your body jolts upright as you’re forcibly ripped out of your dream. you can feel your heart pounding wildly in your chest. shivers run down your spine as you blink a few times, desperately willing your eyes to adjust to the darkness quicker. 

in your disorientation, you quickly scan the room for any danger. the fabric xie lian had hung up as a makeshift door flaps quietly in the wind. a few stray offerings sit on the edge of a nearby table. a stream of moonlight shines in through a small hole in the roof, illuminating the small shrine just enough for you to make out xie lian’s worried figure staring at you. 

“y/n?” his voice is quiet, as if you’re a small animal that will bolt at the first sight of danger. xie lian pauses for a second as if to search for the right words before finally settling on, “are you alright?”

“yeah,” you breathe. you run a shaky hand through your hair, taking a shallow breath. “i’m fine.”

xie lian doesn’t believe you. he’s smart enough to recognize the signs of anxiety. he’s known you for long enough to know exactly which nightmares plague your dreams. even the exhaustion of traveling for hours on foot isn’t enough to starve off the horrors that live inside of your mind. 

xie lian turns, reaching over to grab his boots. “why don’t i go get you some water? it’s been a while since you had anything to drink.” 

“wait,” your hand catches xie lian’s wrist before you can stop yourself. disguised by the darkness of the night, a flush rises to both of your cheeks. your grip around his hand loosens, but you don’t pull away completely. “stay?” your voice is barely a whisper; it’s all but swallowed by the quiet of the night. “please.”

xie lian’s gaze lingers on your hand for a second before he looks up into your eyes once again. your touch ignites goosebumps along his skin. since the fall of xianle, he had long since forgotten what it felt like to be touched with care. 

despite his reservations, xie lian curtly nods. “alright,” he murmurs, settling down on the straw mat beside you once again. 

the ground is uncomfortable, but it’s nothing you’re not used to. xie lian lays facing you; even with your eyes closed you can feel him studying each of your features. you can feel the mat move slightly as he shuffles closer. he props his head against his arm like a makeshift pillow.

you tense momentarily when xie lian reaches over, gingerly resting his hand on top of your own. despite the cold night, his skin is warm. his fingers gently trace along the grooves of your knuckles. “try to get some sleep,” he whispers. “i’ll be here when you wake up.”

“HOLY SHIT, MING-XIONG!” Qingxuan yelled jumping up from the couch. “CELINE IS ON THE FUCKING EIFLE TOWER!!!”

“... didn’t you say this would happen hours ago?” Ming Yi replied, shovelling more popcorn into his mouth.

“I was joking then… but this, this…” Qingxuan stood staring at the TV while the Canadian goddess sang her heart out; eyes glazing over with tears as he watched the performance of a lifetime. He never blinked once during the full performance.

When the performance ended, Qingxuan fell back into Ming Yi’s lap, who just sighed as he patted his sobbing boyfriends’s head mumbling “Too cute–”

The Heavens were thriving as usual. The warm summer winds grazing your face as you walk down the heavenly paths. You were lost in your thoughts, not paying attention to the world outside of you.

Then, you heard a voice call your name. You knew the person to whom the voice belonged to. You turned your head back to see him, Shi Qingxuan.

The two of you were good friends, usually spending your time together. After many years of being friends, you started developing feelings for him. Of course, you’ve never admitted these feelings ever, even after years of having them. You thought he would never like you back. He was too perfect to like someone like you.

“Y/n! Wait up!”

Shi Qingxuan ran up to you. You smiled when he stood in front of him. You couldn’t help but blush slightly at that well kept and attractive face of his.

“I’ve been looking for you for days. Where have you been?”

He asked, a hint of worry in his voice.

“I was in the mortal realm. There were a couple things that I was called to do, but nothing to important,”

You answered. Of course, that wasn’t all you did. You spent most of your time there trying to figure out how you’re going to deal with your feelings. They were getting bigger by the day, and you didn’t know if you could take it any longer.

“Oh, well I suppose everything got sorted out, knowing you,”

Shi Qingxuan winked at you, making your cheeks a deep red. Shi Qingxuan noticed this and chuckled, pinching your red cheek.

“Is someone flustered?”

He teased, looking into your eyes. You didn’t reply, still looking for words to say. Shi Qingxuan let go of your cheek.

“Anyway, want to grab something to eat? I wanted to talk to you about something anyway,”

He offered, pointing at a cafe on the other side of the street. You nodded and rushed towards the cafe, eager to hear what he wanted to say.

Eventually, the two of you made it to the cafe. You brought the tea cup up to your lips, taking a small sip of the tea. Shi Qingxuan sat in front of you, looking into your eyes. He was fanning himself with his fan.

“So… what did you want to talk about?”

You asked, putting your tea cup down. Shi Qingxuan closed his fan and put his fan down. He was silent, as if trying to find the right words.

“Do you… have feeling for someone?”

He asked. You were surprised at the words that left his mouth.

“Oh, I, uh, someone, yeah, someone,”

You answered, looking into his eyes. You didn’t know how to tell him that someone was him.

“Really? Who?”

He asked, his tone having genuine wonder. Your cheeks flushed again, butterflies filling your stomach. You bit your lip, having a loss of words. You opened your mouth, but was interrupted.

“Because, I wanted to tell you…”

Shi Qingxuan trailed off. His eyes darted off to look at the floor, but then looked at you again.

“…I like you,”

Those three words left you utterly speechless. The butterflies in your stomach went wild. Your mouth was agape.

“You like… me?”

You asked, confused that he would like you.

“yes, you, only you,”

Shi Qingxuan held both of your hands. Your breath hitched at the touch.

“Don’t think I don’t see how red your cheeks got whenever I’m around,”

He teased you once again.

“and I like you, especially when you’re flustered like that,”

Shi Qingxuan looked into your eyes, chuckling at your red cheeks.

“I-I like you too,”

You studdered, still in shook. There was a moment of silence. It seemed the world around you stopped.

“Good,”

Shi Qingxuan smiled, still holding your hands. Your dreams had finally come true. There was a sense of peace in you now. A peace you never wanted to leave, ever.

Just knowing that Xie Lian and Hua Cheng spend the rest of their eternal lives together just makes me so incredibly happy (I never knew I could feel this much joy just knowing two of my favorite characters are living a happy life.)

I'm just imagining mostly soft, fluffy days - everyday! They wake up to each other everyday! They bathe together everyday! They go to bed with each other being the last thing they see everyday!

They smile, they laugh, maybe they sometimes even tear up from how incredibly happy they are. Their chests are practically bursting everyday from the amount of love they hold for each other.

They truly deserve to rest and be safe and happy forever. To be loved forever. To share that love with one another forever. And they already could understand each other so well (as Hua Cheng tells Xie Lian, "Your Highness, I understand your everything") and what, the novels in the present took place in just the span of a couple of weeks?

Imagine a year. Ten years, a hundred years, eight hundred years. They already have each other's spiritual array passwords, but I don't think they even need a year to just start passing thoughts to one another with just their eyes. They won't even have to look at each other, they'll just immediately understand what the other one means to say.

Guys. I am going feral over Hualian. I can’t even imagine what they will look like after centuries of receiving unconditional love. They'd definitely be codependent as hell haha. They'd also be known as their world's best power couple. Even after just a couple of months or something, there were already stories and legends being written about them.

I love them so much 🥹

MQ who absolutely loves physical affection, especially when he’s sleeping because it helps him relax and feel safe.

FX who hates being touched when he’s sleeping, and gets bitchy when his sleep is disturbed. But when it’s his MQ, hell, he’ll do anything to see him smile. So he gets over himself and pulls MQ into his arms as they’re going to sleep, kisses the top of his head and whispers,

“You’re absolutely perfect Qing’er, I love you.”

And MQ just squeaks as he gets too nervous to reply, so as a response, he just curls up more in FX’s embrace and closes his eyes to try and sleep as FX covers them both up with the blanket. And takes all his bitchiness out on the other gods the following morning in the weekly Wednesday meeting.

Where Blade always wants to be is in your shadow.

Nothing seems real out in the light. You in your entirety is something enigmatic, foreign, something he hasn’t been a witness to in hundreds of years. Your smile and rosy cheeks remind him of a large star that is kissed by a wine-red sunset. Your hands fit so perfectly in his – a puzzle piece he lost so long ago yet found again with the help of fate.

“We’re going to miss it!”

He doesn’t leave his favorite place – somewhere just a foot or so away from your back – as you run and pull him with admittedly weak force. At least compared to a banished warrior like him. One of the palms he loves so dear holds onto a basket full of flowers and food prepared by you two and the other guides him like a puppeteer. 

Blade’s eyes don’t move from the flower crown he placed on your head – its sole purpose is for its beauty to be enhanced by you and you alone.

Your hair moves back and forth in the wind. Little petals and pollen and leaves dance inside your side braid’s pockets. Instead of the scent of blood he is so used to by now, he smells your perfume.

He will make sure his source of light never dies out.

He will be the universe’s forgotten planet if it means you get all the love and glory you deserve.

“It’s so beautiful, isn’t it?”

Blade’s eyes don’t leave your face.

“I always loved sunsets by beaches,” You start, sinking your bare feet into the blanket he laid out for you. You lean in and your breath nearly tickles his shoulder. Your arms caress his waist. You’re warmer than the sun. “Thank you so much for taking me.”

Blade doesn’t answer in words. You’re used to that after dating a man like him for so long – by instinct, you look into his eyes and past your reflection in them. 

He’s as beautiful as he sees you – not that he would ever accept such a fact.

“Here. You should try something… You bought them with your own money after all.” With a nod, you gesture towards the charcuterie board. Most foods you picked out at the store are alien to him. Humanity and their goods evolve all the time when he has not one bit. One catches his attention more than the others.

A tiny baked good in the shape of a sun.

You don’t use your words and neither does he – within just a moment you slip the cookie between his lips.

It melts on his tongue. The texture is much softer than the war rations he remembers from long ago. The flavor is so sweet and tastes nothing like anything he has had before. You smile and giggle. Blade wishes he could have recorded such a sound on his phone – and wishes he knew how to do so in the first place. If he asks nicely, he’s certain one of the other Stellaron Hunters would teach him.

“It’s good,” He answers after a while, resting his chin above your head. “Thank you.”

Blade will continue to love you like he should have loved the sun.

there’s countless amounts of time fighting alongside eachother, dealing with one another’s hardships, hanging out at paradise manor, and even just gazing upon beautiful stars.
