Omg I love your writing so much I’m just dying to how Bruce got the batkids in bloodletting? I know Damian and Cass were covered a little bit with death watch being the league of assassins in this case, but what about dick? Was the circus like… an intergalactic traveling circus? Maybe Tim’s parents instead of being socialites were some other station of power, generals or something who were killed in battle? Does Duke still have a metahuman bio dad? And Steph… is there like a mando version of CPS?
Ah thank you for asking about this anon! I've had some side stories/shorts in mind for bloodletting, but haven't gotten around to them since the main plot is heating up a lot (and writing the chapters is a lot of work).
The bare outline I usually work with in my mind is:
Damian was part of Death Watch/Kyr'tsad under Talia. He's not Bruce's son, despite Talia's desire to have a child with him. Talia beat him horribly when he questioned her orders and Bruce found him on a raid or mission and adopted him. Damian never renounced Talia so she's still technically his buir, which is difficult since she tortured and somewhat disfigured him (semi-permanent limp).
Cass was raised as a child soldier by Death Watch/Kyr'tsad. Like many of the unfortunate children in this scenario, she was set across from Mand'alor Wayne on the battlefield. I'm not entirely sure what happened, but she defected and Bruce adopted her on the spot.
Dick was the child of spacers Bruce encountered while on a mission. His parents died in a ship crash and Bruce -- newly Mand'alor I think -- took Dick with him as he finished his mission, as they were in a remote area. Once he completed the mission, he took Dick back to Mandalore and gave him the option to find his family or return to another planet. Dick wanted to stay with Bruce, and they said the gai bal manda a few moments later. Probably in front of a tearful Alfred or something.
Jason grew up on Concord Dawn, like the character I sometimes model him after (Jango). Bruce encountered him on a mission like he did with Dick. I'm debating him having the same background as Jango (Bruce helps him avenge the deaths of his buire who were killed for sheltering the Mand'alor from Kyr'tsad) but haven't firmly decided yet. Regardless of his backstory, Bruce knew the instant he saw him -- in the Manda and in real life -- that he would be the next Mand'alor.
Tim, I have sometimes considered, was the child of Mandalorian socialites/etc who joined the New Mandalorians and eschewed the Haat'ade ways of the new Mand'alor. They were close with Bruce's father, the former Mand'alor, but didn't agree with the new empire. Tim jumped a ship as soon as he knew how, demanded to be let into the Haat'ade stronghold, and for an audience with the Mand'alor. I like to think Bruce adored him instantly but didn't adopt him for fear of stepping on his former buire's toes. Tim thought that was ridiculous, renounced them despite Bruce's protests, and basically strongarmed Bruce into saying the gai bal Manda. Otherwise he was going to get like, one of the guards to do it (they all loved this crazy mando kid from the passive New Mandalorians and were fighting each other for second chance at adoption)
Duke I like to think has non-baseline human ancestry that isn't quite apparent visually. I haven't decided what that is yet. He came to serve his Mand'alor as a young orphan when he heard about Bruce's rise to the throne. Dick immediately grabbed him, shook him in front of Bruce, and was like are you seriously employing kids? To which Bruce said [puppy eyes] and started training him as a guard, if only to protect himself. The adoption happened a few months later.
Steph, I'm not sure yet. But I like your idea, anon! Mandalorians feel very fiercely about the treatment of children. I imagine, however Bruce came into contact with her, it was intense. And she was secretly relieved and happy to be adopted and wanted that badly.

Do you think that in the end, even if Arajin manages to bring Matakara out of the darkness, they will still be best friends? because I feel like their friendship might not stay the same. You know, I don't want Bucchigiri to end with a rushed and poorly done ending. It would be very boring if they became friends again after everything Arajin did to Matakara.
Hello anon!
And I do think they can be friends but I feel they would need to start small first. I can't imagine that Matakara would just be willing to completely absolve Arajin of abandoning him and lying to him for so long. And knowing how he mistreated his old friend since their reunion, it would make sense that Arajin would make an effort to accept his grievances and try to rebuild their friendship.
Plus it would be good for Matakara to also take it slow and learn to accept the type of person Arajin truly is in terms of flaws and strengths. He isn't the perfect Honki Person he needed him to be, but he's an average boy with his own personality. So it would be good for Matakra to take his time with accepting him again.
And I personally won't think of that type of ending as boring but I would find it rather disappointing that they would rush it. I'm hoping that won't be the case.

Hey there whump-fellow! I was wondering if you might help me out a bit. I'm writing an original superhero story for Camp NaNo this year and I want the main character's superpower to come with whumpy side-effects, but I am having a hard time coming up with anything even slightly original in that regard. Do you have any suggestions or examples I might play off of? Also, I am going to ask around to a few whump blogs to cast a wider net! Any suggestions as to whom I should ask?
Telekinesis/mind reading with a side effect of migraines. Agony, sensitivity to light/noise. Days-long pain after just using their powers once, which causes the pavlovian response of an awful headache starting up just at the thought of using their powers.
Fire powers that leave burns, thick scars that hurt less and less the more the powers are used but the nerves die more and more, meaning that the whumpee loses feeling in their fingers, then hands, then arms. They will miss out on feeling gentle breezes, soft blankets, holding hands with a friend.
Ice powers that cause frostbite. They can put out a fire, stop an enemy instantly, catch someone who is falling before they die… but the pain afterward is intense, and they always have to weigh the benefits of saving lives versus potentially losing a part of their own body. Or their powers give frostbite to anyone that the ice touches!
Invincibility that lasts for as long as it’s being used, but after the battle is over, in safety, all the damage hits at once. Bruises bloom in purples and blues, cuts spring forth and leave the whumpee scrambling to apply pressure and soak up too much blood before they pass out.
Invisibility/phasing that is strategically useful because the whumpee can sneak or pass through obstacles, but it makes their body have too loose a grasp on reality and their loved ones lose memories of them. They may be able to sneak into a dangerous place and get out unharmed, but their mother or partner will now struggle to recall their name.
A superpower that was desperately wished for in an hour of need, but now every time that it’s used, something precious has to be sacrificed. For the power to be used, an hierloom has to be chosen to disappear from existence, or a limb has to be chosen to never work without pain again, or a comforting memory has to be forgotten. Eventually this would leave the whumpee tougher, less sensitive to loss, but they would also have so much less comfort to come home to. This power would work great as a “gift” from a deity, fae, supernatural creature, or a naively summoned ghost.
Villain-turned-hero who used to use their powers for evil, but now that they are fighting for good, their powers keep trying to turn on them. They used to melt guards’ weapons and locks off vaults, but now that they try to melt doors shut to keep out storms or villains, the molten metal sputters and hits their skin. Or they used to make their nemesis’ armor, tools, or on their most evil day, that nemesis’ most cherished friend disappear; but now after a long hard day of protecting people, when they come home, they find that their partner is missing. They find that their car keys are gone, their fridge, their shoes. Sometimes it is a small thing they won’t even miss, and sometimes it is something so devastating to lose that they fall to their knees and sob.
The superpower of being able to compel that the truth be given after they ask a question. Very useful for a detective, a hero in a corrupt society littered with propaganda, a spy trying to work their way up in an evil organization. But if they ask a question that someone doesn’t know the answer to, it can drive that person mad. If they ask a question someone would rather die than answer, they will give the truth but then be emotionally broken from admitting that aloud. If that person would rather kill than answer…
Any power which has no direct side effects immediately after use, but which is forbidden or horrifying for some reason. Maybe it is the power to bring the dead back to life for just long enough to answer questions, which is morally complicated. Maybe it’s the power to cause intense agony without leaving physical marks. Maybe it’s the ability to travel through time, which causes alternate universes to sprout up and can cause mass deaths, confusion, or chaos in the future. Whatever the power is, it has to be used for some reason, and hiding its use and its consequences leaves the hero afraid, unable to trust anyone, and devastatingly ashamed. This could lead to angsty confessions, betrayal, abandonment, a public execution, banishment, etc.
A very subtle, pleasant power that is embarassingly weak in a time when more power is needed. the ability to numb pain, which feels useless during war when people are bleeding out and losing friends. the ability to see the future in a time when everyone knows what the horrifying outcome will be and no one can stop it. the ability to stop time, but not to move or change what is happening, which just leaves the hero stuck to think, to rely on their own mind to try to solve a terrible problem while seeing everyone frozen in a moment of pain or fear.
I’m not sure about other whump blogs you could ask, but anyone who sees this post is totally welcome to add ideas! The side effects of the superpower don’t have to be direct or ironic, so any random idea could be perfect for the story! No idea is bad!
#whump#prompts#writing prompts#story ideas#this was extremely fun to think about#thank you for asking me!#this really has me thinking about tragic powers and makes me wanna write…#i would be so thrilled if this inspired somebody to write a story with one of these powers!!!!#superhero#villain#answered#Anonymous

Happy STS! Seasons are changing. Tell me how one or more of your characters would react. Are they dressing cozy? Obsessed with everything pumpkin? Have they been prepping for Halloween since last year?
Thank you for asking! I really like this one.
You(as in, the human, who lives on a spaceship with your alien found family) decide to start planning a Halloween celebration.
You aren't sure why, considering you don't actually know what time it is on Earth. It's hard to keep track in space under the best of circumstances, and being kidnapped, experimented on, and abandoned is definitely not the best circumstances. But it feels like the right time-- something old in your bones recognizes it-- and anyways, you're bored.
You(as in, the alien who has somehow stumbled your way into becoming friends with a human) is mostly confused by the whole thing. Autumn on your world is harvest, the celebration of growing things and the onset of cold wind rustling through fur. Summer is the time of terror, when the world gets hot hot hot and the vultures circle and you have to shave your fur lest you get heatstroke. They don't really have any traditions of dressing up, unless you count hoods to keep away the heat, but those are practical first and foremost, even if some people do decorate them. And you've never worn those, those are from the desert area of your planet, which has been the most influential in terms of culture. You live near the tropics, where the humidity sinks into your bones. Autumn is the time that is safe, that is cold and crisp and clean. You cannot imagine fearing it.
... but your human does seem happy, and you like seeing it smile. So you hang up decorations, and let it strap ears to your head even though you already have ears, and play along. You are a diplomat, after all. You know how to deal with other cultures that you do not understand. And you have fun with it, seeing your humans eyes alight at the sight of the grofonshlaw, which apparently looks a lot like a pumpkin, and munching on apples.
It's a good day. For both of you.

For the writer ask meme:
#4 for Home Across the Universe ?
4: What’s your favorite line of dialogue?
Oh man, this is a difficult one. Given that the series is almost 900k long, there's so much dialogue I love and had fun writing. This piece holds a particularly dear spot in my heart, though, from Chapter 17 of Letters for the Dead:
“I forgive you, Stiles,” John said and put extra force behind it. “For everything you think you’ve done, for everything you have done, I forgive you. Now and always. I forgive you, sweetheart.”
The whole exchange that happens in this part came to my while I was at work and I remember having to go to the bathroom and hide in a stall while it unfolded in my mind because it made me effin bawl. And then I went back to my desk and pretended to do my job while writing everything that made me cry in an email to myself so I wouldn't lose it before I got home that night, lol.
This piece is also high up in my favorites, from Chapter 8 of Whistle i the Dark:
Dad took it, looked inside, and something tense eased in his stance. “Brownies?” “Special brownies!” Scott called out, eliciting choked off noises from all the deputies. “Not those kind of special brownies!” Stiles said, panicked. Good god, Stiles couldn’t take Scott anywhere.
I sat at the computer giggling to myself for five solid minutes after I wrote it.

I'm writing a destiel fanfic and am trying to challenge myself, so give me one thing to happen in it. Could be anything, including killing off a character or a crossover with another show, provided I can watch the source material. If the crossover is for one of the fandoms in my pinned, then I'm definitely going to be able to do it, but if it's not, I can't guarantee anything. :>
hm. sex-pollen, but the narrative purpose of the sex-pollen is not to get them to have sex.

8, 11, 22 for Mara/Jack and Mara/J I H Z Z Y
Ref post
8.Who is the big spoon? Little spoon?
Jihara- which is the couple name for J I H Z Z Y and Mara. I think we can all guess who is the big spoon.
It's Mara. J I H Z Z Y is the little spoon.
For Jack & Mara, who don't have a couple name because we've not came up with one yet.
Jack is the big spoon. Before he got the extra inches (his height, don't be in the gutter lmao) from his Sigframe, he was a like a Jetpack on Mara. Kinda cute. He wasn't that much shorter than Mara, only a couple.
9.Who is clingy?
For Jihara- Mara is the more clingy one. Something about this rockerboy leaves Mara desperate for his attention. Maybe it's because his fame makes her feel insecure? Especially knowing that Missy (Our pop queen) has had his audience a few times. Of course it was only for discussing Collab and Missy asking J I H Z Z Y to get Gordie to look her way again, but it still made Mars hella jealoussssss!!!!
For Jack & Mara- Jack is the clingy one. He has always hung on every word Mara has ever said since he fell in love with her when they were 9. She'd come over one morning, with her frizzy of unmanageable mane, her glasses, and braces, something in the way she smiled, something in the way she was so excited to talk about this new show she watched, when she crawled into the blanket fort dubbed Fort. Adams with his twin brother, just made him realize she was the one for him. While they have always been inseparable, after getting together in Water on Mars, the two are rarely seen without each other, and Mara will never admit to anyone but him, there's no place else she'd rather be.
22. What is something - either character - doesn't like about the other?
Jihara- For J i h z z y, I can't speak for him on this, but IF I were to guess, it would be that Mara's content with going any minute, she's okay living the rest of her days as a merc. He wants more for her.
For Mara, She doesn't like that J I H Z Z Y has never taken being a merc serious, despite this being the whole reason he's here for his next album. He's not improved and too many times she's had to hold herself back to tend to him to to be near him in the invent that something horrible does happen, she has to get him hooked to a Cryo-bag stat.
Jack & Mara- For Jack, He hates Mara being a merc. Well, at first. He was SOOOO AGAINST IT!!! That was, until one day she was coming home from a gig that she blew him off for, she was pushed onto N-CART track and left for dead.. But she wasn't. Maelstrom scavs near by took advantage of a fresh corps to pick apart, but the only Cyberware she had at the moment of value was her KIROSHI 075362K Limited Gold Edition w/ the following upgrades:
-Low-Light/Infrared/UV
-Color Shift
-Anti-Dazzle
But they were fried when she fell on the track, and left blind. THE ONLY saving grace was that Mara had a Frequent Flyer card addressed to a Titus Atredies (Space prince) and they saw their chance for a good cash cow that they wanted to milk dry. However, He never showed. I have no clue what the Boosters planned on, but Mara was almost never seen again. If it hadn't been for her brother putting a tracker in her bag, a spy toy from when they were kids, which he'd recently given to Jayce before he was arrested. (Look theres a lot, that was going on at that time. I would need a soild hour to explain.). Mara had pinged Jago several times to get her, and he hadn't showed either. Blind, she knew that she wouldn't fair well, but she was gonna die trying. She didn't want to know what they planned for her. Just as she got ready to make a break for it, Jack showed up and killed the two guys in the front seat. That's when he decided he had to be proactive, he had to protect her or else she was going to end up like her friend Jennifer Costa.
& also he hates mara's ex jago a lot and hates that she even has anything to do with him still
Mara HATES that Jack can never say what he feels. Its always gotta be to the point of no return for him to finally make his move. Mara wasn't blind to how Jack felt, but when she made her move, he didn't respond? So she was kinda left confused, and maybe thought it was for the best. She stood the most to lose if it didnt work. It wasn't until He heard about Mara and Titus had broken up, thats when he went to make his move. LIKE DUDE WHY? UUUUGGGGHHHHHH

For fic writer asks: 1, 9 and 24 please :)
Thank you so much for asking!! For this ask game
I am going to put the questions:
1) What’s something new that you tried in a fic this year? How did it turn out and would you do it again?
I tried doing a 5+1 Times fic. I was really happy with how it turned out. It was my first fic in a new to me fandom (Guardian) and the structure of the six sections made it easy to plan out. I would do it again if I had an idea for it.
9) What fic meant the most to you to write?
I think The Visits an MDZS modern au in which Lan Xichen and Meng Yao are engaged and take each other to each of their mother's graves to introduce them on mother's day. I put a lot of personal details in it so it meant a lot.
24) What's something that surprised you while you were working on a fic? Did it change the story?
In the fic Undead Like Me it was supposed to be about Ouyang Zizhen becoming a fierce corpse but I wrote a scene from Sect Leader Yao's pov and I really enjoyed it so the fic went on this tangent of Yao/SL Ouyang lol.

I remember we met because of a post of mine asking about aromantic characters and how to write them if my memory is correct (usually is not).
But anyways I think I forgot to mention that I found out I'm aro not long after that so uh... thanks!
Yeah, that's right, I remember that.
And awesome!! It's genuinely super cool that something I said helped you figure that out. Welcome to the club!

Happy World Building Wednesday! Describe your current WIP without using any character names, place names, or terms exclusive to your world. Is it even possible?
Doing this on Thursday as I was out most of yesterday: the big thing I'm working on currently centres on a young couple in the aftermath of the near-end of the world, and a series of personal and interconnected traumas that have both bonded them and caused deeply wounding discord between the two. They're discovering, along with a wide net of comrades who've thrown themselves into the task of rebuilding, that healing has to be a collective effort - whether the wound is personal, environmental, or political.
There's also a shorter piece I'd like to be able to share some time next week. It's about a little girl, a missing mother, a solstice party going on way too long, and the horror of knowing something is wrong while no-one will take you seriously enough to tell you, to give you the tools to protect yourself.
