Recommendation: Do you want to get depressed about a bunch of players and particularly Taylor Hall? This is about the unbearable optimism of youth in a league where there is one (1) winner each year in a sport where so much is down to luck. And about learning that, and learning what happens when the shine starts to wear off. Man, I just want them to get to be bright eyed rookies forever. Nico is absolutely fucking adorable in this. And Taylor just. Tries really hard and somehow still ends up floundering. The fic has a nice resolution and ends well. But like. In the context of it, it’s even more heartbreaking that Hall is off to play mentor to ANOTHER number one draft pick.

i can’t stop thinking about adam henrique wearing nineteen in edmonton. i can’t stop thinking about adam henrique getting traded to taylor hall’s old team. i can’t stop thinking about connor mcdavid looking at taylor hall’s teammate in juniors wearing the same number as connor’s teammate in juniors, and so i can’t stop thinking about the same stories repeating over and over. two sets of wunderkind pairs connected by the same team and the same number, and two of them aren’t there but absence is a presence so they kind of are, actually, where it matters. connor mcdavid is seeing echoes slide across the ice and adam henrique is seeing old ghosts floating in the rafters.

i've spoke about how i first got interested in hockey so i won't rehash that, but what hooked me was honestly the behind the scenes content. behind the b was my best friend when i was a baby fan, i absolutely loved the content. even now, that sort of behind the scenes stuff is still my favourite content posted by teams

2. Your first ever fandom friend

my first hockey friend was shoshana (@/kempny) but they aren't on hockeyblr anymore and we haven't spoken in years unforch

3. The jersey you would most like to own

this is boring but my dream jersey is just a regular hischier home jersey

4. YOUR player (you only get ONE so choose wisely)

i am predictable. obviously it's nico. i've always felt like being a fan of the devils, for me, is like returning to the comfort of your home. nico's like that for me too. i think, no matter what team he plays on in the future, seeing him on or off the ice will give me the same comfort that coming home does. soz for getting sappy, he's just my guy

5. A pairing that deserves more fic

like. i'm a mattdrai girlie and i will never say no to more fics. but i am also tragically stuck in 2017 and would therefore go absolutely insane for more niconolan fics.

6. Your favourite on-ice moment

this is going to sound so stupid because i literally wasn't even a hockey fan yet, but adam henriques goal against the r*ngers in the 2012 ecf that sent the devs to the finals... i knooooow its such a dumb choice cause i wasnt a fan but. god. i cant explain how much that moment means to me even looking back retroactively. i get goosebumps every single time.

why i love it: i've always been a sucker for trade fic, and this one just happens to be about my favorite actual trade (rip taylor hall, he's not dead, he's just a fuckin Br*in) and deals with the messy, heartbreaking emotions that are so fun to delve into with a trade fic. it hurts, because you really feel how much leaving edmonton broke him, and you can see the aftermath of it and how it tears him and his life apart. it also has a great background nate/mikey arc that really serves as such a great narrative parallel, and really adds a depth to the story (as well as being one of the most heartbreaking but also most rewarding superbuddies plots i've encountered)

NHL Expansion Draft 2021: Full list of players available for Seattle Kraken

The NHL announced the protected lists for the 30 teams involved in the NHL Expansion Draft. (Vegas is exempt.) With the names of those protected come the guys who could be snatched up by the Seattle Kraken. There are a number of big names that have everyone trying to figure out just what general manager Ron Francis will do. Will he take Canadiens netminder, and future Hall of Famer, Carey Price and his hefty cap hit? Is Vladimir Tarasenko the sniper he needs or is his health a big question mark? There's also a number of guys who would fit in nicely but are free agents and the chances of signing them are not high (i.e. Alex Ovechkin).  EXPANSION DRAFT: Date, time, rules & more for Seattle Kraken team selectionRegardless of what Francis, coach Dave Hakstrol and Co. end up doing, there's a good chance the Kraken will be a playoff contender in just their first season. For now, let the intrigue and the guessing WWRFD (that's: what will Ron Francis do?) begin. do you respond to comments, why or why not?

I try to at least say 'thank you' when people comment, unless they're being a jackass and then I just delete. I'm not good at ot if it's someone I don't know, tbh, I'm never quite sure how to respond to compliments without sounding like conceited asshole.

what’s the fic you’ve written with the happiest ending?

I mostly only write happy endings because I'm just like that, but my personal favorite is probably still jack ♥️♥️♥️

what’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?

Hmmm, it's not angsty per se but the most unsure ending I have is (this one) to the grave - it's a Chris Kreider/John Tavares college AU where John's a werewolf and he becomes obsessed with Chris. He's a very specific kind of insane - mostly due to the nature of werewolves in the verse - and he has a lot of violent reactions to Chris, which he mostly keeps internal, but at the end of the fic he stops trying to control himself and it's up to the reader whether he hunts down Chris to fuck him or eat him.

do you write crossovers?

I do! It's a lot of fun fitting hockey players into other universes.

have you ever received hate on a fic?

🤣🤣🤣 Yeah, usually in the form of anonymous rants in my inbox, but also in comments, too. The pairings and tropes I like to write lend themselves to getting yelled at by people who like to clutch their pearls. And I also write rpf so that's an entirely different contingent that shows up periodically to remind me that I'm a bad person and I'm going to hell.

do you write smut? if so, what kind?

I do, yeah. The good kind, I hope 🤣🤣

have you ever had a fic stolen?

Yeah, a couple times - mostly when people were ripping off fics on ao3 and selling them on that one sight forever ago

I haven't, actually, which kind of bums me out tbh lol

what’s your all-time favourite ship?

If we're talking longest shipped for, probably Kirk/Spock - I didn't get into the fandom side of Star Trek until the reboot, but I can remember watching reruns of the original series and thinking Kirk and Spock were married so

what’s a wip that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?

Hmmm, that's a tough one. Probably a few that I had started when I switched from Bandom to hockey. I have hockey WIPs that I won't post when they're done, but they'll get finished eventually.

what are your writing strengths?

Ah, sex and dialog, I think

what are your writing weaknesses?

I'm shit at describing how people look, it always comes off as weird and stilted - not during sex or when they're doing things, but mostly when you're trying to establish someone's hair/eye color etc

what are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

I used to do this all the time, but now it's just mostly pet names and stuff
