Quick story time. I'm graduating from college tomorrow, and I have mixed feelings. While student teaching started out rough in the very beginning and ended on a great note, I realized these last couple days that while I was beginning to find myself as a teacher, I was starting to lose myself as an artist. I haven't finished one oil painting this semester, and I barely sat at my easel. I did sometimes work in my sketchbook, but I started to use my oils less and less. This really brought my morale down. Imagine seeing him again after one year since graduation.

It’s been a year since graduation, a year since you last saw him.

You were walking around the bookstore; finding a nice book to buy since it's been almost a month since you bought a book. You were walking to the next aisle when you saw him, examining a book. You quickly hid, trying to calm your heart from doing more flips. You thought-you were sure after graduation you were completely over him but seeing him now told you that you weren’t. You were still in love with him and just thinking about it made you feel all the pain from the past; making tears form in your eyes. You straightened up and started walking, skipping the aisle he was in, you were almost there when a voice stopped you.

“Y/N?” His voice still the same. Deep, husky, smooth, velvety it was still there. You stopped walking, but not even turning around because you know if you did you will break down. “Y/N? Is that you?” Shock was in his tone and something else. You didn't want to turn around but deep down you knew that this day would come where you would have to face him again. You took a deep breath and faced him.

"Sir. Good morning." He let out a relieved sigh.

"Dear lord, Y/N." He breathed out with a small smile on his face.

'Y/N control your breathing.' You thought. You closed your eyes and silently counted.

"Y/N it's been a year since I last saw you..." He said, his eyes drooping a bit.

"I know.." You softly said, bringing your head down, looking at your fidgeting hands.

"I miss you; you know." He took small steps forward watching you fidget your hands. "School has been boring eversince you graduated." Chuckling at his own statement probably reliving some memories but it died down when he noticed that you didn't say anything witty like you used to do.

"I need to go. It's nice seeing you sir." You turned around and started walking to the exit. You didn't like it today and you regretted coming here. Tears were already falling down your face and the lump forming in you throat.

"Y/N wait!" You heard rapid footsteps indicating he was walking fast trying to catch up with you and this made you quicken your pace until you stopped at the entrance of the shop which made him stop when he saw you there. "Y/N..."

You turned around seeing his body tense and his eyes wide at your state. "You know today I regret coming here. Why did you have to be here."

"I-." You cut him off by walking away. Leaving him there standing with a frown on his face.

Teacher Thoughts

I know this is my weightloss journey but sometimes you have to just go blah.

Teachers take things personally because they care. No teacher worth their salt has ever heard feedback and not cared. We get angry and upset because we do our best, we work hard for those children. We think upper levels don’t see how hard they work. They know, they’ve been there. But upper management would be doing us ‘the teacher’ a disservice by not giving us areas to improve. It’s a viscous circle. We want to do the best for the children, we are told how to be better, we care so much we feel criticised. Really we should thank people for their input, thank them try it and if it improves our practise then great. If it doesn’t we tried. We teach children to persevere and learn from their mistakes. We don’t like beings wrong because we are usually in charge. Teachers don’t make good students.

However, it WILL happen and you have to deal with it. Sending them to school sick should *NEVER* be an option. As a teacher, I’ve heard quite a few excuses from parents as to why their child showed up to school sick. 🤧 It’s just allergies. 🤢 He threw up last night, but I’m sure it was something he ate. 😷 It’s just a little cough. 🤒 I gave him Motrin before school, so he should be fine. —- NONE of that is fine. Stop MAKING UP excuses. I’m positive some parents don’t realize what they’re doing to others when they send their kid to school sick. 1. Your #infectious child is now spreading their #germs with every surface, crayon, handle, faucet, and anything else they can get their hands on. 2. Your infectious child will most likely get one or more children sick. 3. Your infectious child could get their teacher(s) sick. Are School Improvement Funds Being Used the Correct Way?

School Improvement Funds are grants that are authorized under Title I of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965. These funds are dispersed to schools to provide an adequate amount of resources in order to increase the achievement level of the school. School Improvement funds were also put into place in order to help low performing schools raise their proficiency levels. From further research, I have found that the school improvement funds should support the school improvement plan that is created at the beginning of each year. Before money is dispersed, the School Advisory Council meets to decide how the money will be spent. The money must be on projects or programs that were outlined in the School improvement Plan, as well as approved by the SAC. In my opinion, School Improvement Plans are beneficial when used properly. The thought of receiving funds are great; but too often money is being spent on things that are not important necessities to the success of our students. I believe that when we being looking at how the money is being spent, we need to look at the long-term effects of what we are purchasing and most importantly, look at how it is helping to reach the goals outlined in the improvement plan. When thinking long-term, it is important to consider what is going to be of continued use and not discontinued hastily. As stated before, the School Improvement Funds are essential to the ongoing success of our students and schools; only when used properly.

I was thinking earlier that I wonder if my students who listen to hip hop have any idea about this song.

Are they aware that a song inspired people to march in the streets? Are they aware that rap doesn’t need to objectify women but can fuel a revolution? Would they appreciate this for what it is or would they not care? 

These are the type of things I wonder about at times...

My Expedition to Bilay NHS

Hey there! Got here few photos of our early expedition this morning where I was assigned as an examiner for the 2015 NCAE (August 26, 2015)---accompanied with my ever supportive and loving papa kiki emoticon

(Disclaimer: This post refers only to the most unforgettable experiences going to Bilay NHS. Most of the time I enjoyed the whole duration of travel, especially on the part that it was my first time to be an examiner of NCAE this school year! :))

Basic Facts: Brgy. Bilay is located Southeast of Butuan. Its neighboring barangays are Aupagan, Don Fransisco, Salvacion, Some two sitios, and Pigdaulan. The barangay is mainly surrounded with around 80% lush green ricefields, 100-foot cliffs, the Agusan river, and some water outlets of which I believe came from a goldmine factory (Please check names)

Our expedition timetable: 5:30 a.m.

My dad actually disagreed to my mom's original plan of letting me commute with a conventional motorcycle (The ultimate habal-habal), mainly of course to avoid spasms, second, he's not familiar with the off-road route system to Bilay, and his safety. Yet, my papa insisted. Maybe because he knew how scary it could be to drive with an unknown habal-habal driver in a dawn.

On the clock, we took the Brgy. Tagabaca as our entry point. At first, it was all smooth because the terrain is still flat fair and square.

We were kinda "lost". Good thing is that we're still in a community. Indeed, we are blessed, we have 3 instant human GPSs along the way. I could still remember when a farmer remarked us with, "Layo pa ra ba kaayo!" (Long way to go!). There were cute animals of different sizes and shapes paved, i.e. Carabaos (Water Buffalo), Cattles, Goats, ducks, pigs, roosters, dogs, cats, millipedes, big bugs and some unclear species that kept on following us for 5 mins.

A thick fog already engulfed our way. It means we are landing on an uphill side. Rocks of different sizes started to appear from nowhere. Thick sword-like bundle of Amorseco plants started to suprise us with cold moisture. Ah, yeah. It was so cold that I forgot to mention I was entirely wrapped with a thick head scarf, black overcoat, and a multi-shock helmet. We added 3 people on the roster to ask, "Diri agion ang Bilay?" (Is this the way to Bilay?)

I started to freak out when I saw small boulders (Yes, extra large igneous rocks) on the road. Well, I screamed...in my mind. No worries. We are okaaaaay~ not to mention the super deep potholes.

Finally we arrived! Though, we need to cross the foot-deep spillway. Yep! My shoes got splashed with the cold water and yes it feels sooooo good! It was the best part of the travel. Yey!

We finally arrived! And yes, God indeed blessed us! Plus, we are the earliest people in the school! smile emoticon
