He takes the cup, his hands touching hers. She smiles and he looks grateful as he takes the warm mug. Looking at the princess with glazy eyes he snorts amused. "You are not like your family. You are different..." Dawn tilts her head but he doesn't add on as he chugs the drink. Once done he hands the cup back before curling into a ball on the dungeons cold floor. Dawn stares at him panicked. Had it been poison? Was he dying? Had she killed him? Had Gunmar lied to her?
 "Dic…?" Going to open the cell bars she paused watching his chest slowly rise and fall. Sleeping. The troll was just resting. Sighing and letting out a laugh Dawn falls against the bars exhausted. Chuckling she hugs her knees close. As she looked at Dic slumbering and listened to the rumbling trolls around her, her eyes fluttered. Yes she could use some of that too...
~~~
 Dawn feels a hand on her shoulder. She startles awake looking around confused before she remembers visiting Dic in the dungeons. Groaning she isn't sure when she dozed off but apparently she had.
 "You stayed?" Turning Dawn takes off her cloaks hood and pauses seeing Dictatious look at her. Smiling she stands, excited the potion worked as he looked much healthier.
 "You're up." She states ignoring his previous remark. Studying him he seemed to be in good health despite the terrible circumstances. Dic hums in response reaching his hand through the bars to touch Dawns face. "Are you well?" She asks ignoring as he poked her.
 "I am but what of you? What happened to you?" Dawn blushes remembering the bruises and cuts all over her face from the duel. She didn't have the energy to deal with them last night. Letting out a chuckle she shrugs it off.
 "Don't worry about it." She responds, muttering a quick spell to heal her injuries. Dictatious watches with wide eyes as the cuts slowly close and the swelling goes down. She still had some light bruising but she looked much better. He had not seen her last night in the darkness of the dungeon but he'd recognized her scent and voice. Plus she was the only human who really came down here other than the Knights.
 "You are a very strange human." He states crossing his arms. Chuckling Dawn nods. She was indeed different than her family.
 "Can you walk? What about run?" She questions suddenly. Dictatiouses face scrunches as he tilts his head. What was she planning now?
 "Yes I feel fine now but why?" He asks. Dawn nods at him before she summons her armor. If she'd fallen asleep against the cells in the morning than it had to be dark now.
 "You've been here long enough. All of you. It's time you go home." She states.
 "Dawna what are you doing?" Dictatious demands grabbing at her arm but she was already walking away from his cell to the center of the room. Making the torches burn bright, light fills the room showing Dawn.   "... You don't know me!" Dawn addresses them and the sound of grating stone can be heard as they turn and shift towards her. Eyes of all shapes and sizes watching the girl speak. "But I believe Trolls aren't evil. And I promise you, neither are humans. I do this because what my uncle Arthur did to all of you was wrong. I do this to show we're not all like him." Dawn fueled by saving Dic holds up her hand and all the cadges glow. Trolls gasp backing away before the locks suddenly click and the doors swing open. They… they were free? "Follow me and I'll lead you home!" Pulling her hood up Dawn runs out of the dungeon towards the castles entrance and the trolls, goblins, stalklings, and gnomes follow. Dictatious pushes past other trolls and rushing out of his now opened cell runs to be in the front right next to her.
 "Dawna this could be your title! This could be everything. Your very life! What are you doing?" He demands pulling on her arm but she just smiles, winking at him.
 She leads a charge, directing the various creatures through the castle. Bigger creatures pick up smaller or sicker ones to help them keep up. The freed trolls follow behind her trusting the emboldened mage who had saved them. Their thundering footsteps echoing through the castle.
Making it to the front entrance she bursts the door open with her magic, leading everyone out of the castle and through the labyrinth of Camelot cobblestone streets before finally arriving at the gate. Focusing and saying a spell she hoists the iron bars open and they nod at her in thanks before they run.
 It was early morning and the sun slowly begins to rise but for now there was enough shade for the night creatures to travel safely. Dawna can hear commotion coming from the castle as knights scurry around trying to find the escaped trolls and missing princess. Laughing as she watches the trolls flee, seeing them return home to the woods her chest flutters in happiness. She'd done it. She'd used magic and she'd freed them.
  Feeling a pull Dawn stumbles almost dropping the gate and pausing she turns.
  "Lets go." Dictatious states yanking at her hand. She blinks surprised before staring at the troll.
  "What?" She asks softly. He pulls again wanting to drag her into the woods with him. With all of them. Some trolls pause on the bridge looking back and waiting for her decision.
 "Come with us. Please." Dawn blinks before she stares at Dictatious. Tilting her head she gazes outward, to the woods and their lush forest. With the freshest of fruits and gorgeous flowers. With friends. With Safety. With Magic. With sparring. And Freedom. She'd have freedom. She feels another pull and hesitantly she takes a step back so she doesn't go running away with them.
 "My family is here..." She mumbles but she longs to leave with Dictatious. To go to their troll safe haven and explore the troll world. Too read endless books and immerse herself in their culture and magic. Too see what she'd only heard stories about. To become what she could only dream.
 "You don't belong with them." Dictatious lightly bumps her head with his before squeezing her cheeks. Dawn is confused but laughing she smiles realising he had just given her the equivalent of a platonic troll kiss. He saw her as kin and he wanted her safe. She didn't belong in Camelot anymore did she? Her home was the wild surrounded by trees and magic not cobblestone and iron. But if she stayed she could help and maybe someday she would ascend to the throne and she could fix things. She could repair the damage done by Arthurs anger and she could rule with Gweniveres love.
  The loud clanking of armor gets closer and Dawn hugs Dictatious feeling his rough stone against her before she pushes him to flee. He runs understanding her decision but at the end of the bridge he hesitates sending her a hopeful glance. He waits but Dawn simply bows a last goodbye and he nods taking off into the safety of the woods. Looking up again about to bring the gate back down Dawn pauses.
  Gunmar stood at the edge of the woods watching. Tilting her head he nodded slowly at her. He did not trust humans and the Royal Family was at the top of that list but Dawn hoped she had earned his respect. If she ever fell by his hand she hoped it would be a quick merciful death. Something he granted few.
 The iron bars slam down as her magic burned out, separating her from the woods and all that lied beyond. Dawn signs looking away. Once again she was trapped.
~~~
 Gunmar stood at the woods edge peering into the Humans putrid village. He had come to scout and see if Dawna would keep her word. If the potion she won truly was for a troll or if she was lying and planned to use it against them and slaughter his troops. His single eye widened as the gates opened. He growled ready to tear open her throat but paused as a flood of magical creatures poured out rather than the army he was expecting. He could see trolls of all kinds, stalkings, gnomes, and goblins and amongst them stood an unafraid Dawna. They towered over her and had ten times her strength and yet she didn't fear them. They all left and Dawna was alone. Going to turn and leave he paused. Some trolls remained. A cloaked troll had stayed back and now they were clinging to her. Even from the distance he could see they were small and sickly, barley recovered despite the potion it seemed. The troll pulled at her as the others encouraged her to leave with them. Gunmar snorted enraged at the notion they'd invite her into the woods.
  The girl simply nodded no, trying to urge them to leave. A wise decision on her part. The troll looks up and saw he was running out of time, the light was coming and with it his death if he didn't hurry. He leaves but Gunmar watches him hesitate. The trolls look back and Dawn smiles before bowing goodbye. The trolls run to the shelter of the trees and the princess watches them leave. The gate is about to drop before her green eyes lock onto him. Their gaze meets and she slowly nods to him. The gate slams down separating them before he can respond and he hums watching her run off as knights come. Perhaps if things were different. If she was born a troll or even a GumGum in another life they could've been allies. Maybe even friends. He turns feeling saddened that she chose to remain imprisoned when she clearly could be free. What an odd human.

The Ties That Bind 10 of ???
The ruins were exactly as advertised. Ancient remains of stone and tile work sat in overgrown disarray, the only thing holding parts of it together were the living roots clinging to the ancient bones. It felt haunted, in a way that battlefield did not. The fields were about death, and nothing more. This was once a place of life, and it’s current lack was only underscored by the verdant growth that had moved in to take the old inhabitants’ place.
“I thought you said nothing grew here,” I muttered to Karashan to cover my unease.
The general shrugged. “Nothing arable.”
Raymond snorted and began scouting around sorting through foliage in one way or another, following some reason I couldn’t decern. I decided to follow him, at a loss for what else to do. And it kept Rei from hovering, as I had a guard. I had a feeling I was going to spending a lot of time with Raymond and Karashan. I was absolutely avoiding my would-be pairbond. I did not want to have this conversation.
”What are you looking for?”
“Forest fruits,” Raymond answered absently, elbow deep in a tangle of briars. “Just because a land can’t be farmed doesn’t mean it can’t provide.”
I watched with genuine interest, helping carry his harvest and trying to remember his points as he spoke. He pulled berries out of thickets, apples off of branches I’d have passed over, and marked the passage of game animals. Raymond made a good teacher; I remembered it was trait he shared with his cousin. It was bittersweet, working with him, but I did my best to focus on the sweet. It wasn’t too hard; the work was interesting and fulfilling. I’d only seen our farmland from above, never walked down among the rows, let alone helped in the harvesting. These weren’t the tidy rows of our grain fields, but it was still closer than I’d ever been to my own food.
 “And the water?” I asked, as we returned to the central clearing and its ominous covered well.
 “Unpredictable,” he said shortly. “I think something happens further upstream and contaminates it.”
 I blinked. “So its not a proper well, then, dug straight down?”
 He shook his head, gesturing back behind us towards the mountains and Hawk’s Keep.
 “Everything runs down from the mountain. Sooner or later, what happens up there trickles down to everyone else.”
 I frowned at his word choice, knowing he was talking about more than just the water.
 Raymond was unlike any of the other soldiers I’d ever met. All the Flight was friendly with me--we all spent too much of our time together for us not to be--but only Rei crossed that line into true familiarity. Raymond, I guessed, had probably known me as a child, or at least of me. I wished I could remember more of Vasili’s family. They’d almost all been soldiers, I thought, or maybe just the one’s I’d know had been soldiers. Maybe he had family out in the fields like Elanor did.
 I was about to ask him when Andreios alighted before us, jarred the switch from raven to man. It could be an elegant and leisurely process. But Rei had switched back almost before he’d properly landed.
 “They’re coming.”
 His tone was so sour there was no doubt who he meant. And sure enough, Zane and Adelina crested a small ridge, Zane waving merrilly as he caught sight of us.
 He’s so odd, I thought, watching him flow down from the rise. Everyone around him is singing with tension, and he’s waving like we’re old friends. I wondered if that was just his nature, happy and enthusiastic, or if he was doing it to piss off Rei. Or maybe Adelina. Or maybe it was all three, or something I hadn’t considered at all. He was a mystery to me, but a puzzle I was keen to suss out. I liked this kind of wondering and second guessing. It was like a game of chess. I had a feeling Zane would be good at chess, and the gambling games of  cards and coins that passed the soldiers’ time in the barracks. Anything that called for a strategy, and the ability to think on the fly, and play to your opponent’s expectations.
 Like war.
 I tried not to frown at him as he approached, but that last thought had soured my mood. I wondered who’d be to each other if we’d grown up only neighboring monarchs. Perhaps we’d have been promised to each other as children, a way to solidify good relations between our peoples. It was such an absurd thought it almost made me laugh. At least it helped me smile when Zane and Adelina were near enough to see it. I was glad to see my flights of fancy could be good for something.
 “Well, it seems we’ve both had good hunting,” Zane said cheerily as he took in our “harvest”. He behaved for all the world like he was out on a picnic, completely ignoring Erica, Emune, and Karashan fanning out behind him and Adelina.
 “And what were you hunting?” I asked, adopting his same casual tone. If it worked for him, it worked for me. I was accustomed to ignoring my Flight when they were working, and being falsely light and at ease was closer than second nature.
 “Shelter. There’s something like an old rsh, ah, meeting place,” he ammended almost flawlessly, “just over that rise.”
 “I didn’t see any buildings,” Rei said grumpily. I’d have wondered at his open unhappiness if it weren’t for Zane. It was clear the cobra made him forget every ounce of his reserve or restraint. I was glad of it, in a way. It meant I didn’t have to wonder where my guard captain stood.
 “Nor have I,” Karashan added, “On any of our scouting trips. This place is No Man’s Land.”
 Raymond made a sound behind me, but Zane openly scoffed.
 “I didn’t say we’d found a building, I said we found a rsh, a nest. They’re always built into the trees--” His words cut off, and it didn’t take much insight to guess that he’d been about to comment on how they’re not meant to be noticable from above. Diplomatically, he continued, “It would take a serpiente to find one. Even from the ground, they’re well hidden if you don’t know what you’re looking for.”
 “It’s true, my lady.” Erica had stayed glued to Zane’s side, either eager to prove herself, or eager to stick a knife in his back and beg forgieness later. I’d have worried more, but Karashan had stayed glued to Erica. “I saw the pair of them slip between the trees and it was like they weren’t even there. But the shelter checks out, and it has a place for a fire and provisions.” It was clear from her tone that she’d checked it over with a soldier’s eye, with a minnd for defensibility and praticality. I more selfishly wondered about comfort.
 When I’d suggested I spend the week with Zane, I’d been envisioning staying at the Lyssia’s farmhouse, or at the least not out of doors. I don’t know what I’d expected from a place called “the ruins”, but I was not prepared to take an extended camping trip with Zane Cobriana.
 Was that petty of me? I’d thought it was rather big of me to suggest spending the week with him at all. Wasn’t it reasonable to expect to spend that week in physical comfort, since it was guarenteed to be about as emotionally uncomfortable as possible?
 But I followed them up the rise, into the trees, and was glad we’d set out at first light. It gave us plenty of time to check over the whole place, and hopefully to discover there was no other option but to return to the farm house for a hot meal and a regroup.
 Erica was the first to disappear, walking right between two trees and simply vanishing. Emune cried out, but Karashan touched his shoulder and held him back.
 Adelina went next, and the pair of them pulled back whatever covering obscured the opening. The space was close and dark, a yawning void between them. I did not care for that symbolism one bit.
 But Zane strode forward without any visible concern, and Karashan went in after him, leaving me with the men of my guard.
 I looked to Rei, not sure what I was asking him but feeling the pleading in my eyes. I think if Emune and Raymond hadn’t been there, he might have pulled me to him, might have whispered a chastizement, or an endearment, or something. But we had an audience, and Zane had poked his head back out of the dark.
 “It’s brighter than it looks from the outside. Come inside, and I’ll show you all the secrets of a rsh.”
 His crooked grin was too tempting, infectious in its enthusiasm. He was clearly delighted to have stumbled upon this part of serpiente history, and his eagerness to share it with me was catching. So I simply nodded, taking the hand he offered to help me in over the tangle of roots. I thrilled at the touch of his hand--then stiffened at the touch of his other hand on my waist.
 I nearly tripped in my haste to pull away, which, of course, only made him hold on tighter.
 “Easy there.”
 Before I could form any protest, Erica’s dagger was out--and Adelina’s blade tipped stave. Their reactions immediately shifted mine, from outrage at Zane’s impropriaty to the ever present frustration at everyone’s haste to jump to violence.
 “Hold!”
 The command in my tone surprised even me, but I didn’t let it show.
 “Zane startled me. It cannot come to blows every time one of us flinches or moves too swiftly. This is why we can’t stop the fighting, don’t you see that? Stop being soldiers for two blessed minutes and just be guards. You’re here to protect us from outside threats, not each other.”
 “But my lady,” Erica insisted, “If I do not stay at the ready, I will not be fast enough to react to them. Serpiente are just too fast.”
 I let her see all the tiredness in my eyes, and the frustration and disappointment and exasperation.
“If he strikes me out here, Erica, then let him strike me. Let him end the Shardae line here and now, and let every sparrow, crow, and raven bow down to their new Diente, or fly away to the island of Ahnmik. Either way, I am done fighting him. Do you understand that, Erica?”
Erica gave me a long, potent look, and I could see all the thoughts swirling behind her eyes. But what she said was,
“I have sworn to give my life’s blood in defense of my queen and her heirs. I cannot stand by and allow harm to come to you. My oaths do not allow it.”
“Then go home!”
I didn’t mean to shout at her, but I just couldn’t stand it anymore.
“If you cannot serve me in peace, then go home. Return to my mother, return to the generals, return to the war that no one can seem to let go of! I am done fighting. I’m done. If I live to take my oaths as Tuuli Thea, I will have no use for soldiers. If Zane kills me now, then I was never meant to wear the crown anyway. Because I cannot look at that man and summon up any bloodlust. I cannot stare into garnet eyes and see anything but a dying little boy, hurt and alone. I can’t seem to find the hatred that keeps you all going. Maybe if I’d been aloud to mourn anyone--“
My voice broken on a sob, every tear I’d never shed rising up all at once to choke me. I turned away, but there was no away in this tight press of people. Half a dozen soldiers, and one of them with my dead alastair’s face--
I spun in the other direction and simply ran.

────── ☽. ✧₊∘ ──────
When you open your eyes, you find yourself already succumbing to the beast’s luxury. The guest bedroom was drastically different from yours back at the castle. Instead of a crowded bunker with poorly made beds, you continue laying upon the silk sheets alone in a spacious room as you soak in the warm sunlight that poured through the window. You breathed in deeply, finally away from the musty smell of body odor and sweat that once choked out your lungs.
You didn’t sleep for very long, but awoke to the sun beaming high in the sky; right before noon. Despite your more courteous morals, your stomach was a vicious entity that halts for no one. In an attempt to quickly resolve this issue, you scrambled to the door. The floor beneath you creaked every other step you took, but hunger was more important that being quiet.
Eventually, you find yourself stood in the middle of the kitchen. It’s empty, but the lingering scent of food guided you to a loaded plate of... breakfast? Before you know it, you’re chowing down like a drunkard who found their calling.
Loud thumps approach the kitchen, and you see the beast’s head poke in. Correction: Namjoon’s Dragon head poked in. With wide archways and plenty of head space, the rest of the beastly body enters the kitchen. Large pots and pans clang as his figure searches vigorously through the shelves. At last, he snuffs out a bottle with a strange liquid inside.
Namjoon hastily consumes its strange contents before a puff of smoke appears in the air. You are all but staring, trying to not be awed at the magic taking place. Namjoon returns to his human form, albeit with a disgusted look on his face.
“Ugh,” he sighs,” The taste is just something I’m never gonna get used to, is it?” Namjoon mutters to himself before he notices you at the dining table.
He smiles to you as he slides into the seat across from you. “The potions turn me back, but only temporarily.” He looks down at his hands with a reminiscent look upon his features. “My youngest brother, Taehyung, wasn’t very skilled back then when he made these, but it gets me through when I go to the market. Speaking of which, we need a game plan.”
“.....what does that have to do with your brother?”
“My family is a conglomerate of issues; Hell, my brother turned me into a damned dragon after all.” He chuckles softly to himself. “It’s better this way if you know, but then again, you don’t have to help me. I won’t force you to share this burden.” Namjoon meets your eyes, and for the same compelling reason that made you stay the first time, you responded.
“It’s alright Namjoon, I will help you seek justice.”
“There were three brothers,” He started the tale of his tragedy.” From youngest to eldest: Kim Taehyung, Kim Namjoon, and,” He pauses for a moment. He tears his eyes away from you as the name falls from his lips. “....Kim Seokjin.”
You couldn’t hide the shock that wipes across your face. After all the years you’ve been alive, this was the first time you ever thought about King Kim’s family. You had always thought that he was the only son, even when rumors of other family members were whispered throughout the village.
“Seokjin may be the eldest, but he’s also a hopeless romantic. So much so, he became unfit to be king when he disobeyed one of the Ten Commandments.” Namjoon shakes his head in dismay. “Thou shalt not kill.” His voice breaks as he struggles to continue,” In a fit of jealousy and rage he... he murdered a woman who didn’t return his feelings. Instead, she was in love with ...me of all things.”
A hollow laugh escapes him, and self deprecation rooted itself like an old and undying tree. Your heart twisted in pain; you stop yourself before you cross a boundary with this man. He is royalty, and you are only a knight. You can devote yourself as a knight to him, but to devote your heart too? That was an unspeakable and selfish secret you must keep to yourself. Before you can undo it however, you place your hand over his as a sign of trust, encouraging him to keep going.
“I didn’t love her like that, but what he did was wrong. After they banned him from becoming King, he became hellbent to destroy my future as the new heir.”
“We will find a way to make things right.” You looked at him with your sincerest heart, hoping he would notice it.
“Taehyung wanted to be a wizard when he met a traveling sorcerer as a child. My parents disapproved, so he ran away and chased after his idol. Since he was still young, Seokjin tricked him into letting him into their library, which held the spell book that cursed me into who I am today.”
“But what about now? He must be a powerful wizard after all this time, right?” You asked Namjoon. Surely, this Taehyung guy could help him.
“Yeah, but I don’t want them to think I’m only using Taehyung to get back at Seokjin. I actually liked all of my brothers, but Seokjin created distrust between us.”
“But you were cursed!! It won’t hurt to pay a visit, Namjoon. Let’s see how your brother is doing after all these years.” You smiled at him as he nodded.
-----
You knock on the door covered in overgrown vines, which you can only hope was for protection and wasn’t just glowing for no reason.
The door swings open in a hurry and a cheery smile greets you. “Hello! You must be y/n; a pleasure to make your acquaintance Miss.” His voice is deep, but his friendly nature immediately overrides him from being any threat. But, how did he know your name? He’s wearing a deep wine colored cloak with gold embellishments lining the delicate fabric. The knowing glint in his eyes gleamed in the sunshine. “I’m Taehyung, an apprentice of The Great Sorcerer.”
“But how did you--”
“Come inside, my honored guests.” He beamed,” He is going to love you guys!” He guides you and Namjoon inside.
The seemingly small door gave way to a hidden palace of sorts. Odd shaped bottles and books were lined by the thousands on shelves while messy notes lay scattered on the floor. Taehyung leads the way into another room; it’s smaller than the previous but more cluttered and worn with years of use. A man wearing a thick black cloak with pockets and buckles stood before a table. The table’s surface is glowing as he works through a spell. Suddenly, he stops and turns to face you.
“Taehyung,” he uttered in a disappointing tone,” How many times do I have to tell you? You know I hate people; once you let them in they keep coming back like a... like a weird rash.” The sorcerer is exasperated beyond all belief. He sighs,”At the very least, you didn’t tell them that I was like some omniscient sorcerer god again, right?”
Taehyung chuckles,”uh oh.” He rushes over to the sorcerer with a smile plastered on his face. “It’s okay though, they’re harmless. At least, I think so.”
With a roll of his eyes, the so-called ‘Great Sorcerer’ gently moved Taehyung aside as he walks up to you and Namjoon. “Just call me Yoongi; it’s my name.”
“Oh, okay. Yoongi we--” Namjoon starts to speak.
Before you can explain yourselves, Yoongi is ushering you two out the door. “Yeah sorry but, we aren’t accepting any requests right now. I can assure you,” He says with utmost confidence,” I bet you can solve your chick flick dramas on your own.”
Before Namjoon can respond, the door is shut in front of your faces. You are met with silence as you try to register what just happened. “....What’s a chick flick drama?” You ask.
Namjoon is just as confused as you are. You sigh in defeat,”....maybe it was best that we leave?”
You turn your heel and start down the path again when a loud crash resounds from inside. As you two stare dumbly at the door, loud crashes and bangs continue to come from the home. There’s inaudible yelling and what seems to be flashes of light coming from the crack below the door. It’s very apparent an argument is taking place, but you guess it’s natural for magic to come in to play at a place like this.
The door flings open, and Taehyung’s cheery smiled blinded you once more. “We would be more than happy to help you guys, isn’t that right Yoongi?”
Yoongi makes his way to the door looking like he just came back from war. Cuts and soot covered his face, and he’s panting like he ran from one village to the next. “...Damn......you....” He speaks between gasps for air. He’s glaring at Taehyung, and shakes his head in disappointment and defeat.
 The apprentice’s smile didn’t waver as he ushered the two of you back inside. He huffs excitedly,” So how are you, Brother?”

Jason and Michael (separately) with s/o who get's really turned on at how strong they are?
Here’s your beefy boys anon! Michael’s was giving me trouble so it’s not as long or as good as Jason’s :/
Michael
“Michael!”
You can’t help the shrillness of your scream, the jolt of fear in your stomach making you panic. You aren’t sure if he’s even home, he comes and goes as he pleases even during the day, so there was the terrifying chance that you were calling out to no one. When you hear a door slam open from somewhere upstairs, you feel almost weak with relief. Thudding footsteps echo through the normally silent house and Michael is in the doorway only seconds later, half dressed and hair ruffled. You don’t have time to feel bad about possibly having woken him, running over to put him in between you and the thing you’re so afraid of.
“Oh, thank god you’re home!” You slide behind him, holding onto his back for support. “You’ve got to get it out of here!”
Michael lets you hide behind him, holding an arm out to keep you tucked away, and looks around for the threat. He doesn’t have a knife, but he doesn’t need a weapon to get rid of an intruder. Looking around, though, he sees nothing out of place, and certainly no one else in the house.
“The cabinet,” you say, pointing a shaky hand at the large piece of furniture sitting in the hall, “Under there!”
You feel him tense under your hands, and you wait for a moment, expecting him to go towards it. Instead, his arm falls to his side, body slouching a little into a tired posture, and he turns to glare at you.
“I’m not kidding,” you hiss, seeing the look he’s giving you. “There’s a rat under there and it’s fucking huge!”
You’re nearly sure he’s going to leave you, stomp back upstairs and let you deal with the creature yourself, and you grip him tighter. Pressing your forehead against his side, you let out a whine, circling your arms around him.
“Please, Michael, it’s so gross and huge and I don’t want it’s weird, little feet to touch me.”
He seems unmoved by your plea, standing still in your arms with no sign of rescuing you from the rodent. You don’t even know how you would manage to get the thing out from under the cabinet, let alone the house, so you need him to help.
“Please, please, please, I promise I’ll owe you real big. Whatever you want, just get it out.”
Michael sighs, and you know you’ve won him over when you feel him press a hand to the back of your head, pulling you in closer. You whisper a few quick thank you’s before stepping away, shuffling nervously in anticipation. The look he gives you is stern, a slight frown on his face, and you know your promise of ‘whatever you want’ is going to be taken seriously after dragging him out of bed for this.
You’re not sure how you expect him to deal with the problem, exactly, since it’s hidden under such a big and heavy piece of furniture. Watching with wide eyes, you see him slip one hand under the edge of the cabinet, the other held ready to strike.
“Oh, you can’t -“
The cabinet tilts to the side, wood groaning from the sudden change in direction, and you stop mid sentence. It’s only a few inches, just enough for him to reach in and pull out a squirming rodent, but you know how heavy that thing is and there’s no way someone should be able to move it like that, let alone with one hand. It drops back in place with a slam, contents rattling, but you don’t scold him for being so rough with your things. He stands back up and you can’t help the red tint to your face, scrambling to pull yourself together before he notices how distracted you are. The sight of the rat, just as large as you had claimed and held tightly in his fist, pulls you out of it.
“Bleh, that’s so gross,” you shudder, making a face, and take a few steps back. “Get it out.”
He holds it out in your direction and you shriek, flailing your arms in front of you. The rat squeals back, tail and legs kicking furiously in Michael’s grip.
“No! Put it outside or something! Just get rid of it.”
Michael stares at you for a moment, and you tense up, not sure what that look is supposed to mean. He looks down at the creature in his hand, watching it wiggle, and you suddenly know what’s about to happen, but the thought doesn’t come to you quick enough to stop him.
“Michael!” You gasp, hands covering your mouth. “What the fuck, you weren’t supposed to kill it!”
He gives you an irritated look, holding the now limp animal in a loose grip. It was a dirty, gross little thing that you didn’t want in your house, but you hadn’t meant for it to die. You had expected him to throw it outside or something, maybe stick a towel under the back door to keep it from getting back in.
“Okay, just get it out,” you huff, knowing he’s not going to understand the concept of catch and release. “And next time don’t hurt the poor things.”
Jason
The ground was muddy and wet, your feet slipping over slick grass as you jogged down the trail. It was midday, but the sun was hidden and the slow trickle of rain that had started as last night’s storm still fell from the sky. You had a coat, at least, and your hands were tucked into its pockets to escape the chill, but you shouldn’t have had to face the weather anyways.
You had driven down one of the overgrown trails that led further away from the campgrounds, a path you had taken many times, to go check on some of the traps you had set. Eating the wildlife wasn’t your first choice, but you had a limited amount of money and fuel was more important, so long as you had other alternatives for food. The little cabin ran off an old generator, and with the weather turning cold you couldn’t afford to run out of gas.
The traps were empty, which partly annoyed you because it meant no meat, but you also weren’t looking forward to actually eating it anyways. Jason took care of the preparation, which you were grateful for, but that didn’t make it taste any better. You had been on your way back home when the car had gotten stuck in a dense mat of brush and mud, one wheel sinking a good few inches into the wet ground. It wasn’t too far from home, but the combination of empty traps and a walk in the rain wasn’t doing anything good for your mood.
“I’m home!” You call, stomping up the steps and throwing open the door. You’re not sure if Jason will be there or not, but you’re pleasantly surprised to see him waiting for you in the little sitting room, a fire started and blankets on the couch.
“Oh,” you say, looking at the little nest he had set up. “You’re perfect, you know.”
He shuffles towards you, a pleased look on his maskless face, and leans down to put his arms around you in a hug. He huffs out happy noises into your hair, squeezing you closer. You’re very tempted to stay here, curl up in front of the fire and cuddle for the rest of the night, but you can’t leave the car out there. With your luck, the ground will freeze overnight and you’ll have to dig it out.
“We got a problem though,” you explain, voice muffled into his chest. “Car got stuck outside, I can’t get it out.”
A little sound of concern leaves him, rearing back from your embrace to look you over, worried hands grabbing at your face. He tugs at your coat, trying to look for any signs of injury.
“No, I’m fine, it’s just stuck,” you explain, gently catching his hands and pulling them away. “There wasn’t an accident, it just stopped moving. Can you help get it out?”
Jason tilts his head, eyes still darting over you in search of anything wrong, but he finally nods his head once he’s satisfied that there’s nothing amiss.
You take the opportunity to warm yourself quickly at the fire while he grabs what he needs, not looking forward to going back out into the wet, chilly woods. You hear scraping and rustling as he goes around the house, gathering his mask and jacket, with more than a few weapons hidden in the pockets. You’re pretty sure it’s overkill to leave the house with a machete, axe and various small knives for what should be a twenty minute trip at most, but you know there’s no use arguing with him, since he’s not going to leave otherwise.
“You ready?”
Jason gives you a nod, waiting by the door for you to lead the way out of the house. You don’t bother locking the door, no one ever makes it this deep into the woods, but you slow your walk as Jason goes to glance over the scattered traps at the tree line. They’ve only ever caught stray animals before, but they’re big enough to catch the leg or foot of a person, situated at the base of trees and behind fallen trunks. You have a hard time spotting them, well hidden in the undergrowth, so you stick to the trails and rutted roads where it’s safe.
The mud slows you down, and the cold is unpleasant, but it isn’t long before your car is coming into view, front end noticeably lower where the wheel had sunk. The old trails aren’t quite wide enough to accommodate a car, so the sides of the vehicle are scratched and dented from various encounters with tree limbs, and a big wad of vines and roots are tangled around the sunken wheel.
“It’s pretty stuck,” you start, hearing heavy footfalls approaching from behind. “So maybe we could use a branch or something to wedge it out? I dunno, I’d hate to have to call a tow truck out here, that would be pricey.”
You wander back and forth in front of the car, looking it over with a worried eye. Jason was big, but this was a car. Maybe you could manage it between the two of you? Jason wastes no time, stepping up to the car and leaning down to hook his fingers under the frame.
“Be careful!”
You swear you can see him roll his eyes, and you’re about to scold him for it - there’s plenty of reason to be concerned, you’re not being silly - but when he stands back up, the front end of the car comes with him. You watch with wide eyes as he takes a few steps forward, pushing the car to the side and carefully setting it back down a good foot away from the divot the wheel had dug into the mud.
“Oh,” you say quietly, feeling your face heat up. “Well… thanks.”
You supposed you shouldn’t be that surprised, considering the things you’ve seen him do that clearly showed off how much stronger he is. Nothing quite close to effortlessly lifting half a vehicle off the ground, but still. Jason turns to you, hands on his hips and chest puffed out proudly, waiting for praise.
“Wow, good job,” you say, the flustered tremble in your voice hopefully not as noticeable as it sounds. “Didn’t know you were so strong!”
He seems very pleased by your compliments, leaning down to nuzzle the nose of the mask against the top of your head, both hands on your shoulders to steady you. You tilt your head up to face him, pecking the chin of the mask quickly.
“Let’s get home quick,” you whisper up to him. “I can’t wait to get in front of that fire.”

Nachtkrapp!Schneeplestein x Dryad!Reader
A while back Cat Anon had a request for the birb boi and a Dryad ^^
Hope you enjoy this story~!
You smiled gently as you touched the bark of your sacred tree. The birds that have made their home in it, the babies chirping away happily as their mother fed them tiny worms.
Even though you couldn’t exactly hold a conversation with them, you were happy to be in their presence anyway.
Off in the distance, you could hear the faint sounds of male voices talking to one another.
Yes, you were aware that you were not alone in this forest. There were other creatures who seemed to live together in some giant cavern. Although the problem was that you were too shy to actually talk to them.
They seemed like a nice bunch, but another issue was that most of the time you preferred to stay bound to your tree. The lower half of your body was melded into it, thus being entirely made from the same bark. You couldn’t travel too far from it or else you’d grow weak.
With that in mind you worried that one of those guys will try to take you to the cave, too far from your sanctuary, so you stayed hidden the best you could.
Suddenly, you heard a rumble of thunder and looked to see dark storm clouds swiftly approaching, gradually engulfing the forest in darkness.
How long were you daydreaming for...?
Either way, you disappeared back inside the safety of your tree. You decided to snack on some fruits and edible flowers you’ve gathered and wait until the storm passed.
From within your tree, you were capable of viewing the outside world whenever you wanted to, just to ensure that there were no dangers.
However, the storm came quicker than you expected, as rain began pouring down at a rapid rate and the clouds lit up with lightning. Thankfully, though, exterior of your tree muffled the sound of loud thunder.
As you were about to stop looking outside, your eyes widened in horror as a bolt of lightning struck down on a tree near yours. It immediately flared up, spreading to the branches, down the trunk, and to the grass.
At that point the rain was slowing down, doing little to extinguish the growing fire as it neared your tree.
In panic, you emerged from your home, shrieking a bit as you realized how close the threat was to your precious home.
But before you could figure out what to do, you saw some black bird-like creature swoop down.
It flapped its wings, which seemed to have holes in them, oddly enough, towards the flames, directing them away from your tree. Slowly, but surely, they dispersed, the rain extinguishing the few flames that lingered.
Once the fire cleared, you looked and gasped lightly at who your savior was, watching him turn from a bird into a partial human.
~Henrik’s POV~
With a sigh, Henrik smiled as he managed to stop the fire altogether. He was surprised that his wings were capable of doing that, but he was nevertheless glad.
After turning back to his normal form, he glanced over, eyes widening as he realized there was someone bound to the giant tree he just saved.
It was a woman who appeared to be in her late 20s, with lush flowers in her [h/c] hair, leaves tied with vines around her body to cover her breasts, and flower petals and bulbs growing from her cheeks. He could also see that she had the most beautiful shade of green eyes he’s ever seen.
Seeing this, and noticing that her lower body was melded into the tree bark......he realized she was the Dryad he rarely ever saw.
“A-Ah..hello zhere..”
~Your POV~
Upon hearing the man-bird hybrid speak, you squeaked in both surprise and fear, retreating back into your tree.
“Hey..vait! I’m sorry! I...didn’t mean to frighten you, my dear.”
Upon hearing his worried tone of voice, you hesitantly reappeared, looking at him up and down. “I-It’s...okay,” you mumbled. “I....th-thank you for saving my tree.”
Henrik blinked slowly, gazing upwards. “Ah..so zhis is your home, hmm? Vell..” He looked back at you, gently smiling as he crouched down. “..you’re most velcome. I’m Nachtkrapp, although..you may call me Henrik.”
Nachtkrapp? What an interesting name that was..
“I’m..[y/n], a Dryad..i-in case you weren’t sure,” you smiled back at him nervously.
“Oh, I know,” he chuckled. “My friends over zhere..” He gestured to the cavern with his wing. “..specifically Marvin kept insisting zhat he saw a Dryad hanging around zhis very area. Vell I see zhat silly cat vas right after all.”
You blushed slightly. “You..have a cat that talks?”
“Precisely a Cait Sidhe,” Henrik told you. “Ve are actually a family of Wendigo, Selkies, Verebears, Banshees, and more. And ve all congregate at zhat cave and do vhat ve can to take care of each other and our home.”
“That sounds..nice.”
“It is indeed..so...do you vish to meet zhem?”
“O-Oh! I’d love to but...” You sighed softly, looking down and placing your hand on one of the overgrown roots at the base. “..unfortunately I can’t be too far from my tree for too long.”
“Ah..” He frowned slightly. “How unfortunate, indeed, but not to vorry!” A smile reappeared on his face. “Ve could alvays come visit you!”
You glanced back up, blinking in surprise, a slight blush dusting your cheeks. “R-Really?”
The Nachtkrapp nodded. “You seem very nice, and I’m sure zhey vill love to meet you. But since you look like zhe shy type, I’ll be sure zhey visit you one at a time until you’re comfortable enough to see all of zhem.”
After giving it some thought, you nodded in understanding, giving him an even bigger smile. “I would love that, Henrik. Thank you...thank you so much. Here.” You reached up, picking out a small bundle of berries and handing it to him. “Take this..as my gift of thanks for saving my tree and I.”
“Oh?” He quirked an eyebrow, examining the fruit as he took it from you. “Danke, [y/n].”
“Would you mind...staying a while and telling me about yourself and your friends?”
Henrik nodded in response, relaxing as he munched on the sweet, delicious berries. “I vouldn’t mind a bit..I do need to catch a break from zhem sometimes..”
You smiled gently, sighing in content.
By then the storm had completely passed, and the sun was shining down on the forest you shared with your savior.
Least to say you were forever in his debt.

BENEFITS OF TREE TRIMMING & STUMP REMOVAL
Tumblr media
Your trees are an important element of your yard and property as a whole. Few homes/businesses appear complete without a few well-placed trees, which provide shade and visual appeal to your lawn while also adding value to your residential or commercial landscape. However, simply planting a tree is insufficient. If you want your trees to thrive for years to come, you’ll need to maintain them trimmed on a regular basis. Read on to learn about the top advantages of professional tree trimming Melbourne, and remember that Purple Care is here to help you with all of your tree care requirements. Rather of harming your trees, pruning their branches on a regular basis can help them stay healthy for as long as feasible. Consider how difficult it is for exceptionally huge trees to obtain appropriate nutrients from the soil. Trimming branches may help your tree to use a lower quantity of nutrients, allowing it to stay healthy without having to work as hard. Of course, it’s always preferable to remove an infected or sick tree limb than to leave this dead appendage on the tree. Trimming your tree on a regular basis is an excellent approach to discover illnesses in your tree before they spread.
Trees, as we all know, require sunshine to grow large and powerful. This occurs as a result of the photosynthetic process. The quantity of photosynthesis that takes place in your tree is directly proportional to the amount of sunlight that reaches its leaves, as well as the number of leaves it has in the first place. As a result, if specific sections of your tree are hidden, it may be difficult for it to receive all of the sunshine it requires. Trimming unneeded branches can enable leaves that are concealed from the sun receive more sunlight, allowing your tree to reach its maximum potential and increase its photosynthetic capabilities.
When trees’ roots don’t obtain enough oxygen or water, they lose their roots. Your tree may not have the energy reserves it needs to survive if up to 40% of its root system is gone. Tree pruning can assist to alleviate this problem by ensuring that your tree has enough energy at all times. As previously said, trees that are too large/have too many branches may struggle to acquire all of the nutrients they require to be healthy. Cutting down unneeded branches, on the other hand, may help to strengthen the fruit-bearing ones, making everything on your trees taste better and be better for you. Untrimmed trees may make your property appear unkempt and neglected. A lovely, well-kept tree, on the other hand, may make your home more enticing to potential purchasers if you decide to sell. Trees with overgrown branches might pose a threat to your home, pool, garage, or other elements of your property, especially in the event of severe weather. Stump removal Melbourne is a vital part of preventing a potentially dangerous condition for your family and/or workers.

Lost| Series Pt.3 | P.P
Tumblr media
    Masterlist
AN: Third installment of the Lost series.
Requested?: No.  Word Count: 1,369 Pairing: Peter Pan / Reader
READ NOW Part 1, Part 2
Summery: (Y/N) has peculiar memories of a place she’s never been to before, nor seen. Or has she? (Y/N) must struggle to remember what happened in the beginnings of her childhood and who exactly this Peter Pan character is.
Water lapped at your feet as you slowly awoke. Your head was fuzzy and your tongue was thick in your mouth. Bright, warm sunshine blazed down on you, contrasting the drizzly cold weather of Storybrooke. Your thoughts moved sluggishly. Sand had seeped into every nook and crevice of your body and it was quite unpleasant. You sat up, propping yourself on your hands and tried to remember where you were.
    You looked around, feeling a tug of familiarity. A few yards off the beach sat a snarled tangle of greenery. Towering palm trees cast skinny shadows across the white beach while thickly trunked oaks and birches provided a cooler type of shade. Lush vegetation carpeted the jungle-type areas floor, with snakes of brambles, creepers and vibrant flowers that perfumed the air. The water was pristine, something you might find right off of a vacation advertisement. It was a cool shade of teal with foamy white waves that lapped at the shoreline.
    While the beauty was enchanting, it was also off-putting. There were no other land formations or boats in sight, save for one large masted ship so far off it was just a speck on the horizon. There was an aura to this place that gave it a feeling of awareness, watchfulness. You weren’t quite sure if you liked it or not.      “Hello?” You called out, pushing yourself to your feet.      You dusted off the bottoms of your pajama shorts, reaching one hand up to shade your eyes. There was no movement among the jungle green save for the gentle rustle of leafy trees in the breeze. You released a small sigh, treading away from the beach and towards the undergrowth.
    “Hello?” You called again, peering into the jungle.     Inside the canopy, it was far darker and you could just make out the sound of eerie birdcall. A shiver ran down your spine and you took a step back, unsure if you wanted to go in there or not. You had no shoes on your feet and there was most definitely a threat more dangerous than a simple thorn in your foot.
    However, inside there was probably food, shelter. And maybe people. You cast one remorseful look over your shoulder at the salty water that spanned for miles around you before pushing aside a low hanging branch and crossing the threshold of the jungle.
    Immediately, there was a change. The air grew colder and the father in you journeyed, the darker everything became. Twisted roots threatened to trip you, and gnarled trees hung twisted above your head, devoid of leaves. Evil looking flowers that gave off rotten smells reached out for you, and thorns seemed to move to stab you. You wished you had stayed on the beach. You grew paranoid as you walked, your feet growing sore and your head snapping to every sound that echoed throughout the forest. Had the sun set yet? The canopy of trees was too overgrown to tell.
    You walked a while longer. It was definitely becoming nightfall, as somehow it became darker in the place with no light. Sometimes you could catch glimpses of the stars between the leaves. It was impossible to navigate here without a map. Sometimes it felt like you were walking in circles. You had begun to talk to yourself, finding that it calmed your mind some.      “I should probably make a fire soon.” You sighed. “Who knows how cold it’ll get at night. Maybe someone’ll see it. And they’ll save me and take me to their little village and give me food.” You brushed your hands along the rough trunks of trees, feeling a little bit hopeless.
    All of the sudden, chattering cries erupted from behind you. Something flew by your face, then another one, then another one. You could feel the rush of wind and heard a soft thunk just to your right. A clay tipped arrow was lodged in a tree mere inches from your head, its tip salivating with inky black liquid. You whirled around to come face to face with a posse of boys. Some wore coonskins, like in some type of old movie. They all wore ragged clothes of deerskin or roughly hewn fabric, like it had been torn and resowed multiple times.
    “H-hi.” You greeted timidly, putting your hands up in a peaceful gesture. “My name’s Y/n. I’m looking for shelter. Maybe some food?”      The boys watched Y/n with wide saucer eyes, their bows still poised. Some also sported swords on their belts, others clubs. It was clear that this was not a hospitable group.      “What are your names?” Y/n asked carefully. None of them looked to be above the age of 13 and Y/n took note that there were no girls.      “Where am I?” Y/n continued to fire questions at them and quickly grew disheartened with the lack of answers.
    “Can you at least tell me who you all are?” She asked.      A boy with curly red hair and freckles lowered his boy completely. The others rustled, obviously displeased with the action.      “We’re the lost boys.” He said. “And this is Neverland.”
    Your eyebrows furrowed. What were lost boys?      “Where’s Neverland?” You asked.      The lost boys seemed confused by your question, and you tried to rephrase it for their understanding.      “You know...is it part of Hawaii? The caribbean islands? Where is it on a map?”      “What is a Hawaii?” Asked one of the boys.      This muddled you further and you shook your head, choosing to not further push the conversation.      “Never mind.” You sighed. “Who’s in charge here?”      The boys turned and conversed among themselves, some of them pointing at you. Their conversation seemed to grow fierce, crescendoing into yells, before descending once more into whispers.
    Finally, they broke apart.      “We’ll take you to Pan.” Announced the curly redhead boy. “But don’t try anything funny or we’ll have to kill you.”      You didn’t take the words seriously. Besides, there wasn’t anything to try. You just wanted to find a place to sleep and some food. So, agreeing to their terms, you followed them. You half expected to be climbing over fallen longs and over dense jungle area. But a trail you hadn’t seen cut through the shrubbery.
    You all seemed to walk forever. Finally, just over the crest of a hill, you spotted a little encampment hidden by a grove of trees. A large bonfire crackled, its flaming tongues reaching to the sky, sending sparks shooting up into the night. Tents were scattered among the trees with one large treehouse perched upon the thick branches of an oak. It looked nice.
    As all of you descended the hill, one boy with long dark hair that brushed his shoulders split from the group and ran forward on short legs to the camp.      “Pan! Pan!” He called, sending a flutter of birds from a nearby tree.      “She’s here!” The boy disappeared into the camp and you waited for someone to emerge from the camp, but no one came. You entered the canopied area and looked around. The lost boys had made themselves at home, sprawling across logs or around the fire.
    A tall boy with feathery blond hair and a furious scar across his cheek emerged from the shadows, the hood of what seemed to be a cloak made of burlap donned. He held a club in one slender hand and the other was empty. He was older than the rest, maybe fifteen. Was he Pan?     “Hello...” You greeted cautiously. “Pan? Are you the leader?”      The boys around you burst out laughing and the boy shook his head.      “Silence!” He snapped at the boys, who fell quiet. “I’m Felix. Pan’s on his way.”      Felix looked at you strangely, almost compassionately. It made you uncomfortable and you looked away, rubbing your arm.
    The boys grew loud and rowdy again, wrestling with each other and talking boisterously.  Felix continued to stare at you. You wanted to ask where this goddamn Pan was and if it was really worth all this trouble to wait for him, when the sharp crunch of footsteps echoed behind you. Turning, you met eyes with a boy about your age. His jaw unhinged at you and his eyebrows dipped.
    “Y/n?”
