Lord of the Rings, but for Dog-People
Got a few laika-related GIFs up on Tenor and Giphy. Then told bestie about going to watch Happy People for the next four hours for 2 minutes of bliss (vegan-friendly; not vegan-friendly). Anyway, Happy People is the Lord of the Rings: Extended Edition for dog-people. The more famous English-language narration from Werner Herzog from 2010 is an hour and 34 minutes long whereas the original 2007 runtime is over three hours and a half.
Not sure what kind of content warnings to put on this because an ex-partner was an animal rights activist, and an ideological vegan; but that person has a lot of flexibility due to influences from deep ecology, social ecology and green anarchism. Topics like agribusiness, industrial raising of pigs and chickens, cattle feedlots, fur farms, sport fishing and trophy hunting were off limits; but landrace livestock, subsistence hunting and fishing were okay. But there are others where all of the above are off the table.
Content warning: subsistence living, fishing via nets, commercial trapping, industrial hunting

This is rather random and I don’t usually do this type of thing but I realized recently that one of my best friends doesn’t enjoy mysteries/dramas because they prefer to “escape reality.” Which, yeah, makes sense. Until I realized I do the exact opposite, because if I cannot see some form of suffering and how a person responds to/overcomes said suffering in media, I don’t want to see it.
So here’s my question for all of you! Why do you consume media? To escape, or to analyze?
(This is not about genres, this is about general preference for enjoying media)

1985 promo for Alice in Wonderland/Through the Looking Glass mini series. I remember watching the first night when I was very young and being traumatized by the cliff hanger ending, lol. But it's a wonderful version of the story with a star studded cast of classic actors, comedians, and even a Beatle! :D

Under the Bridge (prod. Quinn Shephard).
Hulu's miniseries adaptation of novelist Rebecca Godfrey's non-fiction true crime book chronicling the 1997 beating death of fourteen-year-old Indo-Canadian teenager Reena Virk in Saanich conjures up bad memories of moral panic from British Columbians who remember the lurid details of the shocking murder. While both trying to maintain fidelity to the real-life tragedy, the series plays with the timelines, characters, and chronology to make the events more dramatic and neat despite the inexplicable circumstances. Godrey as a character (played by Riley Keough) plays a key role in understanding the young perpetrators' motives while looping in the the police investigation led by Lily Gladstone as a composite Indigenous cop character.
