A man with numerous firearms and materials to make an explosive was arrested Thursday in former President Barack Obama’s Washington, DC, neighborhood after claiming on an internet livestream that he had a detonator, law enforcement officials told CNN.
Taylor Taranto, who had an open warrant for his arrest related to the January 6, 2021, US Capitol attack, was arrested by the Metropolitan Police Department and federal law enforcement. He has been charged with being a fugitive from justice.
“Arresting officers requested MPD’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Team to perform a vehicle sweep of the individual’s van near the location of the arrest,” the MPD said in a statement to CNN. “There is no active threat to the community and this incident remains under investigation.”
According to law enforcement officials, firearms and materials to make Molotov cocktails were found in Taranto’s car. There is currently no indication of a direct threat to the Obamas, law enforcement officials told CNN.
A spokesperson for the Obamas declined to comment.
The United States Capitol Police “assisted in the investigation due to a concern for public safety and the potential for violence against Members of Congress,” said Jason Bell, acting assistant chief for protective and intelligence operations, said in a statement. The FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Forces is continuing the investigation into Taranto’s actions.
Taranto has no fixed address, according to MPD.
Taranto is also a defendant in a civil suit filed by the estate of former MPD officer Jeffrey Smith, who died by suicide in the days following the January 6 attack. In court filings related to the ongoing suit, Taranto admitted to being inside the Capitol during the attack, but denied any wrongdoing.
The lawsuit alleges that Taranto aided in the attack of Smith during the Capitol riot by handing a cane or crowbar to another rioter, who allegedly used the weapon to attack Smith. Taranto’s actions contributed to Smith’s death, the lawsuit alleges.
The allegations, Taranto wrote, are “made up.”
Taranto, in court documents, said he went inside the Capitol that day but claimed he was acting as a “press agent” who covers left-wing protesters.
Taranto wrote he was “allowed into the Capitol without resistance” by Capitol police and claimed “the doors to the Capitol were open.”
He also claimed in court filings that he was assaulted by police inside the Capitol.

Armed Suspect Arrested Near DC Home of Barack, Michelle Obama
A suspect with an arrest warrant for the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol Building who was also carrying materials to make a bomb was arrested near the Washington, D.C., home of former President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama.
According to CBS News, which quoted multiple sources, the suspect was identified as 37-year-old Taylor Taranto of Seattle, Wash.
According to a law enforcement official who was briefed on the matter, the Secret Service identified him within blocks of Obama’s residence. After he was spotted, Taranto attempted to flee, which led to a pursuit by the Secret Service. He ran in the direction of the Obama home but was apprehended before reaching it.
The report continued: “Taranto’s van was parked close to where he was arrested. There were multiple weapons and the materials to make some kind of explosive device akin to a Molotov cocktail, but it had not been assembled, according to law enforcement officials familiar with the details. He had said he had explosives, but first responders only found the materials to make them. U.S. officials were concerned because Taranto had made threats during recent live streams on social media against a public figure. He also had an open warrant on charges related to the Jan. 6, 2021 assault on the U.S. Capitol. He wasn’t in Obama’s neighborhood by mistake, a U.S. official noted.”
As per a senior law enforcement official, Taranto had been present in the Washington, D.C., area for a few months. He had been observed camping out in his van near the D.C. jail, where numerous defendants from the January 6 incident are being detained. Additionally, some of his live streams were seemingly uploaded while he was in the vicinity of Washington, D.C., CBS News reported.
“Taranto has been charged with being a fugitive from justice, according to the Metropolitan Police Department,” CBS News reported, adding that it’s unclear if the Obamas were home at the time of the incident.
Meanwhile, the Biden family has been accused of engaging in a “kickback scheme” about his son Hunter Biden’s international business transactions, according to a former Obama administration employee who has come out with the claim.
Mike McCormick, who worked as a stenographer in the White House for 15 years, claimed that the FBI has ignored him even though he is prepared to provide a sworn statement to the federal grand jury looking into the activities of Joe Biden’s son.
“In February, I went to the FBI and filed one of their tips on their website. If you do that, and you’re lying to them, you go to jail. I’m not lying. I’m telling the truth, and I’m not going to jail,” he said. “Joe Biden is a criminal. He was conducting malfeasance in office to enrich his family. Jake Sullivan is a conspirator in that, and there’s more… Obama officials involved in it, I believe.”
“McCormick, who worked with Biden from 2011 to 2017, detailed a key dialogue involving the vice president, aide Jake Sullivan and the press on Air Force Two before a trip to Kyiv, Ukraine, on April 21, 2014. Sullivan, who is the current national security adviser, outlined in a White House transcript Biden’s priorities for his trip to the country, which included U.S. investment in the Ukrainian energy sector days after Hunter joined the board of Burisma Months later, and well after the trip, Congress allocated $50 million to Ukraine’s energy market,” the outlet reported.
“I’m sitting back there with a tape recorder. Jake Sullivan comes back and somebody asks about fracking. His answer is, well, we’re bringing a lot of American assistance over for fracking. Burisma was the direct beneficiary of that fracking, and that’s what I recorded, and that’s in a White House transcript,” the former stenographer said.
“In the transcript, you don’t know who Jake Sullivan is. It’s a senior administration official. I’m the witness that says Jake Sullivan is the guy who said it and he should be investigated because at the time Hunter Biden was on the board of Burisma and Joe Biden is bringing American taxpayer money to enrich that company and himself and his family,” he added.

Why haven't they gotten Trump for doxing former President Obama? You know he posted his address maliciously, hoping someone like Taranto would act.

Who would you cast as the voices of the Smashers, barring the official/iconic ones (like Charles Martinet, Roger Craig Smith, Antony Del Rio, etc.)? I would unironically suggest Oscar Isaac as Meta Knight (partly because of the Kirby cartoon, partly because of this one pic I found on DeviantArt).
I’ve done some voice headcanons in the past but many of them are outdated due to being from 2018 so this post will be a mix of old headcanons and new ones for characters I may or may not have done

Jan. 6 Defendant Arrested Near Obama's Home Had Guns And 400 Rounds Of Ammunition In His Van
A Trump supporter who stormed the Capitol wearing a “Make Space Great Again” hat had two guns and 400 rounds of ammunition in his van when he was arrested Thursday near former President Barack Obama’s home, federal authorities said Friday.
A federal prosecutor said in court Friday that Taylor Taranto, a 37-year-old man first identified by online sleuths in August 2021, also had a machete in the van he appeared to be living in. Taranto's van has been parked near the D.C. jail in recent weeks and he has appeared at protests in support of other Jan. 6 defendants, videos on social media show. Noting that he lived in the van, a federal prosecutor said Taranto had “nowhere to go.”
Taranto currently faces four misdemeanor counts in connection with Jan. 6, the federal prosecutor said.
Taranto showed up at Obama's residence on Thursday after former President Donald Trump posted screenshots on his Truth Social platform that featured a purported address for Obama's home in Washington. Taranto's account reposted Trump's post.
"We got these losers surrounded!" Taranto wrote on Telegram yesterday. "See you in hell, Podesta's and Obama's!"
Taranto will be held in custody at least until a detention hearing on Wednesday. Federal Magistrate Judge G. Michael Harvey said Friday he had "some concern" about Taranto's mental stability. -(source: nbc news)

Ben Ainslie’s Great Britain SailGP Team overcame an event of two halves by winning the Italy Sail Grand Prix on September 23-24 in Taranto, Italy. This is the team’s second consecutive win as the Brits topped Tom Slingsby’s Australia and Jimmy Spithill’s USA in the finals.
The racing in Taranto began in windy and wild conditions but the second day was marred by light winds that eventually would disappear and cause the final podium race to be terminated.
The race for the final was hotly contested, and while Great Britain and Australia had their ticket stamped, the United States needed – and got – a collapse by the French on the final downwind let to gain entry.
It was a comeback for Spithill whose team saw teammate Hans Henken injured the day before when their F50 catamaran crashed off the foils and submerged the leeward hull where Henken was positioned, knocking him unconscious for a short time. Henken went to the hospital for observation but was in good spirits.
Taylor Canfield was ready to replace Henken, but with the light winds, the league called for teams to reduce from five to four crew, leaving Canfield on the sidelines.
As the final three-boat podium race took place, the wind started to shut off and despite the race management’s best endeavors and trying to shorten the course, the 16 minute time limit came and went. With the termination of the final, scoring returns to the qualifying fleet races in which Great Britain topped the leaderboard.
USA had led the final to the leeward mark, but Australia got leverage and a puff to jump ahead. The Brits trailed both, but at the time of termination, they were set to claim the lead. “It was a roller coaster ride but I’m just delighted for the team after a really solid performance over the five races this weekend,” said Ainslie. “It was a good win.”
At the prize winning ceremony, Ainslie gave Team GBR’s strategist Hannah Mills credit for the team’s win – due to her excellent ability to spot the best conditions to get the boat to the front of the fleet – and it was Mills that proudly lifted the winners trophy aloft.
“Considering how challenging it was I think we were literally at zero knots for quite a lot of the race and it was so intense,” said Mills. “We just kept calm and always felt like there was going to be an opportunity to get back into the race – and there was. But we ran out of time, so it was a tough race.”
