Veilguard - Tamsin modern magic AU for the ask game?

This one's less of a WIP and more a bunch of random dialogue and notes I took trying to figure out how to make the modern AU happen. I don't know that it's going to work the way I wanted it to, but in the meantime, I at least had a whole bunch of angsty dialogue where Tamsin is convinced that the Talons are sending her on a deliberate suicide mission. A bit of said angst below!

"For the love of -" Viago grabs her arm. "Go back to the house, we'll talk there. I can order food for us while we plan."

"Plan?" She yanks her arm away. "What is there to plan? I'd rather enjoy what's left of my last few nights in Treviso. I missed it while I was gone."

She turns, but not before she sees the anger flash in Viago's eyes. "And you won't see it again if you don't fucking plan."

"I'm not going to see it again," she says, feeling a momentary eerie calm. "So I'm going to go sit on the docks and eat some godsdamned seafood." She makes the mistake of turning into a quiet alley; it's a shortcut, but if she'd taken the busy street, there would be no more Crow conversation. But the quiet and dark is their home. Viago's legs are longer than hers, so he catches up easily. "Now is not the moment for defeatism."

"Defeatism?" Tamsin whirls around once again. "I knew you'd lost your respect for me since the Antaam, but I didn't know you decided I was quite that stupid."

He opens his mouth, but her fury bubbles to the surface, and she continues. "There's no completed job here. The only Crow who would even have a tiny chance at finishing this job is the one who supposedly needs rescuing. There's certainly no way that Caterina fucking Dellamorte thinks that your fuck-up of an assistant can pull it off. You don't. Teia doesn't. I can only assume that it's some bigger Talon scheme like the one I wasn't privy to before. I'm the bait. At best, I'm a martyr to rally the Crows behind. More likely, I'm just a sacrifice so you all can poke the Venatori with a stick." She sneers to cover the lump forming in her throat. "I didn't have the manners to die on the last suicide mission you sent me on, so congratulations, here's another. And it's not like I can run away from it, I'd be dead within months anyway. So -" She shakes her head and looks away from him. "I'll go march to my death like a good little Crow, but first I'm going to have a fucking final meal. Go to hell, Viago."

The PRESIDENT, a machete on her right hip and gun on her left, settles her gaze upon the other, lip curling slightly. there's nothing REMOTELY presidential about her, except for the flag pin still upon her shirt. "There's pockets of civilizations left. D.C. is still one of them, albeit underground. If I can work to unite us, we might very well still make it out of this as a nation."

"don't get me wrong, cindy. you're nice and all—" this wasn't a very goodbye since tamsin was really no good at goodbyes. typically, she avoided them and dipped at the first chance she got. she thought cindy deserved a little better than that, though. she hadn't wanted to hurt her by running off but now she wondered if that would've been the easier thing to do. "there's just a lot out there i've got to see, you know?" her attempt at reasoning comes with a thin, tense smile. "it wouldn't be fair for me to keep things going with you."

kira had a boyfriend and he had a weird psychosexual thing with quark and then he left. she had a lesbian sexual tension thing with her new security chief and then found out she was dating quark for some reason. she became close friends with the wife of a significant figure in her religion and then that friend and quark became single-ish milf besties together. don't know what this means but kira doesn't much care for quark so poor her i guess

listening to the black books dvd commentaries and oh my god i need this for literally every other sitcom in existence!!! its just the 3 of them doing bits and taking the piss out of each other 💀 (and occasionally mentioning something about the episode). Dylan practically just sits there and points out the jokes they wrote that he thinks were shit 😭😭😭 its absolutely perfect. 10/10 no notes

adam, a catholic 1550s carpenter who was supposed to be hanged for murder but due to timey wimey shenanigans accidentally ended up on the tardis. it's not like he can go back home so instead the doctor lets him travel full time on the tardis and watch shitty 20th century scifi and occasionally reminds him to stop calling anyone who isn't a white human an ungodly heathen

tamsin, a lutheran 1540s servant to a gentleman who travels with the doctor part-time (she has a job to get back to, after all). she and adam have a contentious relationship

anatoly, a time lord loomed as an adult in the time war who also travels with the doctor full time because they were never supposed to be brought out of stasis after the time war ended; together they and the doctor slowly heal their fractured relationship with gallifrey, the time lords, and time lord culture

the world's most miserably repressed trans guy uni student who hasn't yet figured out the whole trans bit

Just like last year I want to kick January off with a flat popularity contest, showdown 2k25. (<- I wrote that in December before my laptop packed up, it'll now be after whenever I manage to get my laptop fixed) -

The TARDIS. I get it, it goes against my every instinct to exclude her, and while she didn't win the popularity contest I did include her in, it just doesn't feel fair, she transcends compaiondom.

If the coffee in a fantasy novel bothers you (per that post going around) then probably do not read Tamsin Muir's Locked Tomb series. This author's meme game is formidable and she does not hold back. I'm only on the first one, but Gideon Nav is from another planet that's either in the way far future or on a dimension forty degrees south southleft from ours or both, and you'll be saying, "How did this girl grow up on the planet of the Ninth House of this joyless empire of necrophiliacs watching Simpsons reruns??"

"definitely don't think that. i think there's something romantic about maybe fucking on the hood of a car in a field with nobody else around under the stars but... that's definitely not what this is." and definitely not what she'll be doing if she does decide to go with tamsin. it all hinges on the invite, of course, but if they're going to something like that together, she's going to make sure she's sober enough to enjoy it with her friend. "well, in the previous scenario with the sock puppet girl, you were the third so i was just bringing you back into this one," she reminds with a light shrug. no big deal. "maybe i don't mind sharing, maybe i do. who knows when it's not real and we've had too much to drink!" to which she toasts the glass again before downing the rest of its contents.

"you'd be okay." maybe, probably. especially since tamsin wouldn't throw the glass particularly hard. if anything she'd be more likely to be left with a bruise as opposed to a cut. "mmm, drugs or being super drunk. sure, it's in a tent. you don't think there might be something kind of romantic about the whole stars thing? two people and the night sky? and then... a whole field of other people," she muses the latter part as if it's a more sudden revelation. "oh, so we're having sex with a spectator? i didn't realise that you were into that. kinky indeed, minjeong."
