San Marcos vs. Texas: Marijuana Ordinance Update
The Fifteenth Court of Appeals is poised to decide a high-profile case that could redefine the relationship between state law and local governance in Texas. At the heart of State of Texas v. City of San Marcos is a 2022 voter-approved ordinance that prohibits San Marcos police officers from issuing citations or making arrests for misdemeanor marijuana possession, except in limited…

Missouri politics is always a caricature but as we roll up to election day two particular standouts are:
There is a ballot measure to raise the number of allowed casinos so corporations can build one at the Lake of the Ozarks. ~*Coincidentally*~ the Osage nation (former residents of the area) have been trying to build a casino there. This is not something most people are aware but jfc it's blatant.
Our attorney general tried to sue about abortion pills, got tossed out for having absolutely no standing, and so tried again claiming that the state has standing due to lost federal funding caused by fewer teen pregnancies. I am not making this shit up.

A Brief Update
Earlier today I wrote about Kate Cox and her struggle to obtain an abortion despite the fact that the fetus she carries is not viable and her very life is in danger.  I wrote that late last night, and when I woke this morning, it was to this headline in the New York Times … Texas Supreme Court Temporarily Halts Court-Approved Abortion   The court, responding to an appeal from Attorney General Ken…

A Texas judge last month ordered Dr. Margaret Carpenter, who practices north of New York City, to pay the penalty for allegedly breaking that state’s law by prescribing abortion medication via telemedicine. The Texas attorney general’s office followed up last week by asking a New York court to enforce the default civil judgment, which is $113,000 with attorney and filing fees. The acting Ulster County clerk refused. “In accordance with the New York State Shield Law, I have refused this filing and will refuse any similar filings that may come to our office. Since this decision is likely to result in further litigation, I must refrain from discussing specific details about the situation,” Acting Clerk Taylor Bruck said in a prepared statement.
This is what we're talking about. This is the resistance someone can do in their everyday job. Judgement gets passed down and you're just supposed to dot the i's and cross the t's? Don't. Just refuse.
Now, I know an acting county clerk isn't just anyone - this man had a very unique opportunity to do some very serious blockading in his everyday job - but that's kind of the point! Nobody's just anyone. You never know when you'll have an opportunity.

A district court judge on Friday awarded more than $6 million combined to four whistleblowers in their lawsuit against Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton who were fired shortly after they reported him to the FBI.
“By a preponderance of the evidence,” Travis County Judge Catherine Mauzy says in her judgment, the plaintiffs proved liability, damages and attorney’s fees in their complaint against the attorney general’s office.

Wonder Who They Targeted? Huge Corruption Uncovered In ActBlue Donations for Texas
That must be how they financed the endless, excessive, and false campaign ad blitz against Ted Cruz. View Source: Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton sent a Petition for Rulemaking to the Federal Election Commission (“FEC”) detailing how suspicious actors appear to be using ActBlue’s political fundraising platform to make a large number of straw political donations. In December 2023, Attorney…

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr ...
When you have a nation where there are more guns than people, what could possibly go wrong, eh?  And then, when you encourage people to take their guns to a huge event where there are lots of families with children, and lots of beer being passed around … again, what could possibly go wrong?  I’ll let our friend Nan tell you of this latest abomination happening down in Texas, but suffice it to say…

I found this on NewsBreak: How to Spot and Report Price Gouging
I found this on NewsBreak: How to Spot and Report Price Gouging
Tumblr media
Price gouging is illegal, and the Office of the Attorney General has authority to prosecute any business that engages in price gouging after a disaster has been declared by the governor or president. The attorney general has issued stern warnings about price gouging to businesses in times of disaster, but you should still be on your guard.
§17.46(b) of the Texas Deceptive Trade Practices-Consumer Protection Act provides that it is a false, misleading or deceptive act or practice to take advantage of a disaster declared by the Governor under Chapter 418, Government Code, or the President by:
•Selling or leasing fuel, food, medicine, lodging, building materials, construction tools, or another necessity at an exorbitant or excessive price;
OR
•Demanding an exorbitant or excessive price in connection with the sale or lease of fuel, food, medicine, lodging, building materials, construction tools, or another necessity.
Please note that high prices alone do not mean that price gouging has taken place, as businesses are generally allowed to determine the prices for their products. However, if a disaster has been declared by the Governor of Texas or the President, and businesses raise the price of their products to exorbitant or excessive rates to take advantage of the disaster declaration, then it is quite likely that price gouging is taking place, and you should file a complaint with our office concerning the incident.
File a Consumer Complaint with our office to report a suspected price gouging incident.
