I've been a Native Cats (Hobart, Tasmania) fan for quite some time. Their sound is truly a unique one - Julian Teakle's instruments and Chloe Escott's inimitable vocals. They were really the forerunners of a sound popularized by the more well-known acts like Dry Cleaning or Sleaford Mods. Apparently "the title of the album is drawn from the rules and principles David Thomas wrote for his band Pere Ubu."
I've also mentioned bands like The Cool Greenhouse and Woven In when discussing The Native Cats.
This is their first LP for Chapter Music (Australia). Speaking of Chapter Music, they've added a single from The Apartments on Bandcamp. You can listen below.
and there’s only one thing i like more than a stereotypically subservient female automaton and that’s a stereotypically subservient female automaton that’s unbelievably crap at it’s job, cause when you’re asked to play Girl Band (I love Girl Band), you play The Shangri-Las (I also like The Shangri-Las), and when you’re asked to play us, you call the green house suppliers (hello?) and you show a clear preference uh for the white, middle class. it’s a shame you won’t live, but then again, who does?
The Cool Greenhouse were back in town with their songs of everyday lyrics for everyday people! Nearing the end of the tour and full of cold, Tom Greenhouse soldiered through despite being criticised for his shoes by some women at the front, personally I thought they were OK.
Here's some pics and vids of new tracks from their album

Monorail Music (Glasgow, Scotland) alerted me to the 7" release by Water Machine (also based in Glasgow). Even though they had previously released a cassette on GoldMold Records (Glasgow...yet again), I somehow missed them.
Both "Water Machine Pt. II" (from the 7") and "I Quit" (from the cassette demo) start with languid synths or guitar before breaking out into great driving pop. It came as no surprise to read that they've shared the bill with bands like Holiday Ghosts, The Cool Greenhouse and The Orielles. GoldMold references both Pavement and Beat Happening.
