say what you want about Miller but he really wrote a multiple pages long sex scene between Diana and an older, decrepit, Clark Kent in which they fuck all around the globe while flying through air, basically making the whole of humanity watch them have sex, only for it to end with Diana saying "I'm pregnant. again." and Lex immediately joins in on the equivalent of a zoom call to say "glad you got the boy up and working again"

MY PATIENCE IS AT ITS END. THE TIME HAS COME.

Frank Miller's Batman: The Dark Knight Strikes Again is a disaster... a fascinating, batshit crazy disaster. It's really just far too ambitious for its own good. Miller's satirical commentary on the state of the media is prescient, speaking even louder today than it did in 2001. But the overall plotting is an unfocused and bloated mess, throwing characters at us non-stop, making this feel much more like a Justice League comic than a Batman one. And the artwork is all over the place, often exaggerating the features of these incredibly well-known characters, making them grotesque caricatures of what fans have known and love for years. Maybe that's the point?

The Dark Knight Strikes Again by Frank Miller

Miller's take on the DC characters aren't my ideal take, particularly not fond of his depiction of Wonder Woman, but it is a playground for Frank to get out all that is on his mind at that period in his life. You can see how 9/11 affected the latter portion of the story.

Ultimately I read The Dark Knight Strikes Again as a story of the old heroes facing up to their failures and begin again in fostering the next generation.

I read a Tumblr post about Frank Miller's recent artwork and I decided to recolor one page from "Batman: The Dark Knight Strikes Again". I have mixed feelings about the comic, but the sequence where Ray Palmer fights this eldritch abomination while trapped on a petri dish is one of my favorites.

On the left is the original artwork with colors done by Lynn Varley, the middle is my recolor and I also gave a newsprint comic aesthetic on the right one.

Even years before he wrote All-Star Batman & Robin: The Boy Wonder, Frank Miller was doing the whole “I’m the Godd*mn Batman” meme as far back as both The Dark Knight Returns & The Dark Knight Strikes Again!

The more I think about it, I think the reason Franky-Boy constantly repeated the “Godd*mn Batman” line in ASBAR was less because he was reacting negatively to the fact that it became an internet meme, and more that “godd*mn” is just Miller’s favorite word in general…

I’m honestly surprised that @atopfourthwall never mentioned these either panels in his TDKR or TDKSA reviews. Another potential future missed opportunity of AT4W maybe?
