There's actually a few more pieces tied into some fandom events that won't be released to later in the year, but when I reflect on my last six months? Here ya go - let's start with visual, and I'll also share fics and memes lol ~

Since this is a long post, I'll put everything under the cut 😎

Here are the listings for the above, with some commentary below, and each individual post also has image descriptions 🤗

1. "Your eyes, like a church window." - Louis

This was technically my second piece of IWTV art (if I recall correctly lol) but it's one of my faves because of the religious subtext of the lights forming a cross, and the darkness lurking just beneath with the blood splatter on the clothes. When I think of Louis I think layers upon layers upon layers. And I really wanted to capture that with this piece: that of course there's the first impression, but there's some details, too that once you put it all together conveys a deeper complexity, kind of like Louis 🤗

2. "He found you lost, and guided you." - Armand

And probably my most popular art piece to date, that I can't imagine topping any time soon - my Muslim!Armand piece. Thanks to my own fandom history and getting to know many people, I personally can vouch that some queer religious rep is meaningful to not only me but several of my friends. All rep is important of course, and though I'm not personally Muslim, I thought of the friends in my past who this might mean a lot to as I was working on it, and also tried to honor his history by giving it Renaissance and a sort of Da Vinci sketchbook vibes - and I was grateful and humbled that it's resonated with others as well.

3. "Would you like me to play for you?" - Rockstar!Lestat

This was my first time drawing leather, and I listened to Maneskin the entire eight hours this took to draw. That's it, that's the vibes with that one lol!

4. "You're his destiny, Louis." - Loustat

I'm fairly certain this was my first piece for IWTV - I went in hard lol. Religious allegories? Check! Blood and violence? Check Check!! You got Saint Louis, blood tears that remind me of Marian statues crying blood (and I may have already made some commentary about that here), and then of course sacrificial love - the whole inscription that reads "suffering feels religious if you do it right." Like I went so fucking hard yo lolll.

5. "Eddie's Favorite Jacket" - Eddie Munson

Switching gears because I am capable of other fandoms lol - Eddie! I did this one just last month, and I think it might be one of my favorites 😍 I adore Eddie, I vibe with the ND coded energy (allow me to project lol). And getting to draw this for a friend's fic was a bonus!

But also, reflecting on the last year of fic writing ~ that would mostly be my dark fic for The Old Guard! You can read more about it here, but also my precanon fic, which you can find out more about here, I also really enjoyed the covers I made for them which you can see below (including the Joe and Nicky manips!) 🤗

OREL HC????? Okay, first I'll say the hc I have (all silly, nothing serious?) and then I get cheesy...uh

Right, first let's start with uhhhh a silly headcanon I have is that when he was younger he wanted to be like Reverend Putty...for his great service to God and all that uh. Then when he grew up he'd want to study to be a doctor...it's a good profession for him (I know I explained this in a post a few months ago), he likes to help people, and he'd definitely give his patients loads of attention without being as negligent as the doctor in Moralton lmao. (I should do a whole post about this as I actually have a lot to say about his career path)

I'm a firm believer that at some point he continued to smoke weed...maybe in his teens?? He'd know it was wrong, but it helped him to zone out, so it was fun, plus he'd definitely hang out with people who smoked too, and Orel is...very easily influenced.

Definitely in school he'd be smart, but also REALLY DISTRACTED...and goofy, I'm pretty sure hardly any girls would be interested in him. (Maybe he also became a bit weird), he's bad at picking up hints and reading people's body language... so everyone would have to be REALLY direct if they wanted to talk to him about anything. (Aahh he'd probably have to move outta Moralton to study for a serious doctor career...then he'd have to adapt to new people...bad boys)

He'd probably only start officially dating Christina when they were both legal...and she had the freedom to leave her house whenever she wanted!!! Happy ending.

CHRISTINA IS SADISTIC-

...I didn't say anything, but if Orel is a masochist and Christina's an 'alternative' version of him then uh, I don't want to think about what would have happened in her chapter...

In his teens he'd really enjoy grunge and soft rock...uhgg I dunno, I just feel it. (Even though he's not that into music)

He's a goofy..nice...overprotective.....VERY overprotective dad, and that'd cause problems with his kids when they hit their teens...stupid (I love him) Orel..aahg, I mean, aahhh I also think he'd do loads of things that embarrass his kids!! But without realising lmao, he'd be like...trying to talk like them? That 'teen language' as he calls it haha.

IN HIS TEENS A LOT HAPPENED - UGH, not just between him and his parents...I mean also with his 'friends', even if he stopped being (just a bit) innocent, loads of people would definitely manipulate him into doing anything.

I don't think Clay and Bloberta ever divorced lmao, feel like they just stayed together and miserable...just like in that pic Orel has in his living room (Plus, I love that pic, it proves Orel doesn't hide his parents, he loves them despite everything and he'd definitely tell his kids to love them...wwgggh)

You know what I'm pretty sure about? Doughy and Orel got into a fight and came to blows in their teens, what caused it? Probably Doughy, in loads of episodes he looked like he was betraying his best mate for attention and affection from an adult...(but ugh, don't judge, it's written so well and we know why he did all that, even though that doesn't mean it was right, yeah, plus...there's no guarantee he changed after that, if we think about it Doughy had NO ONE, to teach him right from wrong), at some point he'd do a 'silly betrayal', to Orel...that'd make him SO ANGRY (cos it's not the first time) that mixed with a strong IMPULSE LMAO, he'd punch him, then he'd punch him back...and well, it'd all end with forgiveness and Doughy learning something.

And that's just a part of what I have cos I wrote a lot lmao...

heeey! you just answered my post ❤️ to be honest it’s such a stupid affirmation to say that betty has no backbones, she’s the strongest character I’ve ever seen or read about and watching her getting stronger and stronger during her journey it’s so satisfying to me, she makes me feels things I wish I could feel, she accomplished things I wish I could have accomplished it. talking about me personally, watching betty deal with misogyny/racism coming from women and gay men, watching them mock her features, her body, her presence, dehumanising her, it really was a experience where I felt like I was holding hands with her all the way. when she found the letter, her time in Cartagena finding herself, the fashion show where Hugo tries to humiliate the Quartel publicly and she stands up for them. betty taught me something very important “la cabecera de la mesa esta donde yo esté sentada”

“[Betty] is the strongest character I’ve ever seen” exactly and it’s shocking how people don’t notice it! From the beginning we see how resilient of a character she is! It’s not easy to endure rude remarks (Hugo, Gutierrez) and humiliation (Marcela’s comparison) with a stoic face, yet Betty was able to so! She continued with the interview process without batting an eyelash. She acknowledged that the employees (Ig the superiors) were rude yet at the end of the day she laughed it off. If I were her I would’ve cried myself to sleep especially if I experienced Marcela’s comparison! Like how are you going to get my hopes up with a 2nd round of interviews all for yall to compare me to a beautiful woman!! And let’s not forget the whole situation with Armando’s agenda or phone book (whatever it was). The way Marcela went feral to snatch the book from Betty’s hands and how she tried firing her was crazy! I would’ve given her the agenda or definitely quit on the spot ain’t no way I’ll continue dealing with a crackhead. Ik that at the end of the day she needs the job but I just feel like these situations really highlights how mentally strong she is and especially how selfless she is! She’s willing to endure the abuse from her superiors to keep her job that feeds her family! And as someone who’s mentally weak I can’t help but feel jealous of Betty’s mental strength. I remember when I started working at retail job a few years ago I ended up quitting on my third day... All because I couldn’t handle the look of annoyance of my supervisor when I asked questions on how to do my job and how a customer was rude as hell when I struggled finding an item for her. Remembering how Betty endured worse to straight up abuse I can’t help but feel compassion for her yet I admire her fortitude. And tbh, even tho I hate it, it was great how they didn’t hold back with the jokes in ysblf. The mild jokes to the dehumanization help the audience relate to Betty even more since its experiences we all endured in our lives especially when you’re a minority. (I don’t think Betty would’ve had the same impact if they stuck with the mild jokes imo). This why I love the quote mentioned!! It’s so impactful and layered!! To see how far she came with overcoming her low self esteem by standing up to her abusers and making it clear to them that she will not let herself be trampled on again is so satisfying to watch!! Plus she let’s everyone(the shareholders and audience) know that she’s always been the main character 💅

DCLA aficionados, i've got you covered for the month of June! say hello to the first ever edition of DCLA PRIDE MONTH!

i had the idea to dedicate this special month to the queer couples we love from our favourite shows. a while back i asked my friends (couldn't have done it without their help as we all know i haven't watched 2/3rds of these shows lol) and thanks to their help and support, the dcla pride month 2023 is now officially happening!

The way she looks at him, the way she kisses him, it's the first thing he notices about her. So I think the same thing for their first time. I definitely can imagine Armando seeing Betty's tender gazes at him in the darkness, and her caressing his face. Maybe she even smiles at him at some point. softly kissing his cheek. Like i love the idea that there were times when she (HIM TOO) stopped kissing to hold each other's faces or to stare sweetly at each other. He probably asked if she was doing ok (because he thought she was a virgin) there's much to think about

4. a story idea you haven’t written yet

for a fic specifically I want to write one where jiang yanli survives the stab at nevernight but wei wuxian still dies, thinking that jiang yanli had died for him, set from after his death to post canon, alternating through all three yunmeng siblings povs, exploring how that would change the story and how the grief would work (because I'm the grief guy)

8. if you had to write a sequel to a fic, you’d write one for…

oh god I don't think any of my fics are designed w enough real plot for a sequel? they're all meant to just be snapshots of time, but I guess if I had to choose it would be this one even tho I'm still writing it lmao, so that I could write about wangxian adopting a bunch of kids lmao

11. a WIP you’d like to finish someday

in theory I'd love to finish this fic because it Has an ending and I hate to leave something unfinished, but I started writing it while my mom was sick/right after she died, as a way to explore my own complicated relationship with grief, and now it's just not something I Need to write anymore, it served it's purpose

hmmm I'd say that I really love to get into a characters head and feel all of the feelings I think they'd feel and figure out how to effectively convey that to other people

don't you want to share the guilt!!! in retrospect I would change a lot of things now, I think I softened jiang cheng a little too much to be honest, but it was the first fic I ever wrote and the first long piece I'd done since high school, and I'd say as a piece of writing it still stands up pretty fuckin well

Jim & Yam were watching tv when they were like 8 and saw two characters kissing and decided to try it, and that’s how they had their first kiss

Camila was playing hide and seek with her siblings and cousins and wanted to prove that she was the best at it, so she climbed to the top of a very tall shelf, but eventually they got called to lunch and she didn’t know how to get down so she stayed there, and everyone forgot to go look for her, because there were like 15 kids so it was easy to forget one, the adults only noticed she was gone when she wasn’t in bed at night, and that’s how she stayed trapped on a shelf for an entire day :)

🧬 a headcanon about their family:

Jim & Yam were raised by single moms who were best friends so they were always together growing up

Camila has four siblings: the twins, who are two years younger than her, a boy who is 3 years younger than her and a girl who is 7 years younger, but has a different mom

Yam is fluent in Russian because one day she was bored and decided to start learning, and then she was like “might as well learn the whole thing”

As for Aymeric…

Long story short, they never fostered an actual real relationship before just getting in the nitty gritty of intimacy because it is my religious belief that Aymeric is deeply repressed like a Catholic maiden and Utushama kept just leaving for MSQ immediately the day after they’d fool around. Utushama assumed they were on the same page (this wouldn’t work because they have conflicting responsibilities) (this is also kind of an excuse, he’s starting to develop a pattern of starting something, ditching ASAP, and then using MSQ as a noble excuse) but they weren’t really. I love to pretend Lucia is mad at him for this because it made Endwalker kind of funny. Usual spoiler warning for everything ahead!

Short story long, after the Dragonsong War’s end, they kept things entirely professional including their dinner and dealing w the aftermath of it all but were slowly (and I mean SLOWLY) building a tension between them like it was a Victorian period drama. Like, a show of ankle would give Aymeric a heart attack at this point. So they had two days of building up to this that no one in the world could’ve possibly guessed was any kind of build up to anything followed by one night of Halone-dishonoring acts (initiated by Utushama because why not. Why not hit and run the beautiful President of Dragon Catholics City after you saved them all. Especially after increasingly escalating moments of barely repressed interest). And immediately after, without explanation or any warning, Utushama left for MSQ, with the assumption that they were both in agreement that they couldn’t have an actual relationship because one of them loves their country more than anything else in the world and the other is a traveling adventurer. He didn’t say this because it was so obvious to him but Aymeric was obviously left a little confused and feeling slightly abandoned but bigger things at stake, y’know.

And then they meet again when Ala Mhigo is liberated because all the Eorzean Alliance leaders are there and Utushama is feeling very disoriented and bad because Zenos just killed himself in front of him, denying him of any closure to the distress he’s been feeling for all of Stormblood. And they are once again very professional as if they hadn’t explored each other’s bodies that one time. Aymeric invites him to dinner again and when the subject of trying to define their relationship is brought up, Utushama deflects by hitting him point-blank with the “ok, do you want to do that again” and Aymeric is flustered enough by this that despite being a very savvy politician, the Catholic maiden part of him overrides the many slightly orange flags. Once again, Utushama slips away without warning immediately after.

They don’t speak again until right after the Ghimlyt Dark, wherein canon provided me a lovely moment of quiet between the two of them. Utushama, being injured, is then unable to escape from this conversation that Aymeric begins, wherein Aymeric himself first confesses to hoping to be something more serious, to which Utushama answers in a manner that is between bafflement and regret that they weren’t ever going to be a thing (because again, he thought they were on the same page about this). Aymeric is sad but can see the logic in this and admits that Utushama deserves someone who cares more about him than their political responsibilities, who could and would follow him to the ends of the earth. (There is no reason for him to be so self-deprecating on the matter because it’s not as if he were the one at fault for this, but Utushama just has a way of making people feel bad for wanting reasonable things from him. It’s kind of cruel of him but he also is entirely unaware that he’s doing this.) This is a fun bit of foreshadowing for me personally because this could mean anyone but should the monkey’s paw curl, that sure does describe a certain horrible prince he despises. But after accidentally doing all that to Aymeric, maybe he does deserve to be tormented. Just a little. I’ve been following a sort of narrative path wherein anyone who likes Utushama for being a hero figure can’t actually get with him for good because they’re enabling his bad habits and it’s going to end badly.

Anyway, all this made the Endwalker casting quests very fun because they just kind of josh around lightly and even reference their old fling without it being a whole thing and it feels like the weight of whatever they were doing is off Aymeric now so he’s able to be confident and normal again. If they ever fool around again post-Endwalker, it’s noticeably different because Aymeric has moved past the whole blushing maiden for the hero role. Utushama is admittedly kind of. Strangely sad to see him move past him but by then knows that it was probably for the best. It’s just hard for him to even metaphorically feel like he’s the one being left behind. And Lucia is no longer mad at him but it’s really funny to let him keep thinking she is!

So yeah, his relationship with Aymeric is kind of tangled and convoluted and despite indulging once or twice, he doesn’t actually seem to like talking about it beyond whatever’s professional because he’s just very private. I’ve no idea what the general consensus is on Aymeric and Estinien’s relationship but I imagine it was much more straightforward than this. Utushama inadvertently projects and assumes it was just as complicated based on the way Estinien talks about Aymeric in MSQ tidbits but I think it’s funnier if it was actually relatively tame and Estinien is just being dramatic.
