Inktober Day 26 (sorta): Pact

This isn’t actually an inktober drawing, but a WIP I posted a whiiiile ago and never finished lol. I’m reposting it in lieu of an inktober doodle today, but I promise I’m cooking So Much in the background 💪💪 And it’s greyscale, so it looks like an inktober drawing right??? And I haven’t posted it here before, so it’s fiiiine 🙂‍↕️

this was my first introduction to Generator Rex, to Rex Salazar specifically. I saw it for like a few minutes when I was 8, but these scenes burned themselves into my brain, and in another 10 or so years I re-discovered the show, became obsessed, and memorized every scene from every episode (except the prank one, because that episode was a mistake). Why?

because this scene permanently impacted how I saw heroes. they aren't there to beat the bad guy. they're there to save people. and they do it not because they are forced to, or guilted into it. they do it because they want to. because they care if people get hurt, even if those people are complete strangers.

these scenes are largely responsible for my disdain for modern live-action superhero spectacles, where the heroes "save the day", but leave countless civilians dead.

it is also the reason why I have come to love shows like Justice League Unlimited:

they GET IT. they GET WHY SAVING PEOPLE IS IMPORTANT.

because at the end of the day, it's not beating up the villain of the week that is important. it's saving lives.

Inktober Day 21: Me and the Devil

I would love to clean this up someday, but I just had to get it out there. We’re ten days away from Veilgaurd, and I’ve realized that all the theories I’ve been cooking for years could get thrown out the window 😫 (they will live on in my heart but still) So, I want to get them all written out before the big day!!!

Starting off with the Architect and why the Awakening storyline is honestly my favorite of all of the DA games! Prepare yourself for some looooong ramblings lol 😅 (under the cut)

We know that the Architect is able to “give” (or perhaps return) sentience and free will to darkspawn by using grey warden blood in a similar ritual to the Joining, and we know that Avernus, a warden dedicated to learning about the blight’s corruption, has successfully kept the Calling away and survived for decades using his research. And our wardens could’ve potentially spared both of these people and ended on somewhat friendly terms with them. AND we know our wardens were searching for a cure to the Calling and in DAI. Therefore! What better (if morally dubious) allies in searching for the cure could our wardens have than those two?

My theories for what Nehra has been up to since awakening is that she’s been working with both of these people to create a “cure.” The Joining taints the wardens who survive it, making them more like darkspawn, so it would make sense that the Architect’s “Joining” makes darkspawn a more like wardens. I feel like the cure that Avernus and the Architect would help create would bridge that gap further, trading blood and rituals until all who undergo it would be something new caught in the middle–not quite darkspawn, not quite warden–and we, the players, would have to make the choice whether or not this cure would be an acceptable fate. Classic man versus self—is trading one’s humanity (or maybe even mortality considering darkspawn don’t seem to be “alive”) worth averting the Calling?

I highly doubt this is an original idea lol, but it’s been bouncing around my head for a while 😅 (if you read this monstrosity of a block of text, thank you and ily 🥹)
