i’d hate to come across as a tommy kinard defender (please lord, i would never) but i have seen people say that tommy was cruel for stringing buck along when he knew their relationship wouldn’t have a future and i categorically disagree with that.

dating someone CAN be fun and intense and good and special even if you know from the beginning that the relationship doesn’t have long-term potential. millions of people date casually. millions of people are in serious relationships even if they know that they have “expiration dates” because of many reasons.

buck and tommy were celebrating 6 months together, which isn’t an insignificant amount of time but is also not that long in the grand scheme of things. we were shown that buck and tommy still didn’t know each other that profoundly and were mostly just enjoying being with each other in a laid-back way.

and then, the minute that buck showed tommy that he was thinking about the relationship in a deeper manner, tommy broke it off. it’s pretty safe to assume that buck and tommy hadn’t had any conversations about the future and their commitment to each other in the long run. the only conversation about what they were that we were shown focused very much on buck wanting to start something with tommy, on wanting to explore being with him.

the way that things were framed i believe shows tommy knew from the beginning that their relationship was transitory, fun, and easygoing, and he probably assumed buck was on that same page as well. and when he realized buck wanted to start a new chapter for them tommy ended their relationship because he knew that it was never their story that they were telling.

In an OPLA verse version of the “Zoro and Sanji met and started dating before the Straw Hats formed” premise, the reveal of their relationship would go like—

they behave totally as they do in canon up to when Sanji brings the Straw Hats their drink orders.

then Sanji intentionally starts shit with Zoro (“You know, we do also serve food here.”). they start bickering (there are reaction shots from a wary Nami, a raptly interested Luffy, and an increasingly alarmed Usopp) until Zoro legitimately draws Wado and takes a swing at Sanji.

Usopp and Luffy both start out of their seats but Sanji blocks Zoro’s swing easily. there’s a beat of total silence—even some of the nearby tables are watching, stunned—and then both Zoro and Sanji crack up. Zoro sheathes Wado and just fuckign. does the scoop-up-and-twirl-around-into-a-big-ol’-smooch maneuver on a grinning Sanji right there in the middle of the dinner service (reaction shot of the other Straw Hats, looking various degrees of flabbergasted).

masai condescendingly referring to cleon as “miss”, and then a moment later cleon using it as an honorific when referring to cyrus, is such a slick way of acknowledging his hypocrisy without so much as breaking the flow of her argument

i feel like Magneto: Origins handled the death of Magda and Anya (Nina) way better than in Xmen Apocalypse

they show how Erik and Magda meet in the camps unlike Apocalypse where they just mention about them randomly meeting.

despite being brief they still manage to show a lot more character in Anya and Magda which makes the impact of their deaths even greater.

the small moments of Erik being playful and happy with his family just makes me want to cry ☹️

after Erik recovered himself from throwing up in the woods after “accidentally” killing someone in a bar, he walks home hearing words throw at him like ‘the devil’ or ‘witch man’. he soon sees smoke in the direction of his house.

running over he sees a small mob burning his house down shouting “kill the monster!”, he then notices both Magda and Anya in the burning building. trying to go in and save his wife and daughter, he’s stopped by the mob.

Erik manages to break through the angry people but parts of the building collapses over the only way in which then leads to Magda and Nina dying. Distraught (obviously) Erik freaks out, his powers going into overdrive, killing everyone in his path as he runs out of town.

gawd damn ☹️

what makes this better is that their deaths weren’t used in the classic fridging way like apocalypse used, obviously it does lead Erik on in the story but not in the way like “i’m going to become a villain now” or “i must get revenge for their deaths”

in the first quarter of the movie Erik says, multiple times, that he isn’t a killer. even though he has killed someone, he didn’t mean it 😿

honestly this doesn’t cover the full way of how they treat Magda and Anya but just know that its way better than the fridging from Apocalypse 😔

and also ‘second chance at love’ love interest Charles Xavier 😁 Erik deserves that hot bald guy

if i was better at writing these kind of things i would keep going but i’m not so this is as much as we will get 🙁

RIP Magda and Nina, you deserved better writers 💔

So many things to love about TROP, but Charlie Vickers is just brilliant! I never thought the Lord of the Rings could be a fav character of mine(I mean I love Hobbits)!! After watching Charlie as Halbrand>Annatar>Sauron…he IS so much more interesting in a way that I don’t think even Tolkien could’ve ever accomplished!!! I guess really what Payne/McKay have done is just give him the Anakin/Vader treatment that GL presented in the prequels…

So I’m definitely not the first person to have realized this, but while I was looking through some assets I stumbled across the tomb stone sprite sheet and realized the text was in a funky script, and realized it’s the same script that’s used on a handful of duplicant made buildings such as the super computer, and hastily scribbled down the cipher to the best of my abilities since I couldn’t find an actual font or sprite sheet for it in game

I probably got some things a bit wrong since the text is so small, but I thought I’d share in case anyone else found this interesting 👍
