Captain America: Civil War pisses me off so much. (I know i just said i love this movie and i do but man it pisses me off)
Like what do you mean you want to hand over control to the people who’s *in the words of the great Nick Fury* stupid ass decision was to NUKE NEW YORK in response to Loki’s attack

so, she’s officially entered the ironic kalluzeb shipping era. just a while ago, she was watching ep 20 with the new base and the spiders and all that jazz, and she goes “aww i can’t believe zeb is afraid of the spiders… i bet he’d be braver if sideburns was here” and now, all i can think about is kallus being the designated bug-killer in the relationship.
(additional note: sideburns is what she calls kallus, because apparently his name is “way too weird” to remember.)
#sw#rebels#i should also mention that she feels compelled to say “I DON’T SHIP THEM BUT” before every joke#and i’m like girlie that’s how it starts!!! i give it a week before it’s not ironic anymore#star wars#kalluzeb#the great rebels liveblog

No, never. Missy! I will never stand with Doctor!
#simm!master#missy#gomez!master#tenth doctor#twelfth doctor#doctor x master#doctor who#dwedit#dw#*#not even trying to consistently color this one soz ✌️#so i was thinking abt the change in simm!master's attitude from eot (“get out of the way”) to s10 (“i will never stand with the doctor”)...#and like. what if you voluntarily saved the doctor by throwing yourself back into the time war#the war that you made yourself human to escape from the first time round#dragged back to gallifrey at the mercy of the ppl who you just opposed? (the people who engineered your insanity in the first place?)#when missy asks him to go to gallifrey with her & 12 says ''you'll be clapped irons'' yeah i'm sure it was a great deal more than that#for the deserter. for the person who they cursed as a child & still failed to bring about their salvation#for the someone who tried to kill the founder of all time lord society#and then when gallifrey is saved... does the doctor (again: whose life you saved!!! when you last saw each other) come looking for you? no#you have to get yourself out. and when you find yourself trapped & the doctor finally does appear... what does he say to you?#''so they cured your little condition and kicked you out'' !!!!#like. yeah. i think simm!master is totally in the right for not listening to a single thing 12 says past that point. lmao.

I know it's Gordon Lightfoot's time right now, but I want to shine a light on another bard of the Great Lakes: Lee Murdock.
youtube
He does a fantastic version of 'Red Iron Ore' followed by a cover of 'The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald'. (Also on Spotify).

“Studies of Elizabeth Woodville […] have been hampered by the continuing fascination with her brother-in-law, Richard III. The Ricardian [and Yorkist] apologetic is now largely dependent upon the argument that the Woodville family posed such a threat to Richard of Gloucester, and the kingdom as a whole, that Gloucester had little option but to take the throne from his Woodville-dominated nephew. Although this argument has [irregularly] been contested, a reassessment of the queen's role in 1483 has not yet been attempted. Michael Bennett, in his 1987 account [...] still dismissed her as `an inveterate intriguer, capable in her vanity and fecklessness of some remarkable shifts and turns'. But more often she is scarcely mentioned in general histories of the period.”
-J.L. Laynesmith, “English Queenship 1445-1503” (thesis for the degree of DPhil in Medieval Studies, University of York, Centre for Medieval Studies, April 1999)
#Every single thing in this remains as true in 2024 as it did when she published it in 1999 btw#historicwomendaily#elizabeth woodville#wars of the roses#my post#Ironically Laynesmith herself is guilty of the same thing: her 'reassessments' of Elizabeth's role are really bad and always favor Richard#(so I don't know how she can call them 'reassessments')#also Laynesmith seems to think that the anti-Woodville argument has been 'repeatedly contested'#I would love to see those arguments because frankly from what I've seen (and I've searched A LOT) they are entirely non-existent#even historians like Rosemary Horrox who analyze Richard III critically retain a very negative and equally condemning view of the Woodville#throughout it all - so I am not sure that counts lol#That being said I'm really glad that Laynesmith pointed out how Elizabeth “is scarcely mentioned in general histories of the period”#because it's absolutely true#Like I said before - even in traditionally negative narratives there is very lacking interest in Elizabeth as a historical figure#She's only relevant for marrying Edward and Promoting Her Family and scheming against Richard#Most historians barely pay attention to her beyond that#The thing about Elizabeth is that she really has the worst of both worlds - she's vilified and diminished in equal measure#This has a lot to do with her brand of vilification; the persistent need to reaffirm Richard of Gloucester's appeal and authority;#and the very specific anomalous place she occupies in this period of time (between the three dynasties)#In the so-called 'era of queenship studies' where other controversial queens like Eleanor of Aquitaine Isabella of France and#MoA were receiving a great deal of attention and reassessments - Elizabeth remained equally vilified but was also#ultimately still dismissed as someone who 'grounded her queenship in her carnality' (with Edward IV) :/#So when recent 'revisionist' reassessments have depowered her still further...not only are they singularly unhelpful and inaccurate#they are also actively contributing to a major element of her negative historiography that has literally been present across centuries#hence why they annoy me so much#(This is also why Elizabeth is often written as a hysteric with haphazard and incoherent motivations in historical novels btw#It's a direct result of the vilification + diminishment combination that's been so persistent with her)

Teruko and Yosano should've faced off. I think Yosano should've been posed that question that Atsushi was; that reveal of the "future war" - Teruko went along with Fukuchi out of a mix of indebtedness and being at a loss for what to do. War is all she's known; of course she doesn't know. But Yosano has been to the depths of despair and come back out of it again. She might've faltered at this horrific reminder of her trauma, but when it comes down to it, she saves the lives before her. She fought for a way back to light and life. I just think there could've been a really interesting conflict there. And it would've made Teruko's role much more tragic if she wanted desperately for there to be a third option but just didn't have enough time to sit with it and process what that third option might be before Fyodor made it all go to hell.
Also a fight between them would've been interesting, because Teruko is much physically stronger than Yosano, but Yosano can heal from any physical injury inflicted. However, since we now know Teruko can alter mental age, she could inflict psychological wounds by de-aging her, which would've been a good callback to the horrors of war in her backstory, and also been a nice bit of foreshadowing for Teruko actually being a child.
Teruko eventually allowing Yosano to leave out that door after seeing her resolve would've been a deeply bittersweet and powerful moment, I think, especially in hindsight after her backstory reveal.
#look i love atsushi's response in that scene - it's a wonderful bit of character development for him to choose to walk out that door#i wrote a meta about it even#but it didn't go anywhere. and with teruko being present and having such an impact at the climax of the arc#her tragedy would've hit harder if she'd had literally any moment of relation with a member of the main cast.#also atsushi didn't even really do anything with the info. it was literally just to tell the audience that there was more to the story#his conflict really should've focused solely around sskk's previous failure and akutagawa's sacrifice#and meursault arc should not have been so prevalent. sorry.#either that or they should've kept dazai and fyodor contained and had sigma nikolai and chuuya be the main actors. but whatever#the arc should've been more focused on fukuzawa ranpo yosano fukuchi teruko and tachihara#from the start.#see i actually think the twists are fun and good but man i do wish we actually had the time to sit on them.#the emotional core is there it's just... buried under shock value plot twists. doa arc is a tragedy. let us sit with the tragedy.#fukuchi is a tragic figure by which i don't mean he makes me sad but like. a classical tragic figure. he was doomed from the moment#he went to war.#his desperation to avert another caused him to go hurtling down the path of no return. to hurt his friend ironically because he had#unshakeable faith in him#fukuzawa and fukuchi are the emotional core#the themes are war and desperation.#those only became fully evident at the very end. there was some great set up then the middle became a bit. muddled? to me?#i just think we needed to have picked a few focal characters and stuck with them. imo.#eh ignore me i'm not even really complaining i'm just thinking#bsd#storyrambles#random thoughts

Does anyone ever think about the 14 million universes in Avengers Endgame? We know in the first Dr. Strange that the Ancient one can't see past her death, so how did strange know to give thanos the time stone? Maybe he lied about seeing the universes so that Tony would feel ashamed for losing strange. He also says that he can't tell Tony what happens or it won't happen, but he tells Tony about the 14 million, so maybe he was lying, and he couldn't tell Tony because he didn't know.

I think Lance should get like the meanest, most evil Earth cat in existence (think Becky Apples from Centaurworld) and also the biggest rose tinted glasses ever because he genuinely believes that Mr Cutie Paws has never done and would never do anything wrong and i think said cat should tolerate him and ONLY him and I think the only other person making an effort to bond with said cat is Shiro who recognizes the bloodlust in its eyes but damn it! Every kitty deserves a chance!
#It is important to me that you know it is really just a normal cat from Earth who is also just very evil#Also for the record i dont think all or any cat is evil or even mean and in fact can be great companions if you know how to bond with them#I just need this particular cat to be evil for the Funnies#Lance has decided his Little Guy has never done anything wrong ever while Shiro has decided said Little Guy is a war criminal but its ok#Little Guy has permission. It can commit as many crimes as it wants. As a treat <3#Ironically the only other creatures this cat tolerates are Allura's space mice#Lance: look at the pictures of my little Baby boy! Isnt he adorable 🥰🥰#Hunk: You are laughing. Your bastard baby boy just finished terrorizing Keith and you are laughing#Meanwhile Shiro whenever the cat is airjailed for being an asshole: Free my man. As an archivist, thinking about the right to be forgotten in a specifically archival context, and the idea that not everyone wants their stories or their records to be made available to anyone/for everyone; that often, what a community judges to be the best preservation for their own histories and culture is not what is beneficial to outsiders, especially outside academics.
More specifically, thinking about this in the context of Lord of the Rings/The Hobbit/The Silmarillion/other Legendarium books as “historical” texts. Thinking about maybe the “authors” not writing everything down because they understand the power of stories and how the telling of a thing grants a certain power over it, over how it is known and spread, and positions the teller as a figure of authority over what (and who) is depicted.
We already know that Bilbo is an unreliable narrator, that he changes things and leaves things out. There were a few posts and fics years ago, when the Hobbit movies came out, about Bilbo befriending a young Estel in Rivendell and deliberately leaving that out of his stories at Gandalf/Elrond’s request. What other things might he have left out, perhaps, out of respect for his friends in the Company and their desire to keep their culture and language private and closed?
Pengolodh compiling the Annals of Beleriand from which came the greater part of The Silmarillion - but he was in Gondolin for much of the First Age, and would have had to rely on other sources to give an account of the rest of Beleriand. Who did he talk to? What might they have said and not said, and what might they have requested he include or keep out?
Anyways, the Legendarium as an archive, something actively created and shaped by the different people in and around it, who both added things and left things out unintentionally or by design or on request.
#lotr#silmarillion#ironically this would make the archivists of middle-earth more respectful and conscious of this than many irl archivists#i jest; there are many excellent archivists who are putting the time and the effort in to do the work right and to spearhead change#not that there aren't still a great many traditionally trained archivists who are being absurdly obstinate about this#but there is progress; however slow; being made in the archival field about recognizing people's rights to their own records#writing this instead of my personal archives paper asdfghjkl;#this isn't the main point of this post but i also like to headcanon post war of wrath burgeoning loremaster elrond#travelling around and meeting different communities and hearing their stories#and sometimes they ask him to share those stories with others and many other times they ask him not to spread them#he meets a kindi tribe in the east who have no desire to be involved in any of the bullshit happening over in the west#they are fine with him as a friend but explicitly ask that he not let anyone else know about their existence#he befriends dwarves living in the blue mountains who wish people to remember the glory of tumunzahar and gabilgathol#but who don't want their culture and language widely spread for outsiders to know#he reestablishes contact with the silvan elves in the greenwood who are eager to hear news of their long sundered kin#and request that he bring news of them to the survivors of ossiriand

Just finished reading the Empyrian series by Rebecca Yarros. Though incomplete (last book comes out Jan. 2025), this series has been SO GOOD so far! Highly recommend it!!!
Haven't heard of it? (What kind of rock have you been living under?!) This adult series is very popular right now for good reason. I don't normally give into the hype of popularity and usually let the book speak for itself. But, when I say this book spoke for itself. Boy, did it speak!
Synopsis of the first book:
“Fourth Wing” follows Violet Sorrengail as she is forced to attend Basgiath War College, where she undergoes intense training and relentless trials in order to become a dragon rider.
(My thoughts below. No spoilers.)
I absolutely love all of the characters in these books. Yarros does an amazing job showing that interpersonal relationships in this book are complicated and doesn't just come down to the big stuff! (Especially once you get into the marked ones.)
Dragons have always been close to my heart but this series takes that to a whole new level. The dragons are written in such a way that feels very personable while also being blatenly obvious that these are not humans. They all have their own personalities and I love getting to see that in interactions between them.

Hello....If you don't mind, can I ask, what are your top 10 (or top 7) favorite media (can be books/ manga/ anime/movies/tv series)? Why do you love them? Sorry if you've answered this question before......Thanks....
I can’t remember if I’ve done this before but it’s changed again recently. Most of these are gonna be books because I’ve had way too much time sitting around lately so I’ve had enough time to actually enjoy books without destroying my sleep schedule for it.
1. BBC Merlin is my all time favourite, I don’t feel like I need to elaborate, it’s pretty much all I post about on here.
2. Song of Achilles is still my all time favourite book and number 2 behind Merlin. I think I’m nearing 20 rereads total for it by now. It’s never boring and keeps me interested every time. Cannot recommend enough. I’d give anything to be able to read it again for the first time.
3. I’ve been reading quite a few classics recently, I had a lot of free time. I met another Greek mythology nerd so Iliad and Odyssey make my top ten again because they’ve been on my mind a lot more than I care to admit. (I know it’s technically two books but I always read them together)
4. And I finally got around to reading Iron Heart (sequel to Crier’s war) and it’s amazing. One of the best books I’ve read recently. I’m gonna leave it at that or I’ll start ranting but I can’t recommend it enough so definitely go read that if you get a chance.
5. BBC Musketeers is also really good, I started watching that recently. I’m only on episode 6 but it’s great so far. Santiago Cabrera’s hair is fucking gender. Also the show got me researching 17th century weapons and now I know a fair amount about capes so that’s fun. BBC is still shit at historical accuracy, but no surprise there.
6. The Great Gatsby because I’m that kind of nerd and I’ve been mostly rereading recently. Everyone is such an arsehole in that book but it’s so interesting to analyse and annotate. I read it in year 7 and hated it, then again in college and it wasn’t bad but 3rd times a charm I guess. I found it really interesting from an analytical perspective, but I wouldn’t read it for light reading or fun.
7. I’ve been avoiding anything new other than musketeers, just because I haven’t felt like getting to know a new set of characters and a new world. That being said, I rewatched the first season of Good Omens, Crowleys still one of my all time favourite characters and the show is great.
8. I rewatched Stars Align, always a fun one. It’s a great show and the art style is really cool.
9. Seraph of the end because I love vampire stories. The plot is really interesting, I still need to read the manga but the anime is brilliant so I want to read that soon. Also no romance (ignoring shipping) which my aroace self appreciates.
10. The Tempest because my cousin was studying it in school and asked for help so I reread it for her and got a little bit hyper-fixated for a few days, now it’s still just sort of in the back of my mind and I’m a Shakespeare nerd so might as well add it.
Thanks for the ask!
