of course stede is getting high on the attention he's receiving he was an outcast all his life and his dream of becoming a pirate was always taken as a joke so him getting praised over blackbeard? his crew cheering him on before killing ned? getting fans among the very people who used to make fun of him? i fucking hate it here but ugh love it when characters are consistent and well written like fuck yes gimme flawed and stupid decisions that are made according to their backstories and personalities

really love the dynamic of gem (regular person that is a serial killer) and pearl (a piece of the chaos that has murder as a given) in the life series. its so fucked-up-but-ultimately-normal guy x one of the seven deadly sins and i love that for them.

fun thing about dredge is like. the familiarity of the unknown. like sure the various Horrors are scary when you first encounter them, but soon enough you learn where they are and how to avoid them and like, sure they’re dangerous and sure you don’t fully comprehend them but like. give them a wide berth you’ll probably be fine. which is exactly the mindset that any person who was hired to go fishing for a living in the eldritch nightmare town would end up in. yeah the anglerfish have come up to the surface and their lures are clearly designed for me but like. i’ve got bills.

You see i joke a lot about Chilbru but actually something that has been very interesting to me in every single type of media ive read including like. Russian 19th century novels. Is the contrast between the young intellectual idealist from a somewhat privileged background vs the older, more disillusioned working class activist. Big picture vs small incremental action. While this conflict isn't really explored in dunmeshi because tbh it is not really a theme in the work, a recent post by I think @tofixtheshadows talked about how kabru would be an environmental activist made me think of how easily it would be to imagine a scenario of like. Kabru and Chilchuck coming in contrast because Kabru is petitioning to completely lock whats left of the dungeon because it is basically still an active elephant foot of a place while Chilchuck is against that because he *knows* there's a wave of disenfranchised half-foots coming over from kakha brud and whatever dwarven tech and metal resources are left down there is how they will make their living. It's the type of contrast that I genuinely would like to see explored but also like. That's a fantasy Ken Loach movie nobody wants to read that shit
