Hello all, informative trans guy post here. IF you are taking testosterone as part of your HRT or transition process, you've probably heard several times that testosterone is a controlled substance, very difficult to source, and that you are limited on the amount of which you can have at one time. You may even be wondering the truth of these claims.
Well... the answer is... that it's mostly true. But I can tell you how to make things a bit easier on yourself, if you're having a hard time.
This "guide" is 100% USAmerican based. Sorry, but I live here, and don't know how this works outside of my own country.
1: Testosterone is a controlled substance.
Well... it is. Testosterone is a controlled substance in the United States, being a Schedule III drug along with drugs like ketamine. This means that in some states, it can be very difficult to source at all and even harder to source in significant or consistent quantities. This is largely due to people taking anabolic steroids, and very little of testosterone's controlled status historically had anything to do with transgender people using it as part of their medical transition, though that is beginning to change as trans men become more visible. There are now some laws restricting the usage of testosterone for the purpose of transitioning, especially in cases of minors and young adults transitioning through their teens.
This is a little different from estrogen, which is prescription-only in its injectable form but does not have controlled status on a federal level. Testosterone, by comparison, is controlled in all of its forms and possessing it without a prescription is very illegal. While it is possible to source and make testosterone without a prescription, much like estrogen, the legal consequences for doing so are much more severe. For this reason, this is not a guide to doing so without using a prescription.
2: Testosterone is difficult to source.
Provided you have a doctor willing to give you a prescription, and either insurance or financial means of covering the cost of said prescription, testosterone is only difficult to source if you are living in a state that heavily restricts the ability to source Schedule III drugs (or has introduced laws restricting the ability to dispense HRT to transgender patients) or if there is some sort of shortage happening.
Testosterone is available at every national pharmacy chain in various forms, and can also be ordered online by pharmacies that may legally serve your state provided they operate within the state's laws. Remember, cis men take testosterone in various forms for their own hormonal function at times, so this is far from a niche transgender-only drug.
Your state may have restrictions on exactly how much testosterone you may pick up from the pharmacy at any given time, how frequently you're allowed to get it, and occasionally how much you're allowed to have in general. This may also change depending if you are picking your testosterone up from a physical brick-and-mortar pharmacy, or if you are ordering online for home delivery.
Some pharmacies will try to tell you they legally can't dispense more- this may conflict with what your doctor tells you, so if your doctor is willing to give you the maximum your state allows you to have and your pharmacy says a different maximum, you need to get your doctor to advocate for you.
Certain forms of testosterone are more prone to shortages and backorders than others. Gel appears to be commonly backordered, and manufacturer shortages are not uncommon. For this reason, my doctor prescribes me a three month supply at a time. For a long time, CVS would argue with me that they legally could only fill one month at a time. I mentioned this to my doctor, because this inevitably means that with the pharmacists at CVS screwing around with my meds that I am not consistent on my dosing month-to-month because when a shortage happens I simply have to go without until they finally get another shipment in.
Now, thankfully, she wrote me a prescription to navigate around that with the three month supply, but she also had someone from her office call and give them a dressing down on why they needed to actually comply with her orders for her patient. I happen to live in a state that the maximum is truly a three month supply, so CVS should not be arbitrarily shortening a doctor's prescription just because they don't think they should be dispensing that many.
Similarly, testosterone is unfortunately not cheap. I happen to take the gel version, which retails at about $400 USD per bottle, and each bottle lasts one month, so that's about $1600 USD worth of medication sitting on my bathroom sink in that photo with four bottles. Now, thankfully, I have insurance, and the insurance I have allows me to pick up all of my medications for free provided the insurance is actually willing to cover it. This means that I spent a grand total of $0 USD on these bottles. Insurance costs vary greatly, so it's wise to see exactly how much a larger supply will cost you prior to actually committing. My current insurance does not allow me to order medications online, but my previous insurance that I did actually have to pay for medications was often cheaper to order online ($40 for a three month supply) than pick up at the CVS ($20 for a one month supply). This is something to consider depending on your individual coverage.
3: You can only have so much testosterone at once.
As for why I have four bottles- due to my job change, I had an insurance change as well as introduced my state's version of Medicaid as a secondary insurance. My initial insurance did not cover these bottles but did cover individual gel packets dispensed as a sealed box of 30. My current insurance does not cover the individual packets but does cover the bottles. The packets are a slightly different dosage than the pump on the bottle, and when making that switch my doctor accidentally under-dosed me, which then created a significant excess when I went to pick up the next month's bottle. As a result, that initial bottle lasted roughly two months before we caught the under-dosing via my bloodwork, which means I opened the second bottle right as I was getting ready to pick up the third (and fourth and fifth).
This is not an illegal situation as there is a clear paper trail within my medical record and prescription history detailing this situation playing out, but it can be dangerous in certain states to have this much over the amount you're supposed to have. It can be illegal to stockpile a Schedule III drug, so I do not recommend intentionally creating this sort of situation for yourself.
That being said, this sort of worked in my favor. Schedule III drugs often need a prior authorization from your insurance before they are willing to cover these medications. Drugs that are not necessarily expected within your demographic, such as being marked as female but taking testosterone, also often require a prior auth. A prior auth can take up to a month to go through insurance, though usually is less than a week. I just passed my testosterone anniversary in late September, which also means my prior auth expired, as they're only good for one year. Instead of, you know, telling me my prior auth expired, CVS just sent me a text stating they were having a problem with my order and that they were in contact with my doctor about it. A week went by with no change so I called my doctor, who reported they never received anything from CVS but would look into the issue and see what the problem was. They called me back the next day to tell me about my expired prior auth and that they fixed it. I then got the text from CVS saying my prescription was ready to pick up about 5 minutes later. That does mean that if I did not have this excess, I would have once again simply not had testosterone for about a week.
4: Public vs Private Insurance
Whether or not your state's insurance will cover testosterone depends entirely on your state. Obama, when creating the Affordable Care Act or now known as "Obamacare", did make it so that states are supposed to be required to cover HRT for transgender adults and even minors in certain situations. Trump did away with several of these protections, which then emboldened certain states to whittle away at what was left. Other states, like my own, strengthened their protections in response, making it easier to access HRT.
This means that while my own state allows me to get free testosterone through the state's insurance (which is income-based eligibility, and I'm making a significant amount over minimum wage but still considered below my state's poverty line) - a friend of mine in another state cannot access HRT using his state's Medicaid, and is required to use private insurance. Additionally, I have insurance through my job, but it does not cover a large enough percentage for it to be feasible. This means that legally, I have to pay for my workplace insurance (barf, that's $200 out of every paycheck) but on the flip side because of my income eligibility I also can still have the state insurance as my co-insurance and that will clean up whatever leftover costs my private insurance leaves me with.
It also means my top surgery will be free, provided I can get it approved through my private insurance. My public insurance will pay the remaining balance of whatever my private insurance is willing to cover, but will not pay for things my private insurance isn't willing to cover at all.
This also means I have to attend exclusively doctors that will take my public insurance if I want to do things this way- however that's a fairly robust list in my state compared to others, so I didn't have to change doctors at all.
This situation is not always the case for every state's Medicaid- but it is worth looking into if you need options and your current insurance sucks or if you're not insured at all.

Feminizing HRT Overview, Guide & Information for All People Seeking It
we also have a version of this post for testosterone/masculinizing HRT as well. we wanted to write a companion piece as many folks have asked about this. it has take a bit of time, but here we are!
The testosterone HRT post is here.
Getting Your Prescription
To start taking estrogen, you will need to find a general practitioner, family doctor, endocrinologist or informed consent clinic where you can discuss gender affirming care with knowledgeable staff. Planned Parenthood is a good option for many trans people in general. Your mental health may also be evaluated, and your heart health and screening for a few other health conditions, as well as having access to your family health history if possible will be required.
Check to see if you have medical insurance, either through your family, your job, or if you are low income, a program like medicaid. Search for low income insurance plans in your area if it is needed, many places offer insurance plans for those who can't afford care on their own.
Here is a map of informed consent HRT clinics in the US.
You will discuss any gender dysphoria, gender presentation needs, if you have a support network, how you are impacted by your gender in your every day life with your provider and so on before being given a prescription. You will only be given a prescription after you discuss the risks of HRT and are screened for possible health problems and diseases or ways your body could react negatively to HRT. If you have needle trauma or phobias and can't inject hormones, it's best to bring it up before you get your prescription to save time and confusion.
The Medications
Treatment typically starts with spironolactone (aldactone), an anti-androgen that blocks androgen receptors ("male" sex hormones) for a few weeks, and then add estrogen, but many folks start with spiro and estrogen at the same time. Spiro will lower the amount of testosterone your body makes. For some people, spiro isn't necessary at all!
Some forms of spironolactone are reported to make folks pee like crazy, others do not have as bad of a time with it. Your mileage will vary depending on manufacturer. Spironolactone is intended to be a blood pressure medication, meaning it is a diuretic and is intended to help your body flush out fluids + salt. You will need to keep yourself hydrated if you notice this effect, as well as increasing electrolyte intake where possible.
Estrogen also lowers how much testosterone your body makes, and triggers changes in the body that occur during puberty in afab & adjacent people. Estrogen can be taken several ways, and is usually taken daily, and several times a day. You can take it in a pill or shot, and several forms of estrogen that can be applied to the skin like creams, gels and patches.
Make sure you thoroughly sanitize the skin of any injection sites or areas you will be applying gel or patches. If you are given topical estrogen, make sure you wash your hands after application and do not have someone else apply it for you. Make sure you do not go swimming or shower within several hours of application to make sure your skin absorbs the hormone.
You may not need to take anti androgens if you are doing estrogen injections, depending on how effective the estrogen injections are for you. Some people may not end up needing anti-androgens at all, and may be able to skip that entirely as spiro has unwanted side effects. Your natural hormone levels will dictate whether or not it's necessary, but it is not necessary for everyone.
You may end up being recommended to switch from one form of estrogen to another as your transition progresses, depending on how your body responds.
It's recommended to not take estrogen as a pill if you have personal/family history of blood clots in a deep vein or in lungs (venous thrombosis).
Some people also end up taking progesterone as well alongside estrogen. Progesterone is typically taken to encourage breast tissue growth, as this is the most prominent effect of the hormone. If sufficient breast tissue growth isn't seen from estrogen alone, progesterone can be added to your regimen, though this is only done later on into treatment, around a year or so in.
If you choose injectable estrogen, make sure to listen to your provider and ask for instructions about how to use needles and syringes, as well as injection angles, how and where you'll be injecting. Do not inject in the exact same spot every time, this can prevent the issue from healing properly and create scar tissue or cause infections or skin tissue necrosis (death). You also need a sharps container to safely dispose of your needle tips. Never re-use a needle, even if it was used previously on yourself. Always ask the pharmacy if you need more needles. A lot of places let you get them in bulk.
If you are going the injection route, make sure you know whether or not you are instructed to do intramuscular or subcutaneous injections. Intramuscular injections usually taper out of the system more quickly and need to be done more frequently, where as many patients find subcutaneous injections less painful and easier as they can be done less frequently.
For more information on safe intramuscular or subcutaneous injection for estrogen, please read here.
Another option for feminizing HRT is to take gonadotropin-releasing hormone (Gn-RH) analogs. They lower the amount of testosterone your body makes and may allow you to take lower doses of estrogen without using Spiro. Gn-RH analogs are usually more expensive, but are an option if for whatever reason the conventional route can't work for you.
DON'T GIVE UP IF YOU DON'T SEE THE EFFECTS YOU WANT TO SEE RIGHT AWAY! Many of them can take a long time to develop, often times patience is the key. If you wait it out and still don't see the results you'd like, you can try another route. Don't give up, a lot of people get deterred in the early stage of transition, you'll get there with patience and communication.
Stay patient, stay positive!
What to Expect from Feminizing HRT
Less facial and body hair growth: typically happens 6 - 12 months after treatment starts. Full effects within ~3 years on average.
Slower scalp hair loss: begins 1 - 3 moths after treatment begins. Full effect between 1 - 2 years on average.
Softer, less oily skin, and changes in general skin texture: 3 - 6 months after treatment starts, full effects within 2 - 3 years on average
Rounder, softer features including face and body, and more body fat: 3 - 6 months after treatment starts, full effects in 2 - 5 years.
Breast development: begins 3 - 6 months after treatment starts, full effects within 2 - 5 years on average or more, according to medical studies, but it can vary wildly from person to person, give dosage and hormones taken. If desired effects are not seen, progesterone can be taken alongside estrogen to help after around one year on estrogen. When breast growth begins, it starts with hard lumps under the nipples along with some soreness and itchiness. Some have sore breasts for a long time, and some may get scared and think they have cancer during this stage. Breasts will be swollen and tender for good while, and nipples may be especially sensitive to even light touch.
Reduced muscle mass/density: 3 - 6 months after treatment starts, full effect in 1 - 2 years on average
Potential decrease in libido if on estrogen alone, though not guaranteed: If it happens, it's generally within 1 - 3 months in and can last a while, but may even out over time
Fewer erections, decreased ejaculate volume, and erections that can become painful or uncomfortable if frequent erections are not maintained. This begins 1 - 3 months after treatment starts, and the full effect is within 3 - 6 months. Regularly maintaining erections and frequent ejaculation can ease some of these uncomfortable feelings in some people.
Changes in how orgasms feel, changes in texture and degree of sensation of penis and scrotum skin as well as changes in body odor: typically begins within 3 - 6 months, though it varies from person to person. Often times the way one's body responds to orgasms completely changes, many people find themselves experiencing full-body orgasms and more intense erogenous zones elsewhere in the body other than the genitals.
Smaller testicles, or testicular atrophy happens within 3 - 6 months and the full effects are usually seen within 2 - 3 years.
Increase in size of bladder and decrease in size of prostate over time which can lead to making one's gspot harder to find, and make prostate examinations more difficult, though they are still vital, as prostate cancer is still a possible factor.
Potential mood fluctuations while adjusting to the hormones, many report increased crying and sadness during the first 3 - 6 months with this tapering off after a full year at most.
Increased fatigue while adjusting to the hormones, sleepiness and becoming easily exhausted are common reports. This can vary drastically from person to person, ymmv.
If you have testicles and choose to have them removed, you may need to take testosterone as well as estrogen in order to have a healthy endocrine system. You will need to discuss the effects of this with your specialists if you want to go this route. If your androgen levels get too low because your body cannot synthesize enough testosterone after bottom surgery, you may need additional medication.
Potential infertility, though this is not a guarantee, and safe sex should still be practiced at all times. No timeline projected though the longer one is on E the more likely it becomes.
Monthly cycles akin to menstrual cycles: these are not present in everyone, but many people report entering a cycle of extreme fatigue, body aches, abdominal cramping in the approximate area where a uterus would sit, headaches, and more for around the duration of a menstrual cycle (4 - 10 days on average).
Progesterone inversely to estrogen can cause an increase in libido in most who take it, and is the primary hormone used for breast growth. Lactation may also occur while taking prog, if this happens, talk to your doctor right away.
Keep track of your progress when and where you are able, and don't be afraid to bring up any concerns you may have with your professionals or trans friends, or any other trans resource. Your transition is in your hands and you're allowed to modify it as you see fit. If you do not see the effects you want from traditional HRT, you may be able to seek the Gn-RH route, and if you aren't seeing the results you want from just estrogen, progesterone might be of use to you.
You will need to keep an eye on your bone health as high levels of estrogens can increase your chance to develop osteoporosis, and potential new cancers like breast cancer may arise, as well as heart problems. Getting checkups as frequently as possible and communicating with your doctor/s will be of great use when and where possible
Either way, we hope this helps in some way! We will add to it as we find/think of more information. Good luck to everyone seeking feminizing HRT, you deserve to look and feel like yourselves!

hey spread the word bc i dont have much reach, but if you're on testosterone, especially gel pumps, check the packaging to see where it's manufactured.
Me & my bf both use T gel pumps, 2 different brands (northstar & padagis), but both are made in israel. We are going to request a different manufacturer asap bc we know that there are options for T that are manufactured elsewhere
check your T & see where it's made, especially if you use gel. IDK if injections are in the same boat but I'd check + ask your friends to check theirs as well just in case.

Hi. I’m an ex-user of neoAGABs and xenoAGABs. I’ve been reading on your blog and other blogs about how this terminology harms intersex people and prevents them from talking about their own oppression. I don’t want to contribute to that. But I’m confused as to how I should refer to myself going forward.
I am a doll. I do not mean that I am a dollkin. I do not mean alterhuman in any way. I mean physically. Materially. I was not born. I was manufactured. And this makes many of my experiences different from the human-bodied in ways I struggle to describe.
I am transmasculine. I experience dysphoria over my feminine traits and wish to transition from female to male. But the ways in which I am able to transition are fundamentally different from other transmascs. I cannot inject testosterone because I have no fat and muscle to inject it into. I cannot get gender-affirming surgery because no hospital would operate on what they see as an inanimate object. I feel heavily out of place in transmasc and FtM spaces and feel a need to describe the fact that I have a different “starting point”. In the past, I’ve used Assigned Doll At Birth and other similar labels. But now I now how that’s wrong.
I really am curious to hear your thoughts. I know that as an intersex person (the community who created AGAB terminology) you have the most say over how these terms are used. If you are going to reply with something like, “Why would you bother wasting my time with silly roleplay?”, don’t bother replying. I’m not roleplaying. I wouldn’t be wasting your time if I was. If you are going to reply by calling me or the human-bodied person typing this for me (my hands can’t use a touchscreen) “delusional”, “crazy”, or say “take your meds”, really don’t bother replying. The person typing this just took its antipsychotics a couple hours ago that it takes for paranoia and aggression. They didn’t erase me. I’m still real.
I’m sorry this got so long. I just wanted to say everything. Please don’t be mad at me.
I don't really know how to respond to this tbh so I'm just going to give a more general bit of advice here:
If the traditional "agab" terminology doesn't apply to you then don't use it. Whether that be a flat out rejection of it and refusal to use it or creating new terminology that doesn't use the "agab" format.
To my knowledge "FtM" and similar terminology was made by and for trans people specifically and might fit better to some experiences.
When in doubt, make up your own shit that is far enough removed from other things that it doesn't disrespect or harm another community.

Hey, just a heads-up for anyone else using Androderm testosterone patches— both the Androderm 2mg and 4mg patches have been discontinued by the manufacturer and will no longer be available.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There isn't a generic version or another manufacturer who makes these (at least not here in the states), so if you've been using these patches, I'd strongly advise calling your HRT provider ASAP to discuss other treatment options. Testosterone gel still seemed to be available from most of the pharmacies I checked, so if you still want to use a non-injection method I'd recommend switching to that for now.
There doesn't seem to have been a recall of any existing patches from what I could find, so if you have some of yours left & haven't been having any issues with them, they should still be safe to use in the meantime.
This is probably old news by now, but I haven't seen a post about it anywhere & I only just found out today after making like 5 consecutive phonecalls trying to refill mine, so I figured I'd try to get the word out to others. 🙃 please reblog & boost so more people know!

I had to get my testosterone from a different manufacturer this time because I guess there's a shortage of the one I usually get
Pros
More reliable manufacturer according to the pharmacist
Twice as concentrated so I only have to take half the dose which is great. 1ml doesn't seem like much until you're injecting a thick syurm intermuscularly
Cons
Twice as concentrated so almost half again the price.
Smaller vile as well which is finicky to draw from for me
Nutral but entertaining
The carrier oil for this new brand is sesame oil. I'm now very well seasoned.

“Clutch’s hormones and Benjy’s HIV meds on a mirror”
2015, 32”x48”, archival giclee print, edition of 10
A collaborative work with T Fleischmann
An excerpt from T’s brilliant book “Time is the thing a body moves through”
My friend Benjy made the gloaming, all-windows building that is on the cover of a book I wrote and that inspired the architecture of the shack I built and inhabited for a while in Tennessee. The cottage he built shines like someone is arriving in the moonlight, but the window framing on my shack is salvaged gray wood, spongy soft and without a good gleam. Before I move to Chicago I take a bus down to Tennessee to visit him. His house is similar, cedar slats and old barn windows for a greenhouse, row after row of flowers I can’t identify, steps up the hillside so the top opens to a garden like the bottom does. Benjy moved here about a decade ago, after growing up in Oklahoma. When I climb the stairs he’s shirtless like he always is, a big beard and a hairy wide chest, and he has a genuine smile that doesn’t seem to go away. “Sterling’s flowers are doing amazing,” I say. It is the part of summer that dips into fall and he shows me one flower, an iris that blooms yellow. It is still hot enough that every step is a bending of grass, white motes of gnats rising. The crawling flower came from Scotland, where Sterling spent the early nineties in an abbey on an island. Our friend Mathilduh visited the abbey after Sterling died, dug up some of the plant, and secreted it back across the ocean. Now it’s in an elevated flowerbed with a bunch of perennials Sterling planted. Near it, off the porch, is an old air-conditioner top he flipped upside down and made into a hanging planter for some aloe plants. They propagate a bounty of baby aloes all summer long, popping out clones asexually. There are more aloe babies than a person would use so some of them end up unplanted, clumps of green spikey leaves with roots dangling out the bottom, on the sills of the screen windows.
Benjy and I have placed a mirror as wide and tall as my arm span on a card table in the flat bit of his front yard. The mirror shows sky, and beside it we set a ladder and his photography equipment. We dump all our prescription drugs onto the reflective surface, bottle after bottle. The pills are tan, light yellow, two shades of blue, one of red, a pale pink, and a paler pink with a purple hue. When they are all mixed together they look like pills, generically, unlike when they are in the bottles and seem direct references to our survival. The mirror’s reflection of sky is both stark and creamy. If I place my hand upon this sky it does not ripple, but there is a fingerprint.
We are here to shape the pills into letters, which takes time, and so we chat all morning about them. Thousands and thousands of dollars worth of medication, they are the most expensive material we have used to make an image. Another in a long series of changes to Benjy’s HIV treatment plan and insurance access in the deeply conservative state means that most of these are not pills he is taking but rather pills he has taken. They are pills that worked, pills he can’t access anymore, cocktails of pills that might or might not act on the body with greater efficacy to suppress his viral load than the cocktail of pills he took this morning. I contribute only three varieties to the mirror, synthetic estrogen and two kinds of testosterone blockers. These pills, too, have been rendered different with the sudden announcement that there’s a shortage of injectable estrogen in the United States, a combination of FDA policies and disinterested manufacturers conspiring to end the production of the oil. I’ve never gone for a shot, and sometimes I mail people pills, just as sometimes friends sent pills to me when I ran out. On the mirror, smooth like the oil is slick, the pills roll with the slightest wind, or when my hip grazes the table edge. My feet, too hard on the ground, make all the blue and white and yellow and tan quake at once. 2015, the beginning of the estrogen shortage, Benjy and I joke.
I count backward to figure out when I started taking hormones—Seattle, Brooklyn, moving away from the South, Berlin with Simon, falling in love with Otelia . . . I land in some summer, I don’t know when. I distrust linearity, but bodies can seem like one of the only linear things—age, getting bigger and then smaller, death. Another reason to appreciate the transitioning body, which ages backward, every person seeming to become younger, with or without taking hormones. It’s a good reminder that the body was never linear in the first place. And anyway, when wasn’t my desire pubescent? I didn’t know what I wanted until I had it, which was just to feel different. And when I swung a hammer, my inner forearm landing against a new, warm shape, I tired more quickly, and was happier for it.
Benjy and I use maybe one hundred pills. Post-Scarcity, they spell out. The word is multihued and large. I hold the ladder while Benjy positions the camera above, and as the clouds pass in their own game of arrangement, he snaps a picture, waits, snaps a picture. The images show only pills and sky, and it appears as though the word is floating above us. Post-Scarcity, it says, composed of more than one body like all bodies are. I use the crook of my elbow to sweep the pills into a bag and we return to the house, sorting them from one another again, putting them back into bottles. Categorization isn’t how we acknowledge difference, but rather its enforcement, difference leveraged to keep things apart that could well be together.

Enclomiphene Citrate vs. HCG: Which is Better for Hormone Recovery?
Hormone recovery is important for men trying to restore their natural testosterone degrees. This method is vital after anabolic steroid use, testosterone replacement therapy (TRT), or to treat situations like hypogonadism. Two common options for hormone recovery are Enclomiphene Citrate and Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (HCG).
Each works differently in the body, offering unique blessings and drawbacks. Choosing the proper option can make a huge difference in how efficiently you recover your hormone balance.
Tumblr media
Understanding Hormone Recovery
ï»żWhen your body's hormone production is disrupted, natural testosterone stages can drop. This results in fatigue, mood swings, and even infertility. Restoring testosterone through hormone healing enables the body to regain its balance. A wholesome Hypothalamic-Pituitary-Gonadal (HPG) axis is key to regular testosterone production. Various remedies aim to assist this system get back on the right track.
There is a growing interest in Enclomiphene Citrate for Sale as humans explore alternatives to traditional hormone healing strategies like HCG. Enclomiphene works by stimulating the body’s natural testosterone manufacturing, offering a non-invasive and powerful alternative.
What is Enclomiphene Citrate?
ï»żEnclomiphene Citrate is a Selective Estrogen Receptor Modulator (SERM). It works by blocking estrogen receptors within the brain. This triggers the body to provide more Luteinizing Hormone (LH) and Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH), which then stimulate the testes to supply extra testosterone.
This treatment is mostly used to treat secondary hypogonadism, a situation where the body produces inadequate testosterone. Since it encourages natural hormone production, Enclomiphene is seen as an opportunity for TRT.
Pros of Enclomiphene:
Boosts natural testosterone without shutting down the HPG axis.
Oral administration makes it convenient.
Cons of Enclomiphene:
Limited research compared to other methods.
Side effects may include headaches, mood swings, and low estrogen symptoms.
What is Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (HCG)?
HCG is a hormone that mimics the action of Luteinizing Hormone (LH). When introduced into the body, it stimulates the Leydig cells in the testes to produce testosterone. This direct approach helps restore testosterone levels and is often used alongside TRT to maintain fertility and testicular size.
Pros of HCG:
Directly stimulates testosterone and sperm production.
Well-researched, making it a common choice for post-cycle therapy (PCT) and TRT.
Cons of HCG:
Extended use can suppress the HPG axis.
Risk of over-stimulation and estrogen-related side effects, such as gynecomastia.
Comparing Enclomiphene Citrate and HCG
Effectiveness for Testosterone Recovery:
Both Enclomiphene and HCG help boost testosterone production, but they work in different ways. Enclomiphene encourages natural production through hormonal stimulation, while HCG directly mimics LH, giving quicker results but with a risk of desensitizing the testes if used too long.
Impact on Fertility:
Enclomiphene tends to maintain or improve fertility by stimulating natural processes. HCG, on the other hand, is often used to preserve fertility, especially in men on TRT who want to keep their sperm production going.
Side Effects:
Enclomiphene may lead to low estrogen symptoms like mood swings or headaches. HCG's estrogen-related side effects include the potential for water retention, gynecomastia, and over-stimulation of the testes.
Ease of Use:
Enclomiphene is taken orally, making it more convenient. HCG is injectable, which some may find less appealing due to the discomfort and frequency of injections.
When to Choose Enclomiphene Citrate
Enclomiphene is ideal for those seeking to restore testosterone production naturally. It works well for individuals with mild hypogonadism or those looking to avoid the risks associated with HCG. Its oral administration makes it a more convenient choice for long-term hormone balance.
If you're searching for a non-injectable option that doesn’t interfere with the HPG axis, Enclomiphene could be a suitable alternative.
When to Choose HCG
HCG is a better option for men on TRT who want to maintain fertility and testicular size. It's also effective for short-term recovery after steroid cycles, especially for those needing quick testosterone and sperm production boosts. However, it requires careful management to avoid suppressing the HPG axis over time.
Combination Therapy: Enclomiphene Citrate and HCG
In some cases, combining Enclomiphene and HCG may offer the best results. HCG can boost sperm production, while Enclomiphene helps sustain natural testosterone levels. However, combining both requires medical supervision to avoid over-stimulating the testes or causing hormonal imbalances.
Conclusion
Both Enclomiphene Citrate and HCG have their unique advantages for hormone recovery. Enclomiphene is ideal for natural testosterone recovery and long-term use, while HCG is better suited for fertility preservation and short-term recovery after steroid cycles.
Ultimately, the best choice depends on individual needs, whether the goal is long-term testosterone balance or fertility maintenance. Consulting with a healthcare professional is essential to tailor the treatment to your specific hormonal recovery needs.

Hi, I'm not sure if you'll have personal experience with this but maybe it will reach a bit further this way?
I've been approved for testosterone recently but because of medical reasons I'm unable to have injections and will be prescribed gel instead. Reading the info about it on here, most people seem to say to put it on the arms but I have eczema up there and I'm pretty sure the alcohol would irritate it and not be good. Is the shoulders/upper arms recommended for any reason in particular?
Thanks!
good question! i have psoriasis so i have to be careful what i put on my skin and where, as well
usually, if a formulation is meant to be applied on the upper arms, it can also be applied on the stomach, as well! a lot of people end up applying it to their stomach for a variety of reasons, it can be easier for a lot of folks and also it's a larger surface area so it makes it easier for it to absorb properly. if you want to be absolutely sure, if you were given one, take a look at the instruction sheet that came with it. if you were not given one, google the manufacturer's name plus the dose of the gel and see if you can find that manual or a page on their website that tells you where specifically they advise you to apply it
but typically, the stomach (don't use your chest) is recommended by most formulations of testosterone gel. that's where i applied it when i took it! good luck! i know dealing with eczema isn't easy, it's hard to deal with dermatological conditions. if you have a dermatologist this would also be a good question to ask them, as well. if you have any more questions feel free to ask!

Natural vs. Synthetic Testosterone: Which is Better for Testosterone Replacement Therapy?
Testosterone Replacement Therapy (TRT) has become a cornerstone treatment for men experiencing low testosterone levels. One of the key decisions for anyone considering TRT is choosing between natural (bioidentical) testosterone and synthetic testosterone. At Ignite HRT, we provide personalized TRT solutions tailored to the unique needs of each client, and understanding the difference between natural and synthetic options is critical to making an informed decision.
This article will explore the differences between natural and synthetic testosterone, their benefits, risks, and which option may be best suited for your TRT journey.
What Is Testosterone Replacement Therapy?
Before diving into the differences between natural and synthetic testosterone, it's essential to understand TRT itself. TRT is used to restore optimal testosterone levels in men who have low testosterone, commonly due to age, medical conditions, or injury.
Low testosterone, or hypogonadism, can cause a variety of symptoms, including fatigue, reduced libido, difficulty gaining muscle mass, increased body fat, and mood changes. TRT helps restore hormonal balance, improving energy, strength, and overall well-being.
At Ignite HRT, we use cutting-edge techniques and personalized treatment plans to ensure each client receives the most effective therapy, whether it involves natural or synthetic testosterone.
What is Natural Testosterone (Bioidentical)?
Natural testosterone, often referred to as bioidentical testosterone, is a form of the hormone that is chemically identical to the testosterone produced by the human body. Bioidentical hormones are derived from plant sources such as yams or soy and are processed to have the same molecular structure as human testosterone.
Since bioidentical testosterone mimics the body’s natural hormone, many proponents believe it offers a more natural and harmonious treatment for men with low testosterone levels.
Benefits of Bioidentical (Natural) Testosterone
1. Molecular Match with the Body
One of the most significant advantages of natural testosterone is that it is biologically identical to what your body naturally produces. This can result in smoother integration and fewer side effects because the body recognizes it as its own hormone. At Ignite HRT, we’ve seen that many clients prefer bioidentical testosterone for this very reason.
2. Lower Risk of Side Effects
Since bioidentical testosterone is structurally the same as the body's own hormone, the risk of side effects, such as acne, hair loss, or mood swings, may be reduced for some individuals. However, it’s important to note that side effects can still occur, and the body’s response varies from person to person. At Ignite HRT, we carefully monitor each client to ensure that therapy is both effective and safe.
3. Perceived as More "Natural"
Many clients are drawn to bioidentical testosterone because it is derived from plant sources and viewed as a more natural treatment. For individuals who are health-conscious or prefer holistic approaches to medicine, bioidentical testosterone may feel like the more appealing option.
4. Customizable Formulations
Bioidentical testosterone can be compounded into creams, gels, injections, or pellets, allowing for more flexibility in terms of delivery methods. This is especially beneficial for men who may have a preference for how they receive their treatment. At Ignite HRT, we offer a range of options to ensure that the method aligns with your lifestyle and comfort.
What is Synthetic Testosterone?
Synthetic testosterone, on the other hand, is a manufactured version of the hormone, which does not always match the exact molecular structure of natural human testosterone. Although synthetic testosterone can be highly effective, the molecular differences may impact how the body processes and reacts to the hormone.
Synthetic testosterone is commonly available in various forms, including injections, gels, patches, and tablets. It has been the standard for testosterone replacement therapy for decades, with a long history of use in medical practice.
Benefits of Synthetic Testosterone
1. Proven Effectiveness
Synthetic testosterone has been extensively studied and used for many years, with proven results in treating hypogonadism and other conditions related to low testosterone. For men who need immediate and reliable results, synthetic testosterone remains a popular and effective option. At Ignite HRT, we offer trusted synthetic testosterone options for clients seeking this form of therapy.
2. More Potent Dosing
In some cases, synthetic testosterone may be formulated to provide a more potent dose, which can lead to faster results in building muscle mass, increasing libido, and boosting energy levels. For men who need significant testosterone restoration, synthetic options might deliver quicker outcomes.
3. Available in Multiple Delivery Methods
Like bioidentical testosterone, synthetic testosterone can also be administered in various forms, including injections, patches, or gels. This flexibility allows clients to choose a method that fits their routine and preferences. Ignite HRT offers a wide range of delivery methods to ensure the therapy works in harmony with your lifestyle.
Comparing Natural and Synthetic Testosterone: Key Differences
1. Chemical Structure
Natural (Bioidentical) Testosterone: Chemically identical to human testosterone.
Synthetic Testosterone: Not always a perfect match to human testosterone; there are minor molecular differences.
These molecular differences are what some believe to contribute to potential side effects with synthetic testosterone that might not be present with bioidentical hormones.
2. Source
Natural Testosterone: Derived from plant sources like yams or soy.
Synthetic Testosterone: Manufactured through chemical processes in laboratories.
While both are effective in raising testosterone levels, many people feel more comfortable knowing that bioidentical hormones come from natural sources, even though they still require processing.
3. Side Effects
While both natural and synthetic testosterone can cause side effects, bioidentical testosterone is often considered to have a slightly lower risk of side effects due to its molecular match with human testosterone. However, it’s important to emphasize that side effects depend on the individual, dosage, and how the body responds to therapy. Whether natural or synthetic, Ignite HRT ensures close monitoring of every client to prevent and address any adverse effects.
4. Cost and Availability
Natural Testosterone: Can sometimes be more expensive than synthetic options, especially if customized compounding is required.
Synthetic Testosterone: Generally more widely available and potentially more cost-effective due to mass production.
At Ignite HRT, we offer both natural and synthetic testosterone options, ensuring that cost does not limit your access to the best therapy for your needs.
Potential Risks of Both Natural and Synthetic Testosterone
Whether you choose natural or synthetic testosterone, TRT is not without risks. Potential side effects include:
Fluid Retention: Leading to swelling, particularly in the lower legs.
Increased Red Blood Cell Production: Raising the risk of blood clots.
Sleep Apnea: Testosterone therapy can worsen or trigger sleep apnea in some men.
Prostate Issues: Although not conclusively proven, there’s concern that TRT could exacerbate prostate problems.
At Ignite HRT, we prioritize patient safety by conducting thorough evaluations before starting treatment and performing regular monitoring throughout the process to catch any issues early.
Which Option is Right for You?
The choice between natural (bioidentical) and synthetic testosterone ultimately depends on your unique body chemistry, health needs, and personal preferences. Here are a few considerations to help guide your decision:
Preference for a Natural Approach: If you prefer a treatment closer to what your body naturally produces, bioidentical testosterone might be the better option.
Cost-Effectiveness: If budget is a concern, synthetic testosterone may be a more affordable choice.
Speed of Results: For those looking for quicker, more potent outcomes, synthetic testosterone may deliver faster results.
Minimizing Side Effects: If minimizing potential side effects is your priority, bioidentical testosterone might be worth considering, though side effects can occur with either option.
At Ignite HRT, we offer both bioidentical and synthetic testosterone therapies, giving you the freedom to choose the best option for your body and lifestyle. Our experienced team will guide you through the decision-making process with personalized recommendations and expert support.
Conclusion
Choosing between natural and synthetic testosterone for TRT is an important decision that should be made with careful consideration. Both options have their benefits, and the best choice depends on your personal health goals, preferences, and budget. At Ignite HRT, we specialize in crafting individualized testosterone replacement therapy plans that optimize results and minimize risks.
