Time Travel Question 58: Performances IV
These Questions are the result of suggestions from the previous iteration.
This category may include suggestions made too late to fall into the correct grouping.
Please add new suggestions below if you have them for future consideration.
*The Broadway Premiere names were lost over a year ago because I didn't realize how big this was until I'd spent several hours on first day telemetry for the very first Time travel poll.
Please Feel Free to share ones you want to see for future polls.

Le Petit écho de la mode, no. 15, 12 avril 1896, Paris. 9.
9. Taglioni petticoat, exclusive property of the house of Joan of Arc, 265, rue Saint-Honoré, Paris. — To put a petticoat under the invocation of the famous dancer Taglioni is to give the idea of a creation imbued with Parisianism, light as the wings of a sylph and both comfortable and practical. Such is absolutely the Taglioni. This petticoat with its invisible bustle, completely adherent, horsehair and whalebone, dresses you divinely, gracefully rounding the rump, throwing back the fullness of the skirts, supporting the godets in their fanciful arrangement. The Taglioni petticoat gives the whole dress the most harmonious proportions; it is the poetry of curves. This model in brocaded silk fabric is made in light and dark shades, two tones, trimmed with a pleated top in taffeta, covered by a high lace application bow in aigrettes, price 80 frances. Let us add that the Taglioni petticoat is made at 30 francs, 40 francs, 50 francs and 60 francs. The bouvel illustrated album, including the latest creations in petticoats, lingerie, trousseaus and corsets with busk and without busk, is sent on request free and carriage paid; Just write to the Joan of Arc house, 265, rue Saint-Honoré, Paris.

Cash
Cash [trailer]
After his brother is killed, Cash allies with a famous thief to pull of the biggest robbery in history.
It surely strives for the stylish coolness of the Ocean movies. The breezy score and the charm of Dujardin certainly helps.
But the convoluted story increasingly feels a bit much, with too many shifting loyalties, so it's a little difficult to care too much for the characters at the end. Still an entertaining watch.
Side note, while more than a decade old, it's still remarkable how much the characters smoke. Payment for that must've been a meaningful budget contribution.

These are basically the dance slippers of the era for any woman at a ball. What Taglioni did was strengthen her feet and ankles through endless relevés and working in quarter pointe rises which really strengthen every muscle. Then, she darned the shoe to give more structure and a little support, and only rose up briefly en pointe. She never lingered there, but used it for effect. It captured the imagination of Paris, and the world, and pointe technique was born.
A great introduction to this is from the Royal Ballet's educational programmes:

Something I was terrified of, starting the research for my ballet book, was the question, "how do I portray ballerinas without showing several characters who display disordered eating" in interviews, videos, and article research I've encountered so many thin, thin bodies who are absolutely obsessed with unbroken lines and who regard fat (adipose tissue) as a threat to the art form; I, who generally have an extremely healthy relationship with eating and was never limited food as a kid, came out of Bunheads feeling a vague sense of anxiety whenever I thought about meals. "Jesus Christ," I thought. "Should I just gloss over it and make it a non-issue?"
But look at these women, dancers from the Paris Opera in the 1860s.
Some of my favorites:
Carlotta Morando
Blanche Montaubry
Eugene Coralli
Louis Merante
Virginia Zucchi
And lastly, Marie Taglioni; she had a hunchback and limbs considered too long, but her dance was considered the defining feature of the romantic era of ballet; she was also the first to consistently do pointe work, before the modern ballet slippers with supports and hard boxes were invented. (Aka it was purely her foot strength supporting her!)
there were really diverse bodies in the best of ballet! I'm not worried about talking around eating disorders at this point.
#ballet#dgg research#History#Ballet history#long post#Photos#I wouldn't consider most of these people fat#But it's a far cry from the people often encouraged to nearly starve themselves to death to fit the image

So I've been wanting to answer this one but boy this is a long list but I'll try my best.
If this is your favorite dancer, then you:
Anna Pavlova - are swan obsessed
Alessandra Ferri - have impeccable taste and you love her interpretation of Juliet
Carla Fracci - are Giselle obsessed
Maria Taglioni - are dead
Sylvie Guillem - love trail blazers, and appreciate a mix of classical ballet and contemporary
Maria Khoreva - are chronically online
Diana Vishneva - love an objectively (nearly) perfect dancer
Gallina Ulanova - are an old soul
Marianela Nuñez - love a clean turn and a well rounded dancer
Maria Bulanova - love jumper and turners
Altynai Asylmuratova - nostalgic of Kirov days and love a dancer who can do a good Medora and Nikiya
Ulyana Lopatkina - love love love Russian ballet
Olga Smirnova - also love Russian ballet but you weren't old enough to see Ulyana Lopatkina in her prime
Ekaterina Maximova - love passionate dancers and good Kitris
Evgenia Obraztsova - love a charming stage presence
Nicoletta Manni - are well researched and love a technically proficient dancer
Natalia Osipova - love bravura roles but you also appreciate seeing dancers who grow tremendously out of their box
Sofya Valiullina - are new here lol! But you love a technically proficient dancer
Maya Plisetskaya - are deep into your research and you love strong dancers
Svetlana Zakharova - are obsessed with naturally gifted dancers.
Alina Somova - Love hyperextensions
Alexandra Khiteeva - Love a killer port de bras!
Victoria Tereshkina - are obsessed with strong dancers who can do no wrong!!!
Renata Shakirova - Love a versatile dancer
Maria Koshkaryova - are new here! But you're Vaganova obsessed.
Maria Iliushkina - Love dancers with emotional depth
Eleonora Sevenard - learned about her from when you got into Vaganova in 2017 and you've been obsessed ever since
Elena Svinko - (I'm sorry I don't know her well enough)
Svetlana Savalieva - a hopeless romatic and believes she deserved a fair chance into soloist territory!
Nina Kapstova - are a fan of absolutely flawless dancers
Elisabetta Nallin - are new here!
Angelina Vorontsova - prefer Mikhailovsky over Mariinsky and Bolshoi, and you're probably better off for that. Respect.
Yulia Makhalina - are ME and are CORRECT, but seriously though. You have good taste and you wished there were more clips of her out there.
May Nagahisa - love a perfect Aurora interpretation
Camilla Mazzi - don't love a perfect Aurora interpretation. Yeesh it got spicy here.
Kristina Shapran - You have faith in Mariinsky's next generation of principal dancers
Oxana Skorik - are Catherine Pollak. LOL. But actually, you have good taste and you just weren't around during Yulia Makhalina's time.
