Entry #012.3v2.(fennion).uncompressed.
--The Second Company, Part 4 of 9 5 9-- +Header Item: Pict-Capture, Sergeant Harmik Fennion, retrieved from archived sensor-capts, Avaricum Tercius, Demeter Campaign, approx. 963.M41. The Departmento Photartem formally apologises for hue losses and degradation encountered during processing.+
Continuing this entry on, and I quote "names that should be known" (??) within the Iron Fists' Second Company, we come to Harmik Fennion. Chapter readiness records, as delightfully reliable as they are, suggest that Fennion was the sergeant of the seventh squad, second company, from 932.M41 at the latest. This is according to a few cross-referenced accounts of the Emerigo campaign, in which Fennion is described as:
"a proud graduate of the Gygar Octavian School of Unsubtle Grox-Headedness" by one Ensign Ebosan, and
"...adequate..." by the aforementioned Sergeant Gygar Octavian himself.
Despite this...ringing endorsement by his peers, Fennion seems to have enjoyed a fairly successful career as far as space marine sergeants go. His squad attained consistently high kill rates, relatively few casualties, and battle commendations across Demeter, Poros and a number of other campaigns. However, a few noted statements in his log stand out as unusual, and detail explicit rejection of bionics, in apparent confliction with the chapter's general adherence to the teachings of Ferrus Manus. This appears to have even gone so far as to merit him an official warning from Company Command for "deliberately slowing tactical replenishment rates". Odd. What is also odd is that the best-quality pict-capt I could find of Fennion depicts him wielding a power sword of a pattern that is generally not seen outside the armouries of the Ordo Malleus. I;ve asked Yandin about the sword, and he has refused to comment.
+Supplementary Log, Cosrau Yandin, Captain, 7th Company Iron Fists+
"Fennion was...well, you couldn't have asked for a better sergeant, in my books. The line between mechanical obedience and radical initiative is a hard one to walk, especially as a sergeant, but he managed it, and managed it well. He never cut corners, never took shortcuts, but always managed to find little ways of improving things. For example, I remember him wrapping ammunition belts around his wrist rather than using magazines, because 'the burst rate never quire lines up right with the clip capacity.'" "By the time he took me into the seventh squad, his reputation for clean efficiency was known well outside the Second Company. It was a reputation that got him places, no doubt about that. Fennion's reputation put him alongside First Captain Aurastra, when we charged at a Shadowsword on Avaricum Tercius. Fennion's reputation also put him on the plainwards flank of Verchen's rearguard during the siege of Taralus. It put him against two score Kakophoni noise marines of the third legion. It put him in his grave, that day...."
+End log.+ +Addendum. I refuse to comment on Fennion's sword. -Y.+
Throne knows I try, Hester Vinchix Calimorre, Historiographer-Moderatus, Logos Historica Verita.

I’m kinda torn rn, might make a pole depending on how my thought process goes in a reblog.
But if any of you remember my Darksiders choose your adventure novel idea using discord as it’s format, I’m still keen on that… I really want to make a game-themed orientated experience. (I’ll elaborate further in a future post depending again on my thought process) but much like the aesthetic that the anon requested for Guide Her Way Home child!reader and if she was a playable character.
But… I’ve been doing a little thinkie think to myself and maybe actually turning the DS adventure novel idea… into a DnD type campaign?? However it’s not for certain, it’s not set in stone yet! There are many things I gotta do behind the scenes and the thought of being a DM is terrifying! But it is a thought…

From our first session of the Campaign.
As the sun beat down on Proteus and his horse, the golden fields of wheat seemed to stretch on endlessly before him. The gentle sway of the stalks and the soft rustle of leaves from the grape vines that lined the hills should have been a comforting sound, but they only added to his unease.
He urged his horse forward, his keen eyes scanning the empty fields for any sign of life. The once-thriving farmland now lay barren and deserted. Even the town greeter, who was usually the first to welcome visitors to the city, was nowhere to be seen.
Proteus frowned, his hand instinctively resting on the hilt of his sword. The people of this town were deeply religious and followed the rituals of Demeter with great reverence. But without the priest to lead them, they were lost.
As he rode towards the front gate, a single guard watched him wearily. The man's eyes darted nervously around, the tension in the air palpable.
"Where is everyone?" Proteus asked, dismounting from his horse.
The guard shook his head. "They're still in the city or at their homes on the outskirts. We haven't heard from the priest if the gods have deemed it time to harvest."
Proteus nodded gravely, understanding the gravity of the situation. To harvest without the approval of the gods could bring down curses and bad luck on the entire town. They needed to wait for the will of the gods.
But as he looked out at the empty fields, he knew that they couldn't wait forever. The crops were ripe and ready to be harvested, and the people needed the food to survive the coming winter.
Proteus took a deep breath and made a decision. He would find the priest of Demeter and bring him back to the town. They needed him to call for the harvests and ensure that the people were safe from the wrath of the gods.
With his sword at his side and his horse at his back, Proteus set out on a quest to find the missing priest. The road ahead was uncertain, but he was determined to fulfill his duty for the honor of Demeter and the safety of the people.

If the targbros and the Valsisters were in the Percy Jackson Universe who would be their godly parent?
It’s been a long time since I read Percy Jackson, so I’ll adjust the question to “who are their Greek mythological counterparts” and you can extrapolate the godly parent from there!
Aegon gets a Dionysus comparison a lot because of the wine and revelry, but I think my version has a lot of Hermes in him. Hermes’s domain involves being the protector of a lot of “regular” people, e.g. shepherds, merchants, messengers, thieves, and there are lots of stories where he’s running around in disguise. My Aegon also enjoys going undercover, and he has the most fun when he’s hanging out with smallfolk. And of all the Targkids, he’s the closest to a trickster type.
I would put down Jace as Athena. “But wait,” you might say, “Athena is a goddess of war and Jace hates war!” Warfare is only one of Athena’s many domains. We see way more stories about her as goddess of wisdom, handicraft, and protector of cities/heroes, which are much more Jace’s wheelhouse. And when though Jace is conflict-averse, she IS willing to do what’s necessary (e.g. Clement Celtigar in the Handbook, Viserys and the servants in Lavender).
Aemond has a strong sense of Ares, but my version has potential to mature into the Roman Mars equivalent. Greek Ares is all about war, valor, bloodlust, brutality. Roman Mars has war associations but is also an agricultural deity, because war and agriculture used to go hand in hand: when the military campaign season ends, the soldiers put down their swords and pick up their plows so they can return to their farms. I think one day, Aemond will be able to internalize that war is sometimes a grim necessity (not just an avenue to win glory), but peacetime and stability are vastly preferable.
Luce is like an Aphrodite who embraces her sea origins. One version has Aphrodite being born from sea foam. Luce-dite decides to keep hanging out with the Nereids in the water instead of going to Olympus. Like Poseidon, Aphrodite embodies a primordial force of nature that humanity both fears and reveres, and that’s the effect Luce has on…certain people. 👁️👄💎
(Fun fact: George O’Connor’s Olympians depicts Aphrodite with a lot of similar features to Luce.)
Daeron = Apollo. I debated switching Aegon and Daeron, because Apollo has music and sunlight which are very Aegon. But Apollo has a more prim, proper, and upright image which suits Daeron better. And as a chivalrous knight in training, music and poetry themes also apply to Daeron. But you also have Apollo’s dark side with plague etc, which likewise suits Daeron who also has a point where he’ll eventually snap.
Joff is 100% Hecate. Magic, witchcraft, crossroads, ghosts: need I say more? Hecate is the only deity listed here who isn’t an Olympian, and that seems very appropriate for Joff, who feels like she doesn’t quite fit in with “normal people.” And Hecate, like Joff, has a secret soft spot, e.g. when she helped Demeter search for Persephone (according to some versions of the myth).

Honestly it’s getting tiring seeing the sobbing chronically of the cast ; Hera , Demeter, Persephone and probably more . Like it’s giving big baby cry cry energy instead of idk something proactive. Not sure if It’s just me getting that from the latest chapters???
I have two schools of thought on this.
On the one hand, I can fully understand wanting to show the vulnerability of these characters, to not send a message that emotions are bad and that people should just "toughen up". This is trying to be a "feminist" piece of work after all, and much of feminism preaches vulnerability and empathy and allowing oneself to get back in touch with their own emotions, rather than shutting themselves away from them which is often perpetuated by the societal expectations and norms of toxic masculinity.
Persephone crying as she confronts Apollo - the man who she now understands assaulted her - is understandable and real. A reasonable reaction to an emotional situation that many people can empathize with.
Hera crying as she reveals the true extent of the damage Kronos caused her is understandable and real. He's quite literally been stalking her in the recesses of her mind and it's reaching a breaking point.
But on the other hand, there's a difference between wanting to show a character showing their emotions and then learning to overcome the challenges they've presented with - whether they do it independently or learn to trust in others to help them - thus growing in the process and coming out stronger on the other side vs. using a character purely for torture porn. As much as we preach concepts like "normalize crying" in a very simplified way for the sake of being easily understood, such simplifications often result in a lack of nuance.
An entirely other subject to use as a comparison point to explain this nuance - it's like the difference between having a character who's become so jaded and disconnected from the concept of empathy that even murder becomes just a menial task to them vs. murderhobos. Murderhobos are not interesting or complex or empathetic or relatable, they're just written (and in the case of where the term comes from - Dungeons & Dragons - played) for the sole purpose of having an edgy uncaring character who thinks they're free from consequences while they fuck up the lives of everyone around them in a completely irredeemable way (and is often protected from such consequences due to plot armor, unless it's in D&D, in which case you'll likely be politely asked to either change your character for the sake of the campaign or leave.)
There's nothing to gain or learn from murderhobos. They only exist for the satisfaction of an ego complex - "I don't care what you want or how it affects the people around me, I want to kill people without consequences because that's as creative as my imagination can get in my own personal fantasy."
There's nothing to gain or grow from anymore when we get another scene of Hera bleeding mascara as she cries over her situation with Kronos while still refusing to actually tell anyone what's going on with Kronos, despite the fact that we had an entire fucking therapy speak episode where she realized she needed help. So it feels like it's purely there just to play on the trope of "sad woman is saaaad, won't anyone help herrrr?" which is really starting to learn into learned helplessness.
This is especially apparent with Persephone, who, upon causing a massive problem for everyone, has taken it upon herself to shut herself away while her loved ones deal with the problem. If she needs the time to cry and process what's going on, that's fine. But while that's happening, we know mortals are dying and that she's turning the situation into a learned helplessness pity party of "I'm a monsterrr and no one likes meeee :((((" while having zero self-awareness that yeah, she did cause this problem, and her locking herself away in her literal mansion isn't exactly going to help the situation.
I've already used Tamberlane as an example of approaching the subject of learned helplessness and how it's fundamentally different from simply being vulnerable and having emotions, but I'm gonna share it again here because it's really relevant and Persephone needs someone to give her this same wake-up call.
Considering Demeter was the one to approach her at the end of the last episode, I'm hoping she'll be the one to broach the topic with her, but judging by how Rachel's treated it so far with every character reassuring her with empty platitudes that accomplish nothing but comforting Persephone over something she caused like "Noooo you're not a monster, you're the best queen ever and you're trying her best!!" (and the fact that Rachel has spent so much time turning Demeter into public enemy #1 that her readers still can't fucking give her any shred of empathy even after finding out she lost a child, fucking yikes) I'm not holding my breath that this week's episode is gonna actually have that same level of emotional maturity or growth. This is the second time in the entire comic we've seen Persephone suffer the consequences of her actions out of many that have been harmful, some accidental, others very intentional (which Rachel has even supported her doing in a very unironic sense, it's safe to say Rachel really truly does believe that Persephone is entitled to abuse people). And judging by how things went the first time, it's hard to have the benefit of the doubt and assume Persephone is gonna actually take accountability and learn and grow from this. She didn't the last time and her character has only devolved since.
Sure, feeling like you've fucked up to such a monumental degree that you'll never be able to show your face in public again is something that's real and relatable and worth crying over... but crying is an emotional response, not the actual solution. It is a PART of expressing and processing emotions, but ultimately those emotions are not actions, just REactions. Crying is okay, crying is a normal response to grief and sadness, but if you don't actually take steps forward and continue to wallow in the sadness, blame everyone else around you for it, and simultaneously rely on everyone else to carry the burden of your own actions for you, then that's when it exits the realm of healthy emotional processing and broaches the unhealthy realm of learned helplessness and emotional manipulation.
If anything, her entire monologue in the last FP episode was more about Rachel being upset over criticism of her comic and her self-insert that, like Persephone's deal with Erebus and the "plague" that followed, she earned over not addressing the issues in her work sooner and instead choosing to double down - both through Persephone's abusive behavior within the narrative and Rachel's passive aggressive meta-commentary on that abuse being okay because "she's earned the right to lash out".
The only people in this entire comic who have "earned the right to lash out" are the women that Rachel has villainized along the way in the pursuit of giving her self-insert everything without effort or sacrifice. And even then those people would still have to rightfully answer for their wrongs and grow from them - because there is no right to abuse, there is no right to harming others, especially not if the "others" you're harming are people who were victims in their own right that you turned into imaginary enemies so you could have someone to punch down at in the absence of a spine to stand up for yourself against the real perpetrators. And in doing so, Persephone herself has become a perpetrator, who sheds crocodile tears that no one is buying because the writing is on the fucking wall.

Okay so Percy Jackson DND campaign idea
All party members are the child of a Greek god. Their abilities are based off of their godly parent. Those who pick less powerful gods will get magic items to even the playing field. Here are some examples:
Demeter: great cook. Can make plants grow fast. Can control plants/vines. Can speak with plants. Giving Druid vibes.
Apollo: light based powers. Can cast spells with songs. Healing powers. Goes well with bard and cleric.
Poseidon: Can cause earth quakes. Water bender. Can talk with horses and water creatures. Goes well with any magic based character (wizard, warlock, sorcerer etc.)
Zeus: Lightning, wind powers, flight.
Artemis: Can track animals and people. Night vision. Knows all types of wild plants. (Technically you would be someone sponsored by Artemis not child of)
Iris: light/illusion powers
And so on.
Some magic items could be:
Hat/helm that makes wearer invisible.
Item to talk to the dead (Hades related)
A lock pick that unlocks all doors (Hermes)
An items to send messages over long distances (hermes or Iris)
Etc.
The campaign would be a quest given by the oracle (which can also be a player character or npc). The whole campaign will be based on a Greek legend (or combination of several).
For example: players have to complete the 10 labours of Hercules or travel on sea and face the same kind of monsters as Odysseus.
There are a lot of places to take this idea. Imagine a version of these tails but with a peaceful option or a modern twist. Maybe you slowly start to realize that the “hero” of the original story is actually the monster. They are the big bad that needs to be defeated at the end.
If a character dies instead of a saving throw they have to escape from the underworld. They could sneak out, ask a npc or god they have encountered to help. Or simply ask Hades to leave (he would probably let them). Bonus points if this happens so many times for a character that Hades doesn’t bat an eye at their arrival and departure.

Entry #029.3.Supplemental.Demeter
--Recovered from the Archive of Engagements aboard the Tsiolkovan-- --Official Action Report, originally created 963.M41.-- +The Demeter Campaign:
Shargen Aurastra and newly-promoted Second Captain Samas Tenebra are called upon to mop up remaining traitor presence in the Demeter sector following the War for Pandorax, encountering a Black Legion warband styling itself “The Obsidian Blade” carving out a domain for themselves in the ravaged Avaricum system, led by former Justaerin member Vayxin the Ravager. Tenebra leads a select cadre of forces to defend a critical mechanicum outpost but is forced back by a short-lived but bloody daemon incursion summoned by Dark Apostle Kabrius on the outpost’s upper levels, at the loss of most of Squad Octavian and the company’s attached librarian. The loss atop the manufactorum buys the warband time to reactivate an old Shadowsword within the manufactorum. Determined to ensure such an asset does not make it offworld, Aurastra leads a daring assault on the manufactorum to end Vayxin and his new toy. The battle is fierce, and Aurastra is almost killed when his command vehicle takes a direct hit from the Shadowsword’s main weapon. Despite the long, storied careers of both Aurastra and Vayxin, the battle is decided by youngbloods:
Neophyte Sergeant Trazis, who despite coming under heavy fire had successfully outflanked the Shadowsword, ingressing through a hull breach in the rear to plant a meltabomb on the Volcano Cannon’s primary capacitor bank.
Savant-Initiate Hastel Glademan, who provided air support from the Stormtalon Hurricane Dragon, catching Dark Apostle Kabrius in the open and flattening his position with a barrage of cyclone missiles.
Brother Cosrau Yandin, who followed Aurastra into a direct confrontation with Vayxin the Ravager. Despite losing many battle-brothers and taking a near-fatal wound from the Ravager’s chainfist, Yandin was able to slay the warlord alone, exploiting a breach in his Terminator armour using nothing but a well-placed meltagun shot and a combat knife to Vayxin’s exposed eye.
--Unofficial Interpretation Fragment #3 of 12# (Please Confirm?), derived from tactical data logs recovered from Redeemer-Pattern Land Raider Tvashtar's Fire during subsequent restoration--
"Sable Exact, this is Tvashtar. We are coming to you." Keldek Mormys clipped over the vox channel and spurred the Land Raider forwards. The turret bustle next to him rattled and shook as the tank’s machine spirit assumed direct control of the twin assault cannons. Mormys watched the weapons' target reticles track jerkily across the pict-feed wired directly into his helmet, just one of a dozen sensor inputs feeding into the cocoon-like driver's position high in the vehicle's interior. If he hadn't been controlling the tank though direct nerve impulse, he wouldn't have needed to lift a finger more than an inch off the controls before he'd be touching the glacis plate, such was the tightness of the confines of the position. All the better to allocate space to armour, armament and passengers. In truth, given the potency of the machine spirit within Tvashtar's Fire, he was barely more than a passenger himself. The tank was an old one, with a bombastic, eager character. He could feel it every time the Land Raider’s treads dug into a rise, like a mountain goat scrambling up a spoil heap. According to the stories, it was fully capable of operating fully autonomously when circumstances were particularly dire. It was only the narrow advantages of the organic mind in pattern recognition and data processing that warranted his presence at all. That and the vox link to the battleforce command network that dispersed its constant stream of data packets in clicks and growls directly into his ears. And right now the network was alive with a hashing, maddening overlap of information, The Mechanicus outpost was a slowly growing silhouette on the horizon, a squat monolith of fortified stores and workshops. The nimbus of warplight had crackled into existence around the outpost’s summit at the exact same time the aetheric interference had started filling the vox-channels, but enough of Gygar Octavian’s final broadcast had made it through the hissing static. It was that broadcast that had spurred every Iron Fists asset on the planet to converge on the outpost.
“Captain Aurastra,” Mormys called on the tank’s internal vox. “We have uplink with reconnaissance elements. Glademan and Trazis are joining formation. We shall reach engagement range in six minutes.”
“Noted, Keldek. Maintain flank speed and mark targets as they appear. Please keep the network link open while I inform our comrades.” The captain’s tone was relaxed, as was the tone of the data packets that briefly flashed through Mormys’ perception on their way from the Land Raider’s internal systems to the other vehicles in the formation. Mormys caught a brief snippet of off-network speech in that same tone beneath him in the passenger bay. A rousing speech, no doubt. That was beneficial. Tvashtar’s Fire was used to hosting terminators, not tactical marines, and the unfamiliarity of their cargo was reflected in the machine spirit’s disposition.
Mormys reached for the panel on the communication terminal, to patch into the squad-level vox net and see if First Captain Aurastra was as good as marshalling those of another company as his own. His finger was on the switch when the Land Raider’s external sensors lit up with alarms. Mormys hammered the switch into the on-position and felt the marines in the passenger bay flinch at his interruption.
“Captain, we have a massive thermal signature reading from within the outpost.”
“More information, please, Keldek.”
Mormys strained closer to the pict-screens, flicking through view options, focusing in on the bloom of heat radiating from the lower portion of the outpost. The metres-thick shell of reinforced ferrocrete yielded precious few answers, but there was a horrible sense of familiarity that was starting to creep out of the more organic parts of Mormys’ brain.
“Uncertain, captain, but the readings align with macro-grade weaponry. Will continue to observe.”
“Understood.” There was another click as the Captain plugged directly into the Land Raider’s internal systems, his next words ringing well-beyond the confines of the tank.
“All elements, this is Shargen Aurastra. We have a potential grandis-level threat spooling up in the bowels of that outpost. Make all haste and stay vigilant. If we see it before it sees us, the advantage will be ours.”
The message was met with a flurry of confirmations from the other force elements. Mormys sent his own brief confirmation and urged Tvashtar’s Fire to go faster, eyes glued to the rattling pict-screens as the tank ground through the remnants of a walled-off courtyard and summitted the lip of a crater.
“Hurricane Dragon to Niveus Exact, this is Glademan!”
The signal spiked almost painfully through Mormys’ senses, thick with static and interference as it shot into the Land Raider’s vox network. He didn’t even hear Aurastra’s response before the signal continued, and Mormys was just about to start work on a scolding reminder about vox-procedures that the pilots of the Fifth Company were in clear need of, before the rest of the signal drove a pulse of shock up his spine.
“I have my sight on the facility. The lower bay doors are open, we have super heavy armour, I repeat, super heavy armour emerging.”
The Land Raider’s momentum carried it down into the crater and up the other side, its machine spirit taking advantage of Mormys’ momentary paralysis to dig its treads in and climb. It was still moving at speed when it reached the crater lip, so it took a few moments for the tank to come to a stop. A few moments that Mormys spent staring at a gargantuan, slab-sided nightmare of riveted metal that had clawed its way from some unholy bowel of the fortified mechanicus outpost and was now rolling straight towards them. In the face of ordinance designed explicitly to fell titans, vox-procedures went out the window. Mormys’ words were heard in the ear of every Iron Fist within ten kilometers as he jammed the tank’s motors into reverse and screamed “SHADOWSWORD!”
It was too late. Keldek Mormys was imparted with the acute sensation of the Land Raider’s glacis plate, rendered red hot by a billion watts of laser energy, peeling back like the lid of a sardine can, before his world became a unitary point of infinite light and heat.

More Necromunda Campaign, more 40k Crusade
Necromunda:
The Hive has been plunged into chaos followed the Legion's kidnapping of two palanite sergeants, and the annihilation of the Spyrre Hunters, the renegades of House Delaque have regained the monetary momentum.
Crusade:
The "Nameless" coalition of the Inqisitorial Ordos continues to make strides in freeing the Demeter Pass. The Aquilus battlefleet has, in the meantime been targeting heretic leadership. Despite the efforts of major Imperial battlegroups, the chaos forces still maintain a large majority of territories within the pass.

An Incomplete Collection of Calorum Etymology Shenanigans
A Crown of Candy has a LOT of food puns, and with more presumably on the way with The Ravening War, I don’t think it’s possible to catalogue them all.
However, if we take the ones in plain English as given, (e.g. Oliver Onionpatch is an onion, Primsy Coldbottle is a bottle), that lightens the load significantly enough that a catalogue of Calorum wordplay becomes possible.
This will be a (non-comprehensive) list of characters, place names, and more that have hidden meanings or food-related etymology. If I don’t list who came up with it, it’s the GM of that campaign (Brennan for ACOC, Matt Mercer for TRW)
spoilers for ACOC and TRW, naturally.
disclaimer: I am not an expert on words, but I do know a lot of weird nerd shit, as well as a decent chunk of ancient Greek and Latin as I’m majoring in classics (the study of the ancient Mediterranean). I might not get everything right, but I’m doing my best. verify your sources, kids
I actually made a post like this before, but it was mostly place names, so I’m sorting this one into categories
Locations
A Crown of Candy
PCs
NPCs
Etc.
The Ravening War
PCs
NPCs
Etc.
LOCATIONS
Ceresia - this is the one that genuinely impresses me the most. Ceres is the Roman goddess of wheat, the harvest, and agriculture. English has her to thank for the word “cereal”. Each nation is clearly themed for a specific real-world country, with Ceresia being Italy. So, Brennan used the Roman version of the goddess (w the Greek version being Demeter). That’s dope as hell.
Calorum - you probably can associate this with the word “calorie” but it goes deeper. The word “calorie” refers to the unit of energy, and derives from the Latin calor, caloris meaning “heat” or “warmth”
-orum is the genitive plural in latin - so, calorum lit. translates to “of heat [calories]”, but you could totally translate it as an adjective meaning “made of heat [calories]”
TLDR: the name of the food land is “made of calories” in Latin, that’s AWESOME
Fructera - kind of obvious, but if you want to know the Latin, this is from fructus, fructus which can mean many things, including “produce” “crops” and “fruit”
Dulcington - dulce, dulcis is a word for sweets/a sweet drink in Latin
Sucrosi - sucrose is a main chemical compound in sugar, w the word deriving from the French word for sugar, sucre.
Glucian Road - from glucose, a simple sugar that’s in most living things statistically.
Frucian Road - from fructose, a very similar simple sugar present mostly in fruit. I think it’s kind of cool that the crossroads of the road to Fructera and the road to Candia emphasize the thing they have in common - sugar.
Pangranos - “pan” is bread in several languages, and the “gran” part likely alludes to words derived from “grain,” like “granary.”
then the -os ending recalls ancient Greek naming conventions and grammar (think “Alexandros” or “Mykonos”) many of which carried over into Roman times (though many were also changed to -us for alphabet reasons, hence why we normally see “Patroclus” “Dionysus” and “Hephaestus” instead of the more literal spellings “Patroklos” “Dionysos” and “Hephaistos” it’s a big ol fuckin controversy in ancient Greek translation)
Lacramor - here’s the thing. we all know lactose is in milk (coming from the Latin lac, lactis for milk). but lacrimal means tears, or related to tears (coming from the Latin lacrima, lacrimae for tears).
(update: I went DEEP in the paint on this one, and there’s a protein called lactoferrin that exists in all human secretions (gross) including milk, tears, and saliva. intriguing…)
(updatier update: fuck. he probably just meant amor like Spanish & Latin for “love” so the milk city is called “love of milk.”)
Carn - a more obvious one, especially if you speak Spanish or any of the other romance languages that use this word - carnis, carnis in Latin and carne in Spanish mean “meat”
Uvano - they’re. they’re grapes. and. uva is grape. both in Latin and Spanish. nice one
Comida - the Spanish word for food. it will forever irritate me that they pronounce it like it’s an English word (COM-ih-duh) not the Spanish word that it is (coh-MEE-da) but it makes sense - Brennan mentioned in a
n interview that it’s an allusion to how colonizers (specifically the English) would bastardize local place names until the original pronunciation is lost.
The Verduran Forest - straight up a location from pathfinder. also, “verdure” is an English word meaning “growing vegetation”, or the color of it, or the condition of health and liveliness it implies. comes from old French verd (green) by way of Latin viridis (green). Spanish also has a hand on this ball with verde (green).
The Sangre - Blood! sangre is blood. In Spanish. And French.
Gristlemar - “mar” is a Latin root used in a lot of things to mean the ocean (deriving from mare, maris = sea/ocean), so it’s a sea of gristle. gross! I love it!
Saprophus - likely either from “saprophyte”, something that feeds off the dead, or “saprophagus”, an adjective meaning “feeding on decaying matter”
Greek roots!
sapros- = rotten, putrid
-phyton = plant/“that which is grown”
-phagos = eat/consume
A CROWN OF CANDY
PCs
The Rocks Family - One thing that’s not Latin exactly but is really cool is that almost everyone in the Rocks family is named after an actual rock - like, a gemstone - and most of them are rock candy (or of course poprocks in Amethar’s case)
Archmage Lazuli - pretty obvious, lapis lazuli is a beautiful blue gemstone
Sister Citrina - citrine is a yellow gemstone
Princess Sapphria - sapphires are usually blue but can come in a bunch of other colors which i didn’t know! fun fact
King Jadain - jade - a lovely green gemstone
King Amethar - amethyst - p obvious, he’s purple and all (credit to Lou!)
Princess/Bastard Ruby - i don’t have to explain this one to you (credit to Siobhan!)
Princess/Bastard Jet - I was surprised to find out that Jet is actually a type of lignite - it’s like coal, but so compressed it becomes a gemstone. hence the phrase “jet-black” (credit to Emily!)
the exceptions to this are Cumulous (which like, that’s a cloud and he’s a cotton candy man, makes total sense) and General Rococoa - I can’t fault Brennan for the pun there, and technically Rococo is a style of jewelry (among other things) that can include a lot of different gemstones so there’s a loose connection there.
Queen Pamelia Rocks was Fructeran and from House Pomegrana originally so like. she gets a pass from the rock puns.
however...you ever wondered why its “Pamelia” instead of the way more common “Pamela”? they actually changed it in TRW so that “Pamela” is one of her nicknames bc straight up no one calls her Pamelia at the table.
2 thoughts, one more likely than the other
1. this is Brennan making fun of George RR Martin for minutely altering a common name to make a Fantasy Name, which he’s done before, e.g. Belizabeth, Bonathan.
2. the ancient Greek μέλι, μέλιτος (meli, melitos) and the Latin mel, mellis both mean “honey” or, when used as an adjective, “sweet”, usually translated as “honey-sweet”, famously the adjective used to describe the pomegranate seed that Hades gives Persephone. hehe pomegranate
so. th.there’s strength in sweetness amiright fellas?
update: thank you to @trans-leek-cookie for the info that "pomegranate” and “garnet” share a few root words! in fact, it’s possible that the gemstone was named because of its resemblance to the fruit!
pomegranate etymology
Latin granatus, granata, granatum = an adjective meaning “containing many seeds”, used in conjunction with pomum (fruit) to mean “pomegranate”, which later leads to:
Medieval Latin granatum, granati = pomegranate (a fruit with many seeds in it)
garnet etymology
Old French grenate, gernatte, granate = garnet/of a dark red color
which comes from the same Medieval Latin granatum used as an adjective to describe something dark red like a pomegranate seed
conclusion: you are not immune to rock puns just bc you’re a fruit
Chancellor Lapin Cadbury - bet you didn’t think this was anything, right? Lapin is the French word for rabbit. Hence, why it’s pronounced la-PAN not LAP-in. And of course Cadbury, like the chocolate brand that is primarily famous for its eggs & rabbits & easter stuff. (credit to Zac!)
Sir Theobald Gumbar - as far as I can tell, the only funny bit here is the whole gummy bear = gumbar bit. I will say that he is a knight of North Gumbia, which is likely a reference to Northumbria, a medieval Anglo-Saxon kingdom. (credit to Murph!)
update: thank you to @sanguidge for pointing out the Theo - Theodore - Teddy - teddy bear connection! to borrow Gooey’s words, Sir Theo is in fact a big soft squishy bear.
Liam Wilhemina - Wilhemina is a brand of peppermint from the Netherlands ^v^ (credit to Ally!)
Queen Saccharina Frostwhip - references the word “saccharine” meaning “overly sweet” from the Latin saccharum meaning “sugar” (credit to Emily!)
Cumulous Rocks - we mentioned it earlier, but “cumulous” refers to a kind of cloud that is very puffy and fluffy and white and looks, tbh, like white cotton candy. hell yeah. (credit to Zac!)
NPCs
Commander Constano Grissini - grissini is literally the Italian word for breadsticks (not the big soft olive garden ones, the thin crispy ones). Constano is a very ancient Roman name, which fits.
Pontifex Belizabeth Brassica - refers to the genus (Brassica oleracera) that broccoli belongs to
, and “Pontifex” is a Roman title, given to basically a high priest who is the political and religious power and representation of the gods will - they’re the ones who make sure everyone’s worshipping the right way, sort of like the pope but for ancient Rome.
Basha Myaso - myaso is Russian for meat, though the Meatlands are supposedly based off of ancient Celts. Much like with Belizabeth & Bonathan, Brennan likes to change one letter of a common name to make fun of George RR Martin. This could easily be him changing “Sasha” to “Basha”
Sir Keradin Deeproot- that fuckin carrot. so you’re probably thinking huh that sounds like keratin, the stuff our hair and fingernails are made out of, right? guess what. “keratin” and “carrot” share a common root word - keras, the Greek word for “horn” that’s a DEEP cut, brennan.
Dracoria Azucar (aka Cinnamon) - azúcar is Spanish for “sugar” which is cool bc Cinnamon is inspired by Mexican hot chocolate. then draco = dragon in Latin, like the constellation
Spearia Mentha - its spearmint. mentha = the genus for the mint plant.
this one’s a stretch and probably not intended but just for funsies: mentha is from the Greek μίνθα, which comes from an interesting not very well-known myth about a nymph/naiad named Minthe.
nymphs and naiads are representations of nature, naiads being spirits of water and other nymphs represent trees, plants, and other organisms in nature, which to me really evokes Spearia’s whole vibe. there’s other stuff with Minthe and non-monogamy but not in a particularly positive way :/
ETC.
“Senator” and “Imperator” being used for Ceresia parallel the Roman system of government - as does the country swinging b/w ineffective democracy and destructive imperatorship lol.
Plus Senator Ciabatta being a war hero turned senator who then got popular enough to make himself emperor/tyrant/imperator is extremely Roman - that shit happens ALL THE TIME in ancient Roman history.
This might be nothing, but I think it’s funny that the Concord was founded by a grape. You know, like Concord grapes?
update: like a year after posting this I finally figured out what the Ramsian Doctrine and the Prophidian Heresy are from.
“Ramsian” is a reference to Gordon Ramsey, a popular TV chef who famously promotes the use of fresh, farm-to-table ingredients.
“Prophidian” is a shortening of “pro-ophidian”, with “ophidian” meaning “snake-like” or “relating to snakes”. The Christian devil is often represented as a snake, due to the myth of the Garden of Eden, and the Hungry One is Calorum’s version of the devil, so it’s basically “pro-Hungry One” because the Prophidian Heresy states that the Hungry One is as powerful as the bulb.
(personally I’ve always thought snakes got the short end of the stick here, they’re very chill and interesting creatures and the whole devil iconography thing kind of ruined their reputation. I am personally Prophidian in that I am pro-snakes. snake rights!)
update: forgot about the unused backup PCs lol
Sir Amanda Maillard - the Maillard reaction is the name for the reaction food does when in contact with heat where it gets crispy and good - like smores, like she is. 10/10 (credit to Ally!)
Bitternight Darknibs - since her thing is she sold her sugar for power and is thus unsweetened cacao, the “darkness” theming alludes to how we rate chocolate according to how “dark” it is based on how much sugar and milk is added.
chocolate with 0 sugar (aka baking chocolate) is “100% dark” and is not good to eat with your mouth, being very bitter. hence, “bitter” “night” and “dark”
“nibs” alludes to chocolate in an less processed form - cocoa beans get roasted and cracked open to create “nibs”, which get ground up and melted and separated and recombined and things are added to make chocolate (this is where it makes a difference how much sugar you add). (credit to Siobhan!)
Murdo Brer - our molasses necromancer has “Brer” most likely as a reference to the brand Brer Rabbit Molasses. the fact that he’s a necromancer who lives in a swamp is also interesting to me. (credit to Lou!)
cw: discussion of dead bodies, enbalming, & mummies in the links
swamps are extremely good at preserving dead things, which is a little like necromancy, which I think is cool.
for some reason I had it in my head that putting a dead body in molasses preserves it really well, but when I went to get sources I couldn’t find shit. maybe I was conflating the great molasses flood with how honey has historically been used in enbalming? lmk if you know what I’m thinking of, I was like fully convinced of this fact until I went to find info on it.
murph’s bubblegum monster wasn’t named sadly :/
THE RAVENING WAR
PCs (I went through some of this in another post but that was in reaction to the trailer before episodes started actually coming out lol)
Colin Provolone - Provolone is a kind of cheese. Colin is a name of Irish/Scottish origin. It’s nice to have one simple one. I will say I’ve seen several people point out that provolone goes really well on a pastrami rueben (which our boy below is!) so that’s fun! (credit to Zac!)
Thane Delissandro Katzon - Thank you @blueaerin (among many others) for your post about how this is most likely a reference to Katz’s Delicatessan, a famous deli in NYC! I never would’ve know that. I’m also told they specialize in pastrami rueben on rye, which we now know is what Deli is, since Lou’s description in the first episode! Then we have “thane”, which in Anglo-Saxon culture, is a title of a landowner, specifically someone who was gifted land by a king. y’all who read Macbeth know this one! (credit to Lou!)
Bishop Raphaniel Charlock - the scientific name for wild radish is Raphanus raphanistrum, so that’s probably where Raphaniel came from. wild radish has two other names - “jointed charlock” and “white charlock”. So there we go. Your typical red radish (as Brennan described his character to look like) is a subspecies of Raphanus raphanistrum called sativus. but! even MORE interesting! you know what order and family radishes are in? the order Brassicales in the family Brassicaceae! This could be 100% unintentional, there’s a LOT of vegetables in the family Brassicaceae, but I remain optimistic. also thanks to @tenoroutoften for the info that Raphael Warnock is a senator & religious leader in Georgia rn! (credit to Brennan!)
Lady Amangeaux Epiceé du Peche - She is a mango! French for mango = la mangue. Amangeaux = sounds like “a mango”, and does contain the French word for “I eat” (mange). Epiceé = spicy (can be used as slang for y’know. spICY) and du Peche = of peach (her house prior to marrying King Cardoon) (credit to Anjali!)
Karna Solara - we know now (thanks @quiddie!) that “Karna” refers to her being a Carolina Reaper pepper! For her last name, chili peppers do come from the order Solanales in the family Solanaceae. there’s also solar -> sun, which makes for some interesting implications, given that generally The Bulb = the sun and her power is extremely not Bulbian. lots of fun sun imagery this campaign! (credit to Aabria!)
NPCs
King Arthur Cardoon - Cynara cardunculus, also known as the artichoke thistle or the cardoon, is a flowering plant from which the artichoke is cultivated. people eat cardoons too though.
also, his name being Arthur could be an allusion to his wife being unfaithful (see: the whole Arthur/Guinevere/Lancelot love triangle of Arthurian legend), as well as being alliterative with the word “artichoke” itself.
Ja’Crudite/Jacques Crudites - it’s spelled both ways in the subtitles in different episodes. Crudités = French appetizers that are mostly raw vegetables, sometimes sliced or cut, usually with dip. Carrots feature prominently, but usually as carrot sticks, not the whole carrot, in an interesting departure from other carrot-based characters in Calorum. Also interesting since carrots are traditionally Vegetanian and his French name implies that he’s Fructeran.
if it is “Ja’Crudite”, it’s probably a pun off of the phrase “J’accuse!” which is French for “I accuse!”
Dammit, now I’m curious - does Ja’Crudite have “hair” (leaves) like Keradin and the infamous zealot from TRW e5, if he’s a carrot stick rather than a full carrot?
Senator Enzo Carbano, Tribune of the Fusilli
Enzo - Italian name
at first I was like ‘wait is that a pasta?’ nope I was thinking of orzo
Carbano - likely derived from pasta carbonara, or from “carbohydrates” in general.
Fusili - a twisty noodle. Not famous for carbonara but you can very much use it that way
Tribune - another ancient Roman government title. typically, a tribune is a representative of the plebeians, sometimes from a specific area. It’s usually a way lower ranking role than senator, mostly bc it was one of the only ways a plebeian could get into goverment. seems like they combined it so each senator gets a little area to rule over represent - v cool!
Senator Ariana Gemelli, Tribune of Triscutia
Ariana - Greco-Roman name
Gemelli - another fun twisty pasta
Triscutia - could be referring to Triscuits. if you’re wondering about the Latin, a scutum is a kind of shield, so with the tri- bit, maybe thrice-shielded? I think it’s the Triscuits.
Sir Allium Goldring, Knight of the Burning Basket - I included the burning basket bit bc it implies an order of deep-fried veggie knights, which is hilarious. “Allium” is the name for a genus of plants including onions, garlic, shallots, leeks, chives, etc.
If you’re thinking “but wait, isn’t that a flower?” you are correct, another name for the allium flower is “ornamental onion”. it’s one of those classifications that applies to a bajillion things, like Brassica.
ETC.
they don’t mention “Pontifex” as a religious title in the ravening war.
The highest ranking Bulbian church official we run into is the Archbishop Camille Colliflour. Which is interesting, considering that we run into a whole bunch of Archbishops in ACOC (Alfredi, Onionpatch, Radicca Rutabaga who you probably forgot about), all of who seem to be high-ranking but nowhere near the level of the Pontifex
But what’s interesting about that, is. “Pontifex” is a very Roman title. and the church doesn’t start using until a. they grow more powerful and b. Vegetania allies with Ceresia under Imperator Focaccia during the war. So it’s a Roman loan-word bc Ceresia = Rome = Empire. fuck dude.
update: thank you to @trans-leek-cookie for pointing out a brief mention of the Pontifex in ep 1!
Colliflour mentions consulting the Pontifex about Tomaté’s claim to the throne, and Tomaté himself mentions the “plight of the Pontifex and his followers” earlier on in the episode while talking to Raphaniel.
so there is a Pontifex, but we know extremely little about him, except that he is a him, and doesn’t seem to be very involved in the goings-on of the Ravening War. it probably became a more important position post-war as the Bulbian church rose to power.
update: forgot about backup PCs lol
Lady Melys of House Manuka - like I said before, the ancient Greek μέλι, μέλιτος (meli, melitos) and the Latin mel, mellis both mean “honey”, and manuka honey is a special type of honey from the manuka (or mānuka) tree in New Zealand. mānuka is a Māori word, hell yeah, break the chokehold that romance languages have on food puns! (credit to Aabria!)
Zhyr Kaban - another rebel against romance languages, in the BTS Brennan mentions that this means ‘boar fat’ in Ukrainian (жир кабан), and as far as I can tell, he’s right! dope. Also more evidence for the Meatlands being based in Eastern European & Russian culture as well as the ancient Celtic and Anglo-Saxon tribes Brennan ususally lists as inspiration - an interesting combo. (credit to Brennan!)
Kahfeer Activian Balfour - “kefir” is a kind of probiotic yogurt drink (though pronounced like keh-FEER), and he a yogurt man. in the BTS Lou mentions they weren’t sure if he could be named Activia like the yogurt brand, so they had a backup last name “Balfour”, which may allude to Balfour farm dairy in Maine, which sells yogurt and cheeses (though not kefir). (credit to Lou!)
Granny Pom and Flaky Smuthers are pretty straightforward etymologically speaking, though excellent names in their own right of course. (credit to Anjali and Zac!)
hmu if you can think of any other fun ones or if i fucked up anything or if any of the links are busted on this monster of a post lol

𝐙𝐀𝐑𝐀 𝐃𝐄𝐌𝐈𝐑𝐂𝐈 : 𝐀 𝐁𝐑𝐈𝐄𝐅 𝐇𝐈𝐒𝐓𝐎𝐑𝐘;
❝ ... Baby I am the Iliad, of course you couldn't read me ... ❞
zara demirci (cisfemale, she/her) is thirty-three, has been in blue harbor for approximately five years (since return) and currently resides in deer park. She works as a freelance publicist and kind of looks a lot like demet ozdemir. People around town would describe her to be +ambitious and +passionate, but also -insecure and -neurotic.
𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐁𝐀𝐒𝐈𝐂𝐒;
Full Name: Zara Aysel Demirci
Age: 33
Date Of Birth: 9th Febraury 1991
Zodiac: Capricorn
Parents: Adem & Emine Demirci
Siblings: A younger brother and sister
Orientation: Heterosexual
Occupation: Publicist
Languages: English, some Turkish
Positive: Ambitious, passionate, bold, determined
Negative: Defensive, neurotic, insecure, assertive, workaholic

𝐁𝐀𝐂𝐊𝐒𝐓𝐎𝐑𝐘;
From the time that Zara was a little girl, all she ever wanted to be was perfect, and considering the family she was born into, it wasn’t difficult to see where she had gotten the inspiration from. Adem and Emine Demirci were picture-perfect examples of the perfect parents who lived the perfect life. Meeting young (through their parents being friends and moving to America weeks apart) and marrying soon after, the couple wasted no time settling down in a cosy town in Illinois; quickly becoming neighbourhood locals. While they knew that some residents may have been standoffish and wary of a young foreign couple, Adem and Emine managed to win most of the town over with their kindness, generosity, and most of all, Adem’s charisma. Within due course, the pair became town favourites and when Zara was born, she was doted on and fussed over every minute of every day; a factor of her life that the brunette quickly became dependant on. She loved company and attention, and for a while, it came to her in abundance, until her siblings were born. Zara hadn’t known what it was like to feel alone until the Demirci family extended, and while she adored her siblings in her childhood, she couldn’t quite figure out how to adjust to this new arrangement. However, she never cried or threw fits for obvious attention, deciding instead that she would earn recognition from her parents by doing things worth praise. And so, the perfectionist was born.
As an adolescent, Zara took it upon herself to attempt as many different activities as she could; begging her parents to let her sign up for anything she could find. She was involved in everything from dance to sports and (to the dismay of her siblings) music. She had a yearning to perfect any skill that she tried, but none of it was for her. The only thought running through her head when she was studying or practicing late at night was, I hope my parents are proud when they see me. A thought that would consume her for years to come.
By the time Zara was in her teens, her parents had become American citizens and her father was heavy on the campaign trail to become a senator in Illinois. While Adem did his best to make sure their lives remained the same, Zara started to notice a change in people. Her peers began to treat her differently. Little by little, people whom she thought were friends started distancing themselves from her; making plans without her. She couldn’t understand why, and this made her frustrated; the isolation forcing the resentment she’d allowed to lie dormant in her bones to seep through her skin. She guessed that people assumed she was obnoxious and self-entitled because of her father’s new-found importance and her pre-existing obsessive work ethic. So that’s what she became. She pushed all her remaining friends away and developed a chip on her shoulder; wearing her new attitude like armour. It was futile though, as it did nothing to mend the hole that loneliness had eaten into her heart. By the time senior year rolled around, Zara looked out for no-one except herself and her family. She threw herself harder into her work, figuring that if people didn’t like her, then they would just have to respect her instead, and when she made her valedictorian speech, she felt satisfied knowing that she’d finally earned some acclaim.
Zara couldn't wait to leave her small town of Blue Harbor and applied to practically every university the presided in a different state. Her plan was to get out and study politics just like her father. Getting accepted into Harvard should have been the best day of her young life, but to her it was just another rung on the ladder to greatness, perfection.
After one year, Zara realised that not only did she not love politics, she didn't even like it. Her motivations were all wrong, and it was utterly devastating. She'd never had no purpose, no direction. For the first time, it felt like she had nothing, in a big city with no friends. She took the rest of the year off to travel, get comfortable being untethered and figure out what she really wanted. Zara came back in the next intake and decided to go into publicity. She had planned to be an advisor for her father, but he decided to retire before she graduated, leaving Zara once again lost yet completely open to possibility. Upon graduation, she accepted a job in a New York Public Relations consultancy, and fell in love with the idea of being able to advise and instruct, and solve crises when they inevitably arose.
Maturing and softening with time, Zara spent most of her twenties living the New York dream before the strangest thing happened: she was homesick. The town that she couldn't wait to see the back of suddenly called to her and she yearned to be back in it's quaint, quiet streets. She was nervous to come back, building bridges had never been a strength of hers in her personal life, and after all this time would there even be anything left to reconstruct? Another scary unknown, but one she for once, felt ready to face.
𝐇𝐄𝐀𝐃𝐂𝐀𝐍𝐎𝐍𝐒;
As bold and confident as Zara comes across sometimes, she has an incessant need to be liked, and as a result she is often cripplingly paranoid about what people think of her. She needs constant validation from people that she is valued and wanted, and if she doesn’t get that in a satisfactory way, she can become moody and upset and either withdraws inside herself, or lashes out.
Zara has previously found herself falling easily for people, however, she finds relationships incredibly difficult because she has a need to control things and doesn’t want to put herself in a situation where she knows she’ll end up controlling someone she cares about without realizing. She has also had some crash and burn experiences in the past that have made her keep potential partners at an arms length, and delves into her job to keep herself occupied instead.
Despite all of her flaws, Zara is deeply caring and will go out of her way to do anything for her friends and family.
More to come!

godsareoverrated asked radiation-nursery-rhymes:
wait is PoP an abbreviation for Parliament of Planets? I dozed through civics classes because I figured I would never be allowed to vote.
unrelated, I saw you post a lot of politics stuff. any tips on how to get informed on candidates and such quickly?
radiation-nursery-rhymes:
Yeah, PoP does stand for Parliament of Planets!
I totally understand about not paying attention in civics classes, and you're definitely not the only one in this boat.
Thankfully, University Earth America realized this and have set up a page on their website with a really good crash course for those of us of voting age: [link]. This page gives a quick rundown of all the people who are going to be running as representatives of Earth in the PoP, what they're going to be campaigning for, relevant experience, etc. They also have a pretty good bibliography, so you can fact check them in case you're worried about biases towards any particular candidates.
On a broader scope, below are some links if you want to learn more about politics in general. A lot of these are going to be from offworld sites, but since you're interested in learning about candidates quickly, I'm guessing you're already out of Next Step and have unrestricted access to the wider net.
University Asgard on the Rights and Responsibilities of Parliament of Planets Representatives: [x]
University Zeus on the history, reasoning, and importance of the Military's stance of political neutrality: [x]
A quick and dirty rundown of Joint Sector High Congress and what situations require their intervention, by University Demeter: [x]
How Hospital Earth continues to fail its wards, and who must be held accountable, a comprehensive history by University Earth Asia, written in cooperation with University Earth Africa, University Earth America, University Earth Australia, and University Earth Europe: [x]
I hope this answers all your questions! Sorry, I know I've been posting about politics a lot recently, but I didn't actually go to school for it, and a lot of my knowledge of this stuff is a result of me hyperfixating what with the upcoming elections and wanting to make sure I'm properly informed. So please take everything I say with a grain of salt and make sure to do your own research as well!
I've tried my best to be as accurate as possible but if I made any mistakes in my answer, please let me know.
