a fibercrafts discord server: funky fibercrafts!
i know fibercrafts should technically be written fibrecrafts but that makes no sense
funky fibercrafts is a server about any and all textile crafts! we've got yarn crafts, we've got fabric crafts, we've got an "other" category, whatever your heart desires! (these categories all have more specific channels as well for the common crafts!)
if you need help we've got helper roles you can ping, as well as a forum channel especially for asking for help (and also for giving tips without a question being asked), which is neat because it allows specific questions to get a lot of attention while also leaving the craft channels open for casual chatting!
we've also got a verification system to keep everyone safe, so if you join the server and see nought but one channel, that's how things should be, your discord isn't broken, just follow the instructions and you'll be verified!
besides those helper roles there's also a bunch of other roles, like pronoun roles, age range roles, dm boundary roles and ofc craft interest roles
link below the cut in case it breaks :)

Sewed a circle skirt for the first time! (first picture also shows a purse I crocheted.) I've made a few quilts, but no garment making! I used quilting cotton because I read it was appropriate for a circle skirt, and I used an elastic waist band because it seemed more forgiving while measuring out the pattern. Overall went well, but I definitely discovered a few aspects I should improve upon for next time! Maybe next time I'll even experiment with pockets! Either way, this will definitely be a repeat craft!

This is the longest shot I'll ever take, but does anybody happen to have a picture of the cross-stitch pattern that was used here? I'll have to do some restoration work soon, and I'm missing a lot of details.
I know the pattern was sold at Michael's in 1997, and it depicts a plush white bunny and plush pink bear in a hot air balloon over a field of toys and flowers, surrounded by a border of hearts.
Most of the stitches in mine have been lost to time, to the point where I can't tell what the bunny's face or most of the balloon once looked like, but I'm hoping I'll be able to get a better reference from a picture of the original pattern.
Any help is appreciated!

New piece! Am calling her “Skör” (fragile in Swedish).
Assembled from strips of lace, a doily, and some fiddly needle lace and crochet for the teeth. Starched with diluted wood glue.
Perfect in time for Halloween!

first sleeves of this sweater is nearly done which means it's cuff time
i want to do it in double stockinette, which is a lovely stitch where both sides are both. stockinette . it's also a bit thicker than regular stockinette
because you only knit half the stitches every row it can get rather tight, knitting wise
so i wasn't thinking something was off when i wass hearing my knitting creak and croak with every row
anyways, made this swatch, here's both sides
i measured the gauge, did some Maths, some rather easy maths because my wrist circumference is 15 cm (but i wanted it to be Slightly larger). so i cast on 50 stitches for a size of a little over 15.5 cm
and i was having a great time! it was much less of a struggle to knit, despite using the same yarn and same needles!
6 rows in, it was 18 cm.
and there were some.. issues
so . to the discord i went. ((link in pinned post #promotion)) and apparently it could pull itself together a bit more around row 8-10. but ALSO with my tension having gone looser i could also try to use a smaller needle size!
i decided to try both . i cast on a swatch on my pretty pretty knitpro symfonie needles :)
this is what that looks like now:
looking good apart from what's going on on the left there! also i've continued with the 50 stitch long boi and it's looking slightly better at 8 rows.
so i'm going to give this another two rows but probably frog it! and then cast on the right amount in hot pink on my 4mm wooden needles

every time someone says ‘oh, you knit? do you like it?’ i have the marrow-deep urge to tenderly take their face in my hands and press my lips to their eyelids and telepathically transmit the full overwhelming awareness that i carry just beneath my skin every moment of every day of how important fiber crafts and textiles are and historically have been to humanity. every stitch i work is a thousand billion stitches that have already been worked and will be worked in the future, from the farthest reaches of prehistory until time immemorial. every spindle i spin is spun with the same flick of uncountable fingers from ages past, all united across history in the deceptively simple movement that has shaped history, and art, is the context within which every single person on earth has ever lived their life and lives their lives still. everything from our phones to our homes is given shape and form by the overlooked but utterly important textile arts.
‘of fucking course i like knitting, you jackass,’ i say gently. ‘i wouldn’t do it otherwise.’
