Uhmmmmm soo. Over the past few months I've been seeing a lot of complaints or comments that digimon has too many designs which essentially boil down to “There are too many designs that are just humans in costumes.”
And for a while I just nodded my head and went Yeah Alright, because I Understood where it was coming from (the way most perfect + ultimate levels tend to become more humanoid over their predecessors) and thought it was a valid complaint even if I don’t agree. But eventually it got to the point where I got legitimately invested in wanting to know How Many Digimon there were that you could classify as “basically humans” and well. Here I am.
For the past week or so I came up with my own “categories” and counted how many digimon fit under each category to then later put into a graph like the one you see above ^
I did all of this for like, first and foremost My Own Interest, but I decided to share the results anyways in case someone else thinks this topic of discussion is interesting? I'll include as well under a read more a more in depth guide to the data i've accumulated as well
FYI, Important disclaimers: This is all highly subjective. Im not trying to claim these are any sort of objective categories canon to Digimon or that the results are objectively canon. You may think some or all of these categories are deeply redundant, or you will disagree with me over what counts as say, A Monster or A Furry or A Humanoid, and that’s fine. There are also digimon excluded from the total, most notably digimon that are cameo/minor characters in a singular digimon property, or recolours (ie Gabumon versus Psychemon) or which had minute design differences (Like, almost all of the different Agumons) because I thought including all of that was redundant or unnecessary. If there was a major difference in designs (ie Original Falcomon versus 2006 Savers Falcomon) however I did consider it as a separate design. Also, no X antibody designs were included, because oh my god there are already so many digimon and the X antibody designs could probably merit its own pie chart.

#digimon#dinu yells into the void#dinu yells in the void#long post#sorry for being insane. it will happen again#again this is all purely for Fun and im not trying to like get on a high horse and start beef with people who dont care for humanoid mons#Especially because im not gonna lie a lot of these categories were really hard to do 😭 like deciding which digimon fit under which label#i had a lot of weird specific only i would get it nuances and im probably a lot more gracious/generous to certain mons then others#like i personally considered basically any humanoid who had any kind of unique nonhuman aspect like wings or weird proportions or#unnatural skintones to be like considered inhuman or nonhuman in some way bc well#obvs if you saw someone like that in public normally you wouldn’t think theyre a normal human#im also not a furry so I truly had no idea what counts as a Furry design or not but honestly the biggest surprise i got was finding out how#little anthro designs there actually is in digimon. thought there'd be more!#i might one day come back to do the x antibodies but this took foreverrrr#and i think i might have accidentally fucked the data anyways either from forgetting to include a mon or adding it to the wrong score#oh well

past few days i've been considering a very dangerous idea, a reboot of my First Ever Big Setting, which is a kind of first-contact sci-fi drama but with parallel dimensions instead of aliens. and each dimension has one special guy who is the only one of their kind, (with powers and whatever), and the story is about the depths they have to go to to discover others like them (contacting other dimensions) and even then they mostly find war & violence. anyway what if that but instead of powers they're mech pilots but everything else is similar (near-future militarised police state)
#and it's called Where Hate Rules and it's found in a Setting: Mez tag near you /s#no i'm only kind of kidding. the characters from the mezian empire are based off of those guys from the first setting#and they are mech pilots in a way (medievally). but i'm thinking more sci-fi than theocracy#given that in the first setting those characters were already soooort of mechs if you really think about it?? they WERE the sky#in each earth. an embodiment of the sky. the humanoid puppet used by The Sky#so it works really

I am fascinated by the existence of Creature Vash / The Cretchur. To my knowledge (unless he's following the fandom) Nightow never drew it. None of the crews who worked on either anime drew it. It's just a... fanon. It's like, new Stampede fans took a jaunt through the manga and saw those images of Vash winging out in desperate situations, where it was played for drama and just, went... What if...that... but as adorable little fluffball? Fandom is weird, and I love it. I don't think I've seen it anywhere but tumblr, either, so maybe it's just a tumblr-fandom thing.
#trigun#creature vash#trigun fanon#the only thing that I have to compare this to...#is twerking hordak / bongo-butt hordak in the entrapdak subsection of the she-ra fandom#or maybe dragon-zelda in zelda fandom after tears of the kingdom#as in not the canon dragon but humanoid dragon#but that seems like a more obvious fanart trend#than vash as an innocent fluff creature#back in '98 fandom we were all obsessed with kuroneko#which was a canon creature even if she mostly just appeared in the margins#now it is teru vash toy and non-canonical fluff-vash creature#I do enjoy him though

Worst part of having ocs you made when you were 12 that you still use: changing their names is like pulling teeth.
Wanting to experiment with name meanings or what culture they're from feels impossible when you already have certain sounds associated with them...
#mascon and caldera were named that bc i loved the names as names for siblings since taking an astronomy class in middle school#ameba used to be an ameba boy so I tried to make ame stick.. and I think i just liked the name tsuki in middle school...#this all sucks because the four have increasingly become more and more Chinese over the years..#((at least with mascon and caldera they are second generation immigrants. they both have moon inspired names so they might be easier))#((ame and tsuki tho?? they're plant humanoid experiments. they'd have to be named something for a /reason/ by their creators))#might just bite the bullet one day and pay someone to help me name them#((maybe because i care a lot about name sounds and meanings.. it is a lot easier for me when i only have to look at latin or greek rootword#me being able to write 5 essays on Vera's name meaning meanwhile the name 'deci' gets cricket noises

omg i literally love wheelbitten as a comic and ur art is amazing
random question but how long have u been drawing as an artist and do u have advice.............
thank uuuu and I've been drawin my ass off since I could hold a pencil and I'm 24 (25 next month) now so this shit wasn't overnight by any means lmfao idk the way i did it was have A Thing that you like drawing and just draw the fuck outa it and eventually you'll get better for sure whether it be the desire to get better at drawing said thing makes you do research and study something to become better at it or just literal muscle memory from drawing said thing so much. I had lil spouts of taking time to get better at specific things like anatomy, shading, ect. by studying it but overall i just subconsciously got better by mentally picking up new things everytime i draw and analyzing the world around me. Even recently i got to see that with drawing tactical gear (that ive never really drawn before and never wanted to draw in my life) soley bc i just REALLY fukkin love Ghost and Konig
i went from being terrified and intimidated of drawing tactical gear (even trying to put a gun in front of it as if that was any better lmfao) it used to be vague as hell and my brain would shut down just trying to look at the references(i remember having a ''shit man am i even gunna be able to draw these characters???'' moment of dread the first time i was drawing Konig pffft) to absolutely loving drawing tactical gear and seeing how much more detailed i can make it with every new drawing, so a complete 180 but that's bc im just totally obsessed with the characters and drawing is how i express that sO thats mainly what i mean by just have a thing that you love and want to draw and the rest should follow with time, patience, and practice. I think it's about training your brain and motivation to pick up on details or a certain way something looks in lighting (or lack thereof) bc my brain is probably wired a certain way after art being like a centerpiece of my development to the point to where drawing is just What I Do and at this point if i dont draw for even a few days i start getting vaguely antsy and fidgety it's crazy lmfao SO idk if this is worded like i need it to but yeah art and the act of drawing can be frustrating as hell but it should be enjoyable and rewarding above all else at the end of the day!
#i drew bc the piece of shit im unfortunately biologically related to drew a lot when we were kids so id just copy her#then i drew winged wolves and dragons and the occasional horse for like 7 years then The Axel obsession started#where i drew axel from kindom hearts literally all the time and had 870000 aus for him where i would draw for all of them#when i tell you the obsession for him was catastrophic u best believe but it kept me drawing like a motherfucker until i made my monster oc#which was around the age of 15 is when i started consistently drawing humanoids#OH YEAH i had a whole lion king phase too in 2011 where i would strictly draw lions all the time and my first record of drawing online was#on the lion king fanart archive (which i still visit to look back its like visiting an old janky friend:') )#but yeah then my heart was stolen by my ocs and all the potential designs i could make them#and thats where i am now aside from the festering COD masked men obsession boiling over in the corner AHA#so basically latch onto an obsession and pick up that damn pencil#even as a kid if i liked anything the immediate connection was trying to draw it#didnt matter how weird to draw or undrawable it was my ass would be in that notebook bc its the only way i know how to express myself lmfao#this is long as fuck but NOW im out peace skskksk

I can't tell you how strongly I feel about this
#why the FUCK doesn't dnd have a better umbrella word for sentient peoples than 'humanoid' it sucks so bad#this didn't fit in a single tweet but the context of that specific example was that the kidnapping/ murder victims were slaves#so we were defending our having attacked and killed their abductor over what legally amounts to property damage#juniper: they were people...! / lawful neutral council guy: well. technically and legally they are not#juniper: [SPUTTERING OVER WANTING TO SAY 'THEY WERE HUMAN BEINGS' BECAUSE THE ONLY ALTERNATIVE IS TO JUST SAY 'PEOPLE' AGAIN]#that's unusually specific but describing someone as 'human' to emphasize their... you know... humanity...#using the word 'humanity'; common phrases like 'human error'; etc etc ETC it SUCKS#I play a gnome but she still fucking counts! you KNOW 'humanoid' is not the same fucking thing linguistically#AAAAUUUGHH#about me#posts from twitter

New dream OCs drop (Patreon)
#Doodles#Dream Log#Original#Been a while! I always appreciate when my subconscious mind drops non-human humanoids on me lol#This case is was an older gay couple of like? they looked pretty normal generally but they had a specific feature lol#That when they blushed rather than their skin changing colour their fur would fluff out over their whole body haha#It was very fast! Kinda like Mystique's scale-fur? But only with blushing and then when they calmed down their fur would retract haha#One of the couple was way easier to fluster than the other tho haha so I really only saw it on him#I get the feeling it was also kind of GOmens inspired - specifically Aziraphale which is still so weird to me because I haven't seen??#Or read anything GOmens?? Why brain#Smol was picking on me the other day while we were making Picrews together that I was basically just making a Crowley as well like damn!#Brain why#Anyway lol#These two had that very settled-in married feel of lightly picking on each other out of love haha#The more chill of the two liked to fluster his husband and in return he would lightly poke at him for his old-fashion fashion haha#Which of course he offered as well! Also in play! It was cute#I think they both had blue fur and light skin hmm - you can see the little whispies on ascot lol that was the main different feature#They were chunky and defied gravity like that too! It's gotten fuzzy to recall now but I'm certain of that#How silly

BOY WHO FINISHED PORTAL REVOLUTION!!!!
#expect designs for emily and Stirling. of object head and humanoid variety. if school doesn't make me too busy</3#unfortunately my computer sucks and school tomorrow so i had to cheat and go through the game really fast if i wanted time at all#still!!! it was good despite my computer imploding upon running it!!! (my computers fault mainly shes 10)#im so excited one day i was like “wow i wish there were more mod cores to mess with”#bc. there was only 5 counting the 2 secret ones and one of them is literally just me then i leaned about Stirling.#another thing. werewolf core is probably Australian and revolution made me realize that#bc Emily literally sounds exactly how werewolf core sounds in my head<3 ill choose a different voiceclaim tho so there's not overlap

Additionally - I love the way The Quarry portrays Werewolves. It scratches an itch and makes me giggle even harder at how unserious the wolves in the sims are. Heartbreaking for me as a sims occult lover and werewolf enthusiast
#like I'll never get over it. I didn't expect them to give us something horrific ofc but something a little more monstrous would have been#preferred 😂. I love the wolf townies and I love Moonwood Mill but they're basically humanoid dogs#hardly wolves at all imo. But again personal preference! I just don't like the cutesy cartoonish design#and it doesn't suit my personal lore for Werewolves 🤷♀️ but I digress!#I wish there were more mods out there like how there are for vampires to make them more serious...#but like you can only do so much with that base system and design ig so I get it

I love striving for accuracy bcuz I get to learn so many cool facts abt plants and bugs just bcuz I wanna make sure I get my human Leshy accurate
#more so humanoid I guess#they would still be gods and have monstrous features due to their power#Leshy probably more than the rest of them just bcuz of him being an insect#he is referred to as a worm but I think it's just a cute nickname cuz he's much more of a caterpillar and even if he ISN'T#that's as close as we're getting buddies#anyway Leshy has lots of eyes but before they were torn out he could only actually see out of two of them#the others were just for sensing light and movement#also he has hardly visible ears he hears from membranes on his thorax :]#also the sticks coming outta his head are prolly like lil feelers antennae or smth of that nature

i truly do love speculative biology for fantasy, like if i sat down and actually put time into it i could make a series exploring how different fantasy races would work. but it would genuinely be so long with me just explaining how i'd think the worldbuilding would work it's crazy
#eden mrraps.#and plus i genuinely cannot talk about society worldbuilding without first explaining#1: all of the humanoid races we see likely evolved from the same few ancestors. think like we didnt kill our fellow neanderthals in the#stone age because of uncanny valley#2: culture. oh my god culture and perception of others its so fucking important you have no idea#i can ramble on and on but it would just fucking sound like the first song in the normal album with vampire culture bassboosted#3 that most fantasy races are terribly underdeveloped and racist as hell. sorry the drow have “darker than dark” pruple skin because they#were weird about darker skinned people and didn't wanna properly explore what an underground society of nature loving elves would be like#surrounded by a whole new fauna. yeah the whole “their skin becoming dark” thing i dont think bilogically makes a lot of sense#only because. 1: hoooww would that happen. 2: bitch are they the radioactive frogs from cherynobl. is the fucking underdark radioactive.#thats the only thing off the top of my head no prior research to it that i can think of that'd cause their skin to go darker. radiation#poisoning.#<- also i proved my point. i love speculative biology#writing tag#nerd tag

You did say that adapting to Twilight’s atmosphere makes you feel more comfortable. How did you and your people manage to handle it?
" magic, obviously. " with a beckoning motion a tome glides out from a nearby shelf to come and flutter open just above her grasp. the pages turn on their own to a passage that the queen has deemed relevant to her interest, eyelids lowering in temporary concentration to pick something from its contents.
" 'lo these so called fields can nary be considered a pasture akin to that of the realm of light. no sustenance can be brought forth from their ashy soil, nor any light to bring our seeds to fruition-' blah, blah, blah... " with a derisive tsk the woman rolls her eyes, the pages flipping wildly to another passage, though she barely gives it a glance before a mordant smile creeps across her face.
" on it’s own the Twilight Realm isn’t particularly harmful, but living here without having been… let’s say, an ‘original resident’ wasn’t easy, " the still floating tome lifts along with her hand, a gesture to indicate why she had brought the apparent diary out. " if you didn’t adapt, you didn’t survive. simple as that. as the queen i have the honor of having access to these personal accounts… very few of which are pleasant, hehe. "
her snicker is equally as skewed as her expression, though its sharpest edges dull oh-so slightly when her gaze returns to the book. the once hard curl to her lips softens to hide her fangs, the sight of which had only offered a dangerous edge to her smile. despite her obvious derision towards it's previous owner, the twili seems incapable of maintaining disgust. or, perhaps, she has more history with this tome than one might automatically assume.
with a hum she finds something else that grabs her attention inside, but it's contents remain a mystery to all that do not hold it.
" but our ancestors were tenacious. what couldn’t be found was made, even if it was feeble. and over time their new home changed us as we changed it. " her other hand lifts so that a finger may trace something across the book's pages, as if following a line to one side to the other, dipping occasionally to follow a possible turn or curl. once it reaches the other side, the corners of the queen's mouth lift again, though it lacks the severity of it's earlier iteration.
the hand below closes, and with it the book snaps shut with a slap of finality.
" of course, all of that took place a long time ago. not that light dwellers would find our home unpleasant, but we twili have made the most of our realm, and it to us. "
#ic » ask#hc » behind the veil#this took five years to long to get to#i am so sorry for that#but thank you for your curiosity anon!! ;0;/ i love building on twili hc's!#midna is probably not the best person to ask about this sorta thing tho#if only because a lot of this stuff was drilled into her head as a kid#and returning to it now is like#eugh. homework. AGAIN?#imo though the interlopers were so engaged and enshrouded with magic that their abilities essentially changed them initially#even before coming to the twili realm#and as a place that is basically like#more in tune and/or suffused with magic itself#the first twili were morphed alongside their home to better suit it#along side what they created as a means to survive#sorry if my wording is abstract#in simpler (hopefully) terms i imagine the first people were much like the humanoids you see in hyrule/the light realm#and as time went on the shadows of the twili realm essentially became PART of the interlopers#kind of like how they influenced the land to be more like the light realm#sort of a symbiotic relationship#anyway i could try to delve into it more but i thinkkkk....??? i did a little on a previous hc#and my tags are gonna be whack#BUT THANK YOU AGAIN AAA ♥♥♥

talking RP makes me miss my little idiot who larps as a human from a regency era novel but has no fucking idea about anything at all.
#i am apparently incapable of having normal characters#cause this guy is like a weird little fairy freak from this liminal realm between faerie and earth#where everything lost ends up#and he found a vanished country house that had been left to rot in this like trash heap world#and just moved in and started playing pretend#cause he's so fucking alone and disconnected#and everything he learnt about humans was from the books in the library#so there's nothing modern#and he's piecing together modern humans from the trash they lose#and then he decides to start selling the better lost stuff back to people at carboot sales and markets#and living his best dodgy antique dealer life#and his physical appearance is like purposefully anachronistic against the personality he pretends to have#because the only humanoids he'd actually seen in person before making up his appearance were scavengers and looked rough#every oc I make is a mountain biking vampire witch from the future#and i don't fucking regret a thing#my favorite genre of character is : wtf is going on - but like - personified#followed closely by: im so fucking angy because i can't process grief#and then finally: dog

one thing that really depresses me about pokemon nowadays is you know those posts about male/non-gendered monster design vs female monster design? male fantasy race design vs females of the same species design? that’s what female-only or specifically female pokemon are like now
#like girl they are CREATURES#it drove me insane how in legends arceus normal unimportant pokemon were it/its#but the nobles were gendered and they only picked extremely humanoid feminine pokemon to be the ladies#like electrode is an orb that explodes.#avalugg is a hunk of ice. But of course they’re male.
