Sometimes I think a lot about my mom's cat
My mom's cat is a common domestic shorthair we found on the side of the road as a kitten
Regular cat, not a maine coon or one of those massive breeds. His mom was smaller than a loaf of bread
But in a sort of a Clifford The Big Red Dog situation, he grew super fast, and really really big, and took a super long time to stop growing
Worried that she was overfeeding him, she eased back his portions, but he stayed a massive round baby
When he started having kidney problems, she took him to the vet.
The vet took a look at him and said, "holy fuck, what are you feeding him", checked the nutritional listings on his chow, and told her "Yeah, maybe he's reacting badly to the amount of grain in this, try a meatier diet"
So my mom wound up special-ordering this specific high-protein prescription cat food made of like. Kangaroo meat or some shit that cost like sixty bucks a bag
And, as typical act two in an episode of House, he somehow got worse on the fancy specialized stuff that was supposed to be Primo Athlete Olympic Feline Blend
Like. WAY worse. His guts were inflamed and his kidneys were shutting down and he was all sore and HE WAS STILL HUGE, just miserable and sad
So shetook him back to the vet, where they had to help him pee (he was apparently close to bursting and had some kind of blockage too) and went "Yeah no this is NOT normal and we don't know what's going on, we're gonna do some tests but in the meantime you should go back to what he was eating before, at least that wasn't actively killing him" so she did
And he still wasn't great, but he also improved
And so they take his blood and do an ultrasound and a couple g's later she gets a call back like "this is gonna sound crazy, but we want you to put him on a low-meat diet. Just the least amount of protein and iron and shit. We need you to find the grainiest, filler-iest dollar tree kibble available and give him some of that bad bad shit"
And my mother is a woman of science. So she did
And he GOT BETTER
His energy picked back up, inflammation went down, he started drinking normally again, got back to pissing like a fuckin champion
And so it turns out that out of all the random ass freeway bonus cats we possibly could have scooped out of a ditch, WE got the one-in-a-million freak of nature with a SPECIFIC genetic defect that means a paleo protein free range diet is essentially poison and he THRIVES on cheap ass garbage
Like. He medically NEEDS junk food
I dont really understand how that works, but i cant argue with results.
If we had four of him, they'd outweigh my mom. And he's FINE
Also blind, but that's unrelated
Im not using him as a symbol or a metaphor or anything. I just keep catching myself thinking about my mom's Big Fucking Cat

Listening to neolib white girls complain about Appalachia in this class for the past two hours is testing me. Rich white women's greatest bastion of creativity is finding socially acceptable ways to villify and condescend to impoverished people
#AMENNN#in addition#✅ i am jealous of their distinguished regional dialect. i wish i could sound that cool naturally#✅ i believe that illiteracy is the fault of the individual#✅ i believe that lack of education is the fault of the individual#✅ i think that all people from appalachia are uneducated and illiterate#✅ i have never felt the sweet touch of river rocks#✅ i have never seen a raccoon deer armadillo or whipporwill irl and i am viciously envious#✅ tried to catch a lightning bug but couldnt#✅ again i cannot fucking overstate the racism and classism#like. this gets me so upset#'haha trailer parks hicks mountain dew hunting' ITS THE POVERTY#things have not changed it continues to be the fucking poverty#its exploitation and segregation and lack of infrastructure#its the coal mining that gave people black lungs and cancer and pneumonia and killed them for pennies#and mountaintop removal that caused mudslides and pushed people out of their homes#and everything to do with company towns#go look up 'i owe my soul to the company store'#coal companies actively recruited recently freed black people into working for them#anyway. i could go on for a long time this is something that gets me going im sorry for the tag onslaught op#but like. i dont know#the most frustrating part is having the language to describe it. being able to talk to people who arent from there or hide your accent#and knowing that it's unfair that people who weren't afforded your opportunities wont get listened to#theyll get written off. because they don't talk 'right' or look 'right' or have the 'right' vocabulary#and 'right' is always white and rich#anyway. i miss lightning bugs and catfish noodling and the cold rivers and the autumn leaves#and the way it smells right before a thunderstorm and that you can find crawdads and periwinkles underneath any creek stone you turn#i miss picking pecans off the ground where they fell and i miss being surrounded by people who sound like me#i had to leave because legislation was against me existing. and i was privileged enough to be able to move somewhere else#but i miss it so so badly. and i wish people wouldn't tell me my friends and family aren't worth caring about or protecting

*in hysterics* i just feel like all any of you want me for is my large van that can easily transport large items, furniture, and gravel across long distances
#shitpost#said this to roommate sister and she nearly died laughing so all of you are subjected to it now 👍#prompted by my father asking me to go on a day trip with him#but the day trip is very much to pick up a new washing machine. and my van was mentioned several times#very very funny to me

I do think it’s ultimately the potion seller’s right to not sell the knight potions that would explode the knight and that it’s out of hubris that the knight keeps insisting on only the strongest potions but I also think it’s a situation born on clashing egos because the potion seller is clearly proud of how strong he can make his potions and here comes a common bloke insinuating that he can handle the best of what the potion seller is capable of offering, and instead of offering more suitable alternatives from his own stock the potion seller completely shutters down on this initial gaffe out of pride - note how he says “you’d better go to a seller that sells weaker potions” instead of recommending his own weaker potions, suggesting that he is still stuck on the knight’s request as an insult to his abilities as a seller above anything else, and reasserting himself as a high quality seller relative to other sellers. ultimately this unfortunate interaction happens because neither party is willing to cede an inch out of the initial affront to their self image
#so true#however its possible that the potion seller was a specialist#and *only* sold high level potions#thereby meaning that his assertion was not one borne of ego but of caution#the knight is evidently unfamiliar with the market and doesn't know what he's asking for#indeed; his demeanour rapidly deteriorates into desperation when denied#i would judge that he is a knight not long parted from squirehood#and that the potion seller intends to make it clear that even his weakest potions would be too strong#not a man of pride but of confidence in his own craft

Also I've said this before but advertising is an industry that should be considered as pointless and harmful as fossil fuels.

y'all HAVE to watch this...interview??? with the inmates of the prison where luigi mangione is being held.
the reporter is standing outside the prison walls, while the inmates are inside watching newsmax, and collectively screaming out one-word answers to questions loud enough to be heard by the reporter.
I've never seen anything like it
