Quick story time. I'm graduating from college tomorrow, and I have mixed feelings. While student teaching started out rough in the very beginning and ended on a great note, I realized these last couple days that while I was beginning to find myself as a teacher, I was starting to lose myself as an artist. I haven't finished one oil painting this semester, and I barely sat at my easel. I did sometimes work in my sketchbook, but I started to use my oils less and less. This really brought my morale down. Today, I got up early and sat at my easel and even though teaching is fun, this is the most happiness I have felt in months. #reflections #journal #succulent #succulentpainting #oilpainting #foodforthought #colorfulchaos #collegegraduate #doitfortheprocess #makersmovement #oilpainting #oilpainter #teacherthoughts #studioscenes #artofinstagram #artistsofinstagram #easel #paintersworld #painterstudio #palette https://www.instagram.com/p/BxSP6WxpZ1g/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=133ywx6cq52sc

teacher imagine #1
Imagine seeing him again after one year since graduation.
---------------------------------
It’s been a year since graduation, a year since you last saw him.
You were walking around the bookstore; finding a nice book to buy since it's been almost a month since you bought a book. You were walking to the next aisle when you saw him, examining a book. You quickly hid, trying to calm your heart from doing more flips. You thought-you were sure after graduation you were completely over him but seeing him now told you that you weren’t. You were still in love with him and just thinking about it made you feel all the pain from the past; making tears form in your eyes. You straightened up and started walking, skipping the aisle he was in, you were almost there when a voice stopped you.
“Y/N?” His voice still the same. Deep, husky, smooth, velvety it was still there. You stopped walking, but not even turning around because you know if you did you will break down. “Y/N? Is that you?” Shock was in his tone and something else. You didn't want to turn around but deep down you knew that this day would come where you would have to face him again. You took a deep breath and faced him.
"Sir. Good morning." He let out a relieved sigh.
"Dear lord, Y/N." He breathed out with a small smile on his face.
'Y/N control your breathing.' You thought. You closed your eyes and silently counted.
"Y/N it's been a year since I last saw you..." He said, his eyes drooping a bit.
"I know.." You softly said, bringing your head down, looking at your fidgeting hands.
"I miss you; you know." He took small steps forward watching you fidget your hands. "School has been boring eversince you graduated." Chuckling at his own statement probably reliving some memories but it died down when he noticed that you didn't say anything witty like you used to do.
"I need to go. It's nice seeing you sir." You turned around and started walking to the exit. You didn't like it today and you regretted coming here. Tears were already falling down your face and the lump forming in you throat.
"Y/N wait!" You heard rapid footsteps indicating he was walking fast trying to catch up with you and this made you quicken your pace until you stopped at the entrance of the shop which made him stop when he saw you there. "Y/N..."
You turned around seeing his body tense and his eyes wide at your state. "You know today I regret coming here. Why did you have to be here."
"I-." You cut him off by walking away. Leaving him there standing with a frown on his face.

Teacher Thoughts
I know this is my weightloss journey but sometimes you have to just go blah.
Teachers take things personally because they care. No teacher worth their salt has ever heard feedback and not cared. We get angry and upset because we do our best, we work hard for those children. We think upper levels don’t see how hard they work. They know, they’ve been there. But upper management would be doing us ‘the teacher’ a disservice by not giving us areas to improve. It’s a viscous circle. We want to do the best for the children, we are told how to be better, we care so much we feel criticised. Really we should thank people for their input, thank them try it and if it improves our practise then great. If it doesn’t we tried. We teach children to persevere and learn from their mistakes. We don’t like beings wrong because we are usually in charge. Teachers don’t make good students.

Should Kids ‘Catch Up’, Or Should The Curriculum ‘Slow Down’? #TeacherThoughts #TeacherThursday
It’s been quite a week, already, and it hasn’t even finished, yet. BoJo made the announcement we all knew was coming, but kinda hoped wouldn’t. That ALL schools are reopening to the children on Monday, 8th March. Now, as you all know, we have been ‘open’ the whole time, remotely teaching the pupils who would usually be in our classrooms, since January 4th. The extreme lockdown was put upon the…

#Repost @alyjane_ with @get_repost #sickstayhome Swipe left. ・・・ I understand the hassle of having a sick child. You have to take time off work or find someone willing to care for your sick child. However, it WILL happen and you have to deal with it. Sending them to school sick should *NEVER* be an option. As a teacher, I’ve heard quite a few excuses from parents as to why their child showed up to school sick. 🤧 It’s just allergies. 🤢 He threw up last night, but I’m sure it was something he ate. 😷 It’s just a little cough. 🤒 I gave him Motrin before school, so he should be fine. —- NONE of that is fine. Stop MAKING UP excuses. I’m positive some parents don’t realize what they’re doing to others when they send their kid to school sick. 1. Your #infectious child is now spreading their #germs with every surface, crayon, handle, faucet, and anything else they can get their hands on. 2. Your infectious child will most likely get one or more children sick. 3. Your infectious child could get their teacher(s) sick. In 2019 alone, I had an #ambulance ride to the emergency room [not for fun] due to #dehydration from the stomach flu and another incident where I ended up in the hospital due to #bronchitis. 🙄 An article from @scarymommy written by Love Barnett states it perfectly: “Don’t stand there and growl about how fiercely you’ll protect your own child while deliberately infecting another mother’s baby because of your own self-involved negligence.” (https://bit.ly/2TGhu81) . . . . . #SickKids #KeepSickKidsHome #NoSchoolForSickKids #DontGetMeSick #StayAtHome #RoughTimes #ColdAndFluSeason #ColdSeason #FluSeason #ParentLife #TeacherLife #DontInfectMe #ScaryMommy #ParentExcuses #GetWellSoon #TeacherThoughts #LifeOfATeacher #WashYourHands #CoverYourMouth #DontCoughOnMe https://www.instagram.com/p/B7mWXlKAfj5/?igshid=nkfwiz24gm5d

Are School Improvement Funds Being Used the Correct Way?
School Improvement Funds are grants that are authorized under Title I of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965. These funds are dispersed to schools to provide an adequate amount of resources in order to increase the achievement level of the school. School Improvement funds were also put into place in order to help low performing schools raise their proficiency levels. From further research, I have found that the school improvement funds should support the school improvement plan that is created at the beginning of each year. Before money is dispersed, the School Advisory Council meets to decide how the money will be spent. The money must be on projects or programs that were outlined in the School improvement Plan, as well as approved by the SAC. In my opinion, School Improvement Plans are beneficial when used properly. The thought of receiving funds are great; but too often money is being spent on things that are not important necessities to the success of our students. I believe that when we being looking at how the money is being spent, we need to look at the long-term effects of what we are purchasing and most importantly, look at how it is helping to reach the goals outlined in the improvement plan. When thinking long-term, it is important to consider what is going to be of continued use and not discontinued hastily. As stated before, the School Improvement Funds are essential to the ongoing success of our students and schools; only when used properly.

I was thinking earlier that I wonder if my students who listen to hip hop have any idea about this song.
Are they aware that a song inspired people to march in the streets? Are they aware that rap doesn’t need to objectify women but can fuel a revolution? Would they appreciate this for what it is or would they not care?
These are the type of things I wonder about at times...

My Expedition to Bilay NHS
Hey there! Got here few photos of our early expedition this morning where I was assigned as an examiner for the 2015 NCAE (August 26, 2015)---accompanied with my ever supportive and loving papa kiki emoticon
(Disclaimer: This post refers only to the most unforgettable experiences going to Bilay NHS. Most of the time I enjoyed the whole duration of travel, especially on the part that it was my first time to be an examiner of NCAE this school year! :))
Basic Facts: Brgy. Bilay is located Southeast of Butuan. Its neighboring barangays are Aupagan, Don Fransisco, Salvacion, Some two sitios, and Pigdaulan. The barangay is mainly surrounded with around 80% lush green ricefields, 100-foot cliffs, the Agusan river, and some water outlets of which I believe came from a goldmine factory (Please check names)
Our expedition timetable: 5:30 a.m.
My dad actually disagreed to my mom's original plan of letting me commute with a conventional motorcycle (The ultimate habal-habal), mainly of course to avoid spasms, second, he's not familiar with the off-road route system to Bilay, and his safety. Yet, my papa insisted. Maybe because he knew how scary it could be to drive with an unknown habal-habal driver in a dawn.
On the clock, we took the Brgy. Tagabaca as our entry point. At first, it was all smooth because the terrain is still flat fair and square.
5:45
We were kinda "lost". Good thing is that we're still in a community. Indeed, we are blessed, we have 3 instant human GPSs along the way. I could still remember when a farmer remarked us with, "Layo pa ra ba kaayo!" (Long way to go!). There were cute animals of different sizes and shapes paved, i.e. Carabaos (Water Buffalo), Cattles, Goats, ducks, pigs, roosters, dogs, cats, millipedes, big bugs and some unclear species that kept on following us for 5 mins.
5:47
A thick fog already engulfed our way. It means we are landing on an uphill side. Rocks of different sizes started to appear from nowhere. Thick sword-like bundle of Amorseco plants started to suprise us with cold moisture. Ah, yeah. It was so cold that I forgot to mention I was entirely wrapped with a thick head scarf, black overcoat, and a multi-shock helmet. We added 3 people on the roster to ask, "Diri agion ang Bilay?" (Is this the way to Bilay?)
5:49
I started to freak out when I saw small boulders (Yes, extra large igneous rocks) on the road. Well, I screamed...in my mind. No worries. We are okaaaaay~ not to mention the super deep potholes.
6:00
Finally we arrived! Though, we need to cross the foot-deep spillway. Yep! My shoes got splashed with the cold water and yes it feels sooooo good! It was the best part of the travel. Yey!
6:15
We finally arrived! And yes, God indeed blessed us! Plus, we are the earliest people in the school! smile emoticon
P.S. end of part one.

Freedom of Speech for the School Newspaper
Freedom of Speech falls under the First Amendment. The First Amendment states that “Congress shall make no law abridging the freedom of speech.” The freedom to express a particular opinion, whether verbally, by publishing literature, or even wearing clothing that convey certain messages and opinions.  Throughout the course of the years there have been many restrictions added to the use of Freedom of Speech; especially within the school setting. As a result, the Supreme Court has ruled that the Constitution guarantee each student freedom of speech and expression in the public schools. However, because of the irregular setting and needs of the school environment, the Supreme Court has permitted more restrictions on student speech than would be permitted outside of school.
The influential case involving student freedom of speech rights is Tinker v. Des Moines Independent School District, decided by the Supreme Court in 1969. The Tinker case arose during the peak of the Vietnam War when a group of public high school and elementary school students were suspended for wearing black arm bands to school to protest the war. School officials discovered the plan prior to the day the students intended to wear the arm bands and forbade the students from wearing them, allegedly fearing that the demonstration would cause a disturbance. The students rebelled against this prohibition, and, although only a few students objected to the arm bands, school officials suspended them. The Supreme Court then ruled that given that the students did not cause a disturbance or interrupt the school day, they should have not been suspended and the school had indeed violated their First Amendment rights. This led to the ruling that students “Do not shed their constitutional rights at the front gate”. This also clarified the acceptability of the forms of speech students could partake in. In this case it was symbolic speech.
Additionally, the Tinker case was used for several court hearings and deliberations. It helped to shape the restrictions of Freedom of Speech. Student speech may be suppressed only if the speech materially and substantially interferes with the requirements of appropriate discipline in the operation of the schools; invades or collides with the rights of others; is vulgar, lewd, obscene, or plainly offensive; or is school-sponsored. Furthermore, as with free speech rights in any context, school officials may impose reasonable time, place and manner restrictions on student speech.
School Related Speech
Freedom of Speech as it relates to school newspapers and yearbooks, it was interesting to learn that school officials has authority to regulate any school sponsored publication. This means that administration must grant approval of articles and topics before printing and publication. They also have the ability to limit certain topics from being discussed or certain verbiage from being used if they feel it would cause a disturbance to the school and/or neighboring community. The restriction of Freedom of Speech in school sponsored publications came about in 1988, The U.S. Supreme Court ruled in Hazelwood School District v. Kuhlmeier that public school officials can censor school sponsored student expression as long as they have a valid educational reason for doing so. Within this case, the school official decided that it was best to censor two stories about teenage pregnancy and the divorce of another student’s parents. They believed these stories to be embarrassing and since the father of the Divorce article could not be interviewed to tell his side of the story, the article was pulled.
Consequently, since there have been many restrictions regarding Freedom of Speech in schools, many states have acquired “Anti-Hazelwood laws” which gave greater free expression protection to students. This lead paved the way to many underground newspapers being produced where students had the flexibility to write about controversial topics. This has form of publication is protected under the Supreme Court because the expression is student initiate rather than being sponsored by the school.
All in all, Freedom of Speech is restricted in the school setting. As stated before school officials have the right to censor certain articles if they deem it to be inappropriate or see a potential cause for disruption.
