The one and only rouge the bat

Sometimes, I want Shadow to be really upset and Omega picks him up and brings him in for a hug and says “APPLYING DEEP PRESSURE” before tightening the hug because Shadow likes deep pressure hugs, and Shadow just chills there with his eyes closed, legs dangling and arms wrapped around Omega the best they can.

Bonus points if Rouge walks in and jokes about Omega caring about them and being a hugger, and Omega goes “NEGATIVE. I AM SIMPLY AIDING SHADOW IN REGULATING HIS EMOTIONS.”

“Letting go of the Past”

Description: Shadow thought he had let go of his rage a long time ago. Turns out he was wrong.

Notes: Ough, the angst potential in this one. Let’s hope I do well, and I hope you enjoy!

Today was never a pleasant day for Shadow. Rouge and Omega both knew to leave him alone on this day unless he asked for their company. Hell, even Sonic had learned he wanted to be left alone today.

So here he was, on the way to the flower shop, getting forget-me-nots for her, to put on her grave. But this time, something was different.

Another man was purchasing a bouquet, filled with roses, lilies, carnations, tulips, orchids, and hyacinths. The flowers of apology.

Shadow didn’t think much of it at the time. So he just bought his flowers and left, the owner of the shop giving him a respectful salute as he leaves.

Shadow heads over to her grave, but the same man in the shop is there, placing the flowers down on a familiar grave.

Her grave.

It must have been one of the scientists, Shadow thought.

Not wanting to interact with him, Shadow decided he would wait until the man left to give Maria her flowers.

But he heard something he shouldn’t.

“I’m sorry for that day,” he heard the man mutter. “You two were just kids. You didn’t deserve anything that happened to you on that day.”

Shadow’s pupils suddenly dilate to a small size hearing the man talk.

He recognized him.

He was the agent who killed Maria.

And now, he had the AUDACITY to APOLOGIZE for KILLING HER?!

To say Shadow was mad would be an understatement.

He was PISSED.

He should attack the former agent here for what he did.

…

But he didn’t.

He stopped himself.

Maria wouldn’t have wanted this.

So he waited for the former agent to leave before setting the forget-me-nots atop Maria’s grave.

“Sorry I can’t stay long this time, Maria,” Shadow mutters. “But I’ll visit soon.”

Shadow teleports back to his and Team Dark’s shared apartment, sitting down on the couch next to Rouge, setting his head on her shoulder.

Rouge looks concerned but doesn’t say anything, putting an arm around Shadow, who lets out a sigh.

“Wanna talk about it, hun?” Rouge asks.

“DO YOU NEED ME TO DESTROY SOMETHING?” Omega asks.

“…No to both. I’m fine,” Shadow mutters. “I just don’t want to be alone with my thoughts…”

Rouge nods. She can understand that.

Today was never great for Shadow. But at least he has his friends to help him out when he needs it.

Shadow and Rouge have had a conversation before about what they'd do when Eggman's finally out of the picture. What started as a casual spitball of holiday destinations and underhanded get-rich-quick schemes turned deadly serious when they struck on the question of Omega:

Will he be overjoyed, satisfied, find new meaning and purpose for himself? What will purpose look like if there is no Eggman, and no more robots? How will he cope if he doesn't have a hand in the final fight? And what will it do to him if he does?

They now have contingency plans for what and how they're going to handle any range of reactions they think they might get out of him, but still in the back of their minds they dread it just a bit. And wonder if he does to.
