Smash Mouth - All Star 1999
"All Star" is a song by the American rockband Smash Mouth, released as the first single from their second studio album, Astro Lounge (1999). It was one of the last tracks to be written for Astro Lounge, after the band's record label Interscope requested more songs that could be released as singles. In writing it, guitarist Greg Camp drew musical influence from contemporary music by artists like Sugar Ray and Third Eye Blind, and sought out to create an "anthem" for outcasts. In contrast to the more ska punk style of Smash Mouth's debut album Fush Yu Mang (1997), the song features a more radio-friendly style.
It received generally positive reviews from music critics, who praised its musical progression from Fush Yu Mang as well as its catchy tone. It was nominated for the Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals at the 42nd Annual Grammy Awards. Subsequent reviews from critics have regarded "All Star" favourably, with some ranking it as one of the best songs of 1999. The song charted around the world, ranking in the top 10 of the charts in Australia, Canada, and on the US Billboard Hot 100, while topping the Billboard Adult Top 40 and Mainstream Top 40 charts.
The song's accompanying music video features characters from the 1999 superhero film Mystery Men, which itself prominently featured "All Star". The song became ubiquitous in popular culture following multiple appearances in films, most notably in DreamWorks Animation's 2001 film Shrek. It received renewed popularity in the 2010s as an internet meme and has ranked as one of the most-streamed rock songs from 2017 to 2021 in the US. In June 2019, the music video was remastered in high definition and received subtitles in commemoration of its 20th anniversary. By that point, it had received over 219 million views on Youtube. In 2020, The New York Times listed the song as #1 in their top ten climate change songs.
"All Star" received a total of 90,9% yes votes!

Star Student X Delinquent Yuri Romance Manga 'I Can't Say No to the Lonely Girl' Licensed in English
On Saturday, Kodansha USA announced at its Anime Expo 2023 panel that it has licensed Kashikaze's I Can't Say No to the Lonely Girl (Lonely Girl ni Sakaraenai) for English publication. The first volume of the school romance Yuri manga will be released in the spring of 2024.

I Can't Say No to the Lonely Girl follows Ayaka Sakurai, a star student gifted in both academics and athletics. However, she gets nervous about exams, so has to settle for a lesser high school than she intended.
When her homeroom teacher recognizes Ayaka's struggle, she offers her a recommendation letter that could get her into any school of her choice, on one condition. She has to convince the delinquent girl, Sora Honda, to come to school. Thus the goody-goody Sakurai is thrust into a web of blackmail that might just lead to romance!
I Can't Say No to the Lonely Girl was serialized in Comic Yuri Hime from 2019 until its conclusion in October 2022. Ichijinsha publishes six collected volumes of the manga in Japanese.
The manga received positive reviews from audiences and critics. Erica Friedman awarded the first Japanese volume an 8/10 score on Okazu, and the series won 12th place overall in Yuri Navi's fifth Yuri Manga Sousenkyo in 2021.
Kashikaze is a Japanese Yuri artist. She has contributed to multiple Yuri anthologies, including Canelé: Soeur, Shibuya Gyaru, and Chocolat: Shkaijin Yuri Anthology. She also released a side story doujinshi focusing on the side characters from I Can't Say No to the Lonely Girl.

Look forward to the release of the first volume of I Can't Say No to the Lonely Girl in the Spring of 2024.

WHAT GIRL GROUP THEIR S/O WOULD BE IN : idol!enha x idol! reader
𓂂 ˳ enhypen hyung line, fluff warnings: intentional lower case

lee heeseung ( 이희승 )
୨୧ 𓂂 ˳ twice, you’d be the youngest member and visual of the group and only a year older than him, the first time he met you he was in completely entranced by you and your beauty. with you being his senior it was hard to have any interactions with you since you’re 3rd generation so he took every chance he got to get closer with you when his group had the same schedules as yours. when you guys start dating he’s completely whipped for you and he loves how much you help him because of the amount of experience you have. He’s also so glad that your group doesn’t really go to award shows like that anymore because he knows that he’d get caught staring the whole time.
park jongseong ( 박종성 )
୨୧ 𓂂 ˳ aespa, you both debuted around the same time and both got best new female and male artist of the year during mama 2021, that’s actually how his relationship with you started off, you bumped into each other during backstage and you congratulated him for winning best new male artist, you both talked to each other for a while and even exchanged numbers. you guys are literally such a private couple, people would never be able to find out they you guys were dating unless you flat out said it. you both are so confused about each other’s groups lore (😭), he’s constantly asking you to explain it to him and you’re always asking him to explain it to you.
sim jaeyun ( 심재윤 )
୨୧ 𓂂 ˳ lesserafim, you guys started talking during filming game caterer, he was surprised to see how quiet you are compared to your members, you’re the complete opposite of how you are on stage, it intrigued him. when filming was finished he worked up the courage to ask for your number and was surprised when you said sure. you guy’s balance each other out so well and he loves how comfortable you are around him and would probably do anything you tell him to do, you have him wrapped around your finger but you’re too oblivious to know it.(yunjin would totally threaten him that she would kill him if he hurt you)
park sunghoon ( 박성훈 )
୨୧ 𓂂 ˳ ive, wonyong introduced him to you, with both you and him being ice skaters she thought it would be nice that you guys could bond over it together. and boy was she right, he loved how much he had in common with you, he loved how much you guys shared the same love for ice skating, he was already down bad for you. so it wasn’t a shock to any of your groups when you guys started dating. you guys were the private but not secret type couple, there was so much proof that you guys were dating but neither hybe or starship confirmed and there was always fans that found a way to debunk it. every other week something comes out about you two and it’s always the funniest thing because nothing ever gets confirmed, he likes how he can sorta be lowkey out in the open with you, (he’s been trying to convince you to go out together in the open.)

Hii! I hope you're having a nice day or night I would like to request Skz reacting to their idol!s/o performing on MAMA Awards with a very cool and dark concept with their own group, something similar to Itzy's 2021 Mama performance or (G)I-DLE's MMA 2022 performance? Ty!!!
s/o performing on MAMA with dark concept ♡
author's note. thank u for the req!! i hope u like the outcome ^^ i tried my best, i added some like,, solo stage moments??

┆彡 CHAN [ 찬 ]
so so so soooo proud
staring at you in awe all the time like,, with all due respect to your members – he’s mesmerized
not only by your beauty, duh but your outfit is something that he just can’t help but stare
he’s extremely proud because he knew how nervous you were before the performance
but oh dude when you drop a diss at mama
the kids look at him in shock but he didn’t know either
the mischievous look in your eye makes him even more mesmerized
after the performance chan mentions it, not to make people suspect anything
"the performances were really, really good. personally, i enjoyed the dark ones"
mhm we all know which specific one !!
┆彡 MINHO [ 민호 ]
minho is as anxious as you — it’s first time performing such a dark concept and you’re going to have a solo in it
he knew it since he helped you practice
hence why he’s nervous. not to get him wrong, he knows you’ll slay but it’s a hard dance break
he gets chills the second you enter the stage, a powerful walk along your members
the performance is smooth-sailing and then there’s time for your solo
and keeping it short: you destroyed the stage
minho couldn’t be more proud, especially that you were on everyone’s lips in the industry even weeks after mama
┆彡 CHANGBIN [ 창빈 ]
mf can’t sit still in one place when he knows it’s your turn perform
his members have to calm him down 😭
you wouldn’t tell him what’s the concept – only that it’s dark and cool concept
he mouths the lyrics of the song, amazed by the stage and outfits
he’s kind of disappointed when it’s over and light go out
but then boom, suddenly there’s a light shining on you and your leader
changbin frowns, not sure what’s happening – and suddenly you have a solo stage, performing a quite sexy dance to tease your next album 🫣
(the members have to tug his clothes to remind him to close his mouth)
┆彡 HYUNJIN [ 현진 ]
he’s more excited than you 😭
asks you to send pics of your outfit and makes up and everything !!
absolutely stunned once you enter the stage w your members, dark and elegant suits on
he was sure that you told him everything mhmm
but when suddenly your members run up to you and seem to rip your clothes, he lets out a loud gasp (drawing attention from the idols nearby)
and suddenly there’s a reveal of gold shimmering dress underneath, your maknae putting a crown on your head
he’s so so confused but loves it, his inner artist is buzzing with excitement how to capture that on canvas once he’s home
and he grabs onto chan with tight grip when you hint the next album name, pointing at the crown
be ready to have a lecture ehh didn’t you spoil anything!! why he didn’t know!! and how proud he is<3
┆彡 JISUNG [ 지성 ]
flustered babyyyyy >.<
he thought it’s a cute concept because your latest album was lovey-dovey
but his mouth falls agape as soon as a mysterious melody reaches his ears and two of your members come in, dressed head to toe in black elegant outfits
he noticed there’s a ?? small podium ?? but didn’t pay any attention to it once you joined your members on stage, also dressed in a mind-blowing dark dress with silver jewelry
you performed one of your popular songs and then three of your members had a cute solo stage, a dance break with a song from your newest album
but the music got cut and the light focused on you, smokey makeup and… fake blood on your face?
you jumped from the podium (like that one wony stage hehe) and your members formed a regular ending position with screens hinting that’s a beginning of new era
dude was speechless and for a moment forgot he’s an idol,, fanboying over his cool n badass gf ^^
(all the fansites thought its adorable meanwhile his member were giggling at him hehe)
┆彡 FELIX [ 필릭스 ]
woah there do you want him (and your fans) dead??
you haven’t spoiled anything to him and now he’s shocked, flustered, amused, amazed and all the other things at once ;; his brain is going 28202729 km per hour like!!
because goddamn you look so hot in such concept…!
and when you start rapping at your solo stage, throwing a snarky comment at mama there and here
felix is just blushing and giggling like a teenage girl,, but also he’s kind of feeling intimidated by your sudden powerful aura
not that he minds tho~
will fight the haters of ur performance if he sees any, literally defending you like a lioness defends her cubs (on anon accs tho lol)
┆彡 SEUNGMIN [ 승민 ]
to be honest your performance is the only reason why he’s at mama …
he knew how excited you were abt it, saying it’s gonna tease your next comeback
so naturally, he was intrigued
but he wasn’t expecting that
you literally owned the stage,, all of your members too ofc
but there was just something so fresh seeing you in a dark concept with smokey makeup,, kicking a prop chair and loosening your tie…
he was stunned!!!
and seungmin couldn’t help but feel the overflowing sense of pride that it’s his girl right here, catching everyone’s attention
( especially after you cursed in a part of a song that was supposed to be censored )
┆彡 JEONGIN [ 정인 ]
this man almost made you spoil the whole performance for him 😭😭
he’s just as excited as you are, buzzing with excitement
he was even squeezing chan’s hand once you entered the stage
everything was so enchanting – the rock version of your newest song, the mysterious background, dark and elegant outfits
when suddenly a backup dancer handed you a guitar
and you had an electric guitar solo, the accessories you had shimmering in the light
literally everyone was focused at you and your skills, jeongin staring in awe and mouth hanging open
( he just wanted to scream at the top of his lungs that “that’s my gf y’all!!” but sadly he couldn’t !!!? <\\3 )
after the solo you joined your members in finishing the choreography,,, he even missed the big spoiler for the next album that your main rapper did in the choreo
bc he was so so focused at you,, he could see how proud you were
and so was he!! expect a lot of kisses n praises after the performance!!

reading update: january 2025
I'm a bit behind on getting this posted, so I'm gonna do it quick and dirty. this is not the most elaborate reading round-up I'm ever going to do, and that's okay!!! january has gotten off to a weird, uneven start in terms of reading, and that is what it is!
The Extinction of Irena Rey (Jennifer Croft, 2024) - this book is great for anyone who likes dark academia but wants to see what those students will be like when they’re adults who have to get by outside of college. in this case, they become translators for an enigmatic woman who makes them gather in a remote Polish forest and then disappears. pure vibes all the way down; truly things just happen in this book. the gimmick of the novel itself being a work by one of the characters, told from her perspective, and then translated by another character that the narrator despises, is soooo rich and interesting, and I deeply wish it had been used much more extensively.
Darknesses (Lachelle Seville, 2022) - is this book good? I couldn’t possibly say. it was very fun to read on vacation with like 12% of my brain operating. the best way I can possible explain it is that by the time the book is over it feels like Seville is running one of those old ask blogs where artists would have their blorbos and their OCs answer questions and hang out and stuff. do you know the kind I’m talking about? it’s like that, it’s dissociative identity disorder Dracula and the descendants of the human Dracula characters and Norse mythology werewolves and a vampire bunny and a dragon and Satan who’s a teenage girl with pink hair and they’re all hanging out in New York City. don’t think too hard about it.
Become Your Own Matchmaker: 8 Easy Steps to Attracting Your Perfect Mate (Patti Stanger with Lisa Johnson Mandell, 2009) - I’m not proud of this and I can’t really justify it except that my housemates and I have gotten really into watching old episodes of Patti Stanger’s terrible TV show, Millionaire Matchmaker. the show is atrocious and so is the book but in my defense it’s extremely funny.
Queen Takes Rose (Katee Robert, 2020) - guys I can’t stand Katee Robert. I really can’t. I thought it was going to be fun but god this just sucked.
Adam & Evie's Matchmaking Tour (Nora Nguyen, 2024) - after that last one I really needed a good, normal romance novel to get me back on track, and this delivered! I don’t think it’s going to be one of my all-time faves, but the characters are lovably realistic losers and I was really rooting for them—especially Evie, who feels like a messy bitch I would love to hang out with. plus the setting, a romping tour across the sights of Vietnam, was so fun and I’m always willing to award points to a romance novel that supports telling your awful to fuck off right to hell!
Mystery Lights (Lena Valencia, 2024) - here’s the thing. every short story in this collection is a well written, coherent short story. thematically there are really clear throughlines; you’ll get a lot of mileage out of this if you like middle aged women who have complicated relationships with their daughters between the ages of 13 and 23. I really wanted to like this! and yet, I feel like this collection just isn’t going to stick with me very well. there are some cool concepts and ideas (there’s a creepy story involving a little girl who disappears into some underground caves and comes back Weird that actually spooked me pretty good) but overall I feel like it’s just not going to stick with me :/
Is Love the Answer? (Uta Isaki, 2021; trans. Sawa Matsueda Savage, 2023) - huge thanks to the person who sent me an ask to recommend this manga! it’s a very quick, sweet read about a university student coming into her aroace identity with the help of a circle of newfound friends supporting her along the way. I really liked the way it delves into the way anxiety can have you second-guessing and overthinking your sense of self even after embracing an identity. this was my Heartstopper (I say, without having ever read Heartstopper).
The Last Report on the Miracles at Little No Horse (Louise Erdrich, 2001) - I picked this up at Erdrich’s bookstore, Birchbark Books & Native Arts, last summer while I was briefly in Minneapolis, on recommendation by an employee at the store. I was initially hesitant about the novel’s focus on spirituality and religion, given that it follows a Catholic priest working on an Ojibwe reservation throughout the 20th century, but man, this was an incredible introduction to Erdrich’s work. Father Damian Modeste is an incredible character and one of my favorite depictions I’ve ever seen of a woman living long-term in disguise as a man, and how the line between those identities blurred. there’s a scene I don’t think I’ll ever forget, in which Modeste is asked, essentially, “Are you a man or a woman?” and answers firmly “I’m a priest.” and all the while, despite the fact that he’s supposed to be an agent of colonization and the destruction of indigenous culture, more than anything he is changed by the Ojibwe people he works with. it’s a surprising, elegant book, and I was shaken to find myself crying at the end.
A Magical Girl Retires (Park Seolyeon, 2022; trans. Anton Hur 2024) - this book is a short, rapid-fire read that’s a dry, funny take on the magical girl genre. our protagonist starts the book so mired in credit card debt that she’s considering jumping off a bridge when she’s summoned to be a magical girl, and things will only get weirder for her from there as Korea’s magical girl union recruits her to help them combat climate change. a fun read, easy to polish off in a single sitting at less than 200 pages.
salt slow (Julia Armfield, 2019) -now THIS was the short story collection I was waiting for! it reminded me so much of why I loved Armfield’s novel Our Wives Under the Sea. she has another new novel out this year and I’m really looking forward to reading that as well! she has an incredible way with love and melancholy.

Joker Out Masterpost for new fans
New fan of Joker Out? Say no more!
Getting to know a new artist you’ve found can be intimidating if it’s all in another language, so we’ve compiled some of our favourite interviews, articles and lore here! You’ve arrived in a wonderful fanbase, welcome from all of us here at JokerOutSubs!
If you’d just like a short overview of the band and their history, you can watch this excellent Finnish summary of them that we’ve translated (14m 53s).
youtube
But if you want to dive into the details, then check out our timeline, full of videos and articles translated by JokerOutSubs!
Timeline graphic:
Timeline in details below the cut 👇
Timeline in details:
How did the band form?
Joker Out was formed from two bands, Apokalipsa and Buržuazija.
Apokalipsa included Bojan Cvjetićanin (vocals), Martin Jurkovič (bass) and Matic Kovačič (drums)
They gained some traction with young people around Slovenia, particularly with their song 'Mogoče' ('Maybe'), which you can watch on YouTube here.
They came to the attention of Kris Guštin, who was inspired to start learning guitar! He discusses the details in this video (at 9:40).
Kris then met Jan Peteh, another student of his guitar teacher, and at their teachers advice, they formed the band Buržuazija.
Bojan attended their second ever gig in 2016, and decided these two excellent guitarists were exactly what had been missing from Apokalipsa, as he wasn’t happy with their current guitarists. He asked them to join, and they accepted
The new lineup (Bojan, Jan, Kris, Martin and Matic) decided to rename themselves Joker Out. The name means nothing, but they thought it sounded good and was the ‘least horrible’ of all the ideas they could think of.
So, in 2016, Joker Out was officially formed!
November 2016, Kot srce ki kri poganja:
Joker Out’s first music video was for their song ‘Kot srce ki kri poganja’ ('Like a heart that pumps blood'), filmed in Jan’s hometown of Vrhnika! We eventually got this song on Spotify on their 2023 album Live from Arena Stožice!
Music video: Kot srce ki kri poganja
English Interview (from 3:37 to 6:05): Joker Out discusses filming the music video
June 2017, Špil Liga:
One of the earliest performances for Joker Out was at Špil Liga, a competition for young bands in Slovenia. They won, and recorded their winning song, Omamljeno telo (intoxicated body) in November as part of the prize.
Live (33m): Joker Out at Špil liga
Interview (5m): Reflections on Špil Liga in 2023
c.2017/18, Bojan’s attempt at going solo:
The band took a hiatus c.2017/18, and Bojan considered going solo at that time, even working with a few producers. He eventually realised that he belonged with the band! Hear him tell the story:
Reel (1m 23s): A1 Vajb - Bojan’s fail
2019, A change up for the band:
The band began working with their current producer, Žare Pak, and their videographer Mark Pirc, in 2019 - both of whom have been referred to as the sixth member of the band. This led to a change in their sound and production quality, which culminated in ‘Gola’ ('Naked'), the first of their songs to be a big hit!
Music video: Gola
Zlata piščal ('Golden Flute') - Best New Artist 2019:
Joker Out won their first Zlata piščal award in 2019, for best new artist (one of many they’d go on to win!) This is a kind of Slovenian Grammy! Covid interrupted the proceedings, but you can see their interview for it here (3m 59s)-
Interview: Joker Out wins a Zlata piščal ('Golden Flute') for Best New Artist 2019
Umazane misli, and a new member:
During the Covid times, the band began recording their first studio album, 'Umazane misli' ('Dirty thoughts'), which was originally going to be released in March 2020 but was repeatedly delayed until October 2021. The first half was recorded with drummer Matic Kovačič, but the band felt they needed something extra and brought in Jure Maček to help write the arrangements. They loved him so much, he never left!
Interview (from 10:40 to 11:36): Bojan talks briefly about Jure joining the band
COVID times, and Cvetličarna:
The band had arranged to do two concerts at Cvetličarna, a very important venue in Slovenia and a big break for them. This was delayed several times due to Covid, but eventually managed to go ahead in October 2021 for the release of their first album.
Video (1m 14s): Cvetličarna promotional video
Live (1h 28m): Joker Out at Cvetličarna
Interview (34m 55s): Bojan discusses Cvetličarna, its importance, and Covid
Umazane misli album launch:
'Umazane misli' was extremely well received! The band would go on to win two more Zlata piščal awards, Newcomers of the Year in 2020 and Artist of the Year in 2021.
Interview (37m 08s): Umazane misli album presentation
An acting career for Bojan?
Around the same time as 'Umazane misli' was released, Bojan began considering an acting career. He acted in two episodes of the series ‘Gospod Professor’ and in another series, which was eventually reworked as a film called ‘Kaj pa Ester’ and released in December 2023. He decided music was his passion though, and he wanted to fully focus on that.
Interview (from 10:04 to 11:30): Bojan discusses his acting career
Interview (2m 11s): Kaj pa Ester interview
Interview (2m 30s): Kaj pa Ester premire

September 2022, Križanke:
The band got straight to work writing their second album, 'Demoni' ('Demons'), and decided to present it in September 2022 at Križanke, another hugely important venue in Slovenia. This whole concert wasn’t recorded, but we have an interesting advertisement they did for it, an interview and a clip of one song live from Križanke!

Interview (2m 16s): Joker Out with parachutes to Križanke?
Live (4m 7s): 'Novi val' ('New wave') live at Križanke

Another new member!
After Križanke at the end of 2022, Martin Jurkovič, one of the founding members of the band, made the decision to leave to focus on his studies.
Video (2m 20s): Martin's departure
Thankfully, he was replaced by the wonderful Nace Jordan, who remains the bassist in the current lineup.
Article: Nace Jordan discusses joining the band
2023, Eurovision:
Joker Out were then internally selected to go to Eurovision 2023, and began recording their Eurovision song, 'Carpe Diem', in Hamburg in December 2022. To learn more, you can watch the Carpe Diem series, a documentary series which followed their entire journey.
The first episode, recording Carpe Diem, can be found with subtitles in multiple languages by JokerOutSubs!

The band performed their song for the first time live on Misija Liverpool, a televised debut, on the 4th February 2023.

There are quite literally hundreds of interviews with Joker Out during the Eurovision era. Here's one from just before the final, that we have translated.

European tour and Sunny Side of London (22nd September)
Luckily, the best was still to come for Joker Out! The rest of 2023 was spent on an extremely successful European tour, and they also released their first English single, 'Sunny Side of London', in September.
We at JokerOutSubs were also thrilled to interview the band twice on their tour!
Original Interview (15m 25s): JokerOutSubs interview in Tampere

6th of October 2023, Stožice:
All of this, however, was building up to Stožice. This is the biggest closed venue in Slovenia and Joker Out managed to sell out their October show there - an extremely important milestone for Slovenian artists.
Interview (15m 4s): Stožice and their whirlwind post Eurovision career
Live: Full concert live-streamed part 1 and part 2
A lovely moment at Stožice was when former members Martin Jurkovič and Matic Kovačič joined the band onstage to perform 'Kot srce ki kri poganja'!
Interview (2m 4s): Martin and Matic discuss the experience
Interview (5m 9s): Joker Out post Stožice impressions

The first major solo museum presentation of fourth-generation Navajo weaver Melissa Cody (b. 1983, No Water Mesa, Arizona) spans the last decade of her practice, showcasing over 30 weavings and a major new work produced for the exhibition. Using long-established weaving techniques and incorporating new digital technologies, Cody assembles and reimagines popular patterns into sophisticated geometric overlays, incorporating atypical dyes and fibers. Her tapestries carry forward the methods of Navajo Germantown weaving, which developed out of the wool and blankets that were made in Germantown, Pennsylvania and supplied by the US government to the Navajo people during the forced expulsion from their territories in the mid-1800s. During this period, the rationed blankets were taken apart and the yarn was used to make new textiles, a practice of reclamation which became the source of the movement. While acknowledging this history and working on a traditional Navajo loom, Cody’s masterful works exercise experimental palettes and patterns that animate through reinvention, reframing traditions as cycles of evolution. Melissa Cody is a Navajo/Diné textile artist and enrolled member of the Navajo/Diné nation. Cody grew up on a Navajo Reservation in Leupp, Arizona and received a Bachelor’s degree in Studio Arts and Museum Studies from Institute of American Indian Arts, Santa Fe. Her work has been featured in The Barnes Foundation, Philadelphia (2022); Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, Bentonville, AR (2021); National Gallery of Canada, Ottawa (2019–2020); Museum of Northern Arizona, Flagstaff (2019); SITE Santa Fe (2018–19); Ingham Chapman Gallery, University of New Mexico, Albuquerque (2018); Navajo Nation Museum, Window Rock (2018); and the Museum of Contemporary Native Arts, Institute of American Indian Arts, Santa Fe (2017–18). Cody’s works are in the collections of the Stark Museum of Art, Orange, Texas; the Minneapolis Institute of Arts; and The Autry National Center, Los Angeles. In 2020, she earned the Brandford/Elliott Award for Excellence in Fiber Art.

Hiii, have you heard of The Content of our Caricature by Rebecca Wanzo? It's a book exploring how black comic artists engage with racist caricatures in comics and illustrations, and what these caricatures say about the perception of black people as citizens of the U.S. It also examines how modern representation interacts with the history of caricatures. I'm only about 20 pages in so I can't say too much about it, but I was wondering if the topic would be interesting to you.
I have heard of this book, yes! It sounded incredibly interesting, and God knows artists (and viewers, tbh) could stand to read it.
For the sake of consistency, since I'm going to share this on the @creatingblackcharacters blog, Black, please 😊 But I'd love to hear your updates and your learning journey from the book; feel free to submit them to the page! If you want to be on anon, I do anons Wednesday through Friday.

Listen, for YEARS Armys have ALWAYS found something to use as an excuse or scape-goat instead of taking the hate Jimin gets 24/7 as something SERIOUS.
2015-end of 2016: "He was asking for it 'cause he's a flirt", "He should stop getting so close to X/Y member", "Its because he cares too much about his weight", "He probably has an ED", "Its because he's so insecure", "I wish he would stop posting so much everyday so the haters would stop giving us a hard time reporting".
2017 - They blamed JIMIN with "maybe he did something wrong to piss ppl off--", "He's such a bad friend for forgetting to write his bandmate's name on a chalkboard", to justify the hate.
In 2018 - They blamed it on "Shipping wars" and their solution to the problem? "Just block & ignore them" (the blocking in question was for ANYONE who dared to defend Jimin; ANYONE with a Jimin pfp got targeted instead of the actual shippers, aka TAEKOOKERS, causing the problems).
2019 - They started blaming JIMIN again, even though JIMIN was THE ONLY MEMBER who got targeted and STALKED during their vacation (he was literally followed to EVERY country he visited with his friends, while we knew nothing about the other member's whereabouts for two and a half months).
2020-2021 - They started the "Jimin is lazy", "Jimin is useless without the group", "He's just pretending to be depressed for attention 'cause all the other members are more talented/popular--", "Its HIS fault the other members get forced to sing in high notes" (after it was known Pdogg preferred the high notes in songs because it makes them sound better and only Jimin could sing them)
Early 2022 when he released his first collab outside the group - "We're not gonna support his collab", "He should've collabed with one of the members instead", "See? Even they didn't support it.", "He ruined his only chance to debut solo--"
2022, Post-group-hiatus-announcement: "Jimin is lazy", "Jimin is jobless", "No one wants to work with him", "Jimin will never survive as a soloist, he depends too much on the group", "Its not like he cares about making music".
2023, PJMS had ENOUGH and started fighting back instead of staying quiet: "Jimin solos are to blame", "Jimin solos are the worst", "We don't take solos serious" (even though their biggest "ot7" fanbases ARE run by SOLOS & Jimin antis themselves.)
And its not just on the i-side, its also happening on the k-side as well. Ya'll saw it happen in real time last year when the big Korean Army "ot7" fanbases (like ARMY52Hertz, who we now know is run by a HYBE employee who despises Jimin) EXCLUDED Jimin from all votings so that ONLY JK got most of the awards and everytime i-fans tried to warn K-armys we were told "You know nothing about our country rules" (Translation: "Korean fans only follow ONE big "official" fanbase and do absolutely EVERYTHING they say without questioning otherwise they will be "kicked out") and only came to their senses when it was too late and the whole Kpop fandom were laughing at them.
Its a never ending cycle, I was THERE on every single era, I saw every single snicker and back-handed comment thrown at him from the very fandom that claims to "love him more than anyone". Because they ONLY pretend to love him when he's being a cheerleader to another member, or when he thanks "Armys" in general. But otherwise they wouldn't give a shit about him. Not as an individual. They only care about his validation and acknowledgement of the BRAND-name "Army".
Its why they HATE the idea of him having fans outside of the group; fans who SEE HIM as an individual and TALENTED Solo-Artist; fans willing to support and fight to defend HIM till the end. Why they need to correct and insert the other members under every single media article, youtube reaction or post praising JIMIN ONLY. Because to most brainwashed Armys the ONLY talented dancer is Jhope, the ONLY good singer is JK, the ONLY good looking member is V or Jin, the ONLY talented writers/composers are the RL. Because its what they've GASLIGHTED EACH OTHER TO BELIEVE.
To them Jimin is just "the cute, sexy member" who's also an Angel because he cares about THEIR FAVORITE MEMBER.
Its also why they are quick to attack anyone who self-proclaims to be HIS fan (Jimin stan, PJMs, Jimin solo, ect), but never want to become part of "Army". Because outsiders can easily see how fucked up the BTS fandom really IS and HAS BEEN in the past couple of years and why they've earned the name and reputation as
"The Most Toxic Fandom in Kpop".
#I said what I said#jimin deserves better#a better fandom#a better company/label#a better everything#a better life where he can do whatever the FUCK HE WANTS

♡ : ㅤ [ ... ]ㅤㅤ ✶ㅤ ㅤ ⠀VELVETINE ( 벨벳틴 ) is a fictional girl group formed and managed by Superbloom Media in May 2022. The group has would release their first extended play, ANGELISM, on October 31, 2022 and debuted with eight members: JOVIE, COELLA, AMORET, XUEYAO, MINSEUL, YULLI, ODESSA, and KIRIE. The girls were introduced to the public through the documentary series THE GIBSON GIRL PROJECT in 2021, where they originally competed to be apart of a twelve member line-up. Sonically and conceptually, Velvetine are well known for their cute concept and bubblegum pop sound, often inspired by their experiences as young girls in the 21st century. Compared to other girl groups in the idol industry, they have a primarily female fanbase that feel deeply connected to their idols because they have gone through similar experiences with love, school, and even work. Velvetine has become one of the biggest girl groups of the 4th generation and hailed as THE NATION'S PRINCESSES.
♡ : ㅤ [ ... ]ㅤㅤ ✶ㅤ ㅤ ⠀THE GIBSON GIRL PROJECT was named after Charles Dana Gibson artistic personification of the Gibson Girl—or the feminine ideal of physical attractiveness during the 20th century. They chose this name to highlight Velvetine’s future concept, which is often labeled as classic or fragile, and used it to describe the perfect trainee that would debut as a member of this group. Through the documentary series, the original thirty-trainees would be placed into THREE tiers based on their skill level and the highest ranking trainee each month would be chosen for the debut lineup. The process began with COELLA being chosen first and ended with ODESSA, though SLYVIE, JIYU, MARI, and GAEUN would rank highly compared to the members that actually debuted. On December 21, 2020, Superbloom Media would confirm that the four girls would “go their separate ways” with the company, however, many of their family members have stated that they have not seen their daughters since 2019 and MARI's family filed a missing persons report in late 2023.
♡ : ㅤ [ ... ]ㅤㅤ ✶ㅤ ㅤ ⠀Their conceptual universe is referred to by fans and adopted by Superbloom Media as BLUSH NOIR, inspired by the darker aesthetics often seen in their music videos. The idea was hinted at from the beginning of Velvetine's career with their visual aesthetic often containing touches such as lace gloves and corsets with dark accessories and makeup that make them look like "cracked porcelain dolls". Their concept is often shorted to being girls in the 21st century, but looking closer there is something happening behind the scenes considering the way the girls act. Velvetine is often described as robotic and eerie by their peers, with AMORET and YULLI being the only members known to hang out with people outside of their group. Since then, many have described VELVETINE themselves unapproachable, often seen keeping to themselves at award shows and not having any idol friends outside of each other, and have ritualistic tendencies, making them prime targets for video essays and think pieces on the idol industry.

Adele - Rolling in the Deep 2010
"Rolling in the Deep" is a song by English singer-songwriter Adele from her second studio album, 21 (2011). It is the lead single and opening track on the album. The song was composed by Paul Epworth and Adele in a single afternoon following Adele's breakup with her boyfriend. It was her reaction to, "being told that my life was going to be boring and lonely and rubbish, and that I was a weak person if I didn't stay in the relationship. I was very insulted, and wrote that as a sort of 'fuck you'."
"Rolling in the Deep" received widespread critical acclaim with praise drawn towards the song's production, its lyrics, and Adele's vocal performance. It represented a commercial breakthrough for Adele, propelling her to global superstardom. The song topped the charts in twelve countries and reached the top 10 in over twenty territories. It was Adele's first number-one song in the US, reaching the top spot on many Billboard charts, including the Billboard Hot 100 where it was number one for seven weeks. By February 2012, "Rolling in the Deep" had sold over 8.7 million copies in the US, making it the best-selling digital song by a female artist in the US, the second-best-selling digital song in the US and Adele's best-selling single outside her native country, topping her previous best-selling "Chasing Pavements". Worldwide, it was the fifth-best-selling digital single of 2011 with sales of 8.2 million copies. As of 2019, with sales of over 20.6 million copies worldwide, "Rolling in the Deep" is one of the best-selling digital singles of all time.
Its music video received a leading seven nominations at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards, including for Video of the Year, and won three other awards: Best Editing, Best Cinematography and Best Art Direction. "Rolling in the Deep" was also the Billboard Year End Hot 100 Number One Single of 2011. At the 54th Annual Grammy Awards, it won awards for Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Short Form Music Video, making it just the second song in Grammy history to win all three awards after "We Are the World" in 1986. Various critics and music publications ranked it as the best song of the year on their end-of-year lists with Rolling Stone ranking it at number 8 spot on its list of "The 100 Greatest Songs of the 21st Century". In 2021, the song was ranked at number 82 on the list of Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.
"Rolling in the Deep" received a total of 87,7% yes votes!
